Friends is our go-to show whenever we’re feeling uninspired, too lazy to watch something new or in need of a laugh. Sure, we’ve watched every episode at least a dozen times since it first aired in 1994, but there’s something so comforting about watching it again and again and again.

Our love for the show knows no bounds, but there is one storyline that never felt quite right for us and one of the cast members feels the same.

Kevin S Bright, director and executive producer of Friends revealed Matt LeBlanc hated the idea of Rachel and Joey hooking up.

He told Digital Spy that the actor protested against the strange storyline: “I can tell you this – in the beginning, Matt LeBlanc did not want to do that story.”

Rachel and Joey’s love affair was one of the least popular romances on the show. We’d sooner see her with Gunther, to be honest.

The pair’s ‘relationship’ just felt wrong. It was one we just couldn’t accept and Matt felt the same: “He was very firmly against it, saying that he's Ross's friend and that the type of friend that Joey is would never go and take someone else's girlfriend."

The director admitted they really had to twist Matt’s arm to get him to do the storyline. It was no easy battle. The actor felt shocked by Joey and Rachel’s love story, but eventually “got on board” with it after some very intense conversations.

Joey may not have been Rachel’s lobster, but at least he’ll always appreciate her famous trifle.

Flipping through the in-flight magazine to pass the time while jet setting is a right of passage for an airline passenger, but for Adam Baron, one article he came across was too, am, interesting not to share with his Twitter followers.

A profile piece on Drew Barrymore in Egypt Air’s Horus Magazine by Aida Tekla is currently going viral for it's distinct content.

Lets look at some of the stand-out quotes, shall we?

A post shared by Drew Barrymore (@drewbarrymore) on

It starts off by introducing the actress with a specific emphasis on her love life.

'Despite being unstable in her relationships most of her life, despite the several unsuccessful marriages and despite the busy life of stardom that dominated her life for several years; the beautiful American Hollywood actress Drew Barrymore has recently decided to temporary take an unlimited vacation to play her most crucial role as a mother…’ the magazine reads

It went on to suggest that Drew has been seeking male approval since childhood:

‘It is known that Barrymore has had over 17 relationships, engagements and marriages; psychologists believe that her behaviour is only natural since she lacked the male role model in her life after her parents’ divorce when she was only nine years old.'

‘Ever since that time, she has been subconsciously seeking attention and care from a male figure; but unfortunately things do not always go as planned and she has not yet succeeded in any relationships for various reasons.’

Okie doke… so after that stellar introduction, the magazine article goes on to discuss Barrymore's weight.

The question reads: ‘A few years ago, after your last delivery, you gained several kilograms that even your fans accused you of being overweight and neglecting your health. However, today I see you have returned to your previous graceful body; what is your secret?’

Allegedly, Drw responds to this with a smile, and says: ‘I feel overwhelmed when someone tells me that I have regained my image and managed to lose that extra weight, especially that I felt depressed due to the significant increase in my weight after delivering Frankie.'

‘However, I find this a great opportunity to encourage every woman who is overweight to work on regaining her beauty and body, especially that it is not as hard as one may think; it is all about determination and following the appropriate diet under the supervision of a physician.’

We're not so sure about this one…

Heather Watson is no ordinary human, she is a complete boss – on and off the court.

The tennis superstar is currently number three in Britain. She was also the first female to win the Mixed Doubles title in almost 30 years.

Life on the road, away from loved ones has been tough for the 26-year-old but she’s drawn on that newly found resistance to fuel her future.

“It’s a tough sport when you’re traveling so much, week in week out, especially when you’re at the age when you want to be at home with your friends and doing all the stuff that they’re doing like going to parties.

“But it’s one of the sacrifices you have to make and, you know, I don’t regret any of it. I’m really proud of myself and where I am today.”

$h*t happens… we go again

A post shared by Heather Watson (@heatherwatson92) on

She credits her endurance to “hard work”, “time”, “dedication”, and most importantly the “people [she] surrounds herself with.”

“All my friends have always been supportive from the get-go, and they totally understand everything that I do. I think that’s why they are my friends because they are so understanding and can relate to and support me in life and in my career. I’m very lucky I’ve got a lot of good friends.”

A good support system is one of the most important factors to surviving a hard day, so it is definitely something you should have set up in your life.

However, just because you have people to lean on does not mean you should let them dictate all your choices.

This is why Heather not only dedicated her life to pursuing her passion, but she has devoted her time to proving strength is a key element in modern femininity.

Joining the Always Platinum campaign, her aim has been to redefine femininity for women and show how much it has evolved away from male pressures over the years.

“I think femininity today is being strong, ambitious and independent. Always Platinum research shows that 50 years ago, woman wanted to be soft-spoken, delicate and sweet.

“Today woman don’t want to be called sweet because they wanna be that strong, independent character. She can hold her own, she has that strong side, but also has that soft side and can be caring and kind.”

But where does this feminine power come from? How can we be so confident in ourselves in a world that idolizes perfection on every screen and magazine cover?

By rewiring our minds to choose a healthy source of self-confidence, not based on outward appearance, Heather explained.

“Self-confidence comes from being strong and independent, being the modern day woman fighting for equality.”

Independence, the talented athlete said, is key to having faith in one’s self. There is something new and empowering that is gained from being self-sufficient.

It gives you that boost to keep your head up high and find solace in the fact that you don’t need no man to get you to where you want to be in life.

Heather wishes women to gain this dynamic outlook by being fearless in their endeavours and conversations. There is nothing female-related that should be shoved under the rug. It’s 2018, ffs!

Suns out… guns out

A post shared by Heather Watson (@heatherwatson92) on

“Particularly when it comes to taboo subjects like periods, which I personally have no problem talking about,” she explained. “I’m glad I can do that and hopefully other women become more open and feel that it’s fine to talk about it.

“It’s such a normal natural thing to happen that all of us go through, but it’s just not talked about as much, and therefore, becomes taboo just because it’s maybe not the nicest thing or the prettiest thing to talk about.”

Bleeding, acne, mood swings, cramps, and hormonal changes are all things most of us have to deal with during our time of the month, and talking about them should be as normal as the weather.

I mean, why can men scratch their balls in public but if a girl’s bra strap is showing it’s considered tacky?

This starts with us as females. We need to begin these conversations, even if it makes men around us uncomfortable. You might even be surprised with how normal some of them may find it.

It is important to bring this confidence and openness into the dating world as well.

“I never go for the easy option. If it comes to dating, you just know. You know who you want to be with and you know who you don’t.

“Enjoy yourself. Don’t keep your walls up, you can be a strong independent woman but you can also be soft as well and let those walls down. Don’t be intimidated by men.”

Find “someone that compliments you and makes you a better person,” Heather said.

The tennis pro is already so wise at her young age and we love the difference she is making for women everywhere. Keep inspiring, girl!

Channel 4's Derry Girls earned itself quite the following when it hit out screens earlier this year.

Set in Northern Ireland during the Troubles, its laugh-out-loud one-liners and nostalgia drenched soundtrack proved a big hit on both sides of the Irish sea, and now the second season is due back on our screens in the new year.

Saoirse-Monica Jackson, who plays Erin Quinn, has treated fans of the show to a sneak peek of the new season.

In June, Saoirse and her co-star Jamie-Lee O'Donnell, who plays Michelle, told Ray D'Arcy that filming would commence on season 2 in October.

So it seems like things are right on schedule.

At the time, Jamie-Lee asked Saoirse: 'It's gonna be on Netflix, isn't it?'

However, there has been no confirmation that either series of the show will appear on the streaming service.

'Obviously, we'd love to get that trajectory of Netflix and all the rest of it,'Saoirse responded.

'It would be great for people to be able to watch it all in the one go because it is one of those things that happened so fast. It would be great to watch it consecutively but we'll have to wait and see.'

The body positivity movement has come on leaps and bounds over the past few years.

Ariella has also discussed the impact and comparisons that come with having an online presence.

'I’ve seen so many of my beautiful friends leaving social media because they aren’t happy. I can completely see why that is! I have down days about instagram all the time. It’s extremely hard not to compare yourself to every other influencer there is,' she said.

It's about time influencers were giving us some realness.

Nowadays, we are almost hardwired to strive for world domination and to splash our success all over social media.

That's why we are gobsmacked at the results of this latest One4all's survey.

1,932 adults including 283 third and fourth level students seem to have ditched the old idea that money is a measure of success.

Happiness has now become the new currency, with 72 percent of the people surveyed saying the definition of success is being happy.

Furthermore, Ireland seems to have pulled out of the doom and gloom of the recession as 6.4 out of 10 students feel positive towards their career prospects here. – It's a miracle.

Shockingly, only one in 100 students picked their third level subject based on the financial opportunities a career offers.

These results even surprised career and coaching psychologist Sinead Brady, and she spoke to SHEmazing about this shift and why happiness is reigning queen.

Usually, people seek Sinead's help because they're unhappy in their job and according to the expert, this is normally due to selecting a career for financial gain, rather than happiness.

"People tend to have that kind of revelation may be in their early 30s and they’re kinda going; 'I have at least another 30/40 years to work and I’ve chosen this career at 17 or 18 that I don’t really like anymore, and now I really want to change,'" said Sinead.

That realisation is having a knock-on effect on the advice given to younger generations, Sinead explained that relatives are now encouraging young people to pursue a career based on their interests, rather than how much money they could make.

A job for life

That type of mentality, paired with the ever-changing world of technology is starting to refine our outlook on careers.

"The notion of one job for life and a linear progression – that you start at whatever you choose at college, if you decided to go to college or whatever you trained for directly after you finished school, that's what you stay in for the rest of your life. People are no longer willing to accept that as a reality," said the expert.

Sinead continued by saying people are now exploring all their interests and that 65 percent of children who entered primary school in 2016, will do jobs that haven't yet been created.

"But the really interesting thing is the people who are graduating from college now, are the people who will create those jobs," added Sinead. – So no pressure, lads – only the future generation at stake here.

Social media and success

Social media has made the global community feel smaller, and this has translated to when people are looking at careers – they realise that the world is a "very tiny place."

"They're used to having these interactions and engagements with on a global context," said Sinead.

Unsurprisingly, the expert warns that social media isn't always a positive place and shouldn't be used to measure your own success.

"It can make people very self-conscious and there's a lot of comparison around what success should be, particularly in the influencer arena," Sinead explains.

In fact, the survey shows that three things really define success for our student generation – being happy, healthy and having a loving family.

"When we look at the research, it's being happy in your work, being healthy and having a loving family. And they're actually the defining factors of success for young people at the moment, and I think that's a breath of fresh air," said the expert.

"It gives us an insight into what people actually want, they want a life and it's not about balance, it's about blending your personal and professional life together – so that you feel you can be successful as a person," added Sinead.

"If this is a reflection of the young people that are going to run our country in the future, it's really refreshing." – we couldn't agree more.

Now we must disclaimer, but under no means do you go out and quit your job in the morning – you can't just live off of love and happiness – we do need to pay the bills and the brunch we really can't afford, but adore nonetheless.

Sinead explains that there is a certain amount of moolah we need to live, but once you can provide that and you're "engaged and creative" in your work – you can be happy out.

So it's really fantastic news all round – but wait – things are going to get that bit sweeter.

The Union of Students in Ireland will this afternoon lead a national protest on the current accommodation crisis.

The National Housing Protest is gathering outside Leinster House to ‘Raise the Roof’ ahead of the Dáil vote on the housing crisis.

According to the USI, Thousands of students will march from the Garden of Remembrance from 12.30pm-2pm today, meeting with Trade Unions, housing and homelessness charities and civil society groups along the way.

Speaking in advance of the march and rally, USI President Síona Cahill said: 'On the night of the census in 2016, there were 429 students homeless in Ireland – making up 8% of the total homeless numbers.'

'There are students effectively being locked out of college because they cannot find or afford suitable accommodation while they study – it’s not good enough, and it’s affecting access to education.'

'Students are couch-surfing, staying in hostels while they try to find a place, and increasingly the victims of rental scams. Hundreds of students have had to defer college places altogether.'

'We will not accept that homelessness is ‘normal’ in Irish society with communities and families continuing to suffer. There has been a failure of essential planning by government in tangibly addressing shortages in provisions for homeless people, and slow progress in the development of much needed social housing.'

'The Union of Students in Ireland is calling on all parties to support the cross-party motion in the Dáil today and take immediate action on rent hikes and make significant investment in affordable purpose built student accommodation.'

The rally intends to highlight the extent to which people are being priced out of the private rental sector.

Mean Girls is one of the most iconic teen movies of our time, and tbh, Aaron Samuels was our first ever on-screen crush.

The North Shore High lothario toyed with the hearts of both Cady and Regina while having a heart of gold (and enviable hair) himself.

Played by Jonathan Bennett, we we're huge fans – and clearly Jonathan hasn't let go of his love for the film.

Last April, the actor announced that he was releasing a Mean Girls themed cookbook – aptly titled The Burn (Cook) Book

'Today is the 14th anniversary of #MeanGirls and I'm thrilled to share with you all a little sneak peek inside my new cookbook #BurnCookBook,' he wrote on Instagram at the time.

'Coming October 02, 2018! So you can have it for your October 3rd parties..duh).'

If you were one of the millions of Instagram users who dragged your thumb down the screen in frustration this morning to a 'cannot refresh' notification, listen up.

The social media app is down for users worldwide.

Its website and app are both currently inaccessible, with the website showing a '5xx Server Error' message.

A heat map by DownDetector, a website monitor, shows the problems are being reported from the UK, Ireland, Russia, Australia, Japan and the EU.

However, issues with the app are usually rectified fairly fast going by previous instances, so hopefully it's just a minor blip in our Wednesday morning.

There's no official word on what's causing the issue, but it appears to be related to Instagram's servers.

Here's to hoping it comes back ASAP.

The gorgeous mini dress comes in a similar print to that coat we've seen all over Instagram, and the addition of the quadrant of side buttons is an adorable bonus detail.

We're also all about the wrap-over style – making this piece super versatile.

For something a little edgier when we head out for drinks, we're teaming it with this PVC baker boy cap and yellow suede boots, throwing the dress over a slim-fit black turtle neck.

Dress €16, Boots €17.00, Backpack €14.00 and Coat €28.00, all Penneys

For day time, we're opting to add a white t-shirt underneath, black tights, and some plain black booties.

A cosy suede biker jacket looks gorgeous oversized, and red accessories tie in to the subtle hint of red in the plaid.

Best of all, this versatile dress is only €16.00 and it's in stores right now.
