Gardaí have revealed they will deploy specialist 'terrorist spotting' teams for U2's performance at Croke park on July 22.

The officers will be dressed in plain clothes and will be on the look out for potential threats or risky behaviour, a task they also undertook during Prince Charles' Dublin visit last month.

The move, which was confirmed by Inspector Anthony Gallagher today, comes following the attack which killed 22 people at an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester last month.

Speaking to the Irish Sun, Inspector Gallagher said, “Our planning for major events is very robust and we are constantly looking at new developments, trends and threats. Our spotters will have the freedom to observe what’s around them and report back any suspicious activity.”

“We will have an adequate number of spotters to identify a number of risks and this will be their only role on the day.”

He added, “It’s important the general public know that we have confidence in our plans.”

He also revealed that similar 'spotters' will be on duty during major GAA matches and other large scale events taking place this summer.

A policewoman has been shot during an incident at a subway station in a Munich suburb this morning.

The officer and several civilians were injured by an assailant who reportedly grabbed the policewoman's gun.

According to German authorities, the incident took place during a morning police check at the Unterfoehring subway station.

The suspect was also injured and is now in custody.

Witnesses said the suspect took the officer's handgun and shot her and injured others at the S-Bahn station in the northeastern suburb of the Bavarian city.

Munich police said in a tweet:  "Several people were injured by shots. A female police officer was badly wounded."

According to The Telegraph, a Bavarian radio station reported: "According to police information, it is probably not a terrorist attack."

Police later said there had been "no political or religious motive" in the shooting.

LGBTQ Pride week is almost upon us, and to ring in the ultimate celebration of love, one Dublin venue is pulling out all the stops.

We love love, and we love pizza, and NoLita has just combined the two in a pretty spectacular way.

For one weekend only, NoLita on Georges Street, Dublin, will be creating their classic pizzas, but with a rainbow twist to represent Pride week.

The bar and restaurant have been showing off their brightly tinted pizza dough across social media, and it looks divine.

The marbled rainbow effect of the dye on the dough looks like the pizzas are set to be too pretty to eat.

A petition is currently spreading across social media in the wake of the publication of the Child Care Law Reporting Project, which revealed that a 14-year-old child was sectioned in a psychiatric unit for seeking an abortion.

The child and her mother believed they were being transferred to Dublin for a termination before realising that she was being admitted to a mental health unit.

Her psychiatrist told her abortion was 'not the solution' to her problems, despite the child feeling suicidal due to her pregnancy.

The petition, which began circulating yesterday evening, has garnered 8,051 of 9,000 necessary signatures.

'A young pregnant girl was incarcerated under the Mental Health Act because she wanted an abortion,' reads the petition description.

'The Government needs to guarantee that nothing like this can ever again happen.'

'Our laws are like living in the dark ages when it comes to abortion and I want to think that my own young daughter will have the choice and option to make her own decisions over her own body- not some psychiatrist who knows nothing about her but has a pro-life agenda of his/her own,' reads one of the powerful comments on the petition.

'The criminalisation of women just for having wombs in this country is absolutely vile, and this case concerning a GIRL is vulgar, it's primitive, it's despicable, it's disgusting.'

'I can't contain my rage,' said another.

'Looking at the report, it’s hard not to think that the psychiatrist in this case essentially used the Mental Health Act as a tool to force a child into continuing an unwanted pregnancy because of their own personal beliefs" said Abortion Rights Campaign spokesperson Linda Kavanagh.

Today marks Enda Kenny's final day as Taoiseach – a postilion he has held for the last six years.

The outgoing Fine Gael leader will chair his final cabinet meeting this morning where the agenda is likely to be rounded off with a formal resignation from Mr Kenny.

At 2:00pm this afternoon, the Dáil will resume and it is thought that he will tell TDs and the nation that he is stepping down.

It is likely that Enda Kenny will then give a short farewell speech before travelling to Aras an Uachtarán where he will hand in his resignation to President Higgins.

Fellow party leaders will be given an opportunity to speak in reply to Mr Kenny and the Dáil is expected to adjourn until tomorrow afternoon when attentions will turn to the election of his successor and the announcement of Leo Varadkar's new Cabinet.

It is expected that many of the current ministers will remain in place, however, some may change jobs.

So, what's next for Mr Kenny?

Now aged 66, he is not expected to run the the next election, but according to The Irish Independent, one source revealed 'He would like to remain close to the political action,"

The Pro Life campaign have spoken regarding the news that a 14-year-old girl was involuntarily sectioned in a psychiatric ward after seeking an abortion.

The child was sectioned under the Mental Health Act because her psychiatrist told her abortion was 'not the solution,' according to the recently published Child Care Law Reporting Project.

Pro Life Campaign spokesperson Cora Sherlock told the Irish Examiner that 'it is grossly irresponsible for pro-choice campaigners to be using this case as another opportunity to attack the Eighth Amendment.'

'We need to stop pretending that abortion treats suicide ideation or any mental health condition.'

'This false claim was enshrined in the 2013 law which has failed women and babies and will continue to do so until our laws reflect the peer-reviewed evidence in this area.'

'I find it troubling that the baby never seems to feature in pro-choice considerations. At the heart of this story is a mother and her baby boy or girl and we should be concerned for the welfare of both.'

'The report from the Child Care Law Reporting Project says that the girl and her mother thought she was being transferred to Dublin for an abortion and was instead detained,' said Abortion Rights Campaign spokesperson Linda Kavanagh.

An online petition is currently going viral, petitioning for a promise from the Government 'to guarantee that nothing like this can ever again happen.'

We all love a good Starbucks collab, and this one pairs one of our favourite celebrities with our need for caffeine.

Lady Gaga has partnered up with Starbucks to create set of vibrant, fruity drinks to raise money for the singer’s foundation.

According to Starbucks, 25 cent from every purchase will be donated to Gaga’s Born This Way charity.

Funds raised will go toward programmes that support youth wellness and empowerment by fostering kindness, improving mental health resources, and creating more positive environments.

'We’re healthier and happier when we live our lives with compassion and our communities are stronger when we treat one another with generosity and respect,' said Lady Gaga.

'Born This Way Foundation and I are so excited to partner with Starbucks to help inspire positivity and love through the Cups of Kindness collection.'

Unfortunately, Gaga's collab is Stateside only, which is a pity because we're loving the sound of the new drinks.

There's the Violet Drink. which blends blackberries and hibiscus with coconut milk and ice, and a new Matcha Lemonade which combines matcha green tea with lemonade.

These new Gaga-esque beverages will be served alongside menu classics like the Pink Drink and the Ombre Drink in the charitable line-up.

Made in Chelsea stars, Binky Felstead and Josh 'JP' Patterson have just welcomed their first child.

The pair announced their arrival yesterday when JP shared a heartwarming photo of him holding the new arrival in his arms, exclaiming, “I'M A DADDY!”

According to The Mirror, Binky and JP has previously confirmed that they were expecting a baby girl.

Earlier this month, Binky hinted that her baby could soon be on the way after sharing a photo of her and JP enjoying the sun alongside the caption: "One of the last weekends where it's just the two of us."

The couple recently announced plans to launch their very own solo reality show, with cameras following them in the run uo to their child's birth.

The title and start date are yet to be confirmed, but two one-hour long episodes of the programme will be aired in E4 sometime this year.

Binky and JP revealed the news about their pregnancy back in February, stating at the time that although they were not in a romantic relationship, they were committed to raising their child together.

However, since then, the pair have confirmed that they have decided to give their relationship another shot, but insisted it wasn't solely because of the baby.

Speaking during an interview on This Morning last month, Binky said, "It’s taken a while, we basically discussed things. We're back together because we love each other."

Josh added: "It was a case of just taking things slow, the worst thing would be to get back together for the baby. I think we have to realise when a child is coming into the picture that you both grow up together and both change together.”

Either way, congratulations are in order for the happy couple!

Avocados now make up 90 per cent of a millenial's diet.

We joke. But really, they're everywhere now, and some people are even making lattes out of them.

And just when we thought the obsession with avocados was over, we find this avocado art.

It's seriously impressive.

Australian-based carving artist, Danielle Barresi, has recently become Insta-famous due to her avo-art, and honestly, we can't get enough of it.

Many other artists have now followed in Danielle's footsteps, and it's pretty impressive work:

For some, flying can be a scary experience.

From motion sickness, to ear popping during take-off; many people fret during a plane ride… so, what about pilotless planes?

According to Reuters, the idea will come to life in the near future – and we don't mean five to ten years, we're talking about in a few months time.

airplane, airport, flying

Speaking ahead of the Paris Air Show, Boeing's vice president of product development, Mike Sinnett, said that "the basic building blocks of the technology clearly are available".

The VP, who is a pilot himself, explained that he hopes to "fly on an airplane next year with some artificial intelligence that makes decisions that pilots would make".

However, while the technology to do so is there, meeting safety standards is another matter.

"I have no idea how we're going to do that," Mike said. "But we're studying it right now and we're developing those algorithms."

He added that if a plane can't land safely, "we can't go there".

While we have the tech stuff sorted, and looking into safety procedures is all well and good, how many of us would actually want to fly on a pilotless plane?

"It appears that people are more comfortable with a pilot directly at the controls, and on the plane," an aeronautics expert, Stephen Rice, wrote in 2014.

Eh, yeah… obviously.
