It's the weekend gals, and it can only mean one thing: bring all the pancakes, eggs benny and mimosas cause it's brunch time!

If you fancy staying at home and enjoying your food in the comfort of your jammies, we have the recipe you need: these tasty waffles, created by The Happy Pear.

"This is a great recipe that works perfectly for pancakes too. Dave uses this recipe most weekends to make either pancakes or waffles for his daughters – the same batter works great for both.

To make waffles, you will need a waffle iron or waffle maker, but don’t let that put you off – we got ours for €20 online and it’s a great toy! We like to serve our waffles/pancakes with coconut yoghurt, homemade chocolate spread and berries, with a drizzle of maple syrup – just delish!"

So get cooking and enjoy!

Healthy waffles

Ingredients

  • 250g buckwheat flour/ other flour of choice
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder (1½ teaspoons if using white flour)
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • 3 tablespoons maple syrup
  • ½ a banana or 2 tablespoons ground flax seeds
  • 3 tablespoons almond butter
  • 400ml rice milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Method

1. First step, turn on the waffle iron.

2. To make the batter, whiz all the ingredients together in a blender until smooth.

3. Once the waffle iron is hot, spray it with vegetable oil to prevent the waffles from sticking. Pour in the batter, ensuring that you have added enough to cover the full iron, and leaving a bit of room for the waffles to rise slightly.

4. Cook in the waffle iron until they turn nice  and brown. Remove and add toppings of your  choice (see intro, and see the photo for other serving ideas).

The Happy Pear twins are back with a new book, packed with affordable, quick and easy veggie options, as well as clever meat-free versions of popular favourites and inspiring advice on how to be healthier!

With a huge section of economical easy dinners that can be rustled up in 15 minutes (Thai golden curry, one-pot creamy mushroom pasta); gorgeous hearty dishes (goulash, Greek summer stew); a selection of plant-based alternatives to family favourites (burgers, hotdogs), AND irresistible treats (summer fruit Bakewell tart, double choc brownie cake), Recipes for Happiness is your new favourite cookbook!

Ocean's 8 is not just a great film. Nor is it just a feminist film. It's so, so much more than that.

There's a theory in film called the Bechdel test. Basically, you listen to the amount of conversations a female character has with another on-screen female. By figuring out how many conversations are centred around men, you can figure out whether or not women were involved in the making of the film.

Basically, fewer decent female conversations = less women being involved in the production.

Ocean's 8, this summer's most hotly anticipated film, takes the Bechdel test and smashes it. The cast itself is enough to get us excited, we talking Sandra Bullock, Cate Blancett, Rihanna, Helena Bonham Carter, Mindy  Kaling, Sarah Paulson, Anne Hathaway and Awkwafina the film has already smashed the US taking in over $41.5 million (£30.8 million) in its first week.

A post shared by Ocean’s 8 (@oceans8movie) on

Over the last year feminism and representation has been a hot topic. Thanks to the Time's Up and Me Too movements world-wide, women are standing up and demanding equal and fair representation. Stereotypes are no longer acceptable. The women are here, the spotlight is ours and we refuse to apologise for it.

That's exactly what Ocean's 8 does. The film starts with Deborah Ocean (Bullock) providing the parole board with a sob story of how she had changed since prison, complete with mention of her dead brother Danny Ocean (George Clooney from the original series) and tears.

But that's the thing, it's an act. She serves them with the narrative they want to hear. Successful, she then struts out in an evening dress and proceeds to set herself up thanks to a high-end shoplifting spree. She's smart, she's sharp, she's fearless, but most of all she's human. We eventually find out her plan to get revenge the man that framed her and put her in jail, much to her right hand woman's, Lou (Blancette), annoyance.

A post shared by Ocean’s 8 (@oceans8movie) on

But that's only part of the plan, they're going to steal a $150 million necklace off the neck of film star Daphne Krugler (Hathaway), right in the middle of the met Gala. Could the stakes possibly get any higher?

In typical heist movie fashion, the leader goes about assembling her crew. First they get the struggling fashion designer (Carter with an inexplicable Irish accent), to get them close to the target – by designing her dress for the gala. Then they need the diamond expert (Kaling), desperate to move out from under her domineering mother, followed by a slouchy pickpocket (Awkwafina), an ice cool hacker (Rihanna) and a bored suburban mother who never quite got out of the game (Paulson).

While each member of the heist team has a different function, none of them fall under stereotypes so often applied to women in any type of action film. Blachette's character could be the typical leather-clad club fixer, but she has a heart of gold,  Eight ball (Rihanna) has a touching moment with a little sister and Bonham Carter struggles with ageing. Even Hathaway's petulant and spoiled antagonist has surprising depths.

The high point of the plot is definitely the glitzy Met Gala, where big stars like Kate Holmes and the Kardasians make cameo appearances. Just when you think the heist is pulled off, it isn't, keeping you guessing in typical heist style. The dialogue is flows with the trademarked wit of the series as does the sharp cinematography.

So seriously, ladies, go see it. Bring your friends, your sisters, your mothers, your daughters and any woman on the street that looks like she might need a bit of female empowerment.

As Debby Ocean says in her pre-game speech: "We're not doing this for ourselves. We're doing this for the 8-year-old out girl there dreaming to herself at night about becoming a criminal."

Okay we're not condoning robbery here, but as girl gangs and positive messages go, this is unarguably one for all ages.

Ocean's 8 is released on Monday June 18th in cinemas nationwide.

Stuck for how to style that swimsuit?

If you're not already following the stunning and sartorially sensational Emma Zoey Roche, then we have to say – you're missing out.

Emma is one of my all time favourite style inspirations, with her knack for creating perfectly on-trend while simultaneously edgy ensembles.

While her outfit posts get the like from me on the regular, it's her swimsuit styling that's been catching my eye time and time again over on the 'gram right now.

Holiday outfit planning can be a bit of a nightmare, especially if you're planning on hitting some pool parties or beach clubs while you're away.

However, Emma is the absolute poster girl for how to put together hot weather attire the right way.

From the unexpected addition of a white crochet jumper and gold belt to a leopard print swimsuit, to the styling of the perfect floral kimono teamed with lashings of gold jewellery, I'm taking notes for my own holidays.

And if she can't find the exact link for the item she bought, or if it's out of stock thanks to her influence, she'll post up the closets alternative. Sound and stylish AF.

If you're heading away and need some suitcase packing inspo, make sure you go and giver her a follow.

Wilde restaurant has quickly become our new favourite spot this summer. For the month of June, they've launched a beautifully curated, indulgent rosé menu. It's all about those summer wines and summer vibes.

Their covered gardened terrace is just the place to enjoy a refreshing rosé and elegant wine tasting experience.

The best part is that you can find your perfect rosé by sampling the delectable ones available in their Flight of Rosé. It's just €15 for three 75ml glasses of these gorgeous wines.

The three unique tasting selections include the celebrity favourite Whispering Angel, a light and fresh rosé with a white peach expression; M de Château Minuty, a citrusy rosé with a rounded feel; and Le Bijou, elegantly balancing aromas of wild strawberries, citrus and flowers.

These three wines all come from France, with a special focus on the home of rosé, Provence.

You'll learn all about these exquisite wines while relaxing on Wilde's sunny, 1930s inspired terrace.

The three delicious rosés are also available as single glasses or chilled bottles.

And for those of you who love your spirits, there are two limited edition artisan cocktails being served up on the terrace, too: the sweet Cherry Blossom G&T and the lavish Rosé Spritz, both perfect for this season.

However, as we all know, any time is rosé time! Wilde is the perfect place to indulge.

In a progressive and necessary step, the UK Government is pledging to support the criminalization of upskirting.

The act of taking a picture or video footage up a woman’s skirt without her consent or knowledge has been a grey area until recently.

Gina Martin, who launched the campaign to make upskirting illegal after she was the victim of the heinous act, shared her delight on Twitter at the move:

Gina previously shared her story on being a victim of upskirting earlier this year – telling This Morning how poorly the incident was dealt with by police.

Gina was at a music event when a man stuck his phone under her skirt and snapped a picture. After grabbing his phone and reporting it, nothing was done.

The image was deleted, and the police could not take action as it was not technically a graphic image as Gina was wearing underwear.

Katie Ghose, chief executive of Women's Aid, told The Independent: 'We welcome the Government taking decisive action to make upskirting a criminal offence.'

'This form of abuse is painful and humiliating for victims and often has a devastating impact on all aspects of their lives.'

Last year, Tánaiste Frances Fitzgerald, informed her party that she is making it a criminal offence to photograph or film up a woman’s skirt without her express consent in Ireland.

The move coincided with the expansion of the definition of ‘revenge porn’ and seeks to deal more effectively with an act known as ‘upskirting’ in addition to the publication of voyeuristic material.

Commenting on the legislative change, an Tánaiste said: “It is important that we ensure our laws can deal effectively with phenomena such as so-called revenge pornography and the publication of voyeuristic material without consent, as recommended by the Law Reform Commission’s report.”

If you've longed to go to a masked ball ever since watching Gossip Girl, look no further than the Veuve Clicquot Masquerade Ball at Body & Soul this year.

As night descends on the festival on Saturday, June 23, people will be donning masks to be whisked away to a whimsical world of fantasy and fun.

The Masquerade Ball is set to be filled with theatrics, burlesque, dancers, and, of course, uplifting disco beats to keep you bopping till the break of dawn.

There will be glamour and decadence dripping from every surface, so get ready to wear your best flapper couture or Sofia Coppola Marie Antoinette chic. It'll be an eclectic mixing of eras, and we can't wait to see what the revellers decide to wear.

This year the ball is inspired by Madame Clicquot, the 'Grand Dame of Champagne’, who pioneered the development of early champagne as a businesswoman.

She's who we have to thank for the world's first ever blended Rosé Champagne, and honestly, we can't express our gratitude. This ball marks the 200th anniversary of Rosé Champagne – it's been a good two centuries of sparkling pink drinks.

As for the music (who could forget that), Aoife O'Neill will start off the night with some disco vibes, before Jus Damien brings us into 80s high energy, new disco, and electro beats.

Big Daddy Can will keep the party going, as will DJ Colin Devine, whose renditions of guilty pleasure songs will keep us grooving. Finally, PrYmary Colours will close out the night with their own original, energetic tunes.

If you can't make it to the Masquerade Ball, the Veuve Clicquot Garden and Sparkling Conversations Salon will provide plenty of fascinating talks (as well as champagne pairings and tasty treats).

From journalists to DJs to chefs, these are sure to be some thought-provoking discussions. The talks will especially focus on female pioneers in honour of Madame Clicquot.

So if you're a fan of masked whimsy or inspirational women, there's plenty for you at Body & Soul!

After a quarter of a century of Boyzone, the lads are closing this particular chapter in their lives.

The boy band, made up of Keith Duffy, Michael Graham, Ronan Keating, and Shane Lynch, just announced their final album and farewell tour.

"When we started out as five young Dublin Northsiders, eager to face the world, we never imagined that we'd still have an army of fans some 25 years later… If you'd seen our famous first TV appearance on The Late Late Show, you'd probably be surprised too!" they wrote in a statement on their website.

Boyzone has released six albums, and the members say their musical career has been 'the stuff of dreams'.

A post shared by Boyzone (@boyzoneofficial) on

"We really can't put into words just how much you, the fans, have supported us along the way. Without that support, we would have never achieved what we have, and for that we're eternally grateful," they shared.

The four men also paid tribute to late Boyzone member Stephen Gately in the statement. He died at the age of 33 from pulmonary oedema, or fluid accumulation in the lungs.

"We were immensely touched by all the tributes and messages of support that helped us through the dark days," the band members wrote, "Stephen was our brother and will always be at the very the heart of Boyzone."

A post shared by Boyzone (@boyzoneofficial) on

The four remaining members of Boyzone expressed that they feel they've outgrown their boy band days.

"We're certainly not boys anymore, and we all feel that we should now call time on our lives together as Boyzone and go out on a real high," they noted.

The band will be embarking on a farewell tour this winter, with a show in Belfast's SSE Arena on January 23 and another in Dublin's 3Arena on January 24, as well as gigs throughout the UK.

Tickets go on sale on Friday, June 22 at 9am.

A post shared by Boyzone (@boyzoneofficial) on

Their last album is entitled 'Thank You & Goodnight', and it'll be out this November with a dozen new tracks, including one dedicated to Stephen:

"We're especially excited to share a very special tribute to Stephen in the shape of a new song, 'I Can Dream.'

"We came across a demo that he originally recorded for his solo album in 2002 and we've had the opportunity to re-work the song and add our harmonies alongside his lead vocal.

"It was a bittersweet experience to hear all our voices together again. It's the closest the five of us will ever get to being in a room together again making music."

They added, "We know this love's forever. That's all that matters, no matter what…"

When speaking about Irish history, it often entails of the men who fought for the independence of our country and who created and shaped modern Ireland.

However, there are many women who have worked towards the same goals too. Each of these women have done something that changed Ireland for the better:

Constance Markievicz was the daughter of an Arctic Explorer and childhood friend of W.B. Yeats. She first became politically active when she was a student in London.

In the early 1900’s, she returned to Dublin and she joined a great number of national movements including political party Sinn Fein. In 1911, she spoke at an Irish Republican Brotherhood demonstration in front of 30,000 people, threw stones at pictures of the British monarchy and burned a British flag stolen from Leinster House.

She was jailed for one month as a result.

In 1913 she joined the Irish Citizen Army, which was a small volunteer force which was formed due to trade union conflicts and lockouts. She personally paid for food for all of the workers by taking out several loans and selling all her jewellery.

In the 1916 Rising she fought in St. Stephen’s Green as second in command for six days straight. When the fighting ended she was imprisoned and She was sentenced to death, but the judge reduced it to life in prison ‘on account of her sex’.

In response, she said, ‘I do wish your lot would have the decency to shoot me.’ After the Rising, she turned her hand to politics and was elected to the British House of Commons in 1918; the first woman to ever be elected. She refused to take her seat and instead joined the newly established Dail Eireann. She served as Minister for Labour between 1919-1922, making her the first female cabinet minister and only the second ever female government minister in all of Europe.

Rosie Hackett had a Dublin bridge named after her in 2014. She was a trade unionist, founder of the Irish Women Worker’s Union and support of the nationalist movement and the 1916 Rising.

In 1909, she joined James Larkin’s Irish Trade and General Worker’s Union and had a prominent role in the 1913 Lockout, mobilising the workers of the Jacob’s biscuit factory (where she worked at the time) to strike in solidarity with others.

She lost her job and went on to work as a clerk in the print shop of Liberty Hall. She became involved with the Irish Citizen Army and the leaders of the nationalist movement, and was trusted with highly secretive messages, errands, and tasks.

When some of the leaders were struggling to print the 1916 Proclamation (which Padraig Pearse would read on the steps of the GPO declaring Ireland and independent republic) her expertise saved the day; she was the only woman ever allowed into the printing room.

After the rising she spent the rest of her life working tirelessly in trade unionism, securing better rights for Irish workers all over the country.

Hannah Sheehy-Skeffington was born in 1877 and she was a suffragette and Irish nationalist.

She founded the Irish Women’s Franchise League and was instrumental in getting women the vote. She was also a founding member of the Irish Women Workers’ Union. It was unusual for Hanna to attend university in that time period. When she was an undergraduate, she was asked to sign a petition going to the House of Commons about women’s suffrage. That was when she became a feminist.

As an adult, Hanna worked as a teacher. She married Francis Skeffington in 1903. They took each other’s names as a mark of honour and respect. They both founded the Irish Citizen newspaper in 1912 and they also founded the Irish Women’s Franchise League alongside Margaret Cousins in 1908, a suffragette group that fought for women’s votes.

The IWFL offered a different approach to previous groups. It wasn’t easy for them because so many male politicians were against women getting a vote.

The IWFL was not just linked to suffrage, but also to nationalism, and reflected how Hanna and Cousins were both university graduates from middle-class Catholic and Protestant backgrounds.

Veronica Guerin was a determined journalist who investigated and exposed Ireland’s drug criminals. She began working in public relations in the 1980s and she transitioned into journalism in 1990, she wrote for the Sunday Business Post, Sunday Tribute and Sunday Independent.

She pursued a story regardless of the risk involved. She developed close relationships with both the police force as well as the criminals. In October 1994 two shots were fired into her home as a warning from the criminals and Guerin was given a 24 hour police escort and continued working.

Convicted criminal John Gilligan attacked Guerin and threatened to kill her and her family. And she answered her front door to a man who was pointed a gun at her head but then shot her in the leg as a threat. In 1996, she was presented with the prestigious International Press Freedom Award by the New York based Committee To Protect Journalists.

She was the first ever European journalist to be put forward for the award which was given in recognition of the value of her work internationally. Later that year two men who were allegedly working on Gilligan’s orders were following her on a motorbike, they pulled up beside her car at a set of traffic lights and shot her dead. Her death caused public outrage.

She was the most famous journalist in Ireland. Her exposes on the criminal underworld in Dublin and the violent rise of powerful drug dealers captured the attention of the nation.

Mary Robinson was the first female President of Ireland.

The Mayo native was a well established barrister and Senator before she was elected as President of Ireland in 1990. She fought for the right to the legal availability of contraception, a removal of the requirement that married women resign from the civil service, and the right for women to sit on injuries.

She passed two important bills into law; legalisation of contraception and decriminalising homosexuality. After her first term, she resigned and she became the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.

She resigned in 2002 and she still continues to work on various humanitarian, environmental and political issues globally.

It seems people can't resist Ireland's charms. I mean, where else are you going to enjoy pints at midday without judgment?

We're ranked at number two on TripAdvisor's list of countries with the most excellent service in the world this year.

Iceland came out on top, with the UK just behind us in third place, the Irish Independent reports.

These awards were based on the percentage of properties that received a Certificate of Excellence for 2018 in each country or city.

The following are the top ten most excellent countries to travel to in the world, according to TripAdvisor:

  1. Iceland
  2. Ireland
  3. United Kingdom
  4. Greece
  5. Morocco
  6. France
  7. The Netherlands
  8. Italy
  9. Portugal
  10. Belgium

Clearly, Europe has the travel game in the bag, but it's also exciting to see Morocco ranking so high.

The Certificate of Excellence is given to experiences, restaurants, and accommodation through an algorithm 'that takes into account the quality, quantity, and recency of user reviews'.

  5. Amsterdam, The Netherlands
  6. Dublin, Ireland
  7. Bali, Indonesia
  8. Krakow, Poland
  9. Glasgow, UK
  10. New Orleans, USA

This is the first time TripAdvisor has decided to rank destinations based on Certificates of Excellence.

Now, if you're looking for a somewhere to holiday with amazing accommodation, Chicago tops the list of cities in this department. Add their famous deep dish pizza to this, and we're practically ready to book our tickets now.

As for thrilling experiences and attractions, Costa Rica is the place to be, as it has the highest percentage of Certificates of Excellence in this category.

Our capital city has become a haven for foodies, and that's reflected on the list of most excellent restaurants for 2018:

Phubbing is an generational phenomenon, which has exploded since the development of the smart phone.

Phubbing can impact your dating life pretty drastically, and involves paying more attention to your phone than the Tinder guy sitting across the table at Bunsen.

However, this dating faux pas can leak into established relationships, as partner phubbing, or pphubbing.

How many times have you been chilling on the couch with bae only to realise you have been engrossed in Instagram for 20 minutes and completely missed all of his or her commentary on whatever you're watching?

Or have you ever noticed that you don't talk as much on car journeys, because that hilarious Snapchatter's story has you all too amused.

While checking your phone on the regular isn't bad, it can cause tension within relationships, especially if your partner feels like your phone gets more attention than they do.

'What we discovered was that when someone perceived that their partner pphubbed them, this created conflict and led to lower levels of reported relationship satisfaction,' professor James A. Roberts, Ph.D, told Elite Daily, after conducting a study on the phenomenon.

'These lower levels of relationship satisfaction, in turn, led to lower levels of life satisfaction and, ultimately, higher levels of depression.'

So that's definitely something to be wary of if your hand is itching to check your tweets during date night.
