Ah January, one of the most temperamental and tumultuous months when it comes to both the weather and what to wear when battling the elements.

If you're a fan of skirts, a mini may not be ideal for the biting wind which has descended upon the Emerald Isle, so we're casting our eye over to the midi skirt section of our favourite online fashion sites.

Bonus points for the fact that they can billow photogenically in the wind without leading to the risk of exposure.

 Polka-dot skirt €50.00, Astrology skirt €33.77

Floral ruffle skirt €43.24, White faux leather skirt €60.00, Popper skirt €21.62

In October of last year, Skins actress, Kaya Scodelario, made the decision to contribute to the narrative surrounding sexual violence.

Invigorated and supported by the #MeToo campaign, the 25-year-old actress decided to come forward with her own story of sexual abuse, and bravely disclosed that she was a victim of sexual assault at the age of 12.

"It’s taken me 13 years to say #MeToo .He is still protected by ‘family members’ in Brazil. They’ve told lies to papers to try to silence me," she wrote.

Explaining the impact the social movement had on her understanding of what happened to her as a child, Kaya told followers: "You’ve given me the courage. To finally speak out and not be afraid. To everyone still suffering silently, you never asked for it. NOBODY DOES."

The actress, who rose to fame for her role as Effy Stonem in Skins 2007, recently revisited her decision to come forward, telling Metro that while she appreciates the support and understanding, she doesn't want to be defined by that incident.

"The response was wonderful, it was a relief but I am still dealing with it, and I am now dealing with a new side of it, which is this.” she explained.

"I will be asked about it forever now. I hope it doesn’t define me but it will always be under my name and I accept that – but I am proud I was brave enough to do it and I am grateful for the support I had from friends."

Kaya's decision to share her experience was done in an effort to support other young girls whose lives have been thrown into turmoil as a result of assault and abuse.

“I remember thinking that if I was 12-years-old and I had this horrific thing happen to me but I saw a woman I admired speaking up about it, it would have made me feel less guilty, and it would have inspired me to think ‘this won’t hold me back, this is something that has happened but I am not a victim."

Praising the movement which was born of the exposé on Harvey Weinstein, Kaya says it brought the topic to the public's conscience.

"It was taboo and it happened to someone we didn’t know, and #MeToo showed us it could happen to your friend, your sister, the women serving you food in a restaurant, it doesn’t just happen in movies.”

Get ready, because not one, not two but three more of Margaret Atwood's novels are being adapted for the small screen.

The novels depict the struggle to survive as some of the last humans on earth in a desolate landscape.

They mostly follow the story of the lead character Jimmy, but multiple other character plot lines are intertwined in his.

'We’re thrilled to be bringing MaddAddam Trilogy to television' Anonymous Content’s David Kanter and Bard Dorros told Deadline.

Instagram is the place to find obscure and bizarre beauty hacks, and the queen of makeup trends has got to be Huda Kattan.

Taking to her blog and Huda Beauty Insta page, which boasts over 24 million followers, the makeup guru shared a makeup trick she learned from none other than model Bella Hadid.

The trick is what gives Bella her flawless, airbrushed foundation look, and while a perfect base might be what we all long for, the logistics of the hack might put some people off.

A post shared by Huda Kattan (@hudabeauty) on

Essentially, the hack involves dunking your fully made up face into a vat of cold water.

It sounds painful, but it's been given the seal of approval from Huda herself.

Taking to the 'gram, Huda applied her foundation, concealer and baking powder before submerging her face in plain old uisce.

A post shared by Huda Kattan (@hudabeauty) on

Initially, the mogul wasn't completely impressed with the results, but after adding more bronzer and re-setting her brows, the effect was pretty flawless.

'It kind of seems like, because of the cold water, we're literally sealing the makeup into your skin, so I feel like the pores have closed, the makeup is inside my skin, it's become part of my skin, and that's also why it looks so smooth, I've never seen my skin so airbrushed,' she said, in a YouTube video demonstrating the hack.

Huda also advises that the face dunking is a better method for those with oily skin than dry.

A post shared by  (@bellahadid) on

She also admits that while it may give that flawless, Insta-worthy finish, it probably isn't so good for the health of your skin.

'I don't know if this is good for your skin, because if you think about it, you're kind of closing the makeup into your pores, so I think the removal has to be better, you cannot sleep with the makeup on your skin in general but this is going to be even worse.'

'You really want to make sure that you're removing it properly with a little bit of hot water, getting deep into your pores maybe using a little bit of a clay based moisturiser which really pulls (out) any product.'

Maybe we'll save this Korean beauty hack for special occasions , then.

Two Irish sister's have been named in Forbes' prestigious '30 Under 30' list thanks to the incredible business venture.

Izzy's Wheels, a company selling colourful wheelchair covers, is the brainchild Izzy and Ailbhe Keane.

Inspired by younger sister Izzy, who has spina bifida and is paralysed from the waist down, the business began its life as Ailbhe's final year college project in the National College of Art and Design before it's national launch in 2016.

Awkwardly deflecting the unwanted attention of strangers is a regular occurrence for many women on a night out.

Whether you're being pressed for your phone number or encouraged into accepting a drink, there are, unfortunately, many occasions when it seems like a simple no just isn't enough.

We become experts at proffering excuses, and regularly lament the fact that we feel obliged to thread on eggshells when attempting to communicate our disinterest in the exchange.

So, it's no surprise we often feel a surge of appreciation for anyone who helps to disengage us from such a situation as a recent tweet confirmed.

Amassing more than half a million likes in just five days, it's clear that the Twitosphere is here for any woman who helps another by interjecting when an attempted chat-up scenario is going quickly south.

Detailing an awkward exchange she had with a persistent male stranger, Twitter user, Amna, paid tribute to the woman who read the situation perfectly, and pretended to know Amna in an effort to bring the conversation to an end.

The tweet has clearly struck a chord with hundreds of thousands of people, with many women detailing their own experiences and providing their own advice.

"After the first refusal, if he persists it's time to DROP being polite," advised one Twitter user. "You aren't required to be polite to creepers or fear being thought rude."

"Be firm, be loud for all around to hear. Look him in the eye & say 'I SAID NO.' Then stop-don't say anything else. And don't apologise!"

It's been almost a week since Ross Hanlon disappeared in the Austrian capital, and according to emerging reports, police are now focusing their search on the River Danube.

Ross, who is from Athboy in Co Meath, had travelled to Vienna with a group of friends in order to celebrate the completion of his college exams.

The 21-year-old, who is a Business student at Dundalk IT, was last seen outside Flex nightclub in the Augartenbrucke area of Vienna at approximately 2am last Friday morning.

Speaking to The Independent, a spokesperson for the Austrian police provided an insight into the case's progression.

"The last thing we know is that the student went down the steps to the river and never came back," they said. "The police are searching with police boats along the Danube."

Ross's brother has confirmed the intentions of the police force on Facebook, informing family and friends of developments.

"Just a quick update on Ross, the police are stepping up their search of the river with sonar and more resources," he wrote.

"Thanks to everyone who has helped and all the kind messages of support. Hang in there Ross, we are going to get you home."

Common sense would suggest that in order to prolong the life of our footwear, we should make a point of giving them regular rest days.

In an ideal world, we would wear a different pair of (fabulous) shoes every single day to work, but let's be honest, the vast majority of us don't.

While we may have a wardrobe heaving under the weight of our shoe obsession, a shocking number of them rarely get more than a monthly outing, while others are rarely off our feet.

With a commute to consider and weather to battle against, many of us opt for our old reliables, which is, perhaps unsurprisingly, a surefire way to reduce their lifespan.

Whether it's a pair of practical trainers, handy ankle boots or comfy pumps, we tend to play favourites with our footwear, but if you want to get the most out of them, it's time to mix it up.

Getting the best out of your purchases on the shoe front means you need to take the advice of Jim Kass of American shoe empire Allen Edmonds.

"The best way to extend the life of your shoes is to rotate them and use quality shoe trees after each wear,” he told Business Insider.

“As you wear your shoes, the leather soaks up the perspiration your feet give off. If you wear the same pair everyday, your shoes don’t have ample time to dry and they won’t maintain their shape."

So, if your new boots are the light of your life and you want them to remain that way, you're going to have to cut the cord and accept that a couple of outings a week are all you guys will enjoy together.

Suzanne Jackson has broken her silence following the recent controversy surrounding the authenticity Irish bloggers.

Earlier this month, anonymous Instagram account @bullshitcallerouter accused some of Ireland's top influencers of misleading their followers through the use of filters and photoshop.

The page, which attracted thousands of followers overnight, caused quite the stir online and prompted a number of influencers to rally together to create a campaign against online bullying.

In an emotional statement posted to Instagram last night, Suzanne said she felt compelled to address the issue after she and her family were left distressed after false accusations began appearing online.

"I am a firm believer in remaining positive and not letting myself be affected by negativity," the statement begins.

Hey guys, I am a firm believer in remaining positive and not letting myself be affected by negativity. On this occasion, I feel I have to speak out for myself and reassure you, the true, supportive caring followers, that a lot of what is been written and posted online is untrue. Unfortunately being in the public eye, it has its ups and downs which I accept. You take the good with the bad. But I will not allow people to force untrue information onto my followers. It’s not only extremely upsetting for me but also my family and team. I love knowing that I inspire people daily and for that reason I want to share with you that sometimes the testing situations will arise. And like me, you have to power through. Thank you to those who believe in me, my products and brands. Sue x

As if the last week of January wasn't bleak enough, we now have a whole weekend of terrible weather to enjoy too.

Fab.

Ireland looks set to be hit with a series of heavy rain showers, coupled with strong and gusty southwest winds and even hail and thunder at times.

According to Met Éireann, today will be mainly dry at first, though heavy rainfall in the west is expected to move across the country this afternoon, with some hail and thunder in places.

Afternoon temperatures will reach highs of six to eight degrees.

Showers will become isolated as we head into this evening, with overnight temperatures falling to zero to four degrees.

A similar story for tomorrow, with showers again due to spread from the west. Light westerly winds are also expected with highs of six to nine degrees.

Looking ahead to the weekend, further rain showers are forecast for both Saturday and Sunday – however, temperatures will remain high for the time of year, peaking between 10 and 13 degrees.

It's the little victories, really.
