For most of us, hopping aboard the fitness wagon is tough enough, while remaining on board seems almost impossible at times.

But once we establish a regular exercise routine which suits our needs and goals, the vast majority of us wonder how we ever survived without multiple sweat-sessions a week.

Considering how difficult it to get started, it's no real surprise that the vast majority of us fear gaps in our routine – created by holidays, work responsibilities or injury –  and often question whether our hard work will go to nought if we can't stick to our regime.

And unfortunately, the answer to that question is yes… for a time, at least.

According to a recent study, it takes a lousy two weeks for our bodies to lose muscle mass if we don't train regularly, and 14 days without exercise can also increase the risk of heart disease and diabetes too.

Researchers at the University of Liverpool enlisted the help of 28 individuals aged 25 – none of whom were fitness fanatics, but who walked at least 10,000 steps a day, were defined as 'moderate to vigorous activity', and boasted a 'healthy BMI'.

By reducing their physical activity by 80 per cent or more (dropping from around 2 hours 41 minutes a day to only 36 minutes), the participants – after two weeks – gained fat, specifically around the stomach area, lost muscle, saw an increase in cholesterol levels and couldn't run as fast.

But thankfully, before you go cancelling your fortnight abroad, this can be reversed pretty quickly.

"The effects were entirely reversible – so it’s fine if you’re fit and well and you go on holiday for two weeks and then you get right back to normal," assured the study's co-author Dan Cuthebertson.

"But the problem is that many people don’t reverse back to these levels of activity, and then perhaps the effects will accumulate. The longer people are inactive, the harder it is to get back into shape," he asserted.

So, while the results sound pretty disheartening, reversing them is totally within your power!

If you were one of the millions who bunkered down with popcorn for Jordan Peele's Get Out earlier this year, then it's highly likely that as the movie drew to a close, you feared the film's lead actor would be banged up for a series of brutal murders, right?

As Chris, played by Daniel Kaluuya, endured a final showdown with his girlfriend, Rose, on the grounds of her family's sprawling New York state home, a police car arrives leaving the viewer in little doubt that Chris would have a hell of a time explaining the gruesome scenes which would meet them upon entering the Armitage home.

Thankfully, the person driving the police car was Rod, Chris' friend, who after realising Chris was missing went into full damage control in order to protect, and ultimately save, the New York-based photographer.

However, according to recent reports, this final scene was not at all how the director intended the story to end.

During a recent interview on Talking With Chris Hardwick, Jordan admitted that the original ending did not go down well with initial audiences, laughing: "People wanted something different."

So, what had Jordan presented them with at the time?

It turns out the movie's original ending, which has now been posted on Slate and The A.V Club, saw two white policemen step out of the squad car which arrived on the Armitage property.

After immediately arresting Chris, they jail him, and Rod is left doing all in his power to help Chris's case, but due to the horror endured by Chris in the Armitage family home, he is unable to remember key details which would ultimately save him from a life behind bars.

The movie ends with Chris and Rod reluctantly acknowledging Chris's fate before the latter hangs up the phone on his friend and is led back behind bars, destined to spend his life in prison after being wrongfully accused of multiple murder.

Sooo…. who's glad Jordan reworked that one?!

Another day, another scam, right?

With the world still reeling from the effects of the WannaCry malware virus last week, experts are now reaching out to WhatsApp users to ensure they don't fall victim to a similar virus.

According to numerous reports, a message is currently making its way through the WhatsApp world inviting users to change the colour theme of their messaging app.

Clicking on the link contained within the message will bring you a site which reads: "New colours for WhatsApp, now you can change your WhatsApp and leave it your favourite colours" before advising that it's available for 'iOS, Windows, Apple, and Blackberry'.

Following this, the site visitor is asked to share the link with 12 of their friends as a means of 'verification' only to be then informed that the feature is solely available through desktop.

This means that in order to avail of it, the user needs to install an extension called 'BlackWhats' from the Chrome Web Store.

And if you do install it?

Hey presto, you have given yourself and your 12 chosen friends a nasty dose of malware all in order to switch up your WhatsApp colours.

Let's all stick with green, shall we?

If you and your partner are hoping to start a family, there's a pretty high chance you have already researched the various external factors in both your lives which may impede progress on the baby front, right?

But did you know that the time in which your partner's head hits the pillow can actually play a part in the likelihood of you conceiving?

According to a recent study conducted in China's Harbin Medical University, men who decide to call it a day before midnight have a better chance of conceiving than their counterparts who are only winding down at 1 or 2 in the morning after a fairly heavy boxset binge.

With the participation of 981 healthy men, researchers investigated the theory that there exists a link between sleep patterns and sperm mobility.

Dividing the men into three groups, researchers instructed the first to go to bed between 8pm and 10pm, the second between 10pm and midnight, and the third after midnight.

In addition to this, they were instructed to set their alarms to ensure a nine-hour sleep, a seven-to-eight hour sleep, or a six-hour sleep, and findings indicated that those who went to bed after midnight or slept for just six hours had lower sperm counts.

After analysing sperm count, shape and motility, researchers established that shorter sleep cycles affected sperm count as they increase levels of antisperm antibody which is a type of protein produced by the immune system known for destroying healthy sperm.

The findings were published in the Medical Science Monitor.

It's been six years since the world watched Pippa Middleton's older sister make her way up the aisle at Westminister Abbey to marry Prince William.

And while Pippa made an impact all of her own the day she acted as bridesmaid to Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, the 33-year-old will take centre stage as the bride at her own wedding to James Matthews later today.

Much has been made about Pippa's big day; from the guest list to her bridal party, but like anything to do with the royal family and the plethora of high-profile names contained within its inner circle, not everyone is enthused by the constant coverage.

And as a result, Twitter is, unsurprisingly, lit this morning, with some members of the public only dying to share in the excitement and others… well… not so much.

Remember those all-nighters, last minute cramming sessions and caffeine-induced panic sweats. Yeah, exam season can be a stressful time.

As students, we would have tried any quick-fix that promised better results, and so we're only raging this little trick wasn't making headlines a few years back.

Students, we give you – rosemary.

Holland & Barrett have reported a huge surge in sales of rosemary after a study carried out by Northumbria University revealed that exposure to the herd could boost memory.

According to The Independent, demand has been so high that stores have had to order in extra supplies.

As part of the study, students were put in a room that contained the aroma of rosemary in the form of an essential oil. Researchers the discovered that those student preformed between five and seven per cent better in memory tests.

Researcher, Mark Moss, said, “It could be that aromas affect electrical activity in the brain or that pharmacologically active compounds can be absorbed.”

This isn't the first time a link has been made.

In fact students in ancient Greece used to wear rosemary garlands during their exams.

A new campaign fronted by the young women of the University of Bristol is aiming to open a discussion and raise awareness around the topic of sexual assault and harassment.

Some female students have taken to Snapchat to share their personal experiences in a bid to showcase just how common the problem actually is.

The clips combine to make a Snapchat story that manages to be simultaneously utterly distressing and yet highly-relatable.

One woman said, ''In my first term of freshers I walked a drunk friend home after a night out. I refused to let anything happen but he said, ‘It’s not rape – you want this.''

Another women revealed that she had been raped three time since starting her studies: “I’ve lived in Bristol for about five years and since being a student here I've been raped again three times and assaulted a lot. Every time it happens it's been someone that I know, I like, I love and that I see all the time.”

Some of the women chose hide their identity by covering their faces with emojis and stickers.

The campaign is the brainchild of Hannah Price, th Online Editor of the student paper, Epigram. She hoped that using a familiar platform such as Snapchat would encourage her female peers feel comfortable enough to speak up.

In an interview with The Independent, Hannah spoke about the severity of the often forgotten issue.

“While at university, whenever the topic has been discussed with my girlfriends it was always met with ‘me too,’ or similar accounts.''

She continued, “But I've watched as it has become increasingly normalised – with us all just shrugging it off. So I wanted to spark the conversation before everyone went silent on the issue.”

The response to the original story was overwhelming positive and so Hannah has since compiled the clips into a six-minute Youtube video.

“Within a few hours of posting the original story I was contacted by a male survivor from the university who wanted to tell me he was touched by the campaign and thanking me for raising the voice on the issue,” Hannah revealed to The Independent

We applaud Hannah and the women of the University of Bristol for brining light to a topic has become increasingly normalised over the years.

2017 has well and truly cemented itself as the year when fashion got weird and this latest faux pas might just be the most outrageous yet.

Detachable denim jean-shorts are now a thing and we are thoroughly confused.

The jeans, designed by Y/Project, come in bleached blue or black and feature detachable legs that zip on and off.

Removed the lower half and you're left with a rather odd pair of high-waisted saddle shaped shorts – and in the words of style expert George Brescia, ''you could have the hottest body in the world and still not look good in these.”

Now, we're all about having options and they idea of a short-jean combo is actually kind of appealing, especially in the unpredictable Irish weather, but there's got to be a better way.

If you reckon you have what it takes to pull off this bold look, you can pick up a pair of 'Detachable cut-out front jeans' from Opening Ceremony for €403.

New research has revealed that almost 25 per cent of young women have stopped removing their underarm hair.

According to independent.ie, figures compiled by analysts Mintel show a steady decline in the amount of females aged 16 to 24 choosing to shave their legs and underarms.

In 2013, the same study found that 95 per cent of young women shaved under their arms while in 2016 that figure dropped to just 77 per cent.

Associate director in beauty and personal care at Mintel, Roshida Khanom, reckons the decline may be due to millenial women's increased interest in feminist and wellness movements.

"Clean eating is behind some of those changes. They're worried about causing irritation from their skin because of these products.''

She continued, "There's also some pushing back against societal expectations of what women should look like."

In the past celebrities like Madonna and Julia Roberts were never been shy about showing their natural growth and more recently stars such as Miley Cyrus and Lady GaGa have followed suit.

So, have you decided to go for the 'au naturel' approach?

Harry also admitted that his Mum cried when she heard his solo album for the first time, but she cried 'in a cool way.' Too cute.
