Mega congratulations are in order for Janet Jackson: the 50-year-old has just given birth to her first child, a boy.

The pop superstar and her husband, Wissam Al Mana, have named their son Eissa Al Mana.

The happy news has now been confirmed in a statement to People magazine.

"Janet had a stress-free healthy delivery and is resting comfortably," the statement added.

You're missing me, I'm missing you… I'll be rescheduling our Unbreakable shows in Europe as soon as I can. Xoxo

In April, the That’s The Way Loves Goes singer cancelled a planned world tour – admitting in a video posted to YouTube that she wanted to take some time out to start a family.

She only confirmed she was expecting in October, and has largely removed herself from the spotlight during her pregnancy.

Janet did, however, take to social media in November to reassure fans that she was “well”.

"Hey you guys… It's been awhile,” she wrote. “But I'm still listening. I feel your love and prayers. Thank you… and I'm doing well."

Her older brother, Jermaine, said before his nephew’s birth that Ms Jackson will be "a great mother because she is very tough, very strict".

He added: "But I tell her, 'If you need any parenting skills or baby skills, let me know because I'm the best diaper changer there is on this planet, still to this day’."

Maintaining a long distance relationship can be tricky, with physical contact being an impossibility when your love interest is hundreds of miles away.

As with all things in the 21st century, technology is coming to the rescue, as a somewhat bizarre smart phone device has just been invented that allows you to share intimate physical moments no matter how far apart you are.

The Kissenger allows kisses to be transferred over the internet using touch sensitive, real time robotic technology.

The device, which is available for smart phones with an app, uses matching kiss pads which apply pressure and sensation to your partners mouth in real time, essentially allowing you to share a virtual kiss with all of the sensitivity and response of a regular kiss.

Well, maybe not quite, but the robotic lip pad is dong a pretty good job of helping couples share a sweet kiss without being together.

The Kissenger works with pressure sensors and actuators that record and transmit the your kiss to the receiving device, which recreates it for the person on the other end, and vica versa.

The Kissenger originated as a cute, pig-like robot which plugs into the computer, perfect for ending those Skype sessions on a high.

However, the smart phone device comes with an app that allows you to make Facetime calls to your partner.

Not just for lovers, the Kissenger is also designed for parents to kiss their children on the cheek while at work or away on holidays, which is kind of sweet.

The device is still in development and hasn't yet been made available to the greater public.

The entire country has a case of the January blues today, as most of us headed back to work after the Christmas break.

While we may no longer fit into our jeans, that hasn't quenched our appetite for a bit of travel, and there's nothing like a bit of January planning to get us motivated for the new year.

Luckily, Ryanair has just launched a Back to Work sale, with 20 percent off over 2 million flights.

If you're a bargain hunter hoping to nab a few city breaks for a steal, now is the time to get planning.

A European break is just the thing to brighten up a gloomy January, and strolling around a gorgeous city is one way to walk off all those ham and turkey sandwiches.

The sale ends Wednesday at midnight on Ryanair.com

Tulle was all over the S/S 2017 runways, at high fashion houses like Dior and Dries Van Noten.

The frothy fabric is perfect for the brighter months, adding a hint of girly glam to even the most drab of outfits.

While the fabric is usually reserved for whimsical weddings and those of a ballet dancing disposition, Spring/Summer is the perfect excuse to get experimental with your look, and a tulle skirt is an easy way to mix things up.

This Littlewoods piece is a total steal for €40, and ticks all the boxes when it comes to styling a tulle skirt.

The tea length keeps it out of tutu territory and the dusty pink shade is the perfect nod to the soft, pastel shades of spring.

This look needs toughening up, so team with a t-shirt, boots and embroidered leather jacket for daytime, or really clash the textures with some fishnet tights and a boyfriend coat.

This gorgeous style is ideal if you're sick of body con skirts and jeans on a night out.

Add a leather look bralette or backless bodysuit and heels like model Dani Whittaker for a fresh, super glamorous night time look.

Or, opt for a portion of Jennifer Lawrence's new season style straight from the Dior runway and match it with an embellished jumper and high heeled boots.

If you ever dreamed of feeling like a princess as a kid, this spring stlke choice will seriously appeal to your inner child.

Just keep it grown up with edgy accessories and a hint of leather to avoid looking like a children's party extra.

New year, new you and all that malarky but January does provide a clean slate and a chance for you to set yourself some goals.

One thing we all should pay a little more attention to is our mental health.

We've set ourselves six New Year's resolutions to encourage better mental health and we think you should join us.

Awareness

Stress, mood swings and a lack of energy are all linked with our mental health.

Being aware that something is wrong is the first step in solving the problem.

If you had a cold for over a week, you’d go to the doctor.

If you’re feeling uneasy or upset for long periods of time, ask for help.

Sleep

Our bodies cannot perform properly if we do not get enough sleep – that also applies to our minds.

A good night’s sleep helps restore our bodies and brains and is incredibly important when it comes to maintaining a healthy mind.

Avoid tea and coffee in the evenings and try to wind down at least 30 minutes before the big snooze.

Food

A healthy diet is extremely important when it comes to both your physical and mental health.

Changing a few things in your diet can increase your energy, boost your mood and even help you get a better night’s sleep.

Try and eat as much fresh food as you can and you'll notice a big difference.

Positivity

While it’s natural to feel guilt, hanging on to it can have negative impacts on our mental health.

Beating yourself up constantly for something that is in the past only makes the road to recovery that much longer.

Try and take a step back from the problem and look at is for what it is.

Appreciate that you’ve learned something from the experience and try to stay positive.

Friends

Loneliness is one of the most intense of human emotions. Feeling disconnected from others can leave you dwelling on negative thoughts.

Make sure to make time for your friends this year. Making plans in advance or even setting up a schedule is a great way of making sure you don't neglect the important relationships in your life.

Not only is this good for your social life but it is sure to have you coming away feeling a lot happier and more positive.

Meditation

It might sound a little new age, but meditation is really all it’s cracked up to be.

Meditation is exercise for the brain and it encourages relaxation, calming and focus – all of which are great for our mental health.

While you may be a little intimidated to give it a try, there are tonnes of apps available to talk you through your first time and introduce you to the world of zen.

So… it looks like Gary Barlow’s new show Let It Shinemight land him in hot water with ex-boss Simon Cowell.

According to the Daily Mail, producer of the X Factor, Simon Cowell, is seeking legal advice as the rival show may “infringe his rights”.

The BBC announced plans for the new show back in June, after selling singing show The Voice UK to ITV.

Following the announcement a source told the Sun, "Cowell is going to be furious because he thinks it was X Factor that gave Gary the experience working on a show like this. Now he’s gone and set up a direct rival.

The Take That star who appeared as a judge on the X Factor for three consecutive years, told the BBC that there was a “demand” for another talent show.

The purpose of the new talent show is to find five leads to star in a Take That musical.

Graham Norton and Mel Giedroyc will host the new BBC One show, which runs for eight weeks. With Barlow heading up the judging panel, joined by fellow X Factor judge Dannii Minogue, Spandu Ballet’s Martin Kemp and Glee star Amber Riley.

Popularity for the singing competition has dwindled in recent years, with the most recent series losing viewers to Strictly Come Dancing.

Speaking to the BBC, Barlow said, "I think people are ingesting TV in a different way now. That old system of ratings shouldn't really apply anymore."

The 45-year- old star added, "But I think people are still loving, downloading and buying music and listening to music more importantly.

"And I think people are ready for a new Saturday night experience."

The show will kick off on Saturday night at 7pm on BBC One.

Thanks to the likes of Kendall Jenner and Bella Hadid, what we wear underneath our clothes has never been so fashionable.

Long gone are the days of boy shorts and extreme push up bras, with delicate lace and intricate detailing taking over when it comes to what we’re wearing under it all.

It’s a brand new year, and now is the time to kickstart the journey to a healthier, happer you.

Healthy eating habits will play a major role in this, and nutritional therapist Heather Leeson (Glenville Nutrition) is here to guide the way with expert advice and tips.

The road to hell….

Most of us launch ourselves into January full of good intentions and laden down with healthy eating resolutions. While up to 75 percent of us can maintain this for a week, most of us have fallen off the healthy wagon by the end of January. We know from our experience in the clinic that focusing on too many goals and trying to make too many changes all at once just leads to a feeling of being overwhelmed.

HULU tv shocked are you serious the mary tyler moore show

Don’t set yourself up to fail

Instead of trying to completely overhaul your diet in one dramatic sweep, take small steps.  Focus on one change at a time and make it stick. Make your goal as specific as possible. For example, rather than ‘drink more water’, your goal should be ‘drink seven glasses of water every day’.  Write it down and stick it somewhere you can see it every day, e.g., on your mirror or on the fridge. Mindfully practice your new goal every day for one month, then review your progress and add in another goal. By that stage, your initial goal should have become a habit that you don’t even think about. By the end of 2017, you will have adapted 12 healthier habits and be reaping the rewards.

Stuck for ideas?

If you are not sure where to start, try our healthy eating plan for 2017:

Month Goal
January  Eat five portions of vegetables (or half of your plate at lunch and dinner) every day
February  Drink seven glasses of water every day
March  Switch from white to wholegrain bread, rice and pasta
April  Limit treats to Fridays and Saturdays – or whatever days suit your schedule
May  Eat fish at least three times per week
June  Stick to the correct portion sizes for pasta and cheese – or whatever foods are your portion-size downfalls
July  Plan your meals one week in advance
August  Have two vegetarian evening meals per week
September  Eat a small amount of healthy fats: e.g. nuts, seeds, avocado every day
October  Include a health snack mid-afternoon: e.g. apple and a palmful of nuts
November  Do 45 minutes of exercise, three to four times per week
December  Try one new healthy recipe every week/ fortnight

Adapt these to suit you, but make sure that your goals are clear, simple and a change from what you are doing at the moment.

Some ideas to help you eat more vegetables in January:

Breakfast Lunch  Dinner
Omelette with spinach and mushrooms      Vegetable and lentil soup  Prawn stirfry with wholegrain rice
Poached egg with spinach and tomato Greek salad with baked potato or sweet potato Baked salmon with steamed mixed vegetables
Wholegrain bread with avocado and tomato   Rye bread with smoked mackerel, avocado and cucumber        Vegetable ratatouille with butterbeans or haloumi

As a healthy snack, try vegetable sticks (carrots, pepper, celery, sugar snap peas, cucumber….) with hummus or another healthy dip.

Make it as easy for yourself as possible

  • Keep frozen vegetables in your freezer
  • Keep fresh salad in your fridge.  While bagged salad is not always as nutritious as buying the lettuce heads, it’s much more nutritious than not eating salad at all
  • Get organised and spend a few minutes planning your meals for the week ahead

My top tip

Roast a couple of trays of vegetables at the weekend and keep these in the fridge to add to salads, soups, omelettes and other dishes during the week.  Most vegetables can be roasted, including peppers, courgettes, onions, aubergine, butternut squash, cauliflower, carrots, broccoli.

2016 definitely won't go down as anyone's favourite year ever, with some shocking political plot twists, the death of some of the world's most beloved icons and the rise of kale, it seems like everyone had a negative experience in the year just ended.

Poor life choices weren't just confined to the polling boots and salad bowls, 2016 was the year of unwearable fashion choices and done-to-death trends.

Here's a few of the most overdone, out-dated and insipid trends that need to stop passing for vaguely trendy in 2017.

1. Lace up everything

This trend, much like the creepy guy at the late bar, came on far too strong.

From the Kardashians lacing up everything from their corsets to their thigh-high boots (more on those later) to the fashion blogging scene adopting the trend at an exorbitant rate, this bondage-esque fad was chic for five minutes and then tired for the rest of the year, though that didn't stop the lace up becoming the most popular detail on our social media feeds.

2. "Instagram make up"

A photo posted by Huda Kattan (@hudabeauty) on

Instagram is a place of beauty extremes and "eyebrows on fleek," but a specific type of "Instagram face" has become unique to the beauty bloggers and micro-influncers who inhabit the social media site.

Boxy, blended brows, acres of contour, matte, thick foundation, lashings of lashes, a ice white highlight and lips over lined with a Kylie lip kit are the hall marks of the "Instagram face," which has become far too popular.

Whether you're scrolling through your feed or strolling down Henry Street, you will more than likely come into contact with the high maintenance look that launched a million beauty bloggers.

3. Juicy tracksuits

The noughties revival was kind of amusing in an 'it's never really going to happen" kind of a way.

Keeping with the plot twist theme of 2016, noughties style actually made a somewhat chic return thanks to the ironic styling of couture house Vetements, but when the Kardashians started donning Von Dutch trucker hats and Juicy Couture brought back it's classic velour tracksuit, we knew were were just one bare midriff and chunky highlighting job away from sartorial disaster.

4. Off the shoulder everything

A photo posted by Felicity Erin (@felicity_erin) on

Yes, we loved this top back in Spring 2016. It was without a doubt the it-piece of the moment, and everything from it's stylish off-the-shoulder cut to it's semi-professional pin stripe called out to us.

However, this piece became another done-to-death trend that spawned multiple copies that trickled down through every high street store the world over, and somehow, in the first freezing days of January, we're still seeing it on Pinterest. It needs to go.

5. Chokers

A photo posted by Handmade Chokers (@alienchokers) on

Chokers are one of the more stubborn remnants from the 90s revival.

A grown-up take on the choker is more than acceptable, but any elasticised bits of plastic we would have worn while listening to our No Doubt CD and playing on our Tamogotchis is a no no.

6. Bomber jackets

A photo posted by @syiraabb on

For some reason, bomber jackets are clinging on by their fingernails to their on-trend status.

Now the uniform of all teenage girls, the khaki green and pastel pink editions of this classic jacket style are officially over. Especially is they are made of a cheap, satin finish fabric.

7. Celebrity "tour merch"

After Justin Bieber did a sell out run of Purpose World Tour themed merch with Forever 21, the world went crazy for paying homage to the pop stars with over sized (and over priced) hoodies featuring their favourite famous faces.

While there is nothing wrong with showing off your musical loyalties while giving your idols some royalties, some stars created "merch" when they have no tours, or discernable musical talents, whatsoever (we're looking at you, Kylie Jenner)

8. Over lined lips

A photo posted by JESSICA SMART IV (@jessalicesmart) on

We're all guilty of going a tad overboard with the lip liner in pursuit of a perfectly plump pout.

However, there is a certain art to the overlined lip that unfortunately most of us mere mortals have yet to perfect.

We've been obsessed with big eyebrows and big lips, can we move onto something else? Big noses perhaps? Please?

9. Thigh-high boots

A photo posted by Sabrina (@love_for_style85) on

While there is no doubt that Julie Roberts is a style icon, her over the knee, lady of the night, pleather boots have no place on 2017's fashion rota.

Another victim of the lace up trend, the Kardashian's obsession with intricately laced, impossible to navigate bondage boots spurred the trend onto the high street, where a plight called "muffin thigh" then outraged those of us without model pins who wanted in on the trend.

10. "Festival fashion"

A photo posted by Rave Selfies (@raveselfies) on

Festival fashion has become a whole category of it's own, and what was once a smorgasbord of creative and artistic means of dressing to express your musical tastes has become a montage of fringing, crop tops and facial stickers that are officially basic.

A rainbow crochet crop top and arms decorated with flash tattoos might have been fabulous for Coachella 2012, but looks rather tragic in the rain at Longitude 2017.

Kylie Jenner isn't shy about flaunting her love for long-time boyfriend Tyga on social media, and now the star has gone one step further in showcasing her commitment.

The teenage makeup maven has added to her collection of tiny tattoos by opting for a teeny "t" in homage to her beau.

The miniscule inkling has been etched on the youngest Kardashian-Jenner's inner ankle for some time now, but went unnoticed due to it's small size.

Kylie actually posted a picture in which it is visible over a month ago, with few fans catching on in the comment's section.

The ink was done by celebrity tattoo artist Rafael Valdez, who previously did some of Kylie's other tatts.

A photo posted by Kylie (@kyliejenner) on

Kylie now has a grand total of five tattoos, and her "t" is the first one done in black ink.

The other four are red, and include a tiny heart on the back of her left arm, the word 'sanity' on her hip, the letter "m" on her middle finger and the signature of her grandmother Mary-Jo on her inner elbow.

Tyga has also used his body art collection to showcase his love for Kylie, opting to get her name tattooed in bold on his inner right arm, as part of his extensive collection.
