In what is thought to be the first case in the world, a baby has been born as gender neutral in Canada.

The baby, Searyl Atli Doty, has been issued a health card with the letter 'U' in the gender box for 'unknown'.

This comes as Searyl's parents fight to allow their child to pick its own gender identity in years to come.

The baby's parents are going to court after the Vital Statistics Agency of British Columbia refused to issue a birth certificate for the child.

“We’re not actually asking to have anyone’s ID changed against their will. We’re just asking to change the structure of how identification, particularly the birth certificate, starts out,” Searyl's parent Kori said.

Kori said that the family's goal is for the child to discover its own identity, and even when people ask if the child is a boy or girl, Kori has a swift retort.

“Often I’ll just say I don’t know yet, or I’m not rushing to apply those types of labels on this kid. Right now they’re just a baby.”

The parents explained that it was a massive turning point when Searyl's health card came in the post, marked with 'U'.

“For us, it’s a huge step forward,” they said.

The Keepers is one of the best shows on Netflix.

The Keepers tells the story of the unsolved murder of Sister Cathy Cesnik, a nun and teacher from Baltimore, USA.

The docu-series explores the theory that Sister Cathy was murdered because she uncovered the sexual abuse being committed against students at the then-Archbishop Keough High School by Arch Bishop Joseph Maskell.

Now, the docu-series has led to a petition being created which calls for the Baltimore Archdiocese to release files on Father Joseph Maskell.

'The Archdiocese of Baltimore holds documents regarding sexual abuse claims against A. Joseph Maskell,' reads the petition.

'The release of these documents will restore public trust in the Archdiocese, and confirm the Archdiocese statements regarding their handling of the sexual abuse claims.'

'This petition requests that the Archdiocese of Baltimore release their files regarding A. Joseph Maskell, who is now deceased, in an effort to thoroughly investigate all avenues that may have led to the murder of Cathy Cesnik in 1969.'

The Change.org petition has acquired 14,869 of the required 15,000 signatures.

The team responsible for organising Bravalla festival in Sweden have announced that next year's festival has been cancelled amid multiple claims of sexual assault at this year's festival.

The annual music festival, which takes place in Norrkoping, is at the centre of a police investigation after authorities received notification of one rape and 11 sexual assaults between June 28 and July 1.

Releasing a statement in the aftermath of this year's festival, which saw The Chainsmokers, The Killers and Linkin Park headline, organisers acknowledged the extent of the issue.

"We have seen sexual assault at our and other festivals in recent years, and it is a huge social problem that affects every part of our society," read the statement.

"We are working actively to eradicate the darkness. But some men – because we are talking about men – apparently can’t behave. It’s a shame," they continued.

Acknowledging the claims, Prime Minister Stefan Lofven expressed concern for female music fans, saying: "These are disgusting acts. We must stop this."

The Bravalla festival hosted 45,000 music fans last week.

In a moving interview with People, E! News anchor, Maria Menounos, revealed that she recently underwent brain surgery after an MRI scan revealed she had a brain tumour.

The TV presenter was in the process of caring for her mother, who has stage 4 brain cancer, in February when she began experiencing symptoms which caused her grave concern.

"I’d been getting lightheaded on set and having headaches," she explained. "My speech had gotten slurred and I was having difficulty reading the teleprompter.”

Acutely aware of her mother's diagnosis, 39-year-old Maria communicated her concerns to a physician who immediately acted on them, and sent the anchor for an MRI scan.

Tragically, Maria learned she had a brain tumour – a discovery which she said she struggled to comprehend.

"I didn’t cry. I actually laughed,” she recalled. “It’s so surreal and crazy and unbelievable that my mom has a brain tumour – and now I have one too?”

On June 8, Maria underwent a seven-hour surgery which allowed her surgeon to remove 99.9 per cent of the tumour.

Maria explained that while she's not entirely out of the woods, she's incredibly optimistic about her future.

Referring to her consultant's prognosis, Maria explained: "He said there’s a six to seven percent chance that we’ll see it come back. But I’ll take those odds any day.”

Happy Wednesday ! #bangs #noovie

A post shared by maria menounos (@mariamenounos) on

Deciding to stand down from her position on the popular entertainment channel, Maria is now focussing on her recovery.

"My face is still numb. This is something that takes at least a month of healing, but I’m getting stronger and stronger every day and I’ll be back to normal very soon.”

Encouraging the public to take responsibility for their health and welfare, she said: "I tell people all the time if your car is making a weird noise, you take it to the mechanic. How come when our body is making weird noises, we ignore it?"

When you travel to places like New York or Dubai, you realise how small (and short) Dublin City is.

And even though the city has changed drastically over the years, there's still no building taller than 70 metres.

Celtic Tiger developer Johnny Ronan tried to change that by proposing to build Dublin's tallest skyscraper on the South Quays, however, his bid has been rejected.

The Irish businessman wanted to build a 22-storey hotel and office block just off Tara Street, but there were many people against the plans.

And it looks like Dublin City Council has listened to the opponents, as they believe the hotel would have an ill-effect on the character of the area.

The Council claim that the 88-metre building would have a "significant and detrimental visual impact" on the city.

Dublin City Council said in a statement: "The proposal would be reason of visual intrusion, have a significant and detrimental visual impact on a number of important views and vistas in the city including from College Green and the Trinity College Campus."

They also noted that the "scale, bulk and height" would take away from “one of the city’s most important architectural set pieces,” The Custom House.

Johnny has one month to appeal the decision, but we honestly can't see it going anywhere at the moment.

It seems like we could be looking up at new street signs pretty soon.

Well, kinda.

According to The Sunday Times, Dublin City Councillors are talking about reverting the capital's street signs back to the traditional green versions.

So, they won't be necessarily new, but instead a fresh version of the old signage.

The newspaper claims that numerous councillors have called to replace Dublin's signs, as the modern blue version is "too bland."

Apparently, the font of the blue sign was created for Britain's motorway network back in the 1960s, and now councillors are calling out for something more bespoke.

Green Party Cllr, Ciaran Cuffe, said, "This is an opportunity to look at something more uniquely Irish. It's to do with the identity of the city and the streets."

We're all for going back to the traditional green.

The first time a prospective partner drops by your home is a big moment at the start of any relationship.

Most of us would put a little effort into making the place look presentable, but if we didn't have the time, we'd simply ask a roommate to do us a solid and give the place a once-over for us.

However, there is one lad out there who is definitely regretting going with the second option after his roommate decided to erect a shrine to Princess Diana in his bedroom.

Taking to Twitter to share his prank with the world, Twitter user, Deep Web Italian, revealed the effort he went to in order to mortify his mate.

Sharing a photo of the shrine, he wrote: "Roommate has date coming by later and asked me to clean bc he's not home. So I made a Princess D shrine in his room."

And if the likes and retweets are anything to go by, Twitter has clearly found itself a new king.

"This will be the 1st story in your best man's toast at their wedding," wrote one person while another added: "I am absolute howling at this."

"I think that wins the interweb now and forever. Dark and beautiful," wrote yet another fan of this lad's work.

Take a bow, Deep Web Italian.
