Yearly Archives: 2017

Ok, so we all love our day jobs but there might be a tiny chance that we would rather be a taste tester somewhere amazing like, say, Oreo, Milka or Cadburys.

It would legit be like living in Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory, but actually real.

A listing on the Mondelez International LinkedIn, the parent company who takes care of all the delicious aforementioned brands, was calling for a chocolate and cocoa beverage taster.

A post shared by Cadbury UK (@cadburyuk) on

Unfortunately, the listing has since expired, presumably because some lucky thing is currently devouring all the chocolate we could ever need or want, but here's the criteria anyway, just in case another opportunity arises.

Candidates must have "a passion for confectionery and taste buds for detection." Like, no problem our taste buds are well equip.

They must also be able to answer honestly when giving an opinion and be eager to try new products. Eh, have you seen us when a new item of confectionery is released?

It is also a requirement to be able to build great relationships with your team, and a firm grasp of English is appreciated.

File this one under "dream job."

When model Kate Upton nabbed her first Sports Illustrated cover, the then 19-year-old found her success tainted by cruel discussion critiquing her weight.

Reflecting on this time in her life, Kate, now 24, admits that the criticism ultimately help build her confidence in an industry known for its body-shaming.

Speaking during a Facebook Live discussion, Kate admitted that the initial fall-out from her debut cover was far from easy.

“I got my first cover when I was 19 After my first cover, critics were discussing whether I was fat or not," she explains. "I had this huge moment in my career and they were tearing it apart."

"I have to thank the people who did that because it really made me sit back and find out who I was and what meant something to me, and how I thought about my body."

Kate admits the criticism forced her to address issues which she hadn't considered a priority before the debut cover back in 2012.

"At 19, I wasn’t thinking about that. I sat there answering all these questions I had about my body because I really didn’t know.”

Thankfully, Kate now realises that her criticism had little grounding in reality.

"They lashed out on me because they felt insecure about themselves. I realise that the confidence that I had in my body was actually meant to inspire women to love themselves for all their different flaws."

And if that wasn't enough, the model uses her critics as a measure of her success laughing: “If you don’t have haters, then you’re probably not successful."

If we didn't already adore her…

So we all know that listening to Donald Trump's ramblings can be tough at the best of times.

Luckily, one entrepreneurial Facebook user has come up with a way to make the POTUS's speeches a little more bearable.

Joe Rivera, from New York, slowed down one of Trump's most recent conferences, and it literally sounds like the scattered thoughts of an auld lad who has been propped up at the bar sinking pints all evening.

"Trump's press conference is easier to take if you slow it down a bit," he said.

"Then it's like watching an old drunk ranting at you in a bar at 3:00am—the only circumstance where any of this would seem normal."

"You're welcome," he finished.

Many thanks Joe, many thanks.

Being called a basic bitch is one of the worst insults of all time right now, but we all have to admit that we have a hint of basic within.

Anyone who says they hate the Kardashians, leggings, Starbucks, UGGs, reality TV, Lauren Conrad, Nicholas Sparks, and calling everybody "hun" is lying.

To pay homage to the basic bitch in all of us, MAC is launching a Basic Bitch Palette, and we like, can't cope right now.

Senior MAC Artist Netta Szekely showcased this bad boy over on her Instagram account, and we're already excited by the gorgeous shades.

A post shared by Netta Szekely (@nettart) on

The palette is designed to bring our makeup looks back to basics, with a selection of carefully chosen colours ranging from rich-toned to muted.

The nine shades were used backstage at Milan Fashion Week, and the brand new shadows looked amazing on the runway.

A post shared by Netta Szekely (@nettart) on

Unfortunatly, the palette isn't being released in the UK, so it's likely that Ireland may not get a look in either when it comes to flogging this perfectly toned shadow set.

However, we're sure that you can get your hands on one through a site that ships internationally.

After all, waiting on an online shopping parcel is one of the most basic bitch inconveniences going.

We are all well-versed in the eternal argument as to whether a Jaffa Cake is a cake or a biscuit, but now it is the humble Twix's time to shine.

Pointless host Richard Osman kicked off the drama on Twitter when he asked his followers what they thought a Twix should be classified as.

"I honestly don't think a Twix is really a chocolate bar. It should be reclassified as a biscuit," he said.

Obviously, such a divisive issue caused a wave of responses, as people battled it out in the comments section to share their opinion.

Some agreed with the quiz show host, saying that the biscuit to chocolate ratio involved in a Twix should define it as a biscuit.

This brought up the issue of other confectionery items currently classified as bars, such as Kit Kats and Penguin bars, and whether or not they should also be biscuits.

Others felt that the debaters should leave well enough alone and continue to refer to a Twix as a bar, as is traditional.

Others felt that a Twix is a hybrid of the two confectionery types, and straddles both categories.

Some just see it as "a fancy tea straw."

We don't really mind what we call it seeing as it tastes so good, but what do you think?

There was online uproar recently when a Fenty Beauty Cosmetics page sprung up on Instagram with no apparent explanation, and people assumed, hoped and prayed that the conception of the page meant that Rihanna's makeup line was coming soon.

Unfortunately, there is no evidence that the page is anything more than a fan page.

We'll give you a moment to let the imminent disappointment set in.

The page has since been removed, but other similar copy-cat pages have sprung up.

While the Fenty Beauty Cosmetics page may not be legit (despite facading as such), there is some exciting news on the horizon for Riri beauty fans.

Rihanna did confirm in September 2016 that a makeup and beauty line was in the works, but the Fenty Beauty Cosmetics page, or pages similar, are not affiliated with Riri.

While that particular page was a hoax, the makeup brand is actually en route.

Fashion and beauty mega-corp LVMH confirmed that they had struck a deal with Queen R, and that Fenty Beauty by Rihanna could be a real prospect by autumn 2017, according to WWD.

A post shared by James Vincent (@jvincentmakeup) on

Now, the future brand is searching for makeup artists to work with Rihanna as spokespeople for Fenty Beauty by Rihanna.

In an Instagram post, esteemed beauty professional James Vincent asked that makeup artists come to a casting for the brand.

The casting call is a method of "formal recruitment for Fenty Beauty's Global Makeup Artists and Artistry support team."

So, if you are an uber-talented MUA with a portfolio to die for who has been thinking about heading Stateside, and you have the cash for a last minute plane ticket, what's stopping you?

Over the course of the past two years, 20 cyclists have lost their lives on Irish roads.

Owing to this, Fine Gael have sought to introduce a new law which will fine motorists €80, in addition to receiving three penalty points, if they are caught encroaching on a cyclist's road space.

Should the case make its way to court and result in a conviction, the motorist at the centre of the incident will face fines of up to €1,500 and five penalty points.

The Road Traffic (Minimum Passing Distance of Cyclists) Bill 2017 means that a minimum passing distance will be set at 1.5 metres on roads with speed limits of more than 50 kmh, while roads with lower speed limits would require a distance of one metre.

Fine Gael TDs, Ciaran Cannon, and Government chief whip. Regina Doherty, are seeking the support of Transport Minister Shane Ross and the transport spokespersons of other political parties in a bid to see the passing of the law by the Dáil's summer recess.

As it stands, similar laws have been passed in a number of European countries including France, Belgium, Portugal.

The Bill will be published later today.

Marnie Simpson has lashed out at ex-boyfriend Lewis Bloor after it was revealed that he cheated on her on Valentine's Day.

Taking to Snapchat last night, Marnie branded the TV personality a "scumbag" in a series of videos.

"I don't normally do videos but I feel like I want to get my point across about what the hell has just happened," began the star, in the first video of many in a seven-minute rant.

"I've literally just spend the last seven months of my life with an absolute phoney, lying cheating scumbag."

Marnie went on to thank the female, albeit sarcastically, who Lewis cheated with, for saving her from staying with her cheating boyfriend and opening her eyes to his "true ways."

"Thank you for being a massive s*** and jumping into bed with my boyfriend."

A post shared by Marnie. (@marniegshore) on

The woman with whom he cheated has come forward to share her story about the infidelity encounter.

Amelia Guest spotted the reality TV star hailing a taxi, and in a star-struck moment, jokingly asked if he wanted to come to London with her and her friend.

Lewis was reportedly "begging to snog" Amelia, and in a video obtained by The Sun, the two can be seen kissing and canoodling under the covers of hotel bed.

A post shared by Marnie. (@marniegshore) on

In her Snapchat rant, Marnie also revealed that she remained faithful to Lewis in the upcoming series of Geordie Shore, despite living with her ex Aaron Chalmers, with whom she was "quite serious."

The new 12-episode series is set to air sometime in April, so if anyone was hoping for a rekindling between Aaron and Marnie, according to the Geordie star you are set for disappointment.

If you've ever been on the receiving end of unsolicited photos of male genitalia, you've probably questioned what in the name of God compelled the person on the other end of the phone to do it.

Well, according to a sex and relationship expert, the inclination stems from one of two things; the desire to procreate and the desire to shock.

With a recent study revealing that 47 per cent of men have sent an unrequested pic of their bits, Dr Justin Lehmiller weighed in on the practice and provided the public with two theories for this behaviour.

The first theory focuses on men's desire to procreate, and highlights some men's inability to differentiate between friendliness and flirting.

The theory suggests that when a man overestimates a woman's interest in him, his subconscious considers procreation and this ultimately helps him to rationalise exposing himself.

"Although this strategy means men are necessarily going to fail a high percentage of the time, it requires a relatively low investment on their part while ensuring that they don’t miss out on anyone who might be interested," writes Dr Lehmiller.

Dr Lehmiller stresses that while this behaviour can be explained on some levels, it doesn't justify the practice.

"Let me be perfectly clear about one thing: even if we think of this behaviour as being adaptive in an evolutionary sense, this isn’t to say that it’s OK or excusable for men to send women photos that they don’t want to see."

The second theory is (perhaps unsurprisingly) based on the concept of exhibitionism.

According to Dr Lehmiller, some men hope their snaps will lead to sex while others simply get a kick out of eliciting a shocked response from recipients.

"Although most people think of exhibitionism in terms of guys who flash strangers on the subway or in a park, a similar kind of behaviour can also occur online or over the phone," he writes.

"This behaviour is linked to having poor social and interpersonal skill – as such, some psychologists believe that exhibitionistic tendencies develop following the inability to establish relationships in a more conventional way," he adds.

And now we know.

"We can confirm that a voluntary recall of The Happy Pear Lovely Basil Pesto has been initiated because a very small number of tubs have been incorrectly labelled," reads a statement on The Happy Pear website.

The product has been withdrawn from sale because it contains a trace amount of egg and may be a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to egg."

There is nothing better than a good Twitter meme, and the joke about about Arthur's fist has been running for months now.

For those who don't know, the Arthur's fist meme is a snap of cartoon character Arthur's clenched fist, which has been used on Twitter and Instagram to portray a myriad of emotions and situations.

The meme has become an online sensation, suitable for expressing any kind of irritating scenario.

From the popularity of his clenched fist, more Arthur memes sprung up, and now one Twitter user is likening the meme character to one very famous singer.

The avid tweeter posted a side-by-side image of Arthur and John Legend, calling out a resemblance between the two.

The tweet blew up, and now has  over 77,000 retweets and 230,000 shares.

Thousands of people constructed memes of their own in an attempt to prove how alike John is to the cartoon.

Chrissy Teigen decided to respond to the viral trend in the best possible way, by taking the mick out of her husband herself.

The mum-of-one shared a snap of Arthur's fist with the caption "John when you tell him he looks like Arthur," and the Twitterverse went insane for the response.

Well, if you cant laugh at your husband, who can you laugh at?

Ed Sheeran popped into BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge recently for an acoustic session, which has gone completely viral overnight.

The star covered Little Mix's latest hit Touch, but gave the peppy pop song a major Ed makeover.

Slowing down the tempo and adding some gentle harmonies made the song almost unrecognisable, and people are loving it.

The Little Mix girls completely approved, tweeting to the chart-topping singer that he had "smashed it."

Although Ed Sheeran could probably cover just about anything and make it sound top notch.
