If you’re putting together a proposal on why afternoon naps should be a compulsory part of your work day, you’re very lucky to have stumbled across this.

We’re paraphrasing slightly, but NASA has decreed that we must all have a short snooze during the day because naps make us better people.

Most of us have heard that naps are supposed to be beneficial and it’s been common to think this was nothing more than an urban myth.

It’s not – it’s actual, credible science.

NASA’s incredibly wise scientists put a ‘napping study’ together in which pilots were divided into two groups: a ‘resting’ group and a ‘no rest’ group.

The ‘resters’ were allowed to take a 40-minute cockpit nap at some stage during the flight, while pilots in the ‘no rest group’ weren’t – poor things.

They found that pilots who napped performed much better than those who didn’t.

So the next time somebody tells you to change your napping ways, tell them science says, “Shhhh”.

Could Johnny Depp and Amber Heard be heading down the aisle soon?

Reports are circulating that the Pirates of the Caribbean star and his girlfriend Amber have gotten engaged. The rumour mill began churning after Heard was seen hiding her hand from photographers – although a glimpse of a diamond ring on her ring finger was caught all the same.

After first meeting in 2011 while filming The Rum Diaries, the pair began dating following the breakdown of Depp’s long-term relationship with Vanessa Paradis, with whom he has two children.

It’s easy to fall into the trap of thinking January is the time to start a fad diet or an extreme detox, but the experts from Wellbeing Escapes shows we’ve been getting it wrong all along.

Since days are much longer now, our body’s natural cycle dictates that we actually need extra care and nourishment to get us through winter times.

Here are a few ways we can take care of our bodies without putting it through hell:

  • Eat nourishing foods but don’t overdo it and always eat according to your body’s requirements.
  • Pamper yourself when you get the chance with a gentle massage.
  • A bit of yoga never killed anyone – do gentle workouts that will still help you to build up enough sweat to release toxins from your body.
  • Make some time for meditation because when your mind is at peace, your body is at peace.

As far as a detox goes, try holding off until spring. Your body will naturally have more energy, so you will probably get better results.

A change to the end of the movie adaptation of Gillian Flynn’s best-selling novel Gone Girl is set to divide fans.

The screenplay, rewritten by Flynn herself and directed by David Fincher (Fight Club, The Social Network) is due out in October.

Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike are set to star as the novel’s couple Amy and Nick Dunne. Nick becomes prime suspect when Amy vanishes from their rural home on their fifth wedding anniversary.

Flynn isn’t giving anything away, however she has said; “There was something thrilling about taking this piece of work that I’d spent about two years painstakingly putting together with all its eight million Lego pieces and take a hammer to it and bash it apart and reassemble it into a movie,”.

This isn’t the only novel of Flynn’s that is set to be made into a movie this year; Dark Places is also set for release in 2014 and will star Chloë Moritz, Christina Hendricks, Nicholas Hoult and Charlize Theron.

If you haven’t yet read any of Gillian Flynn’s novels then get to it before the movies are released. Expect to be on the edge of your seat…and possibly needing to sleep with the light on!

Hilary Duff has split with her husband of three years, Mike Comrie. The 26-year-old and the former ice hockey player are parents to one-year-old cutie, Luca.

On her Twitter account, the actress and singer said; “Mike and I are sitting here, we are so appreciative for all your support and well wishes. Not an easy day but we’re getting thru it together”.

A spokesperson for the couple also released the following statement; “They remain best friends and will continue to be in each other’s lives. They are dedicated to loving and parenting their amazing son, and ask for privacy at this time”.

Not an easy time at all for any family, but it is good to see they are putting their son first and will remain close.
