As if the last week of January wasn't bleak enough, we now have a whole weekend of terrible weather to enjoy too.

Fab.

Ireland looks set to be hit with a series of heavy rain showers, coupled with strong and gusty southwest winds and even hail and thunder at times.

According to Met Éireann, today will be mainly dry at first, though heavy rainfall in the west is expected to move across the country this afternoon, with some hail and thunder in places.

Afternoon temperatures will reach highs of six to eight degrees.

Showers will become isolated as we head into this evening, with overnight temperatures falling to zero to four degrees.

A similar story for tomorrow, with showers again due to spread from the west. Light westerly winds are also expected with highs of six to nine degrees.

Looking ahead to the weekend, further rain showers are forecast for both Saturday and Sunday – however, temperatures will remain high for the time of year, peaking between 10 and 13 degrees.

It's the little victories, really.

We've all been looking forward to the weekend, but when the weather is like THIS, it's hard to get excited.

According to Met Eireann, today is going to be "wet and windy with spells of heavy showery rain continuing throughout the day." Lovely.

South to southeast winds are going to be very strong, but it will be warm out, with temperatures reaching up to 20 degrees.

Tonight, there will be heavy showers overnight and windy.

Tomorrow we'll be welcomed with heavy showers throughout the day, with some sunny intervals. Temperatures will reach up to 19 degrees.

It is finally time to break out the short shorts as the hottest day of the year so far is scheduled in for next week.

According to the Irish Mirror, temperatures are set to hit 27 degrees in parts of Ireland this coming Tuesday making it the best day of the year to date.

Temperatures will range from 23 to 27 degrees around the country, with the best places to catch some rays being inland counties like Laois and Offaly.

And just to make sure we finally get some Vitamin D, Met Eireann has predicted that the weather for the whole of next week should be good with Monday ranging from 21 to 26 degrees, Tuesday being a scorcher and the rest of the week being a comfortable 20 degrees.

Just as we thought we might be getting our long awaited summer a bit later this year, it's taken from us again.

Today has seen highs of 22 degrees and is set to stay like sunny and warm for the next few hours so make the most of it this evening after work if you can.

Unfortunately the weather is set to change from tomorrow once again, according to Met Éireann.

Saturday

Saturday will start off nice so maybe try squeeze in an outdoor brunch early to get a little bit of sun. The second half of the day however is set to change as cloud will tend to build and "the showers will become fairly widespread. Many will be heavy and a few thundery downpours are possible also."

Thunder? Are you kidding me?

Don't worry though, we won't be cold. We'll have that lovely humid rainy weather with temperatures set to hit 20 degrees. WHAT ARE WE SUPPOSED TO WEAR?

Sunday

Sunday looks set to be a duvet day you guys. Which those of you heading out on Saturday night might actually be happy to hear as that was your plan anyway. The day is set to be "a cloudy day with scattered outbreaks of showery rain. Heavier rain will develop along the east coast and across the northeast through the day."

There you have it guys, some maybe plan some indoor activities for the weekend like the cinema, or sitting inside a plane to a different country where it's sunny.

Don’t pack away the flip-flops just yet ladies!

After a very rainy Bank Holiday weekend in parts of the country, another heatwave has been forecast.

WOOHOO!

According to Met Éireann, a band of high pressure from the north and over Scandinavia is expected to push down over Ireland next week, causing temperatures to reach up to 25C, with lots of sunshine predicted too!

"It would be a bit premature to say we're definitely looking at another heatwave but certainly we shouldn't give up hope. The high pressure is there so it could develop over Ireland," said Met Éireann forecaster John Eagleton.

The sunny outlook comes after up to 89 millimetres of rain fell in parts of the east and midlands this weekend, causing flooding in some areas.

YUCK!

Bring on the sunshine!
