You'd almost feel a great big whack of empathy for the celebrities of yesteryear: after all, they did NOT have all the advantages of nifty hair gadgets, advanced hair products, and – most significantly – hair extensions that famous faces today can rely on.

Case in point: L'Oreal ambassador and all-round totally gorgeous gal Cheryl Cole – who once sported cornrows (hello, 2002) in a bid to jazz up her tresses.

Nuff said.

However, and while extensions have certainly in more recent times been championed by a host of red-carpet connoisseurs, small and big screen stars, and catwalk queens, adding to your own strands is now increasingly commonplace for us normal folk too.

In fact, one recent survey in the UK revealed that an astonishing one in three women – from all walks of life – currently wears extensions.

A video posted by Gold Fever Italia (@goldfeveritalia) on

Yes, Britney Spears, Paris Hilton, and Katie Price once gave them a seriously bad name, but there's no doubt that the hair extensions available right now are a practically flawless addition to what nature already bestowed on you.

A whack of celebrities opt for Gold Fever – mainly because it's seemingly as close to your own real hair as extensions come. That and it's ethically-sourced and fans of the brand swear that it doesn't cause any damage to their own precious tresses.

The current crop of fans include the likes of models Georgia Salpa and Rosanna Davison; actress Michelle Keegan; Cocoa Brown's Marissa Carter, Made In Chelsea's Lucy Watson and Nicola Hughes; Celebrity Big Brother's Danielle Lloyd; and singers Una Healy, Tallia Storm, and Louisa Johnson.

But with prices for a set – which should last six months – ranging from a couple of hundred euro up to €1,000 for more complex transformations, is it money well spent?

Well, if the before-and-after snaps of Average Josephines in salon chairs up and down the country are anything to go by, the answer is a resounding 'yes!'.

Online reviews from bloggers and influencers are suitably gushing too.

"I have the flattest, straightest, most lank hair you can imagine, so I just love the volume and fullness the Gold Fever Hair Extensions give me," writes The Style Fairy, aka Naomi Clarke.

"Even though I have a serious amount of hair, styling is very easy. It takes me about 10 minutes to curl my hair and about 15 to dry it," highlights The Beautiful Truth – Sinead Kavanagh.

"The results as you can see are nothing short of beautiful," states Kellie B Beautiful, aka Kellie Billings, adding: "It has definitely given me a little confident boost."

Yup, clearly things have come a LONG way since Paris and Nicole first rocked super-long and lanky locks on The Simple Life – and there's no doubt that (unlike Cheryl's cornrows) hair extensions is one trend that's here to stay.

While we get that Khloe is loving her super fit and healthy lifestyle, we're not buying her latest "natural" hangover cure.

We'd rather get stuck into a spice bag and a Coke, but Khloe recommends a much more calorie chaste alternative.

"I’m no stranger to living it up on a night out and then enduring a rough morning," the star admitted on her website

The star's fail safe remedy involves some GOOP-worthy yoga and herbal tea.

"If the thought of yoga isn’t vomit-inducing, then try doing child’s pose. The position is said to stimulate the circulation of lymph, a fluid in your body that helps remove toxins, AKA all that alcohol you drank last night," advises the fitness fanatic.

Rather than that breakfast tea with two sugars, Khloe recommends a concoction of hot water, coconut and lemon, as well as ginger and mint tea.

We'd be proud if we managed to emerge from under the duvet covers, never mind do some yoga and brew some Instagramable ginger tea.

In some more relatable advice, Khloe sings the praises of replacing lost nutrients through the pursuit of carby bagels and bananas.

We'd still prefer a three-in-one but we could live with a hungover bagel.

We are all aware of the rental crisis that Ireland is currently dealing with, and in a bid to tackle the growing issue, new proposals will be brought to the Cabinet today.

Hoping to give “rent predictability”, Minister for Housing Simon Coveney plans to limit rent increases in Dublin and Cork to four percent a year over the next three years, according to the Irish Times.

Any area that has seen rents increase by above average in the past 18 months will be designated as 'rent pressure zones' by the Residential Tenancies Board.

Once an area is designated a 'rent pressure zone', the restrictions will apply for at least three years.

This doesn’t affect existing measures which only allow for a rent review every two years.

The news comes as Threshold – a charity set up to prevent homelessness and give housing advice – launches their annual report which calls for rent and “insecure tenancies” to be dealt with.

The moment we're introduced to a hack, most of us wonder how we lived so long without it… and, perhaps more importantly, why we never thought of it ourselves.

If that sounds at all familiar, then prepare to hang your heads in shame, ladies.

In a move which has us re-evaluating pretty much everything, Clare from Manchester took to Twitter to share her use for her fridge's water dispenser, and frankly we're stunned we never thought to do it ourselves.

Filling the water tray with sweet, sweet vino, the 28-year-old beauty marketer created an icy wine dispenser which has us salivating into our sleeves right about now.

"My adult life just peaked," she wrote alongside a shot which has racked up a staggering 173,000 likes in just two days.

Commenting on the viral post, one Twitter user responded: "This is my dream, I can't believe, as a wine addict, that I never thought of this!"

And everyone from Time Magazine to BuzzFeed want in on Clare's ingenuity – much to the surprise of Clare who tweeted: "Right, I'm off to The Winchester and waiting for all of this to blow over."

Sounding like a gal after our own heart, Clare was actually more stricken by her description in the countless publications who have highlighted her top-notch hack than the public's interest in the hack.

"Even with all this madness, the thing that is scaring me the most is that people are calling me a 'woman', I am not adult enough for that!"

We wonder if she has an opening for a BFF.

While we all love a bit of Christmas nail art, these green fur nail transfers left us laughing.

When beauty addict Beau Tuts posted a snap of these talons to Twitter, she didn't quite get the response she was hoping for.

People roasted the out-there look, dubbing them "Grinch nails," and creating hundreds of hilarious re-tweets.

People had some seriously strong opinions about the green fuzzy finger tips, and didn't hold back when it came to sharing their thoughts.

"Looks like you slapped the Grinch with wet nails & couldn't get his fur off," said one.

"The Grinch stole Christmas and ya damn nails," said another.

Models at the Libertine A/W 2016 fashion show at New York Fashion Week donned the dramatic look last Spring, so it actually is a haute couture trend.

Haters gonna hate.

One student has decided to highlight the offensive and sexist comments that have been made in the past by President elect Donald J Trump.

Aria Watson was two weeks too young to vote in this year's election, but still wanted to do something to draw attention to remarks made by the POTUS that she perceived as sexist or controversial.

“I never really cared for or understood politics, but this year was different,” she told the Huffington Post.

The teen created a series of images called #Signed By Trump  in which she wrote quotes from Trump on women's bodies.

The haunting images have since gone viral across social media after Aria posted them to Tumblr at the weekend.

She originally posted the pictures, which feature mild nudity, on Instagram and Facebook, but both sites had them removed.

“As a feminist, when I saw that Donald Trump actually won, my heart shattered,” she said.

"We can’t have a leader who says such horrible things about women. I’m scared that the way he speaks about women ― this sexism and misogyny ― will end up becoming a social norm,” she told the Huffington Post.

The photo series was created for Aria's final year photography project at her community college in Oregon.

"Don't let people silence you," encouraged the art student, who received plenty of backlash from friend and family for creating the project.

Remember when Clay County Development director, Pamela Ramsey Taylor, decided it would be in the public's interest to deride Michelle Obama in a particularly racist Facebook post last month?

Well, if you thought justice had been done in the case following Ramsey Taylor's firing, you'd be wrong.

According to emerging reports, the director of the non-profit group has actually been reinstated despite recently tweeting: "It will be refreshing to have a classy, beautiful, dignified First Lady in the White House."

"I'm tired of seeing a ape in heels," she added in a move which understandably caused considerable outrage online.

Commenting on the matter, Leslie McGlothin to the West Virginia Bureau of Senior Services explained that Ramsey Taylor is set to re-join the group on December 23 after being subject to a 'suspension'.

But while Ramsey Taylor will be returning to her position, West Vrginia's Clay County mayor, Beverly Whaling, who said the racist post had 'made her day' will not be returning to her post after resigning amid the public furore.

Similarly, Dr Michelle Herren who called the First Lady a 'monkey face' in a Facebook post resigned from her position at the University of Colorado in recent weeks.

From Drop the Mic to Comedy Central Roast, watching celebrities insult each other has got to be one of our favourite pastimes.

So when we heard Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt had gone head to head on Scott Mill's Playground Insults, we knew we'd be in for a good'un.

And thankfully the stars of Passengers did not disappoint.

From seeing Jennifer call Chris out on his 'strong guy' rep to watching Chris admit he hates Jennifer and Adele in equal measure, they guys didn't disappoint.

But there can only be one winner….

Ed Sheeran has ended his year long social media sabbatical, exactly one year from his last postings.

The star returned under mysterious circumstances.

Rather than posting a casual selfie or a sunset from his year of travelling, the star has been posting cryptic blue boxes across his Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

It's prompted fans to think that the singer is about to release his 3rd album.

In his last social media post one year ago, the singer promised "the 3rd album is on it's way and it's the best thing I've made thus far."

Fans are in uproar online trying to guess what the blue boxes mean, with most assuming (and praying) that it is a nod to a new album.

"Wow I've never been more excited to see a picture of the colour blue," tweeted one fan.

"He's somewhere pissing himself laughing at the amount of commotion a blue profile picture is causing hahaha," laughed another.

Either way, we're just glad the Thinking Out Loud singer is back.

Kim Kardashian has been taking a well deserved break from the pot light since being held at gun point during an armed robbery in a luxury Paris apartment on October 2.

The star last posted on Instagram, Twitter and Snapchat on the day of the robbery, but there has been no trace of her online ever since.

Luckily for Kim fans, the star took part in Love magazine's advent calendar, a video series which releases a video of one star a day until Christmas.

Previous advent videos have featured the likes of Bella Hadid, Kendall Jenner, Emily Ratajkowski and Rita Ora.

While it is likely that the video was shot before her Parisian ordeal, we're hoping this release marks the selfie queen's immanent return to social media.

The star previously made a momentary return to Twitter in late October to delete 13 friends from the following list.

Kim has recently been helping husband Kanye West recover from his breakdown from exhaustion.

We can't get enough of Carpool Karaoke these days, as Jame's Cordon's star studded videos keep getting better and better.

From the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Lady Gaga and Michelle Obama, everyone who's anyone has rode shotgun with the British comedian.

This week, the LA carpool will feature none other than 24 Carat Magic singer Bruno Mars.

Social media has been freaking out about the big reveal, since a sneak preview of the episode was uploaded to YouTube this morning.

"I've been waiting decades for this!" commented one excited fan.

While most fans are pumped to see the Treasure singer in all of his karaoke glory, some are calling for carpool dodger Beyonce to appear in the segment.

While we'd love to see Queen Bey on the show, we're beyond thrilled with the prospect of seeing Bruno in action, after his amazing performance on last week's Victoria's Secret fashion show catwalk.

Amber Heard has always been vocal about the alleged domestic violence she suffered at the hands of now ex-husband Johnny Depp.

The 30-year-old wrote a powerful open letter in Porter where she spoke out about her experiences ad gave her advice to women the world over who are victims of abuse.

"You are not alone. You may have suffered alone behind closed doors, but you are not alone. You need to know that. I want to remind you of your strength, a strength that has been multiplied by the number of women who stand silently behind you—a truth that allowed me to break down the doors I once found myself behind," she began.

"Let's start with the truth—the cold, hard truth. When a woman comes forward to speak out about injustice or her suffering, instead of aid, respect and support, she will be met with hostility, scepticism and shame. Her motives will be questioned and her truth ignored."

A photo posted by @mybeauties44 on

'I never felt like anyone would or could rescue me, so naturally I resented the label of "victim."

"As I write this today, I can promise every woman who is suffering in silence, you are not alone. You may not see us, but we are there," finished the actress.

The letter comes after the star's moving video about domestic violence was pulled from the internet, presumably because it was in breach of the confidentially clause included in her divorce settlement with actor Johnny Depp. We hope this letter doesn't go the same way.
