Monthly Archives: January 2017

It's been almost three years since Jeremy Meek's mugshot sent hearts a'flutter the world over after his image went viral.

The Californian felon was detained in a Nevada prison for felony weapon charges in 2014, but received over 100,000 likes after being posted to Stockton Police Department's Facebook page.

The attention won the father-of-three a lucrative modelling contract with White Cross Management before he was even released, and according to his Instagram, the gorgeous model is doing pretty well for himself.

The former felon can be seen posing in front of a Maserati car worth an estimated $150,000, parked outside a sprawling, well maintained mansion.

Clearly his new modelling career is raking in the royalties.

His social media is flooded with comments from well wishers, commending him on turning his life around and making the most of his second chance.

Fair play to him!

January sees full-to-capacity gyms, a supermarket clear-out of anything green and "superfood-y", and a surge in the hashtag  #IrishFitFam.

If, like us, you over indulged over Christmas and ate all of the cheese and chocolate in sight (even the pieces in your peripheral vision) you might be feeling like a good month at the gym will sort you out.

Or maybe your new year's resolution is just to eat a little better and move a little more.

Either way, stocking a whole new fitness wardrobe with fancy leggings and trendy mesh hoodies isn't always that easy on a January blues budget.

Black crop top €6, blue sports bra €4

Thankfully, budget high street store Penneys is swooping in to save the day, with a whole new collection of affordable and trendy athletic wear.

Getting some new workout wear can be motivation in itself to get down to the gym, and really, who needs another excuse to hit Penneys?

Speckled leggings €13, bush pink and mesh leggings €13

Leggings are a necessity for any gym wardrobe, but this speckled, high waisted pair could definitely double up as day wear when teamed with a chunky grey turtle neck and black duster coat.

And who doesn't want to wear comfy leggings all day long?

Mesh ballet hoodie €12, embroidered hoodie €12

Penneys is embracing the popularity of the barre class, with silk ballet wrap tops and hints of blush pink throughout its new athletic line, this mesh hoodie included.

Embroidery was also one of this season's biggest trends, so rocking some on your hoodie lapels is a no-brainer.

Blue runners €13, blush pink runners, €9

Runners are a necessity to take care of your foot and ankle comfort when walking the dogs or sweating it out in spin class.

At Penneys prices, you could literally pick up a pair to match every work-out outfit.

Water bottle €3, headphones €12

Accessorising your workout gear with a reusable bottle will save you from spending extra money on disposable bottles, and if one of your new year's resolutions is to become more eco-friendly, you'll be fulfilling that one too.

Headphones are a necessity to block out the world and focus on your favourite workout playlist, and this rose-gold pair is perfect for remaining on trend and on form.

The only downfall to Penneys new collection? Now we have no excuse not to hit the gym.

Most of us follow our hearts when it comes to the person we love, right? So what if someone told you that you can decrease your love for someone by thinking negative thoughts? It doesn't sound too great, does it?

But, according to a study by the University of Missouri, people can choose how much they love their significant other, and it all sounds a bit strange.

The Wall Street Journal reports that 'love regulation' can be used to either increase or decrease love and ease a broken heart.

The researchers compared a group of 20 singletons to a group of 20 people in a long-term relationship. They all had to bring in 30 photos of their current or ex-partner, and then asked to think of both positive and negative thoughts about the person in the picture.

They were also asked how infatuated with the person they were/are, and while all this was going on, they had their brainwaves measured.

The research found that when the participants were thinking of positive thoughts about the other person, they could 'up regulate' their love for them.

And when they were thinking negative thoughts? Yep, you guessed it. They 'down regulated' their love.

Now, easing a broken heart seems all well and good, but having to constantly think of negative aspects of a person you love or once loved can't be healthy.

Are we alone on this? Or, will anyone out there try this method?

Once you hit a certain age, you quickly realise that the festive season is less about who popped the button of their pants after Christmas dinner and more about who popped that all-important question on Christmas Eve.

Whether you have any intention of tying the knot with your other half, you can be damn sure half your Facebook friends were expecting a big announcement at some stage between December 24 and January 2 especially if you guys have been dating a while.

While you may laugh at the thought of your fella getting down on bended knee the rest of the year around, there's something about Christmas that allows you indulge the notion, imagine the picture-perfect moment… and then it doesn't happen.

(No, they're not exactly subtle, but that's not how we roll.)

1. Splash out on a pair of designer gloves… and refuse to take them off inside the house.

"Ah no need to, babe. Sure, who'd want to be looking at my bare, old hands?"

2. Throw the remote against the wall and storm out of the room every time Don't Tell the Bride and Say Yes To The Dress come on.

"What? There's nothing wrong. I just have a sudden urge to use my stress ball."

3. Spend an afternoon creating a thoughtful collage for the friends in your life who did get engaged this Christmas.

"Don't mind me, I'm just excited to share in their happiness. Pass the glitter there babe, would you? Six months he spent planning it, would you believe? Six months."

4. Answer 'quiet' in a terse manner before shooting your bloke a look any time the pair of you are asked how your Christmas was.

"What?! It was quiet. Really…bloody… quiet."

5. Ruin a night out by insisting you have to go home to use the bathroom because the pub toilets are jammers.

"They're all engaged babe."

6. Avoid any conversation about the future because if he can keep you on your toes, then you sure as hell can do the same.

"Dinner? Next Saturday? Can't say for sure if I'll be around. Week after? Ah, who's to say at this stage?"

Are you planning a proposal? Know someone that is? SHEmazing! would LOVE to hear from you here – and help make it moment that your loved-one will remember always.

From festivals and concerts to TV show revivals, we're looking for any little bit of hope that 2017 will be better than 2016.

And even though a TV show will never compare to having world peace, they do give us a little bit of light at the end of a hard day.

One of our favourite series of all time was Will and Grace, and even though they had a revival last September (their goal for the episode was to stop Donald Trump becoming president – eerrr), it seems that that was not enough, and apparently 10 new episodes are coming by the end of this year.

We say apparently because, well, NBC hasn't confirmed anything, BUT former Will and Grace star Leslie Jordan (a.k.a. Beverly, Karen's rival) is all talk about the new series.

He told KPBS:  "It's back. Here's the way it works: [NBC] has ordered 10 episodes. It'll be for next season, so [the cast will] go in in July. And then they'll add the guest cast. I'll get a phone call."

We won't hold our breathes juuuust yet, but how awesome would a full revival be?!

Lena Dunham isn't shy when it comes to showcasing her body on her hit TV show Girls.

However, getting the fashion industry to accept a regular sized, cellulite speckled physique isn't always the easiest endeavour.

This week Lena is praising Glamour for showing off her gorgeous, un-retouched body on the cover of it's February edition.

The cover sees Lena posing with her Girls co-stars Jemina Kirke, Allison Williams and Zosia Mamet, decked out in Spice Girls-esque platform booties and rainbow hued ensembles from Marc Jacob's new season.

Most magazines air brush out any signs of imperfection, from cellulite to moles to less than symmetrical features (Lena was previously caught up in a photoshop drama with Vogue), but February's Glamour cover shows Lena just as she is, cellulite and all.

Taking to Instagram, Lena praised the fashion tome for their inclusivity and penned a heartfelt caption about her experiences with body shaming.

"Throughout my teens I was told, in no uncertain terms, that I was f**king funny looking. Potbelly, rabbit teeth, knock knees — I could never seem to get it right and it haunted my every move," she wrote.

"I posed as the sassy confident one, secretly horrified and hurt by careless comments and hostility. Let's get something straight: I didn't hate what I looked like — I hated the culture that was telling me to hate it."

"When my career started, some people celebrated my look but always through the lens of 'Isn't she brave? Isn't it such a bold move to show THAT body on TV?'"

A photo posted by Lena Dunham (@lenadunham) on

"Then there were the legions of trolls who made high school teasing look like a damned joke with the violent threats they heaped on, the sickening insults that made me ache for teen girls like me who might be reading my comments."

"Well, today this body is on the cover of a magazine that millions of women will read, without photoshop, my thigh on full imperfect display," she continued.

"Whether you agree with my politics, like my show or connect to what I do, it doesn't matter — my body isn't fair game. No one's is, no matter their size, colour, gender identity, and there's a place for us all in popular culture to be recognised as beautiful."

Lena's cover is getting lots of positive feedback online, with fans rejoicing over the display of body positivity.

However, like all images featuring women who chose to detach themselves from typical beauty norms, the image is also garnering hate from online trolls.

"Haters are gonna have to get more intellectual and creative with their disses in 2017 because none of us are going to be scared into muumuus by faceless basement dwellers, or cruel blogs, or even our partners and friends," said the star. Hear hear!

Kylie Jenner took to Twitter last night ot tell fans that she will be removing herself from her app for the time being.

Kylie, who has always had input and directed the content for her application Kylie, is stepping down after comments she claims she "never said" were posted to the site.

The comments were about her intimate sex life with long term boyfriend Tyga, and included a suggestion that the way to keep your man happy was through the use of sex toys, massages and lingerie.

The post, called Kylie: How I Spoil My Man, has since been deleted.

The teenage makeup maven took to Twitter to tell fans she will be quitting work on her app for the foreseeable future after the article was posted, allegedly without her permission.

The post was "very personal" and the star felt that it was "unfair" that it had been published.

The post outlined a number of ways that Kylie apparently "takes care" of Tyga, including cooking for him and his friends, creating a "fun sex life" and bringing him breakfast in bed.

"This morning, a drafted article was inadvertently posted for a short period of time on Kylie's app. This was a draft that was not in Kylie's words, was not Kylie's idea and had not been sent to her for approval," said a spokesperson for the Kylie app.

However, fans aren't happy with Kylie's decision to step down from the app:

"What's the point of having an app in your name if you don't post on it? Or am I missing something?" said one.

When Kylie will come back to her app in the wake of the unapproved post has yet to be seen.

Does anyone remember when Kris Jenner bought her whole family scooters so they could all have a scooter day back in 2013?

Yeah, no one in the Kardashian clan seemed remotely impressed by them, but now Kris's son-in-law Kanye has splashed 20 grand on scooters – and honestly, they're SO weird-looking.

According to TMZ, Yeesuz bought 12 URB-Es which are foldable, motorised scooters, that can travel up to 25k/h… oh, and they're €1630 each – without all the fancy bits and bobs.

Kanye decked them out all in black carbon and accessorised them with leather handle straps, a mobile phone mount and the scooters can ever charge your phone or tablet.

If growing up has taught us anything, it's that blue food is NOT good.

Because let's be honest, if food is blue, it's usually full of sugar, food colouring and those nasty E numbers we're told to always stay away from.

So, when we first saw a blue latte, we thought, 'this can't be good for you', but… it's actually quite the opposite.

Spotted on Instagram  thanks @gemmawallacefitness

A photo posted by Cracked Nut (@crackednut) on

As advertised in the Cracked Nut in Dublin, this blue algae latte is super rich in nutrients, full of protein, vitamins and minerals, so… it's pretty extremely healthily.

And, what's actually in it? The so-called smurf latte is made up of lemon, ginger, agave, almond milk, and E3 live algae.

Also… imagine how good your Instagram game would be with a blue coffee in the shot?

The last time Kim Kardashian took to Instagram was 13 weeks ago.

However, the reality star took to social media last night to post a picture of her family, the first snippet from her own photos in over three months.

A photo posted by Kim Kardashian West (@kimkardashian) on

And while it's completely understandable to take that time off since her Paris robbery, was taking three months strategic?

Kimmy shared the cutest picture of herself and Kanye, with their daughter North, and son, Saint.

Having a quick skim through her account and the other pictures of her kids, Kim's average 'likes' on a photo crop up to be about 1 million.

This new family photo raked in 3.3 million.

Now, we know that w'e totally speculating, and Kim could just be 'back' because she chose this time, but it makes you think. Is she going to totally re-launch herself this time round?

Are we ready for Kim 2.0? It'll be exciting to see.
