Natalie Mackey is the brains (and beauty) behind ground breaking brand Winky Lux.

With her Instagram-friendly packaging, clean formulas and affordable prices, the American entrepreneur has found the winning way to make her brand relevant and so covetable for the young, modern customer.

We sat down with the New Yorker to ask her about her beauty tips, some career advice and her proudest achievements as a successful girlboss.

Have you always been a beauty addict?

YES! I've always thought it was the most fun thing to shop for.

What made you want to launch a beauty brand?

I knew there was a market for whimsical luxury at a price that made sense.

What is your skincare routine?

I use DHC Cleansing Oil, followed by Pixie Glow Tonic then Strivectin Oleic Rapid Recovery serum. Lastly I put on the Winky Lux Dream Gelee.

What is your go-to make-up look?

I normally do a natural look that consists of White Tea Tinted Veil in Light, Peeper Perfect concealer in Light, Winky Unibrow Pencil, mascara (a new one launching in August!) and Winky Strobing Balm in Radiant Pink.

In the summer I typically dust Tarte loose finishing powder over it to last all day.

What about when you go out?

At night I will add MAC precision black eyeliner and Winky Lip Velour.

I love a bold red lip. I use the colour “Heart” in the winter and “Dirty Love” (which has more orange) in the spring and summer.

What products do you swear by?

The Winky Lux Peeper Perfect concealer is my desert island product. I never leave home without it.

I also love Commodity’s new fragrance “Whiskey” and Frank Body Coffee body scrub

Among all the amazing Winky Lux products, which one are you the proudest of?

The White Tea Tinted Veil is an amazingly light moisturiser that smells like a spa and has physical SPF 30. One of our customers wrote to us saying she never wore sunscreen until she bought the tinted veil because it's normally so sticky.

Considering that skin cancer is so dangerous I was proud that we made a product that made it fun for people to protect their skin.

All your products are cruelty-free and non-toxic. Is it because you are particularly concerned by environment issues or the health of your clients?

Yes to both! I am the ultimate test subject because I have highly sensitive skin and I use every product we’ve ever made. I don’t want harsh chemicals on my face so I wouldn't expect our customers to either.

As far as animal testing is concerned, it should probably be abandoned in the industry as a whole. It’s horrible and unnecessary and can, for the most part, be easily replaced with more sophisticated alternative testing.

How do you decide to create a product?

We get our best inspiration from our customers. We ask them for ideas all the time.

Once we have an idea we make sure that we can devise a package that’s as pretty as the product and then it’s off to the lab!

How has Instagram been in the heart of the development of your business?

It has been so important. It serves as a real time focus group where we can get instant feedback from the customer.

Do you think all brands should be on Instagram in this day and age?

Of course. It's where consumers are going to discover new things. It’s as important as your website.

Any Insta recommendations for your readers?

Oh yes! @sarahmcgonagall is an influencer in our neighbourhood who is always amazing with her high tech artistry! @virna_gambini has the prettiest flat lays I have ever seen. For fashion that is affordable/adorable @jennajordan works at Winky Lux and is the resident cute-outfit guru. Finally, the @betches cracks me up every day.

Why do you think Winky Lux got so much success so quickly?

I think women want something fun that celebrates them at a price that’s nice. Our products are luxury quality and have packaging that hopefully makes you smile.

Also so many of our products were inspired by ideas from our customers. I think they feel vested in the success of the products they helped create.

What WL product has been the most successful so far?

The Flower Balm and the Peeper Perfect Under Eye Concealer

What is your biggest challenge as an entrepreneur in your everyday life?

Getting enough sleep and eating healthy foods. It’s tough when you're on the road so much.

As a real girlboss, what advice would you give to young women wanting to become entrepreneur?

Don’t be afraid to start and don’t be afraid to fail. You will learn more from the failures than the wins (I have).

Success seems to be more about "time in" than timing. Ask for help,

What advice would you give to a young woman looking for a job? What are the mistakes young women tend to make on their resume or during interviews?

I think there is a recent trend of being afraid to say you don’t know something. I get more excited about a candidate that says “I don’t know everything about this but I’m curious and I’m prepared to dive in, work hard and learn it” than someone who sort of fakes their knowledge.

Recently I've also seen people come in with salary asks that are far above the salaries listed on the job description. I’m glad that women are starting to ask for more but that's not the way to do it. It makes the candidate seem as if they didn’t pay attention or even read the description. Also, always be on time for an interview.

What other brands inspire you?

Jonathan Adler (for their dedication to whimsy), Nike (for their ability to influence culture), Skinny Dip (for their hilarious kitchy voice), Ladurée (for their ability to create magical spaces)

What is the next step for Winky Lux?

We are opening 5 experience stores in the US then hopefully Europe next year!

Oh Friday , I love you so Matcha ! #TGIF #winkylux #matcha

You know what I love, more than anything else?

A sexy new makeup collection – especially when I genuinely love every single product included.

And the wonderful humans at Urban Decay have seriously delivered with their gorgeous new summer collection.

Urban Decay's Beached Collection will be launching later this month online and in-store, but we have a sneak peak of all the products.

Prepare to start drooling, because it might just be their best work yet.

Wish you were here  XO, UD #UrbanDecay

A post shared by Urban Decay Cosmetics (@urbandecaycosmetics) on

"This whole line is an extension of Urban Decay's matte Beached Bronzers, which launched last year," Steve Kassajikian, the brand's global makeup artist, told Cosmopolitan.

"So Wende (the company co-founder, FYI) wanted to create a collection based off of that. The packaging is inspired by the view outside of Wende’s home, which is right on the ocean."

Hey Wende, can we come for a visit?

The collection is made up of GORGE lippies, divine bronzers and eye pencils – to name but a few.

Possibly the shining star of the range, the eyeshadow palette is honestly outrageous.

With eight lovely shades, all inspired by that sweet beach lifestyle, Urban Decay may have actually outdone themselves on this one.

With regards to the stun palette, "The colours were inspired with warm tones in mind, giving it that beachy summer feel with a touch of aqua," Kassajikian explains.

"They’re deeper toned so they’re not electric, and they go well with the bronze-y feel of summer."

Lipsticks: "100 Degrees" on the left, "Heatwave" in the centre, and "Tower 1" on the right

"The collection also comes with two Glide-On waterproof liners," Kassajikian adds.

"I love using a liner like "Lucky," a metallic burnt orange, on the top and bottom lash lines to warm up the eye in the summer; it can also brighten up your eyes if they're brown because the bronze-orange tones bring out the hints of orange in brown eyes."

"The formula is super creamy, so you can use them all over the lid or wear them alone or as a base for shadow."

We're so excited for this launch, wow.

Full disclosure before we even begin – eyeshadow primer is not something we use on the regular.

However, when we are blessed with extra time to do our makeup, we love splashing out with primers (they make us feel extra together).

Anyway, we always have our eye out for new, amazing beauty products – and we have a new contender for our fave primer.

Bloggers and influencers across the globe are going MAD for an eyeshadow primer called Rumour Base from P.Louise Academy.

Sure, Youtuber Nikkie Tutorials has even called it "the best in the world" – we can't argue with that lads.

Oh, and did we mention it only costs a tenner? Because, that is one hell of a bargain.

The gorge ladies at Cosmopolitan said that the inspiration for the primer came from 'MAC's Select Cover Up Concealer, which Paige Louise (P.Louise) had been using as an eyeshadow primer.'

The brand has described the product as 'a luxurious creamy base to create the perfect blank canvas ready for ultimate colour popping creations'.

It has a 'super thick consistency' and a 'no cracking quality'. The dream.

P.Louise also says that the formula 'helps to cancel out any unwanted brow hair' and 'carve out those highly requested fleeky brows'.

TAKE OUR MONEY.

Sad part? The stuff is currently sold out, but we have been assured that there will be a re stock very soon.

We'll wait.

Well, this is the most sexist thing we've heard in a while.

A new Abertay University study has claimed that women with ‘heavy’ make-up are less likely to be seen as good leaders.

The study showed participants various face-pairs of women, one with make-up applied for a night out and one without.

They were asked to choose which one of the two faces they felt would make a better leader – and they chose less makeup.

The results revealed that both men and women viewed women more negatively as a leader if she was wearing more of makeup.

Jesus lads, is nothing sacred?

Dr Christopher Watkins of Abertay’s School of Psychology led the study.

He discussed the results, claiming that: “This research follows previous work in this area, which suggests that wearing makeup enhances how dominant a woman looks."

“While the previous findings suggest that we are inclined to show some deference to a woman with a good looking face, our new research suggests that makeup does not enhance a woman’s dominance by benefiting how we evaluate her in a leadership role.

“This work is a good example of the diverse and interesting research ongoing within the Division of Psychology.”

Yeah, doesn't make it any less annoying though.

Anyway, if you need us, we'll be the women smothered in makeup ruling the world.

K, bye.

Not to be overly dramatic or anything, but this might be the BEST news we've heard all year.

So in my humble opinion, ASOS can do no wrong – it is a one stop shop for absolutely everything you could need.

Clothing, birthday cards, inflatable flamingos… and now, MAC makeup!

Yes, really.

In a very exciting turn of events, beauty lovers will be able to purchase MAC makeup from ASOS as of the March 14th.

We are not worthy!

However, ASOS won't be stocking everything, but they will offer a wide range of MAC hero products.

Here's hoping we can get our strobe cream and our Velvet Teddy.

Without even leaving the house, mind you – welcome to the bloody future.

Seriously, when will it STOP?

We've been patient and accepting with regards to bizarre eyebrow trends.

We've even kind of enjoyed some of them, like the jewelled brows and Insta-worthy eyebrows.

However, with the Internet's latest offering, we are throwing in the towel – we cannot take it anymore.

Someone has created halo brows, and they are actually unacceptable.

Listen, we are all for trying mad trends, trust us! We've dyed the hair, applying the mad lippy and on occasion smothered ourselves in glitter.

But this is a step too bloody far for us tbh.

Beauty blogger Hannah Lyne told POPSUGAR: "I was having a conversation with a friend trying to come up with a new idea for a look, and all of a sudden it came to me that I should connect my brow tails," Hannah explained.

"This look was influenced by fishtail brows; seeing the way my brow flicked upwards inspired the idea of just carrying the brow on until it met in the middle."

We still can't fully decide if she's being serious or not…

Hands up of you are a die hard fan of Gilmore Girls…

*throws two hands in the air aggressively*

So, we've watched the series, BINGED the new episodes, and yet we still want more.

Well, the delightfully whimsical brand, Urban Tee Farm, have launched their very own collection of Gilmore Girls inspired lip balms, and we're obsessed.

There are three shades, all inspired by our favourite Gilmore moments.

Vicious Trollop (we all remember this) is described as "a beautiful light pink tint", while Spring Break is tinted with organic hibiscus powder, mica and "flavoured with organic peppermint and mango".

No Gilmore Girls related cosmetic would be complete without some form of coffee, and the final lip balm is an ode to this.

Java Junkie is a coffee flavoured lip balm that will re-hydrate and nourish your lips.

If, like us, you can't decide which flavour you want, why not get the full kit (includes all three).

So, while we're all about treating ourselves to some luxury products every now and again, there comes a point in every pay check when we need to stop and ask – 'Is this really worth the price tag?'

The answer of course is almost always no, but try telling us that when we're face to face to with the designer perfume we've been dreaming about for the last six months.

However, it looks Kylie Jenner's latest protect may have priced even the most reckless of spenders out of the market.

The Silver Series Brush Collection, all of Kylie’s favorite brushes, available individually and as a set on December 13!

A post shared by Kylie Cosmetics (@kyliecosmetics) on

The 20-year-old cosmetics mogul has been teasing fans with sneak peaks of her new Silver Series Brush Collection which is due to land on December 13.

The set features 13 of Kylie's favourite brushes – all of which can be yours for just $360 (€305).

Yep.

Why tax your car for a year when you could be the proud owner of a Kylie Jenner buffing brush?

Needless to say, fans are less than impressed with the extortionate price tag.

Kylie addressed the backlash in a tweet posted on Sunday, stating that the price was set so high because "real brushes don’t compare to synthetic brushes."

"I have developed for you guys the most amazing luxury brushes ever," she wrote.

"I am very excited! Real brushes don’t compare to synthetic brushes. Different performance/quality/everything. I am 100% down to do an entire synthetic line in the future which will ultimately be cheaper."

In an attempt to further justify the cost, the youngest member of the Kardashian clan posted a screen shot of other "real brush lines" with similar price tags.

Either way, unlike Kylie's other products, we're no expecting these sets to sell out in a hurry
