Tributes are pouring in after best selling author, and proud mum, Emma Hannigan sadly lost her battle with cancer on Saturday.

The 45-year-old mother-of-two discovered she carried the BRCA1 'breast cancer' gene in 2005, and decided to have her breasts and ovaries removed as a precautionary measure.

However, despite her efforts to stop the disease, Emma was diagnosed with cancer in 2007 and had since fought the illness 10 times.

The mother of two teenagers passed away peacefully surrounded by her husband Cian, son Sacha, daughter Kim and her parents.

Earlier today, Cian posted a heartbreaking tribute to his late wife. The pair had been married for two decades and had two children together.

He wrote: “Today, my Emma found peace. She bravely fought a battle against a foe with no mercy.

"Emma was the epitome of strength, love and generosity, beyond anything I have ever known.

“She loved her family, loved her friends, and she left a trail of glitter and joy throughout her life… with of course added tinsel at Christmas.

“She was my wife and soul mate. Mother of my beautiful children, A friend to many and an inspiration to thousands. A loving daughter. Devoted mother

“Best selling Author. Fundraiser. Public speaker. Chef. And Shopaholic ……”

He added: “She was my guiding star and my hug to say everything would be ok. But mostly she was just my Emma, and I would need her wonderful gift with words to tell you just how much I will miss her.”

So, it’s a well-known fact that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and yet many of us still struggle to incorporate it into our daily routines.

Emerging from a warm, cosy bed can be a struggle at the best of times and with a long morning to-do list in front of us, breakfast is normally the first thing to get dropped when we’re running late.

But when exactly should we eat our first meal of the day?

Well, health professional, Dr. Oz, has finally given us the answer.

Speaking to Pop Sugar, the expert recommended eating breakfast within one hour of waking up.

What’s more is you should be eating lunch no later than four and a half hours after, and dinner should be at least three hours before bedtime to avoid a belly full of food and indigestion.

Dr. Oz explained that adopting this routine will make you much less likely to cheat on high-calorie junk food throughout the day.

But if you do want to sneak a little treat, the best time to do so is before 10 am.

Chocolate for breakfast anyone? Science says it's totally okay.

From fancy makeup brushes and affordable lip kits to gorgeous nude eyeshadow and nifty nail polish, it's easy to see why everyone is raving about the ever-growing collection.

And as if we didn't already love it enough, beauty buffs are no comparing the brand's 'My Perfect Colour' longwear ultimate matte foundation to the holy grail of high-end cosmetics, Estée Lauder's Double Wear.

Both products promise perfect coverage that stays in place all day long – but seeing as a 30ml bottle of Double Wear retails for around €36.00, Penneys' €6.00 alternative is definitely worth a try.

But don't just take our word for it – here's what people are saying online.

One night stands can be tricky business.

On the one hand, you might have some amazing no-strings-attached sex, and on the other, you might wake up with a sore head and lingering sense of regret.

While there are many factors that come into play, it looks like women are more likely to enjoy a one night stand when they make the first move  – oh, and if the the person they've slept with is good in bed (obviously).

A study of 800 people showed that feeling pressured is one of the main reasons women live to regret casual sex more than men.

Lead author Dr Leif Edward Ottesen Kennair, from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, said women’s attitudes towards no-strings sex may be down to humans’ evolutionary past.

He said: "Women in the past had a lot more to lose from having sex with a non-committed partner, as if they got pregnant the man could walk away at no cost to anything but his reputation while she would be left to bring up the child."

"We know today that women are more worried than men about pregnancy, sexually transmitted infections and their reputation."

The study also found that (surprise, surprise), women regret one night stands because they are far less likely to climax – which, to be honest, makes a lot of sense.

Best selling author, and proud mum, Emma Hannigan sadly passed away earlier today.

Late last month, beloved Irish author Emma Hannigan shared news of her terminal diagnosis after an 11-year-long battle with cancer.

The 45-year-old mother-of-two discovered she carried the BRCA1 'breast cancer' gene in 2005, and decided to have her breasts and ovaries removed as a precautionary measure.

However, despite her efforts to stop the disease, Emma was diagnosed with cancer in 2007 and has since fought the illness 10 times.

In an emotional post online, the author wrote: “The time I knew was borrowed must be given back soon, so it seems.”

"The conversation I never wanted to have has been said. My medical team have thrown everything but the kitchen sink at this fight but all avenues have now been exhausted."

Since sharing the news, book-lovers and fellow writers have come together to push Emma's new book Letters to my Daughter, to the number one spot.

Letters to my Daughter explores the complicated bonds between daughters, mothers and sisters, telling the story of the three Brady sisters who, having always been close to their grandmother May, struggle to cope with her sudden death.

Speaking about her latest release Emma said: “These characters were as real to me as all the others. They grew on me and some annoyed me at times, but as always, they were mine.”

The beautiful Emma is survived by her two children, and her loving husband.

Our thoughts are with them at this terrible time.

The purrfect job doesn't exi… wait never mind.

The requirements for the job are as follows:

  • Does cattitude come naturally to you?
  • Have you counted kittens before you go asleep?
  • Do you feed the stray cats in your locality?
  • Does petting cats make you feel warm and fuzzy?

The website reads: "Based in Clonsilla, Dublin 15, we are Dublin's only veterinary clinic for just cats. We are looking for someone to work with our feline friendly staff in a 'no dogs' veterinary clinic.

"We are an equal opportunities employer, however we do discriminate against dogs attending our veterinary clinic as patients.

"The ideal candidate must have gentle hands capable of petting and stroking cats for long periods of time. They need to be softly spoken and capable of cat whispering to calm the nerves of some of our inpatients.

"An ability to understand different types of purring is a distinct added advantage in helping you secure this position with us."

We can't believe this is real life.

Prices start at €30, which seems fairly reasonable, in our opinion.

We SO need to try these products.

Is there anything worse than lying in bed, wide awake, watching the clock edge closer and closer towards your alarm clock?

No, nothing.

The internal panic you feel when you realise you won't be getting any sleep is like nothing else, especially if you have work the next day.

Thankfully, scientists have found a solution to this issue.

Pink noise is basically a type of background noise that has an equal level of energy per octave, meaning it has a lower frequency than white noise – and it might just be the answer to those sleepless nights.

According to a study in Frontiers in Human Neuroscience pink noise is less intrusive than white noise and could lead to a better, deeper sleep.

They even suggest that if used regularly, pink noise could improve your memory too. Sold.

The study tested people listening to pink noise as they slept, and found that those participants reported feeling a lot more rested.

The pink noise participants also performed three times better in memory tests and cognition tests compared to those who just slept normally.

I mean, science has spoken, so it's worth a go!

Recently, two Mumbai-based scientists discovered a new species of spider, and it looks EXACTLY like the bloody Sorting Hat.

The spider has been named Eriovixia Gryffindori after one of the Hogwarts founders, Godric Gryffindor (naturally).

“When we first saw the spider, our collective thoughts were, ‘It looks just like the Sorting Hat, from the films!’ Being on the same wavelength, we decided to name the spider, after Godric Gryffindor,” one of the scientists said to BuzzFeed.

Even the amazing JK Rowling was chuffed with new discovery, and even sent out a tweet:

The spider even made its way to Queen J.K. Rowling, who seemed mighty pleased with the little buggo.

Well now, there you have it.

Groundbreaking stuff.
