It's been 24 years since Sex and the City first aired, and we couldn't help but ask ourselves – what are the most iconic looks from Carrie and co.?

Nothing feels more disorienting than the realisation that one of our favourite series first started over two decades ago, but at the same time, we always love an opportunity to look back at SATC.

The series' fashion was notable as much for its hilarious missteps as it was for its breathtakingly gorgeous looks.

So, dear readers, sit back, relax, and enjoy all of the iconically wonderful (and occasionally terrible) sartorial moments from Sex and the City.

1) The Witches of Eastwick LBDs

First off, we could not relate to this episode more. Carrie, Miranda, Samantha, and Charlotte all attend a friend's wedding together, dressed like a stylish coven, and end up at the singles table. And to make matters worse, it's the BAD singles table.

Nothing's going to rain on their parade though, at least fashion-wise, and we love how each of their little black dresses shows off their personality.

2) THAT fur coat

Picture via Pinterest

Oh, you know the one. Nothing felt more cosmopolitan growing up that Carrie's (hopefully faux!) coat, giving her that devil-may-care look.

3) Miranda's overalls

Picture via Pinterest

Yep, these were pretty bad. At the time we couldn't help but think she looked like an overgrown toddler. Now, though, she just kinda looks like a guy you'd run into at District 8.

4) Samantha's gingham getup

A post shared by Kim Cattrall (@kimcattrall) on

Sam was serving some sexy Pollyanna realness in this gorgeous checkered print. If we're throwing a BBQ, we'll definitely be needing this outfit.

5) Charlotte's second wedding dress

Picture via Pinterest

Charlotte's first marriage was a hot mess, and that included the wedding dress. Actually maybe hot mess is the wrong term for it – it was too cold and stiff. Her second dress, when she tied the knot with Harry, felt much more like the real Charlotte: sweet, romantic, and pretty much perfect.

6) Carrie's first wedding dress from the film

While our haphazard heroine may not end up actually getting married in this Vivienne Westwood dress, it's a dream. A literal dream.

7) Carrie's 'beach party' outfit

Picture via Pinterest

Sorry, but… in what world does beach party warrant a cowboy hat? She does vomit later that night though, which pretty much sums up our feelings towards this errant accessory.

8) Carrie's opening look

Picture via Pinterest

We'd be remiss to pass over her classic tutu and tank top combo (That get bus water on them! The horror!). It's bubbly, it's fun, it's Carrie.

Picture via Pinterest

Okay, this is just one of Carrie's bouquet of fabric flowers. There's something so lovely about the simplicity of this purple blossom, though, and we love that it's paired with coloured trousers.

10) Carrie's tutu Paris look

Picture via Pinterest

It's difficult choosing just one of Carrie's Paris looks – from the ladybird print dress to that stripey number with the gorgeous floral design, her wardrobe is holiday GOALS.

This one feels especially poignant, though, because not only is she wearing it when Big comes to see her, but it also looks like a more grownup version of her look in the opening credits.

Author of Sex and the City, Candace Bushnell, as observed that modern dating has apparently led women to be "angrier". Has she heard of the #MeToo movement?

"Women have the same complaints about men as they did before, except their complaints are much harsher now," the bestselling writer told The Sunday Times regarding dating apps.

"They seem angrier. The rejection and the uncertainty of online communication, it hurts people's souls. It seems to be emotionally destabilising."

Bushnell was famous for her column for The New York Observer back in the 1990s, which was adapted into the Sex and the City novels.

The books led to a hit HBO series starring Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis, and Cynthia Nixon as four women in New York City, navigating romances, friendships, and womanhood.

The series ran from 1998 to 2004, and the success led to two films in 2008 and 2010 being released. The Carrie Diaries and Lipstick Jungle, also penned by the 60-year-old, were also adapted into TV shows.

Bushnell has been dating Jim Coleman for two years, and has commented on the two key things she's learned about finding a partner;

"At this age you want someone to be nice, you don't want someone who's critical or demeaning," she told The Sunday Times.

"It feels like when one is younger there can be this competition between partners. Maybe that's part of the sexual attraction, but that kind of stuff just doesn't work when you get older."

She added: "I think romance is something where you're not in a rush to get to the end. It's just about enjoying each other's company. It's doing things together."

She's got some pearls of wisdom, we must say. Some of the most iconic quotes from the hit show from Carrie Bradshaw are still applicable to the complex dating lives of women today.

Samantha Jones' groundbreaking attitudes to sex were also controversial at the time, but arguably educated an entire generation of women on sexual positivity.

Latch on to your Manolo Blahnik's, it looks like Carrie Bradshaw is set for a mysterious, and no doubt glamorous, return to our lives.

Sarah Jessica Parker uploaded a video to her Instagram account in Full Carrie Character over the weekend, strutting down New York City's streets like she owns the place.

The brief clip was set to the music of Sex and the City, and featured SJP in a vintage-Madonna-esque outfit; gloves, a mermaid-like tulle skirt, a purple beaded clutch and a pair of white lace heels.

SJP confirmed in the video's caption that her beloved character is back in our lives for a vital reason;

"My old friend. She is making a brief reappearance. Partnering with a great brand and supporting a cause we all care about. More to come. X, SJ," Parker wrote.

Sadly, this isn't a promotional video for a third Sex and the City flick; it's been confirmed multiple times that the movie isn't going ahead.

Rumours of a three-quel were being whispered about for years, but those hopes have been dashed,

We're going to assume it's just an upcoming brand partnership with a social responsibility/activism angle, which will feature SJP in Carrie character.

At this stage, we'll take what we can get after the feud between Kim Cattrall and her three co-stars…

There's something sad about reading about women 'feuding' with other women. We fight so hard for equality, we unite against #MeToo; we want to build each other up, not tear each other down. At the same time, not every woman will get on with each other, that's a normal fact of life. And certainly, women have been 'pitted' against each other for years, be there beef between them or not. Look at Britney vs Christina. Katy vs Taylor. Nicki vs Carli.

Another seemingly ongoing 'feud' played out in public this year in a way we never expected. There was always the rumours. Sex and The City stars Sarah Jessica Parker and Kim Cattrall played best friends on screen, but from the early stages of the series, the whispers started. Kim even went on to say publicly that the cast of four women shouldn't be expected to be friends in life just because they were colleagues.

Then Kim's brother tragically passed away earlier this year and while she thanked her SATC colleagues for the support, she denounced Parker's sympathies in a separate post that confirmed the pair certainly didn't see eye-to-eye.

"Your continuous reaching out is a painful reminder of how cruel you really were then and now. Let me make this VERY clear. (If I haven’t already)," she wrote on Instagram after Parker sent her condolences in a comment on the photo-sharing site.

"You are not my family. You are not my friend. So I’m writing to tell you one last time to stop exploiting our tragedy in order to restore your ‘nice girl’ persona." Sarah still insists the pair never feuded but this week, a photo has resurfaced that has fans wondering if the whole thing is bigger than both admit.

And it's SATC's Charlotte, played by Kristin Davis who has inadvertently reignited the rift it seems. The actress posted an old SATC photo on Instagram ahead of the 70th annual Primetime Emmy Awards. The photo, taken in 2004, shows Kristin with her co-stars Cynthia Nixon and Sarah Jessica Parker sitting at a table of Emmy Awards trophies.

The post noticeably excluded Cattrall leaving fans to speculate and voice their unhappiness with the move, saying it was "petty." Cattrall's Samantha was arguably the show's most popular character.

"I'm starting to understand why Kim decided not to make more films with you ladies," read one comment.

"Without Kim Cattrall SATC is nothing. Shame on you," said another.

"They didn’t earn those Emmys without her," added another.

Davis has yet to comment on the post and its backlash but we can't help but wonder (and feel a little bit saddened) by the rift that clearly lies between its beloved cast of women.

Kim Cattrall has shared a heartfelt photo in honour of her late brother.

Earlier this month the Sex and the City star revealed that her brother had passed away after she issued an appeal to the public to help find her sibling.

His unexpected death rocked her family’s lives. Christopher was a mere 55-years-old when he died.

The actress shared a photo from her trip to Scotland on Instagram on Saturday. She wrote, “Thank you to St Cuthbert’s Parish Minister in Edinburgh Reverend Peter Sutton and our wonderful, joyful Scottish friends for making us laugh today. Lighting a candle in memory of our brother, son, father, & husband, Christopher Adrian Alexander Cattrall. Forever in our thoughts. RIP xo.”

It is understood that her brother was missing for a number of days before his body was found. Kim explained that that he left his house without his phone, keys, wallet and left his door unlocked.

She stated that it was extremely unusual behaviour for her brother, “He would never leave his unlocked home without those items nor his 7 beloved dogs.”

On February 4, Kim revealed the devastating news that her brother had passed away.

“It is with great sadness that myself and my family announce the unexpected passing of our son and brother, Chris Cattrall. At this time, we ask for privacy,” she wrote.

It’s great to see Kim looking so happy after what has been such a tragic and emotional month for the actress and her family.

Kim thanked the public for their help and support, “We want to thank you all on social media for your outpouring of love and support in this trying time.”

A spokesperson for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police stated that Christopher’s death was not being treated as suspicious.

We are keeping Kim and her family in our thoughts during this heart-breaking time.

Sex and the City star Kim Cattrall has taken to social media to raise awareness about her missing brother.

The actress has appealed to the public to help her in the search for her brother who has been missing since January 30.

Alongside a photo of her brother Chris, the actress wrote, “MISSING! This is my brother Christopher Cattrall or Chris as we call him. He has been missing since Tuesday, January the 30th from his home in Lacombe, Alberta Canada.”

Kim explained that this extremely unlike her brother, she knows that this behaviour isn’t normal for the 55-year-old, “His keys, cell phone,& wallet left on the table and his front door unlocked. This is not like Chris. He would never leave his unlocked home without those items nor his 7 beloved dogs.”

Kim’s brother is 55-years-old, 6 feet tall, 200 pounds, with blue eyes, short brown hair, goatee, and of average build. She shared that he often wears a waist length hooded winter coat with black gloves, blue jeans and calf-high black winter boots.

Let’s hope Christopher is found safe and sound!

Earlier this week, Kim Cattrall caused waves when she made her feelings for former co-star, Sarah Jessica Parker, known during an interview with Piers Morgan.

Commenting on reports she had delayed the production of Sex and the City 3, the 61-year-old actress insisted that she had been portrayed badly by those involved.

"It’s quite extraordinary to get any kind of negative press about something that I’ve been saying for almost a year of ‘no’ that I’m demanding or a diva," she told Piers.

Turning her attention to those involved in the discussions, Kim continued: "And this is really where I take to task the people from Sex And The City and specifically Sarah Jessica Parker in that I think she could have been nicer. I really think she could have been nicer."

Kim went on to label her relationship with her former colleagues as 'toxic' – something Willie Garson, who played Stanford Blatch, has taken grave exception to.

Taking to Twitter to reference Kim's interview, Willie wrote: "Dear fans, because I'm "toxic", I'm going to negotiate a contract for 6 months, not come to terms, then say I never wanted to do it anyway."

Responding to fans' suggestion that the movie should be created without the character of Samantha, Willie responded in the negative, writing: "All or none, as it should be."

"Nope, all or none, ALL are integral and have always been treated as such," he added when pressed on the issue in the Twitter thread.

However, not everyone supports Willie's swipe at his former co-star, with one fan suggesting that the tweet was indicative of a toxic relationship.

"No, toxic would be trying to shame someone on social media into doing something she clearly doesn't want to do. SATC is dead and buried!" wrote one.

This thing doesn't look like it's going to settle down any time soon.

Last month when American talk-show host Wendy Williams addressed the rumours that Kim Cattrall is getting a spin-off series about Samantha Jones, Kim herself added fuel to the fire by tweeting "Fingers x's."

The actress then later responded to a video posted on Twitter and said, "Can't WAIT 2 get back 2 the serious business of making u all laugh (sic)!"

Of course, the whole Sex and the City world went berserk at the idea of a spin-off show, but nothing more was said about it… until now.

Kim took to Instagram last night to share her first ever Boomerang and captioned it, "My 1st Boomerang, Honey! Channelling Ms Samantha Jones once again…."

Her make-up artist then shared a similar picture on IG, telling his fans that he's working on a "secret project" with Kim.

Could this be it? Are we finally going to get a show dedicated to Samantha Jones?!

We think it's time to plan a viewing party, ladies.

When you look back on Sex and the City, a lot of questions need to be asked.

For example, how did Carrie afford that NYC apartment with only a weekly/monthly sex column? How did she afford all of those shoes as well?! And how on earth did Kim Cattrall not get her own show?!

After all was said and done with SATC, Kim's character Samantha totally came out on top. Compared to Carrie, Samantha was ahead of her career game, didn't take sh*t from anybody (including guys) and was just an all-round badass.

yes sex and the city agreed yeah agree

So, you can only imagine how excited we were to hear that Kim is in talks to have a SATC spin-off.

Throughout the years there has been numerous rumours of another series, and indeed another movie, but they went away as fast as they came.

However, this time around, Kim gave a little hint on Twitter that this spin-off might actually happen.

After US talk show host, Wendy Williams posted a video on Twitter stating that "reportedly Kim Cattrall is in talks with HBO to reprise her role as Samantha Jones," Kim saw and simply tweeted, "Finger's x'd."

2018 will mark the 20th anniversary of the show, so hopefully this will all work out. Our fingers are definitely crossed.

It's been almost twenty years since Sex and the City burst onto our screens back in 1998, and while the show has been lauded for depicting women, sex and relationships in their most authentic form, a shadow has hung over the smash-hit HBO show for the best part of two decades.

And it sounds like Sarah Jessica Parker is officially done with it.

Addressing long-running reports that she and Kim Cattrall endured an incredibly strained relationship during their six years on set together, SJP is determined to put the rumours to bed.

While appearing on the Howard Stern Show earlier this week, the 51-year-old actress let rip at the blatant gender stereotyping which fuelled the rumours.

"It used to really confound me and really upset me," she said. "We were part of a family of sopranos and no-one was questioning the relationships of the men on the show [or asking], did you hang out with each other at the weekend? Did you give each other Christmas presents?"

Refusing to sugarcoat the dynamic which existed between the cast and crew, Sarah offered a genuine insight into what went on behind the scenes, saying: "These were my sisters. These were people that I grew to love and admire."
"And was every day perfect? Were people always desperately, hopelessly in love with each other? No, but this is a family of people who needed each other, relied on each other, and loved each other."

"And this sort of narrative, this ongoing cat fight, it really used to upset me for a very long time," she admitted.

Reflecting on the impact the rumours had on her professionally, Sarah said: "I take very seriously my reputation."

"I work very hard and I treat people well and I have a work ethic that is very meaningful to me and it’s based on the affection I feel for the people I get to work with."

"To suggest that I’m behaving poorly or not treating someone well? It’s not even like it’s not me," she insisted. "It’s so anathema that it would drive me bananas."

OK Sarah, we've got it now.

They may have been soul sisters on Sex and the City, but as far as the public is concerned Sarah Jessica Parker and Kim Cattrall's friendship was reserved solely for the set of the HBO show.

Rumours have been swirling for years that the two actresses failed to see eye to eye while filming the groundbreaking television series and its two subsequent films, but it looks like everyone fell victim to the rumour mill.

In a move which confirmed that SJP has nothing but love for her co-star, the actress shared a photo of Kim before writing a heartfelt tribute to the actress on her 60th birthday.

"Happy birthday you beauty @kimcattrall," she wrote alongside a throwback snap yesterday.

"Sending love and the very best for a perfectly marvelous, joyous, healthy and adventure filled birthday year," she added.

Finishing the post which has clocked up almost 80,000 likes, Sarah signed off: "Your ol' pal, fellow mischief maker and "sister", Sj"

"This gave me feels," wrote one Instagram user while another added: "That's so sweet. I miss you 4 guys being together."

Sex and the City 3, anyone?
