Birthdays can be daunting when you have no money, so we’ve compiled a list of cute and thoughtful gifts you can get for your best friend that won’t leave you destitute.

1. Collage
Build a cute collage with photos of you and your bestie.

2. Cake/sweets/cookies
If she is a sweet lover then get creative and make her favourite – maybe marshmallows, yum! Otherwise, who doesn’t love chocolate chip cookies or cheesecake?

3. Friendship necklaces or bracelets
They don’t have to be expensive, you can get really cute ones for cheap many places.

4. Body moisturiser
This is so easy to make yourself. Grab a cute bottle or jar. Get some almond and olive oil, essential oils and cinnamon sticks or vanilla pods to decorate. Combine everything in the bottle, make a cute label and wrap it up. Pretty as a picture!

5. Photo album
Get all of your favourite photos together and make a photo album.

6. Candles
Everyone loves candles that smell amazing and there are some great budget-friendly ones out there.

7. Books
Books can be personal and not too expensive if you do it right. Check online for cheaper prices and write a note on the inside jacket.

8. Hot chocolate set
Buy a cute mug, some hot chocolate mixture, marshmallows and a spoon and wrap it all up.

As we already know, Oprah is a very giving person and has made people cry with joy for many, many years with the lure of free stuff.

But this takes the biscuit.

One Twitter follower took the initiative and wrote to Oprah: “@oprah you look beautiful in that essence cover pic. WOW CAN I please have that dress? Cuz I know you won’t wear again lol love you”.

And the talk-show queen actually replied, saying YES!

Oprah wrote: “you’re right I won’t wear ever again contact my asst. and show her this tweet.”

The couture dress, pictured below in Essence magazine, arrived at her fan’s house a week later and she is now planning on wearing it to her wedding.

Lucky gal!

These tasty fritters will give you that comfort food satisfaction while still being full of green goodness.

What you’ll need:

  • 1 medium head of broccoli, chopped and steamed
  • 1 clove garlic, grated
  • 70g plain flour
  • 1 large egg
  • 40g Parmesan cheese, grated
  • Handful of basil
  • Salt and pepper

What you’ll need to do: 

  1. Beat the egg, flour, cheese and seasoning together.
  2. Add the broccoli, basil and garlic, mixing well to combine. Season.
  3. Shape the mixture into fritters one by one.
  4. Heat up some rapeseed oil in a frying pan and when hot add the fritters.
  5. Fry until golden on each side and place on some kitchen paper to drain any extra oil.
  6. Serve with a green salad.

You can make this dish gluten-free by replacing the plain flour with cooked quinoa.

Elton and David got married in 2005 and Elton serenaded his groom. The event reportedly cost $2, 500 per head.

If you thought that these weddings were expensive then you will never believe what the royals spend on theirs!

Kate Middleton and Prince Williams’s wedding was a budget affair at $33 million when compared to Prince Charles and Diana’s wedding which cashed in at $115 million.

Sheika Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum and his bride Sheika Hind Bint Maktoum’s romantic 1979 wedding cost $137 million and was held in Dubai. A hall especially for the event was built for 20,000 people and a five day national holiday was declared.

Oscar winning actor Jared Leto has claimed that he thinks Jennifer Lawrence’s falls may be an act.

Talking to Access Hollywood, the actor said: “You know, I’m starting to wonder if this is all an act.”

While we can see that Jennifer’s quirks may endear her to people, we are not convinced that a young actress would want herself falling over forever immortalised (it is the internet after all).

Jared also spoke about how he and Ellen were taking Jennifer off just before she announced him as Oscar winner. Jennifer can be heard saying: “Why are you laughing? What, is this funny?” moments before Jared wins.

Sounds like Jared is being a mean boy in the school-yard, so we can only put it down to a crush!

Two of pop’s hottest female stars have wound up in a public spat!

It started when Miley tried it on with Katy during one of her Bangerz concerts, leaning in for a cheeky kiss and then diving in, tongue-first.

When asked about the incident during a recent interview, Katy admitted she was unimpressed with the attention-seeking pop star.

“I just walked up to her to give her a friendly girly kiss. You know as us girls do. And then she like tried to move her head and go deeper and I pulled away. God knows where that tongue has been!”

Miley wasn’t pleased with Katy’s response and decided to take things to the Twitter arena, where she unleashed her claws:

The man who was sacked for using homophobic slurs against a co-star seven years ago will soon be making his big come back on Grey’s Anatomy.

Isaiah Washington took on the role of Preston Burke for the first three seasons of Grey’s Anatomy and is now set to return in a once-off appearance before his former on-screen lover Cristina Yang leaves in May.

Speaking about their relationship, screen writer Shonda Rhimes said in a statement:  “It’s important to me that Cristina’s journey unfolds exactly as it should. Burke is vital to that journey – he gives her story that full-circle moment we need to properly say goodbye to our beloved Cristina Yang.”

She admits that his departure seven years ago was a very difficult time for her to write the show, even though “some amazing things did come out of it”.

We’re excited to see what Isaiah Washington’s return will bring for this medical drama!

Cranberries generally have a lot of health properties. The superfood helps fight against cancer, controls cholesterol and it even helps you lose weight.

If that isn’t enough to convince you to make this tasty juice, then we’re not sure what is!

Ingredients:

  • 600g frozen cranberries, thawed (or fresh if you prefer)
  • 1.5l water
  • 200g sugar

Method:

  1. Place the cranberries and water in a saucepan and bring to a boil.
  2. Reduce to medium heat and cover loosely.
  3. Simmer 10 min. until the cranberries have burst.
  4. Strain through a colander lined with cheesecloth.
  5. Try no to press on the fruit to extract more juices, it will make the juice cloudy.
  6. Pour the strained juice back into the sauce pan and add sugar.
  7. Bring to a boil and simmer for 3 min.
  8. Let cool to room temperature before cooling the the fridge.

Sarah Jessica Parker was asked about Sex and the City 3 while on Ellen and she delivered some devastating news for anyone already making date plans for its cinema release.

“I’ve tried to make up some interesting answers every time I’ve been asked this question lately and the truth of the matter is there has been no real conversation about a third movie at all.”

This doesn’t sound good for SATC fans – if a movie was in the works, Sarah Jessica Parker would definitely know.

Is she trying to throw us off the scent or will there really be no third movie?

Guess we’ll have to wait and see!
