As the old saying goes, "an apple a day keeps the doctor away", but did you know just how much apples can actually help your health?

The delicious fruit is packed with numerous vitamins and minerals which contribute to a healthy and well protected system. They contain plenty of anti-oxidants as well as vitamin C which help protect your body against bacteria and viruses.

Here's how the humble apple can benefit your health:

Prevents cancer

Apples have potent anti-cancer abilities that protect the body from harmful cells. Even more they help reduce pancreatic cancer by up to 23%!

Anti-cholesterol

Apples have high amounts of fiber. When eaten the soluble fibers compete with fats and result in the decrease of absorption of bad cholesterol levels.

Boosts immunity

The anti-oxidant quercetin is found in red apples and boosts your immunity to build natural defenses for your body.

Diabetes

Apples aid in fighting off oxygen-free radicals that cause diabetes. They are packed with fibers that are key to blunting blood sugar swings.

Weight loss

Fiber comes along to save the day again as it fills the stomach with fewer calories. Hence, reducing the calorie intake along with filling your stomach up for longer.

Last week, he was caught out liking a week-old snap on her Twitter feed, but it seems that Zayn Malik is playing his cards right: he nabbed an invite to Kylie Jenner's birthday bash in LA.

Held at Bootsy Bellows nightclub in West Hollywood last night – where the woman of the hour was gifted with a €300,000 Ferrari – the newly-single singer was certainly smiling when he left in the early hours of this morning.

He was flanked by several members of his security team at the time of his departure.

For the occasion he wore a T-shirt with ripped pale denim jeans and white trainers. He completed his look with a blue camouflage bomber jacket from Louis Vuitton's latest collection.

There's no word yet whether the former One Direction star will also be attending Kylie's main celebration in Canada this weekend – but here's to hoping that their friendship continues to blossom.

Meanwhile, Ms Jenner is stepping up her Instagram game.

Still, with a host of B- and C-list names desperate to spread the news of their new-found fortune (the gig comes with a big pay cheque), leaks regularly take place in advance… and it seems that this year is no different.

Just a couple of weeks back we got a detailed look at Taylor Swift's incredible €18m seven-bedroom apartment in Tribeca, New York, and now it seems she could be ready to snap up some property in Europe.

The Shake It Off singer already has homes in Nashville, Los Angeles, New York and Rhode Island, but there's always room for one more. And according to a new source, Taylor's got her eye on a certain property in Scotland – a €4.1m 16th century Scottish castle, to be exact.

The Tower of Lethendy is on a 40-acre estate and boasts an 18-hole golf course, a heated pool, two tennis courts and a croquet lawn, MailOnline reports. Imagine the Instagram opportunities for the #GirlSquad…

The main part of the castle, a Scottish Baronial house, has eight bedrooms and seven bathrooms, and there are also two gate lodges and two staff cottages.

Despite the period architecture, the interior of the castle is more modern, having been updated 20 years ago. It's currently owned by a Canadian family and looks like the perfect second (or third, or fourth) home.

One thing we bet caught Tay's eye was the huge marble and pine kitchen, perfect for evenings of baking and chilling with Calvin:

The rest of the house is full of oak furnishings and period details, like the beautiful wooden staircase and reception hall:

As for the master bedroom, it's typically girly but might need an update if Taylor moves in:

The castle is located around an hour form Edinburgh, where Calvin's family are based. This isn't the first time the singer has had an interest in buying property for slightly biased reasons, of course.

Back in 2012 Taylor purchased a Cape Cod mansion just minutes from the summer home of her then boyfriend, JFK's grand-nephew. After the pair split, Taylor didn't hesitate to sell the vacation house on, making close to €1m in profit on the sale.

Joking about her penchant for property last year to Vanity Fair, Taylor said, "People say that about me, that I apparently buy houses near every boy I like. If I like you I will apparently buy up the real estate market just to freak you out so you leave me."

Wonder what Calvin thinks of this latest project…

It's fair enough to say that we all want to know the easiest way to tone up our tums and bums, and it seems like someone has figured it out.

Forget the insane workouts and the diet consisting of only raw organic kale and just take a nap instead. It turns out, stripping down before hopping into bed could be the secret to the toning you're after.

You could get that leaner physique from sleeping nude according to strength coach Charles R Poliquin.

The National Sleep Foundation in America have conducted a study which shows that one in three adults sleep in the nude and now it seems that has all sorts of health benefits.

According to the strength coach, sleeping in the nude can help lower your cortisol levels which will in turn help you tone up.

Cortisol causes your body to stores extra fat and especially visceral fat which can be extremely bad for your health. Visceral fat surrounds vital organs such as the heart which can lead to heart disease.

It is reported that sleeping naked lowers the cortisol levels that are produced while you sleep. This leaves more cortisol to be released during the day when you can use it up more effectively during exercise.

'If you make too much cortisol, you are limiting your testosterone production. The consequences being that building muscle and burning fat becomes harder,'

According to Charles, if you get too hot during the night, the production of growth hormones in your body suffers and in turn that makes it harder for your body to burn fat.

'You need optimal levels of growth hormone to repair all tissues in the body and also to burn fat. Healthy growth hormone production also benefits your immune system, and lowers your risk of diabetes and heart disease."

If you happened to step outside at any stage over the weekend, you might have noticed an abundance of tiny flying creatures around the place.

These are not just any bog standard flies, either. They're flying ants, with thick wings and a tendency to smack directly into your arm or face if you walk in their path. Shudder.

What you might not have known though, is that this manky fly invasion is in fact a yearly phenomenon that has been dubbed "flying ant day." Although it generally lasts more than just one day, it does occur around the same time every summer, when ants have their mating season.

At this time, ants sprout wings and leave their colonies to find new homes in other areas. Afterwards, the females shed their wings and the males die off. It's call "nuptial flight," and us pesky humans are getting in the way.

While the flying ant invasion should be all over by tomorrow, people are still taking to Twitter in their droves to try and find out WTF is going on.

Some of us are feeling welcoming…

Others are terrified…

While some just want to be able to go for a walk in peace, for God's sake.

It's not all bad news, though…

Unless you're a flying ant, that is.

If they don't go soon we'll have to resort to desperate measures:

Just let us be!

Juicing has become all the rage over the last few years, and advocates are certainly reaping in the benefits from it.

That's because fruit juice has a seriously long list of benefits and most of us should really be consuming more of it than we do.

Here's a breakdown of our favourite juices and what makes them so healthy for us…

Watermelon Juice

This is made up of 90 percent water which pretty much makes it the most hydrating juice drink out there. It is full of antioxidants too which help fight the chances of heart disease, high blood pressure and even cancer.

Orange Juice

We all know that orange juice is full of vitamin C but did you know that this is what keeps you having a healthy immune system? It also fights off damage causing radicals which can lead to high blood pressure.

Pomegranate Juice

This is your antioxidant bomb. Filled with vitamins E and C, this juice drink helps to reduce wrinkles and protect against sun damage.

Blueberry Juice

Blueberries are linked to reducing all types of mental health disorders, with a strong link to beating Alzheimer's disease. They have high mounts of flavonoids which are linked to lowering the chances of diabetes as well as lowering blood pressure.

Grapefruit Juice

This juice drink aids in releasing excess water retention, which we all hate! It also boosts your metabolism, strengthens your immune system and helps in weight loss control.

Cranberry Juice

Rich in antioxidants and vitamin C, cranberry juice has great anti-inflammatory components which help prevent kidney stones and other kidney infections.

That's all you need to know: now lets get juicing!

Newly single Vogue Williams stunned at the Goodwood races in West Sussex with not one, but TWO amazing outfits being showcased.

The model and reality TV star was there in the capacity of fashion correspondent for Channel 4 Racing late last week, when the high-profile event took place.

Afterwards, and despite being a regular at some of Ireland's best courses, she admitted that the Goodwood Races was one of her favourites because of its laid-back style.

"I’ve been to a lot of racing events but Goodwood has a totally different feel to it, it’s a very relaxed atmosphere and it felt like more of a huge garden party," she explained in her blog for Hello Online. Sounds like our type of races!

The 29-year-old Dubliner furthermore let us in on her jam-packed schedule saying: "I started my days with a production meeting and then I went around the race track looking for amazing outfits to feature on the show."

Vogue believes style makes a big impact on race days saying: "I think fashion is a huge part of racing and everyone puts an massive amount of effort into their looks. The style at Goodwood is really relaxed."

On the first day of the event, the Bear Grylls: Mission Survive winner donned a gorgeous white lace dress from Spotted On Celeb, teaming it with a vibrant pink hat by milliner Laura Apsit Livens.

And on the second day, Ms Williams went for a more casual approach, wearing a pastel yellow floaty dress from Beulah with a Vivien Sheriff head piece. The model admitted that she wanted to go for a "1930's type look".

We think Vogue looked great in both outfits and is definitely giving us major style envy!

Yesterday, naked pictures of the DJ were released by Utan; a newly-released tanning product for which Vogue is fronting a major campaign.

Indeed, such was the interest in the incredible snaps that the site crashed.

The first few weeks of college can be pretty overwhelming, especially if you're moving away from home for the first time. Grocery shopping, sorting classes, getting to know people AND trying to avoid waking up with the hangover of a lifetime… it's a lot of responsibility.

As with anything in life though, there are a few cheats and tricks that can make things a whole lot easier for you.

Here are a few of our faves…

1. Avail of ALL the freebies
Colleges are a goldmine for free stuff at the start of term. Stock up on goodie bags and welcome packs for free snacks, vouchers and stationery. Plus get takeaway pizza galore at society welcome meetings.

2. Amplify the sound on your tablet using a plastic cup
For a phone or iPod, simply stand it inside the cup.

3. Take notes in different coloured ink
This will aid your visual memory and help with recall come exam time.

4. Raid the yellow sticker section at your local supermarket
Food that's nearly at its "best before" date but is still perfectly fine to eat is often sold at knockdown prices, so look for the yellow stickers. Try to get there before the evening rush to get the best picks.

5. No plates for pizza? Use this handy trick.
GENIUS.

6. Laptop overheating? Fear not.
Allow more air circulation by placing it on a drinks tray or egg box. Plus, this way it can still rest on your lap.

7. No more warm beer
Use the paper towel trick!

8. For easier reheating of leftovers, here's how to fit two bowls in the microwave
Happy days.

9. Get hangover savvy
Fill up on food before drinking, not after – your liver will be too busy breaking down alcohol to break down that 2am kebab. Also stay hydrated and take a multivitamin every day to keep fighting fit. Ed knows the rules.
