Our social media pages have been chock-a-block with videos of beauty gurus trying out the infamous black charcoal masks that everyone has been obsessed with lately.

The masks offer an intense pore purging, and many videos of the painful extraction method have gone viral.

Now, one aesthetic facialist has spoken out against the masks, claiming that they could be highly damaging to the skin.

A post shared by Giada Temporin (@giada_temporin) on

Andy Millward, a member of the British Association of Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology and registered facialist, took to Facebook to pen a post against the masks after seeing them in action.

"To anyone tempted by or intrigued by these 'Black Charcoal Peel Off Pore Masks'. DON'T. JUST DON'T!!"

"They look very damaging the skin. Literally ripping the surface layer of skin off (& probably the vellus hair with it) so of course it's going to feel soft & smooth underneath."

"As for all those "blackheads" it pulls out. The majority of the oils pulled from the skin will be sebaceous filaments and actually needed by the skin so will be replaced within 30 days anyway to ensure healthy skin balance," he said.

"Blocked pores are entirely different to sebum lined pores."

"As a one off, the skin is likely to recover without issue but continued use, stripping away the skins natural oils and irritating the skin is a sure fast track to secondary skin concerns. You have been warned!"

So while the beauty gurus may make it look easy, it could actually be ding more harm than good.

Perhaps only applying the masks to areas that actually have blackheads would be the best bet, to avoid uprooting any necessary oils.

Just watching the video of the charcoal mask fail is making our eyes water…

Gwen Stefani's 1995 hit Just A Girl, which she penned for her band at the time No Doubt, is  hailed as a catchy feminist anthem.

Defining herself as "pro-woman," the bleach-blonde singer reflected on the message behind her song in a behind-the-scenes video, and opened up about what inspired her to write the song.

A post shared by Fa(n)ny (@effheydoublenwhy) on

“I can remember thinking, ‘Wow, I’m in the car right now, I’m driving home, it’s like one in the morning and if something did happen to me, I’m vulnerable because I’m a girl," she said.

"And you start to think, ‘Wow, maybe people actually look at me different because I am a female."

A post shared by Gwen Stefani (@gwenstefani) on

“I just wanted to write a song to express how I was feeling in that moment and I never in my wildest dreams thought that anyone would hear it,” she admitted. after saying that she penned the track at a time when she thought that she couldn't write music.

“I think that when I do that song now, it still feels like it represents, it’s beyond an age, it just represents a feeling so I feel really proud of it.”

The song represents the frustration felt by Gwen ta the time as her parents were exceptionally overprotective of her because of her gender.

A post shared by Creepy Cute  (@kawaiiclothingxo) on

"My parents were quite strict with me and I was living at home, even into my 20s."

"And I would have to come home and knock my parents’ door. And it was frustrating because I was already like older,” she recalled.

We feel you Gwen, we feel you.

According to emerging reports, the Bus Éireann strike scheduled for Monday March 6 has been cancelled.

It has been established that both the NBRU and Siptu have accepted invitations from the Workplace Relations Commission to discuss the current situation with Bus Éireann on Monday.

Commenting on developments, Siptu Sector Organiser, Willie Noone, stressed that the intervention of the Workplace Relations Commission was vital.

"It has always been apparent that the expertise of the WRC will be required to deal with the serious and complex issues in this dispute," he said.

"In deference to a request by the WRC the scheduled strike action by SIPTU members in Bus Éireann, which was due to commence on Monday, has been suspended," he confirmed.

While Monday's strike has indeed been cancelled, NBRU General Secretary Dermot O’Leary does not appear to anticipate a swift resolution.

"The attitude displayed by Bus Éireann management to-date has left us with no option but to advise our members that they should remain on a war-footing and be prepared to engage in an immediate all-out strike," he said.

The dispute stems from cost cutting measures planned by the national bus operator.

It's been 20 years since Titanic was released amid a flurry of global publicity, and in honour of the Hollywood classic's anniversary, Retro Drive-in Movies will be bringing the Di Caprio classic to the silver screen again.

Over the course of St Patrick's weekend, the world’s biggest outdoor LED screen will take up residence in Dublin's Cherrywood, and for one night only, you and the squad can revisit Jack and Rose's tragic story… and argue over whether there really was any room for Jack on that board.

And it doesn't stop there.

With a nod to the real people behind the box office smash, every ticket issued for the Titanic Drive-in will be connected to a real passenger aboard the ill fated ship, complete with the passengers name, nationality and type of ticket.

Wait, we're not done.

If Titanic isn't your thing, Retro Drive-in Movies will also be playing host to a number of other classics including Stand By Me, The Princess Bride, and Top Gun to name just three.

Tickets cost €28 (plus booking fee) per car, so if you want in on the action, pick them up here!

Emma Watson is obviously a kind an gentle soul, and between her humanitarian work and her sweet demeanour, she really is a precious human being.

Emma showed how sweet she can really be in a recent interview with a Spanish broadcaster.

Emma, recreating her first ever scene in Harry Potter, interrupted the interview to tell the journalist that she had pen on her face.

A post shared by Emma Watson News (@emmacwatsons) on

Not only did Emma inform the now blushing broadcaster about her face-to-ink ratio, but then proceeded to get up and wipe the shmutz off the girl's face herself, before calling her makeup artist in to fix the damage.

The journalist was understandably embarrassed, but Emma attempted to put her mind at ease about the whole thing.

"I'm so sorry! I just, I know what it's like to have something on your face," apologised the Beauty and the Beast star, who was there to chat to the journalist with co-star Dan Stevens about the upcoming flick.

Dan attempted to break the ice, by dubbing the event "the day Emma Watson did my makeup."

Honestly, we'd take a pen to the chin if it meant Emma would give our contour the once over.

Ed Sheeran has been having a moment with Ireland, between his new song Galway Girl tugging at all of our heart strings, and his sold out Irish tour dates.

We thought all hope was lost when it came to ever getting tickets to Ed's gig, but now the singer is giving us some hope.

The star has come up with a treasure hunt, in which people have to find the lyrics to Ed's song in an unknown place marked by coordinates on this map.

The undisclosed location has already been revealed by some fans to be Eyre Square, Galway, which is fitting seeing as Ed's one that got away clearly lives there, according to his new tune.

Ed fans have until March 10 to get down to Galway and take a picture with the lyrics to be in with a chance of winning tickets to his sold out 3 Arena gig as well as a meet and greet.

Fans then have to upload the image it to social media with the hashtag, #DivideLyricsIE.

The M6 is going to be chock-a-block!

Being blessed with a pasty Irish complexion can make shopping for bronzing and sculpting products a little tricky.

We've all suffered through those moments where we suddenly realise that what looked like beautifully sculpted cheekbones in our bedrooms this morning, actually looks like two orange stripes lining our faces.

Unless you apply a layer or two of fake tan, most bronzers are simply too dark and orange-toned for cooler skin tones, but now one iconic bronzer is being re-launched in a shade for pasty girls.

Benefits Hoola Bronzer is a makeup bag staple loved by the Kardashians, makeup artists, and normal girls alike.

Now the iconic bronzer is getting a long overdue paler companion, in the form of Hoola Lite.

The shade is perfect for pasty girls all year round, or for fans of a tan in the wintertime when their post-holiday glow is less prominent.

The bronzing powder is already available online, and we can't wait to give it a try on our wintry complexions.

With mere hours to go until the weekend, we are (unsurprisingly) putting a great deal of thought into the various tipples we intend to taste test over the next 48 hours.

And while there were many contenders in the running, we're fairly certain that the first weekend of March will be dedicated to the creation and consumption of a rose raspberry G&T.

If you plan to join us on this one, here's the low-down on what you'll need.

Ingredients

  • 200g raspberry
  • 150ml gin
  • 150ml tonic water
  • 3 tbsp sugar
  • 1 lime juice
  • 3 tsp rose water

Method

1. Mix the rose water with 500ml of water. Pour into an ice mold and freeze.

2. Using a fork, crush the raspberries with the gin, sugar and lime juice.

3. Using a blender or a food processor, crush the rose-infused ice and pour into 4 glasses, filling up to about half.

4. Divide the gin preparation among the glasses. Top with tonic water and decorate with lime slices.

Twitter is losing the plot over Ed Sheeran's new album, but one song in particular is standing out to fans.

When Ed originally released his track list, there was one song that really caught Irish fans' eyes.

The new song, called Galway Girl, was released at midnight last night along with all the rest, and the hashtag is now trending in Ireland.

“I’ve got a trad band called Beoga. They’re actually from Belfast, but they’ve – it’s a fiddle, a pipe, a bodhrán and piano. And we really jam,” he explained to Eoghan McDermott on his 2FM show.

“It’s going to be good. I do think I’ll never be able to play another song in Ireland again because this will be the song."

With mentions of Guinness, Grafton Street, céili dancing and Carrickfergus, Ed's definitely paying homage to our Emerald Isle.

Whoever this song is written about clearly left a lasting impression on Ed!

We've been listening to it on repeat all morning.

Human remains have been found at the site of a former Mother and Baby Home in Tuam, Co Galway.

“These remains involved a number of individuals with age-at-death ranges from approximately 35 foetal weeks to 2-3 years,” said The Mother and Baby Homes Commission of Investigation.

“Radiocarbon dating of the samples recovered suggest that the remains date from the timeframe relevant to the operation of the Mother and Baby Home. The homes ran from 1925 to 1961."

The site has been undergoing excavations to investigate sub surface anomalies that were considered worthy of investigation.

The commission have now confirmed that “significant quantities of human remains have been discovered” in a structure which appears to have once been some kind of sewage container or septic tank.

Children's Minister Katherine Zappone said it was "very sad and disturbing news" in a statement.

"It was not unexpected as there were claims about human remains on the site over the last number of years."

"Up to now we had rumours. Now we have confirmation that the remains are there, and that they date back to the time of the Mother and Baby Home, which operated in Tuam from 1925 to 1961," she said.
