Brilliant Earth Diamond Review – Are they Really Conflict-Free?

A conflict-free diamond is a diamond that is sourced according to the criteria of the Kimberley Process. The Kimberley Process is a series of requirements and regulations that guarantee that diamonds are acquired and shipped in a way that doesn’t encourage criminal activity. A diamond accrued in this manner will have no connection to rebel or terror groups. Additionally, this process ensures that diamonds are mined and shipped in a humane and environmentally sound manner.

Brilliant Earth, however, feels that the Kimberley Process doesn’t go far enough in protecting the people involved in mining, nor does it ensure environmentally sustainable practices. For this reason, they call their diamonds “beyond conflict-free.” Beyond Conflict Free diamonds are diamonds that have been acquired in conjunction with the Kimberley Process but with the addition of several other stipulations.

In addition to adhering to the Kimberley Process regulations, Brilliant Earth’s diamonds must be mined in a way that minimizes environmental degradation, doesn’t violate human rights, employs safe and responsible labor practices, and supports community development.

Brilliant Earth sources their diamonds from Russia, Botswana, and Canada. They require their suppliers to provide tracking information for the diamonds they ship, as well as be able to identify their diamonds by origin. In this way, Brilliant Earth is able to track their diamonds from the time they’re mined to the when it arrives at their company. This allows them to say with certainty that their diamonds were mined and shipped in a manner matching their Beyond Conflict Free guidelines.

Furthermore, Brilliant Earth is committed to improving the conditions of mining communities. Five percent of their net profits go towards projects that aim to improve the lives of individuals, restrict abuses, conserve the environment, and generally advance the community. This includes, but are not limited to:

  • Providing fair wages and a safe working environment for artisanal diamond miners.
  • Financing education programs that allow children to escape diamond mines.
  • Sponsoring scholarships for students who want to learn how to cut gems.
  • Revitalizing land for agricultural use.
  • Providing youth with the necessary education, vocational training, and skill development so they can find meaningful opportunities in the artisanal diamond mining industry.
  • Financing an education initiative that’s designed to improve the government regulation of diamond mining.
  • Supporting the Center for Research and Development, which audits mines, reports abuses, and advocates for local communities.
  • Sponsoring the building of community centers, so miners have a place to negotiate fair diamond prices and receive training.
  • Giving to the nonprofit, MedShare International, which offers prosthetic limbs and lifesaving medical supplies to people injured in Sierra Leone.
  • Funding a 1-year scholarship for students to attend a leadership training school in South Africa.

In this way, Brilliant Earth is helping to provide more sources for socially and environmentally friendly diamonds. Moreover, they’re reducing the sources of blood diamonds.

Therefore, if we consider that according to Brilliant Earth’s website, they are conforming not only to the guidelines set out by the Kimberly Process but are, in fact, taking things a step further, we can say with some confidence that their diamonds are conflict-free. Additionally, the company has shown a commitment to improving mining communities. This commitment demonstrates that Brilliant Earth wants not only to secure conflict-free diamonds, but they also want to promote universal change in the diamond mining industry. They have, therefore, shown that they are a company that prioritizes sourcing diamonds in an ethically and environmentally friendly way.

Hundreds are also joining the Sanctuary Runners to show solidarity for those in direct provision, a worthy cause.

Other runners are hoping to set a new personal best, raise money for charity and record milestone marathons like 60-year-old Mary Murphy, who aims to collect her 200th marathon medal.

Inspiring Cork wheelchair athlete Jerry Forde is also looking to cross the line for his 450th marathon, an incredible achievement.

Following news of Southern states in America passing a string of regressive abortion bans, numerous studios have spoken out about the idea of boycotting the state's film industry by refusing to film there.

Disney, Netflix, WarnerMedia and more are rumoured to be contemplating a ban on filming in states like Georgia, Alabama and Louisiana, and now Derry Girls creator Lisa McGee has added her opinion to the fray.

Speculation has emerged over the possibility of extending the boycott to Northern Ireland, which has some of the most strict reproductive healthcare laws in the world.

A post shared by Derry Girls (@derry_girls_lover) on

Famously, Northern Ireland has been used as a filming location for shows like Game of Thrones, and recently Derry Girls on Channel 4.

Abortion in the North is illegal in basically all circumstances, with no exceptions for cases of rape, incest or fatal foetal abnormalities.

A danger to the mother's life is an exception which is difficult to toe the line for, and practitioners as well as receivers of abortions face life in prison.

The creator of the hit comedy show, Lisa McGee, has given her opinion on the notion of a filming ban in the North.

"I’ve been asked to comment on this issue so I will do it here," McGee wrote on Twitter.

"While I completely agree that abortion law in Northern Ireland is horrific and a breach of human rights, and that the British government must intervene and take immediate action."

"To bring it into line with the rest of the UK, I don’t feel a boycott of our film and television industry is the answer," she continued.

"The Northern Irish film and tv industry has been a light in the darkness. In a country where there is already little opportunity for young people it would only deprive them further.

"The fact that ultimately young Northern Irish women would suffer is depressing," she finished.

Nicola Coughlan, who plays Claire on Derry Girls, agreed with McGee's statements, She responded on Twitter by saying "Seconded."

What are your thoughts on the matter, do you agree with McGee?

Cardi B has BITTEN BACK about her plastic surgery habits after certain members of the public called her lazy for cancelling gigs.

The notorious rapper had to cancel a few gigs due to her surgeries, and said it cost her millions of dollars to do so. However, we all know and love that Cardi snaps whenever anyone comes for her, so maybe don't do it?

Some of her followers accused her of laziness for getting procedures after giving birth to Kulture, but the Press artist kept her response brutally honest.

Cardi B previously opened up about undergoing liposuction at a concert in Memphsis, admitting that she should have cancelled the show;

"I should have cancelled today. I shouldn’t really be performing because moving too much is gonna f*ck up my lipo. But b*tch, I’m still gonna get my motherf*cking money bag, let’s go!”

She later had to cancel shows this month, which led to online followers branding her as 'lazy' for not taking the time to work out. It's fair to say that Cardi put the haters in their place in her recent Instagram Live, they may never revive themselves.

"I hate cancelling shows because I love money. I’m a money addict…I get paid a lot of money, a lot of money for these shows. A lot of money. I’m cancelling millions of dollars in shows, but health is wealth so I have to do what I have to do.”

She also slammed anyone for trying to tell her what to do with her own physique, which we applaud. It's her money and her body, let the woman live her damn life in peace.

For the record, she said that she would have performed every show but her doctor insisted that she cancel them for the sake of her HEALTH, fam.

Speaking out against critics of her plastic surgery, the I Like It rapper said;

"I do whatever the f*ck I want to do with my body, I don’t have the time of day like you do. My job as an entertainer is a 24-hour job, bro. So no I don’t have time to work out. I wanted specific things that I know that no matter how much I work out won’t get fixed." Go off, sis.

(Warning: This article contains BLL season one spoilers)

We already love Nicole Kidman, that's confirmed. However, we may just have fallen in love with the actress even more after she dropped a huge hint regarding Big Little Lies season two…

Poor Reese Witherspoon had to tell Kidman to stop talking, before she spoiled the entire season. *gasps*

We've been feeling down in the dumps ever since season one ended, after Zoe Kravitz pushed Alexander Skarsgård's abusive character down a flight of stairs at a costume party.

Bonnie killing Perry was a twist none of us saw coming, and HBO is taking it's sweet time bringing us back to Monterey Bay, California. We are CRAVING more drama from the mums in the community.

The cast had a panel discussion recently to celebrate the upcoming launch of season two, but Nicole Kidman may have let a few things slip about the plot that could get her in trouble.

Nicole was mentioning how incredible it was to act alongside Alexander in the debut season, and dropped a huge spoiler regarding his return to season two…But he's dead? He went splat on the tarmac?

According to People, the 51-year-old veteran actress said,

"He was the most incredible acting partner, and then he came back for season two." Directly after this comment, her co-star and fellow producer Reese Witherspoon laughed and immediately made a gesture that was literally code for; "SHUT YO MOUTH."

Nicole tried to dig herself out of that massive hole and added, "He has a little bit of a part in the sense of…the basis of…okay, I’ll be quiet. He didn’t abandon us. We’ll put it that way." AHHHHH.

In the teaser trailer for the next season, Perry is nowhere to be seen so the fact that he'll be in the coming episodes is a MAJOR suprise.

Perry is confirmed as a dead character, unless he somehow gained rejuvenating powers to bring himself back to life. Somebody needs to make sure Melisandre from Game of Thrones is nowhere near him.

Nicole's truth bomb could mean that there will be flashbacks involving Perry, and his assault on Shailene Woodley's character, Jane. His abuse of his wife Celeste, portrayed beautifully by Kidman, may also be a focus.

Perry's mother will be played by Meryl Streep, who comes to Monterey to find answers about his shady death, so that should be interesting.

Tywin Lannister in Game of Thrones was always one to use proper enunciation and fancy-ass language, but apparently the actor himself is picky about the script-writing.

Charles Dance recently revealed that he accepted the part of the Lannister patriarch because the script did not use the word 'gotten'. Alright then..

The veteran stage and screen actor said it made his skin crawl when period TV or film dramas used modern language, and he credits GOT's incredible success on the Trinity College Dublin education of the show-runners.

The 72-year-old said he was delighted by the show's literary pedigree, and praised Dan Weiss and David Benioff for their shared TCD education. According to him, that's where the show gets it's huge success from…

Speaking on BBC Radio 2’s Steve Wright in the Afternoon show, he said: “It’s the quality of the writing principally."

“Dan Weiss and David Benioff were both English graduates at Trinity College Dublin, I believe. They are well schooled in the language."

“Because a lot of the time if I get a period script, even if it is a mythical period but it is supposed to be in England, and I read the word ‘gotten’ it makes the hairs go up on the back of my neck," he added.

“There wasn’t a single ‘gotten’ in this at all. The whole thing was run like a military operation. At the beginning of a 10-part season, there were 10 scripts. Very few rewrites," he continued.

"There were two units working full time on that. It’s a major scheduling thing. It was fantastic.” Charles Dance lasted until season four of the epic on-screen saga, but his character was killed off in 2015.

He admitted that the show's eventual ending 'confused' him. On Good Morning Britain, he said of the denouement: “It got to the very end and I thought, ‘Hmm, OK’.”
