As if we needed another excuse to head west for a weekend, Galway is set to play host to a four-day GIN festival next month.

The Latin Quarter Gin Fest returns to the City of Tribes from Thursday June 7 to Saturday June 10, and you better believe we'll be there to raise a glass with our fellow gin-lovers.

Organisers promise a "weekend of gin-joyment" with a whole range of fun and interactive events planned over the four days.

Expect Gin Cruises, Gin Forage, Irish Gin Village, Distillery Road Trip, Master Classes and Tastings, Gin Afternoon Tea, Gin Trails, Food & Gin Pairings, Gin Cocktails & Competitions, New Gin Launches and Gin Experientials – an pretty much every other gin related activity you could ever imagine!

The festival aims to encourage people to sample a variety of gin and tonic brands, as well as educate the masses on the economical benefits of the gin trade.

Count us in!

A full programme of events is coming soon and for regular updates follow The Latin Quarter on social media using the hastag #LQGinFest or email ginfest@thelatinquarter.ie

We may be coming off the back of a Bank Holiday weekend, but that doesn't mean we don't deserve a few post-work tipples this Friday.

Tomorrow night, the final instalment of The Hop House presents by Hop House 13 will take place in Whelan's on Wexford Street.

Entertainment on the night will be provided by the recent Choice Music Prize winner Ships, as well as LUMO Club and Telephone DJs.

The organisers have teamed up with local street food vendors including contemporary Chinese restaurant Hang Dai, The Big Blue Bus at The Bernard Shaw and The Brazilian Kitchen at Wigwam to create a range of dishes to complement Hop House 13.

If you're feeling adventurous, Hang Dai will be putting their creative edge on a traditional Super Noodle dish served with crispy squid and wild garlic mayo, while Pedro from the Brazilian Kitchen will be serving up a range of pastels, a firm street food favourite in Brazil.

Tickets to The Hop House can be found at www.thehophouse.eventbrite.ie and are €12 incl. booking fee, plus a complimentary pint of Hop House 13 and two street food dishes.

Don't mind if we do…

Ed Sheeran is due to play a string of concerts around Ireland next month. The Shape Of You singer will perform to thousands of fans across the country, with shows in Cork, Galway, Belfast, and Dublin.

Ahead of the Thinking Out Loud singer’s gigs, Aiken Promotions have issued a warning to fans about his upcoming Irish shows.

They issued a statement asking fans not to queue for the gig. “The venue gates will open at 5 pm. No early queueing will be permitted."

They have also advised concertgoers not to bring a bag to the concert.

“Please do not bring a bag unless it is totally necessary. People without bags will be fast-tracked. If you must bring a bag it needs to be smaller than A4 size. Bags under A4 size will be subject to a search which will result in unnecessary queuing,” they warned.

The organisers urged people to check the date on their ticket before attending the concert. The Galway Girl singer has nine Irish dates lined up so make sure to check the venue and date details on your ticket.

A post shared by Ed Sheeran (@teddysphotos) on

“Please remember to keep your tickets safe and check your tickets to ensure you are attending on the correct date and going to the correct venue.”

The public has also been warned about buying tickets from ‘bogus ticket sellers’ or unofficial websites as the tickets will not guarantee access to the concert.

Ed Sheeran will kick off his Irish tour in Pairc Ui Caoimh in Cork on Friday, May 4, and will end at Dublin’s Phoenix Park on May 19.

The three-day festival has also announced the introduction of the new Urban Village stage which will feature some of the best up-and-coming Irish hip hop and urban artists.

There is something quite therapeutic and rewarding about using our hands to create a beautiful object. And if learning some new skills involves a cocktail masterclass, what more can we ask?

To celebrate its one-year anniversary, Premium Irish whiskey Roe & Co is introducing a new creative workshop series.

Brought by local creators and artists, The Roe & Collective aims to bring people together for an afternoon of creativity, craftmanship and to learn new skills, whilst enjoying some world class Roe & Co cocktails.

The first event of the series will take place this Saturday, April 14th from 3pm to 6pm, at the recently opened bar Lucky’s, located in the heart of The Liberties.

During a fun afternoon, guests will gain an insight into different forms of trendy craft, including how to build your own terrarium, the art of silkscreen printing and a cocktail masterclass.

Professional urban gardener and stain glass artist, Alison Byrne will teach guests the history and the science behind the self-contained urban gardens, which are so popular on Instagram, while explaining the best types of plants and soil to use. At the end of the workshop you will be able to create your own miniature garden in upcycled Roe & Co whiskey bottles.

Led by Damn Fine Print, the silkscreen workshop will teach you how to use layering and overprinting techniques to create custom-made tote bags, tea towels or badges.

Hosted by Roe & Co Brand Ambassador Peter O’Connor, the cocktail masterclass will teach you how to create world class Roe & Co cocktails at home. You will also learn about the history of Roe & Co, why it is so synonymous with The Liberties and the golden era of Irish whiskey.

After the workshops, guests are invited to stay on in Lucky’s to enjoy a complimentary Roe & Co cocktail served with a delicious wood-fire pizza from Coke Lane Pizza.

Tickets to The Roe & Collective are available from EventBrite.ie and include three creative workshops (terrarium building, screen printing and a Roe & Co cocktail masterclass), a Roe & Co cocktail and a complimentary wood fire pizza. Tickets are priced at €15 including booking fee.

The long weekend is just around the corner and with so many amazing events due to take place around Dublin, staying in is not an option – (that is if you're not too busy devouring copious amounts of chocolate, of course).

Doors at 7.30pm sharp and tickets are €9.00 online or €10.00 on the night.

3. North Side vs South Side Pillow Fight, April 1, Phoenix Park

It looks like the old rivalry is alive and well, as Dubliners from both sides of the Liffey meet for a massive pillow fight at 3pm in Phoenix Park.

Oh, the organisers have also planned a 'Grushie' afterwards – which, from my understanding is some kind of old tradition that involves throwing small coins on the ground for children to collect.

Sure, what else would you be doing on Easter Sunday?

4. Ted Fest Dublin, The Church Bar & Restaurant, Dublin 1

Is there anything to be said for saying another Ted Fest?

Awakening your inner Mrs. Doyle and celebrate the Easter weekend with a lovely cup of tea down at The Church Bar & Restaurant.

Guest are invited to dawn their holiest attire and participate in a world record attempt for the Largest Gathering of Characters from Father Ted.

#MeToo – Then and Now, by The Trinity Long Room Hub, Arts and Humanities Research Institute.

On 6 February 1918, the ‘Representation of the People’ Act was enacted in the UK, giving approximately eight million people in England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland the right to vote, including six million women. After decades of campaigning by suffragists, the Act extended the franchise to women over the age of 30 years if they were married to members of the Local Government Register or property owners. It did not give parity with men. Under the same Act, the majority of men aged over 21 were given the right to vote.

On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Trinity are partnering with the Institute of Irish Studies in Liverpool University for a discussion exploring if and how the position of women in society has changed over the century.

It will be part of the Trinity Long Room Hub’s Behind the Headlines discussion series.

With Longitude and Forbidden Fruit revealing their line ups in recent weeks, we're already looking towards festival season.

However, there's another kind of festival that's caught our eye, kicking off in Dublin.

The Pizza & Prosecco festival is happening on June 9, and the clue is in the name

The festival will be celebrating Dublin's best wood fired pizza, all washed down with a glass (or five) of bubbly.

'Get your slice of fun while you sip on bubbles to a singalong sound track that's cheesier then your pizza topping,' reads the event description.

Each ticket includes one deliciously refreshing Aperol Spritz and a slice of pizza, as well as entry.

There will also be DJS performing, as well as live acts and performers.

The event is over 18s only, as 20 types of prosecco will be on offer.

So, the most stomach churning of Hallmark holidays is upon us, but rather than moping in single or semi-singledom, we're choosing to make this lovable day about the gals.

While thousands of 'the boy done good' captioned pictures of designer bags and Victoria's Secret hauls flood Instagram, we've decided that we'll be sinking pints and G&Ts with our fellow single crew members.

Where exactly? Well, Drop Dead Twice is hosting the ultimate antidote to this love sick holiday – The Netflix & Chill pub quiz.

The pub quiz is completely free for teams to enter, and the team with the best name wins a delish bottle of The Dubliner Whiskey, so even if your trivia skills aren't up to scratch, your name-choosing may win you some drank.

For the more competitive among us, it's time to get the flash cards out and start swotting.

The theme of the quiz is, of course, Netflix, so we're sure that every team member will have a bit of organic knowledge in there somewhere.

The event will be held at The Tap Room in Drop Dead Twice on Francis Street, Dublin.

The venue recently had a refurbishment and is looking laaaavely, and now has more than 20 craft beers on tap for those knowledgable in both trivia and an excellent brew.

Now to watch the entire series of Stranger Things again before tonight, just in case it comes up.
