Steve Whitmire, AKA the voice of Kermit the Frog, is said to be “devastated” after he was fired from the iconic role.

The puppeteer, who took over the role 27 years ago, has said he feels he has “failed in [his] duty” to Muppets creator, Jim Henson, who died in 1990.

In an emotional blog post written just days after his firing was made public, Steve wrote:

“For me the Muppets are not just a job, or a career, or even a passion. They are a calling, an urgent, undeniable, impossible to resist way of life.”

“I feel that I am at the top of my game, and I want all of you who love the Muppets to know that I would never consider abandoning Kermit or any of the others because to do so would be to forsake the assignment entrusted to me by Jim Henson, my friend and mentor, but even more, my hero.”

The voice actor, who joined the Muppets in 1978, said he has “experienced every possible emotion” since receiving the news.

According to Steve, he was given two reasons why he was being let go, however, he did not reveal what they were.

“Given the opportunity I remain willing to do whatever is required to remedy their concerns because I feel my continued involvement with the characters is in the best interest of the Muppets,” he said.

“I just want you all to know that I am sorry if I have disappointed any of you at any point throughout our journey, and to let everyone know that I am devastated to have failed in my duty to my hero.”

Steve was actually let go last October, but said he has remained silent in the hope that bosses would change their minds.

A spokesperson for the Muppets Studio confirmed the news and said puppeteer, Matt Vogel, would take over the role.

The Metropolitan police are investigating a series of acid attacks that took place in less than 90 minutes in east London last night.

It's been reported that one of the victims suffered “life-changing” injuries during one of the attacks which were carried out by by two males on a moped.

According to police, the attacks appear to be linked and two victims also had their mopeds stolen.

They also revealed that one male teenager had been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and robbery.

The assaults, which saw two suspects pull up to five people and douse them with the corrosive liquid, began at around 10:25pm when a 32-year-old moped rider was approached by the pair as he rode on the Hackney Road junction with Queensbridge Road.

The rampage continued until 11:37pm when the attackers fled after they confronted their fifth victim.

A witness to the Hackney Road attack said she saw the police treat the victim with water, while Sarah Cobbold, a local resident, said she went out on to her balcony after seeing flashing lights outside her flat.

Speaking to the Press Association, Sarah said: “It was just outside my flat, the victim was literally stood on my doorstep.

“It was probably about 10.30pm. I saw some reports that it happened at 10.25pm so by 10.30pm there were a couple of police cars and an ambulance there … Police had cordoned off the little area around the pavement and there was just a guy standing on my doorway and they were pouring huge, five-litre bottles of water over his head.

“He was standing, he seemed to be OK. After probably about 10-15 minutes he managed to walk unaided into the ambulance.”

The Met Police said in a statement: "Inquiries are ongoing and officers from Hackney CID are investigating."

Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik have sealed their reputation as the 'it couple' of a generation as they appear on the front cover of US Vogue.

In the August edition of the fashion magazine, the pair talk openly about gender fluidity in fashion as they both rock eccentric androgynous looks.

Speaking with Vogue's Maya Singer, the loved-up couple revealed how they often experiment with style by raiding each other's wardrobes.

Zayn asked: “What was that t-shirt I borrowed the other day? I like that shirt. And if it’s tight on me, so what? It doesn’t matter if it was made for a girl.”

“It can seem like everyone’s doing the same thing. Gender, whatever — you want to make your own statement. You know? You want to feel distinct.”

Gigi then added: “It’s not about gender. It’s about, like, shapes. And what feels good on you that day. And anyway, it’s fun to experiment…”

“If Zayn’s wearing a tight shirt and tight jeans and a big, drapey coat, I mean – I’d wear that, too. It’s just about, do the clothes feel right on you?”

Pre-flight pints could soon be a thing of the past as authorities in the Balearic Islands seek a ban on the sale of alcohol on board planes and in airports.

Tourism executives in Ibiza and Magaluf have asked the European Union to implement stricter rules when in comes to the consumption of alcohol while flying in an effort to battle anti-social tourism.

Pilar Carbonell, Head of Tourism for the islands, wrote in a statement:  "We ask the central government and the European commission to ban the consumption of alcoholic drinks on flights and in airports."

"The aim of the measure is to improve passenger security and also that of security forces in planes and airports in our islands, who are often faced with drunk passengers."

However, it's not yet clear whether the local authorities are seeking to ban drink on all EU flights or just those destined for the Balearic Islands.

According to reports, holiday makers at Dublin airport were not in favour of the strict rule.

"I only misbehave when I don't have a drink," said one.

Another frustrated flyer told Newstalk radio:  "Sure you have to have a drink when you are going on your holidays."

Mules seem to be the footwear of the season, with everyone from Penneys to Prada selling them.

We totally fell in love with Prada's recent 'Black Suede Slipper' which was launched earlier this summer, and retails for roughly €530.

However, we have found a Topshop dupe that costs a fraction of the price.

A post shared by Renata Grilo (@regrilo) on

And you literally cannot tell the difference.

The Topshop pair come in at €34, so you know… you're basically saving yourself 500 quid.

We think we need to indulge in a bit of shoe shopping…

When you head away on holiday, you bring a lot of valuable items with you.

Money, your passport, laptop and important travel documents to name a few.

Most hotel rooms these days have built-in safes for you to store all of your important belongings… but after watching this video, we might be wary of leaving them in the hotel safe in the future.

YouTuber, Brad Reid, was recently away on holiday and discovered a major flaw in the security of his safe.

Brad explains in his video that he forgot the password to his safe and had to ring reception to see if there was any way he could unlock the safe's door.

The reception desk told him to just press '000000' – the generic default code.

This code opens the safe no matter what password was previously put in.

In the video, which has been viewed 1.8 million times, Brad explains that all hotel safes could have the same default installation system, making it easy for people to steal from you.

Our advice? Check to see if '000000' works when you first enter your hotel room – and if it does, try find a safer place to hide your belongings.

We love pizza here in Shemazing! HQ, and could pretty much eat it every day of the week (if our bodies allowed us).

But pizzas on our feet? Yep, we were sceptical.

To be honest, we still don't really know what to think of them:

Adidas pizza trainers

They're probably the most extra footwear we've seen in a while.

However, only one pair were made and have been sold in a one-off auction on the Adidas website.

The runners were designed along with 49 others to represent every state in America.

And better yet, "100 per cent of the funds raised [will be] donated to Women Win, an organisation that empowers girls to build leadership skills and address gender equity through sport."

We think it's time to pop down to Art & Hobby and get creative with our runners…

Anyone who is scared of flying will know that no matter how many 'reassuring' statistics you hear about air travel, they don't amount to much when you're desperately gripping your armrest before take-off.

Acknowledging this, US Captain Ron Nielsen has provided nervous flyers with two simple (and practical) techniques to alleviate stress during air travel.

Appearing on the Today Show on NBC, the pilot firstly focussed his attention on take-off and urged the passenger to use their own body to calm themselves.

As the plane makes its way down the runway, you should tense your muscles, hunch your shoulders, clench your fists, cross your legs and clench your jaw.

Then as the plane takes off, hold the pose before releasing after approximately 30 seconds.

By physically relaxing your body, you will releases stress hormones namely cortisol and adrenalin and will automatically feel calmer.

And when it comes to turbulence?

Distract yourself by writing your name with the wrong hand repeatedly as this will focus your attention elsewhere thereby distracting you from the disturbance.

Dare we say it, these actually sound like they'll work.

Shia LaBeouf has taken to social media in the aftermath of his arrest at the weekend in an effort to apologise for his actions.

The Transformers star, who was arrested for drunkenness, disorderly conduct and obstruction in Georgia, claimed at the time that he had been arrested for 'being white'.

The actor, whose behaviour was captured on film, can be seen focussing his attention on a black police officer, saying: "You're going to hell, straight to hell, bro."

Commenting on his behaviour, Shia took to Twitter last night and acknowledged the severity of the incident.

"I am deeply ashamed of my behaviour and make no excuses for it," he began in a post which has been liked 25,000 times.

"I don't know if these statements are too frequent, or not shared often enough, but I am certain that my actions warrant a very sincere apology to the arresting officers, and I am grateful for their restraint."

"The severity of my behaviour is not lost on me," he continued.

"My outright disrespect for authority is problematic to say the least, and completely destructive to say the worst. It is a new low."

"A low I hope is a bottom. I have been struggling with addiction publicly for far too long, and I am actively taking steps towards securing my sobriety and hope I can be forgiven for my mistakes."

"No one is perfect we all make mistakes Shia, just get help and get better," responded one follower.

"I hope the best for you. Being broken, and humble is the absolute best place to be (though painful) I hope you find your way," added another.

Shia's altercation with the police took place in the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department.
