Comedienne’s cause of death is revealed
The official cause of comedienne Joan Rivers’ death has today been revealed.
According to the report released by the New York City medical examiner’s office, Joan’s death was caused by a lack of oxygen to the brain, brought on by complications of surgery.
The official statement reads: “The cause of Ms. Rivers’ death is anoxic encephalopathy due to hypoxic arrest during laryngoscopy and upper gastrointestinal endoscopy with propofol sedation for evaluation of voice changes and gastroesophageal reflux disease. The manner of death is therapeutic complication. The classification of a death as a therapeutic complication means that the death resulted from a predictable complication of medical therapy.”
The Fashion Police! presenter passed away on Sept 4th, having gone to a medical clinic to undergo a routine throat procedure.
It was reported shortly after that the 81-year-old had stopped breathing, and had been rushed to hospital for emergency treatment.
Joan’s daughter, Melissa, later broke the sad news of her mother’s passing in a statement.
Describing Joan’s death as ‘peaceful’, Melissa added: “My mother’s greatest joy in life was to make people laugh. Although that is difficult to do right now, I know her final wish would be that we return to laughing soon.”
