Yearly Archives: 2018

To be honest, I had no intention to start watching this show when I first saw it appear on my Netflix homepage.

I'm not big into reality TV and I felt like it would just be another one if these silly staged shows that make me feel like I'm losing brain cells by the second.

Yet, because some of my friends strongly advised it, I gave it a go and I am not afraid to say it, I fell in love with the all-new Fab Five.

Featuring Antoni Porowski, food and wine expert; Tan France, fashion expert; Karamo Brown, culture expert; Bobby Berk, design expert and Jonathan Van Ness, grooming expert, the reboot of the cult Bravo series Queer Eye for the Straight Guy sent five gay lifestyle experts to America’s Deep South to make-over the lives of men in distress.

All five guys have fun and engaging personalities and after a few minutes, you just wish you could be friends with them.

I guess you never know if it is true or not, but they all seem to genuinely get along well and to be best friends in real life, which makes them even more loveable.

Here is what Twitter had to say about the show, and I'd say it sums up very well what I've been feeling watching it.

Ulster rugby player Paddy Jackson is seeking to recover legal costs from his rape trial in Belfast.

According to RTE, Jackson covered the cost of his legal defence, which reportedly cost over £100,000.

He and teammate Stuart Olding were found not guilty in the trial, proceedings of which took a total of nine weeks.

A post shared by Paddy Jackson (@pjackson10) on

Blane McIlroy and Rory Harrison were also acquitted of lesser charges in the trial.

Jackson was represented in court by two defence counsels and a solicitor, and it is reported that he funded his own defence team.

A hearing has been scheduled on the matter for next month.

While the men involved in the trial were found not guilty, the trial sparked a wider conversation about rape culture and the way sexual assault is dealt with in the court system.

Maintaining our sexual health is extremely vital as we become sexually active.

Unfortunately, it is often neglected and pushed aside, maybe due to embarrassment or even the fear of being diagnosed with an STI.

However, the risk of not keeping up to date with your sexual health can mean that you may be infected and not even know.

This increases the chance of the infection spreading to your partners and so on, therefore, testing regularly can be just as important as using protection when practising safe sex.

According to a report released by the HPSC, STIs in young people (15-24) are on the rise, with a 11pc increase in 2017 from 2016.

The report states that Chlamydia in young people make up to 50pc of all cases reported, Gonorrhoea making up 39pc of cases and Genital Herpes making up 38pc of all cases reported.

An STI can occur in anybody regardless of their age, gender or sexual orientation.

According to research by the HPSC, it is more likely to occur to a person under the age of 25 who does not routinely use protection or has had more than one sexual partner in the space of a year.

Some patients may develop symptoms, yet some may not for months. The longer the infection goes untreated, the higher the chance of developing serious health complications such as infertility in both men and women.

The screening process has become easier than ever with many cases being carried out through a urine sample or a blood test.

However, in some cases an examination may be conducted with your GP or sexual health practitioner.

If you are diagnosed with an infection, it is crucial that you let your partner(s) know before the infection continues to spread to other and health risks increase, no matter how daunting it may seem.

HIV Ireland has provided a list of free HIV and STI testing clinics all over Ireland, ensuring you can find your nearest clinic.

If you are a university student, it is more than likely that the university’s health centre will provide full STI screenings.

Make sure you look out for special events such as Body and Soul week or SHAG week when these screenings become free.

Congratulations are in order!

Khloé Kardashian and Tristan Thompson have reportedly just welcomed their first child.

TMZ first reported on the happy news, and their sources say that the little girl does not have a name yet.

A post shared by Khloé (@khloekardashian) on

Khloé gave birth to her daughter at about 4am EDT today in a hospital outside Cleveland.

The 33-year-old received moral support from Kourtney, Kim, Kris, her best friend Malika, and Tristan (despite their relationship troubles), who were all present at the birth.

A post shared by Khloé (@khloekardashian) on

As far as the baby girl's name goes, the new mum previously dismissed rumours that she and Tristan were giving her the moniker 'Rose'.

Khloé did hint, though, that she and her baby daddy were considering names beginning with 'T' – but we have to wonder if they'll stick to that plan in the wake of his alleged cheating.

But in the meantime, we are sending massive congratulations to Khloé on welcoming her daughter!

If immersing yourself in the details of a true crime story is one of your favourite ways to pass time, then this new podcast is for you.

We have previously compiled a list of some of our favourite podcasts documenting crimes throughout the ages, but you guys had a few recommendations.

One that kept popping up was True Crime Garage, so we decided to give it a listen.

A post shared by @truecrimegarage on

Be warned, this podcast will make you crave a beer, as the two hosts begin each episode discussing their hop of choice.

And, as the name suggests, the hosts of this podcast record the show casually, in the garage.

The duo, named Nic and The Captain, discuss the most harrowing of crimes, usually split into two hour-long episodes dedicated to each murder or serial killer.

A post shared by @truecrimegarage on

Recent episodes include details of the mysterious case of Kenneka Jenkins, The Lululemon murders, and the disappearance of Kyron Horman.

From missing children to the world's most notorious killers, they cover it all.

As well as the details of the crime, their discussions are peppered with gentle banter and snippets of their own opinion on the issues and sub plots to hand.

Definitely a must-listen for any true crime junkies out there.

However, after smashing their 50,000 goals in mere hours, the campaign have continued to raise funds for the cause.

The goal has been re-set numerous times, to 100,000, 250,000 and 350,000.

Now, a final figure of 500,000 euro has been set as the goal for the campaigners, who have been blown away at the support for the campaign.

For anyone left disappointed that they didn't manage to get their hands on a Repeal jumper – worry not.

The wonderful humans at The Repeal Project are releasing more of these important sweatshirts, and this time, in a few different colours.

"May 2nd: we release coloured jumpers. Collaborating with some amazing groups and spokespeople" they wrote on Instagram.

"This is the official big fundraiser gig for the national campaign. The final few weeks are crucial to securing a Yes vote."

The jumpers originally went on sale in the summer of 2016, and completely sold out.

The project released another batch in March, once again completely selling out!

Hence why we're counting down the days to May 2nd.

The jumpers cost 25 quid, with all proceeds going to the Abortion Rights Campaign.

While we're here, be sure to check the voting register, and get yourself ready for the referendum on May 25th.

As millennials, we're expected to tuck into avocados at every meal, incorporate them into our beauty routines and even occasionally drink our lattes from their skins -we're not kidding.

So, it's safe to say that the avocado is much more than a trend, and more a lifestyle addition.

The obsession with the fruit has led to the launch of something we didn't know was possible – an avocado museum.

A post shared by the CADO (@thecado.co) on

Aptly dubbed The Cado, the pop-up experience celebrates all things avocado related.

Located in San Francisco, the quirky, immersive installation encourages patrons to snap amazing pictures, much like they would when uploading their avocado toast snaps to Instagram.

The gift shop will also give you an opportunity to buy some mental avocado products. According to Pretty52, there will be avocado milk and cereal as well as your regular t-shirts and badges.

A post shared by the CADO (@thecado.co) on

'Step into a world of the green you love to ‘gram and emerge with more than a pretty picture (but you’ll get plenty of those, too!),' reads the event description.

The exhibition is being held in a structure build out of 16 shipping containers with a very avo theme.

'Get ready to see the California Avocado in a new light as you walk through the skin and into the fruit.'

A post shared by the CADO (@thecado.co) on

The Cado will even play host to a section dedicated to avocado-related skin care, so prepare to leave the building feeling fresh-faced.

Tickets are available online now, so if you're heading to San Fran this summer, you may want to check it out.

Happy 'gramming.

We don't know whether to laugh or cry at the fact that this product exists…

Kristen Hampton, a reporter with WBTV in Charlotte, decided to review the 'Facial Slimmer Exercise Mouthpiece', well, just because. And we are so glad she did.

Kristen, who previously went viral with her 3-Second Brow video, gave a very matter-of-fact review of the device, which is apparently meant to slim "your fat mouth down".

"I wanted to bring you something new and exciting that I found on the internet that I thought you might enjoy," she explains in the Facebook Live video.

"But you probably want to know how it works before you buy it yourself."

Describing it as "a giant clown mouth", Kristen struggles to get it in.

But when she starts talking, we cannot help laughing.

"Anti-wrinkles around your eyes and help shape the overall look of your face," she says reading the description on Amazon, as she sucks her saliva back in.

While she does admit that she wants to give it a proper try before rating it, Kristen does have a suggestion for the developers: to make the bit that fits into the mouth smaller because "like no one's section in their mouth goes up that high."

And while she may not be ready to give her famous five star rating, Kristen does admit that she might wear it on a night out because it gives 'the full lips that all the women are going for".

Watch below, you won't regret it!

On the three-year anniversary of the marriage equality referendum in Ireland, we'll definitely be feeling like celebrating.

The referendum marked the recognition of the rights of LGBTQ+ individuals to express their love through marriage on the Emerald Isle, and it truly was a day to be proud of where we come from.

" target="_blank">Mother, one of Ireland's most iconic LGBTQ+ establishments, is throwing the party of the year to mark the occasion.

Yestival will be hosted in the Tivoli theatre, and the main performance on the night will come from the one and only Sophie Ellis Bextor.

'Across the two levels of the theatre, in association with Smirnoff, we’ll be rolling up our sequined sleeves, grabbing the Tivoli with both our glittered gay claws and tearing the roof off the place with the biggest queer party of the year,' reads the event description.

'Headlining the Mother main stage with an explosion of pop at the stroke of midnight, Sophie Ellis Bextor performs live with support from festival favourites & club residents, The Mother DJs. It’s Mother on the Dancefloor

A post shared by Mother Dublin (@motherdublin) on

'Upstairs, enter a world of gender bending performance, trippy theatre, bangin’ tunes and very special sparkling guests as our theatre space is transformed into a queer performance haven.'

Tickets are available right here from Eventbright, but get in there fast, as tier one has already sold out.

Comedy can feel like a male-dominated area of the entertainment industry.

However, Electric Picnic is taking steps to rectify this.

For the very first year, Ireland's biggest festival is introducing an all-female comedy lineup on Thursday night.

A post shared by Aoife Dooley (@aoife_dooley) on

Early-arriving festival attendants will be treated to a plethora of comedic talents on the Hazel Wood stage.

Aoife Dooley, Lisa Casey, Sharon Mannion, Aine Gallagher, Ruth Hunter, Ashlee Bentley, Sahar Ali, Blaíthín De Burca, Aoife O'Connor, Christina McMahon, Orla O'Doherty Brown, Fiona Frawley and Grace Mulvey will lal be performing on the night.

One of Ireland's most noted contemporary comedians Joanne McNally will be MC for the event.

A post shared by Electric Picnic (@epfestival) on

According to EP, the idea was concocted by Festival Director Melvin Benn and Emily O’Callaghan.

'Emily, a sometime stand up herself, had noticed a lack of female talent in the comedy line up at many festivals, as did Melvin.'

'Separately, striving to bring more gender balance to the festival and the music industry in general, Melvin started the ReBalance programme in the UK and he will now extend the principle with the Comedy Stage at EP.'
