Our parents and boyfriends might think we’re cray-cray when we spend approximately 37 minutes trying to nail down the perfect flick in our winged eyeliner, but they haven’t seen nothin’ if they think that beauty regime is unusual.

Here are just five of the most bizarre beauty rituals from around the globe.

Snail face: China

When people in a snail farm in China realised that their hands were super-smooth and oh-so-soft, the clever kids put two and two together and decided that the snail secretions might just have something to do with it.

These snail secretions are now used in gels, creams and anti-aging cosmetics.

Bum facial: United States

We’re no stranger to a facial or two (OK, fine, we get one once a year when our wallets allow), but some girls don’t just stop at facials which tends to their T- zone.

Bum facials are no big deal, especially in the States. The treatment involves a therapist cleansing, exfoliating, massaging and moisturising…your arse.

Bull barnet: Great Britain

Hari’s Salon in London used to offer a particular treatment to tame client’s frizzy or unmanageable hair. The treatment didn’t involve any old hair masque either, oh no. This luxurious treatment, girls, included the use of bull’s semen.

We’ll stick to a straightener when we need to tame our frizz, we think.

Vampire facial: United States

This gory facial involves drawing blood from the face and then re-injecting it into the skin after it’s been separated into platelets.

Why not just keep it all in there to begin with?!

Bird poo facials: Japan

The clue is in the name, ladies. The treatment involves using a powder on the face which contains songbird poo, a substance which is said to be rich in amino acids.

You’re grand. We’ll just stick to our 1.99 facewipes, thanks.

Show this list to the next person who dares question your pampering process.

This woman just got served!

We're all guilty of being a little picky when it comes to choosing the right guy, but we hope we'd never be as fickle as this woman who posted to a forum asking for advice on how to find a man with a "$500k annual salary."

Luckily, one clever man threw some serious shade with the perfect reply!

The woman's post began: "I’m going to be honest of what I’m going to say here. I’m 25 this year. I’m very pretty, have style and good taste. I wish to marry a guy with $500k annual salary or above. You might say that I’m greedy, but an annual salary of $1M is considered only as middle class in New York. My requirement is not high. Is there anyone in this forum who has an income of $500k annual salary? Are you all married? I wanted to ask: what should I do to marry rich persons like you?"

What we really love though, is this amazing reply from a man claiming to be the CEO of banking and finance company JP Morgan:

"Dear Ms. Pretty,

I have read your post with great interest. Guess there are lots of girls out there who have similar questions like yours. Please allow me to analyse your situation as a professional investor.

My annual income is more than $500k, which meets your requirement, so I hope everyone believes that I’m not wasting time here. From the standpoint of a business person, it is a bad decision to marry you. The answer is very simple, so let me explain.

Put the details aside, what you’re trying to do is an exchange of “beauty” and “money” : Person A provides beauty, and Person B pays for it, fair and square.

However, there’s a deadly problem here, your beauty will fade, but my money will not be gone without any good reason. The fact is, my income might increase from year to year, but you can’t be prettier year after year.

Hence from the viewpoint of economics, I am an appreciation asset, and you are a depreciation asset. It’s not just normal depreciation, but exponential depreciation. If that is your only asset, your value will be much worse 10 years later.

By the terms we use in Wall Street, every trading has a position, dating with you is also a “trading position”.

If the trade value dropped we will sell it and it is not a good idea to keep it for long term – same goes with the marriage that you wanted. It might be cruel to say this, but in order to make a wiser decision any assets with great depreciation value will be sold or “leased”.

Anyone with over $500k annual income is not a fool; we would only date you, but will not marry you. I would advice that you forget looking for any clues to marry a rich guy. And by the way, you could make yourself to become a rich person with $500k annual income. This has better chance than finding a rich fool.

Hope this reply helps.

signed,
J.P. Morgan CEO

She may be going from strength to strength with her career, but poor Rita Ora is not having so much luck in the love department, it seems.

The singer is reported to have split from boyfriend Ricky Hilfiger, the son of designer Tommy, after a six month romance.

While the couple had no shortage of drama during their short relationship, it seems that there is no bad feeling between the pair.

A source told the Daily Mirror: “Rita is so busy she is just flat out at the moment. Realistically, she doesn’t have time for a steady relationship. It’s not acrimonious – they just sort of drifted apart.”

“As much as she liked Ricky, her career is her priority at the moment, while he’s working on his own album,” the source added.

The couple set tongues wagging at photographer Mario Testino’s 60th birthday back in October, after rapper Ricky reportedly got into an altercation with a fellow guest at the exclusive event. Rita was said to have been mortified by the incident, which played out in front of many of the fashion world’s top stars.

Judging from the Instagram photos of her dancing around in a red dress, it doesn’t look like Rita is too upset over the split.

TOWIE star Maria Fowler has certainly had a rough week. The 28-year-old is currently recovering from a vicious attack she suffered on a night out last weekend, which left her bloody and bruised.

Although she seems to be recovering well, Maria took to Twitter last night to show that she refuses to be taken advantage of while she is in a vulnerable state.

The model sent a tweet directed at a mystery person, which said, "Don't you dare try coming back into my life now when you think I am weak."

It has not been confirmed who the message was referring to, but fans believe Maria may have been lashing out at Josie Cunningham, who sent a fairly controversial tweet to Maria earlier in the day.

Josie – whose claim to fame was her state-funded boob job – tweeted a number of celebrities to ask them to donate money to help a young boy with cerebral palsy.

Asking for help from Maria, she said, "@MariaFowler you've been harsh to me, and I've seen you been bashed but please RT this," including a link to the donation page.

Poor Maria wasn't the only one to get insulted on Josie's rampage – she also targeted Myleene Klass, calling her a b**ch.

Not exactly the best way to inspire the spirit of giving!

Despite her angry outburst, Maria seems to be physically recovering well from the attack – though she did mention last night that it was a painful process:

We hope she's doing okay!

It's been a whirlwind few months for TOWIE couple Chloe Sims and Elliott Wright, but they seem to be back on track, if this latest event is anything to go by.

The couple called time on their relationship in October, after a blazing row in which Chloe accused Elliott of sleeping with another woman.

However the pair reuinted during last week's TOWIE Christmas special, and last night they were all loved up as they gathered to celebrate Elliott's 34th birthday.

The Essex couple hosted a party at Sheesh restaurant in Chigwell, where they were joined by friends including Jasmin Walia, James Lock, Danielle Armstrong, Jessica Wright and Ferne McCann.

Chloe tweeted her excitement earlier in the day, saying, "Happy 34th birthday to my handsome boyfriend @elliottwright_ can't wait for @SheeshChigwell tonight."

The couple also headed off for a birthday shopping trip in East London that afternoon.

Despite their quick reunion, it seems the couple still have a lot of things to work through. After their break-up, Elliott opened up about the difficulty of merging their two families when they first became a couple. Chloe has a nine year old daughter named Maddie, while Elliott has two children aged seven and four.

"Chloe’s not had a proper relationship for eight years and she lets Maddie in her bed so, when I used to stay there, Maddie felt a bit pushed out," Elliott told OK! magazine shortly after the split.

We hope they can work things out!

We all know the standard relationship 'firsts'; the first date, the first 'sleepover', the first time you call him your boyfriend, but what about the the smaller 'firsts' which are a little less exciting and a lot more awkward?

Yeah, there's way more of them isn't there, girls?

If you've struggled through the majority of the following ten in our list, congratulations; you are now in, what society considers, 'a serious relationship'.

A seriously awkward relationship, more like.

1. The first time you said really over-dramatic things and then cried in front of him until your face melted off.

Can you please ignore the trail of snot leading into my mouth?

2. The first time you realise he really isn’t mad on the outfit you’ve chosen.

I'm dating an idiot.

3. The first time you discuss Christmas present budgets.

There should be no mathematical figure on your love for me, sir.

4. The first time you go to the bathroom and he’s not three rooms away.

Ehm, can you get under the bed, no UNDER it, and put some earphones in please?

5. The first time you see each other dance.

WHAT is that? No seriously, WHAT is that he’s doing?

6. The first time you put on a full face of make-up in front of him.

Ehm yeah, the first 17 products are the reason you asked me on date two, playa.

7. The first time you see how he behaves with his parents.

I sometimes forget you’re actually just a boy who has a mum who loves him and now I feel weird.

8. The first time you have a serious row.

These are ACTUALLY tears of anger, not sorrow, you insensitive, patronising moron.

9. The first time you get period on his bed sheets.

I think someone’s time of the month has arrived and it’s not…oh no wait…it IS mine. My bad.

10. The first time you realise you love him.

It's nothing, I’m just a slave to my emotions and his jawline.

Singer Ashlee Simpson and husband Evan Ross must be looking forward to a joyful Christmas, as it's been revealed they are expecting their first child together.

Making the adjustment to parenthood won't be too much trouble for the pair, as Ashlee already has one son, 6-year-old Bronx, from her first marriage to Pete Wentz.

She and Evan got married in August of this year in Greenwich, Connecticut, at the home of Evan's mother, Supremes singer Diana Ross.

Although the couple have yet to make a statement regarding the happy news, Evan recently spoke about his desire to start a big family with his new wife. When asked if he was interested in having kids, the Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 star told Us Weekly, "I would love to… As many as possible."

It's been a big year for the couple. Having only met in the summer of 2013, Ashlee and Eric were together for just over six months before he popped the question at the beginning of 2014. Reflecting on the last twelve months in a recent interview, Eric said, "I got married, I have new music and I'm part of Hunger Games. It's been a great year."

Well, we reckon 2015 will be even more exciting for the expectant parents!

We really love when Hollywood acknowledges how truly glorious us women are.

Whether it's physical power or spiritual strength, women have it in spades and it's fantastic when the movie execs remember this from time to time.

We're so used to male actors taking the lead that when a female lead steals the show, everyone sits up and takes notice.

Here are just five of the strongest female leads in history

Erin Brockovich

Julia Roberts played Erin Brockovich, in the film of the same name which told the story of a woman who fought against an energy corporation and won. Based on real life events, Julia’s portrayal of Erin’s strength, resolve and determination garnered worldwide praise.

Skeeter Phelan

Emma Stone’s portrayal of Skeeter Phelan in the 2011 hit film The Help was superb. The college graduate and aspiring writer decided to expose the injustices faced by African- American maids in 1960’s America and put her own life in danger as a result of her bravery.

Katniss Everdeen

The protagonist in the Hunger Games was a massive Hollywood nod to the strength that women possess. Jennifer Lawrence’s portrayal of the courageous and independent Katniss Everdeen reminded everyone that strong, powerful characters aren’t unique to male leads.

Clarice Starling

Jodie Foster played FBI cadet Clarice Starling in 1991 thriller The Silence of the Lambs and although appearing vulnerable at times, she never allowed her fear, concerns or reservations get in the way of her goals. Brave beyond all imagination, Jodie had the honour of playing one of the strongest female leads in movie history.

Lisbeth Salander

Played by Rooney Mara, Lisbeth Salander is a computer hacker in 2011 Swedish-American movie The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, who helps a journalist investigate the disappearance of a young woman forty years previously. Feisty, independent and fiercely intelligent, Rooney nailed the strong female lead.

Vocalist for American rock duo The White Stripes, Jack White, did something ten years ago that is only coming to light now and it is pretty epic!

Before hitting the big time, Jack worked as a furniture upholster, but continuously pursued his interest in music by writing and recording in his spare time.

The 39-year-old musician recorded a single with his fellow upholster and mentor Brian Muldoon under the name The Upholsters and then hid some of them inside pieces of furniture in 2004. And two have only just been discovered!

In an effort to celebrate his friend and mentor’s time in the upholstery trade, the quirky singer/songwriter actually stitched 100 copies of their track, Your Furniture Was Always Dead… I Was Just Afraid to Tell You, inside an assortment of furniture they were working on at the time. Jack, however, was understandably uncertain as to whether they would ever be discovered!

Well, the little prankster doesn’t have to wonder anymore because Third Man Records has released a statement, saying: “Recently Third Man Records has been made aware of the discovery of two different copies found by two separate individuals of the 2nd single by The Upholsterers.”

So now there’s only NINETY EIGHT left to discover!

Ooh, that man loves to keep us on our toes!

We assumed that Kim and Kanye would be over the moon at the thought of their first Christmas together as a married couple. Well, how wrong were we!?

The pair, who got married in Italy in May, can’t compromise with each other about where to spend their Christmas Day so it looks like they’ll be spending it apart.

Kanye isn’t particularly interested in the annual Christmas Eve party that his mother-in-law Kris is throwing and insiders have said: “Kanye just isn’t feeling it this year.”  Jeez.

The 37-year-old rapper has made it clear that he would rather spend the holiday in Paris with Kim and North so that he can continue working over the festive season, but that was met with major negativity.

A source commenting on the issue revealed that feisty Kim put her foot down and insisted that North will be celebrating with her extended family and said: “Kim absolutely refuses to even consider spending Christmas in Paris. She has said there will be no way North would be away from the cousins.”

Either way, it doesn't look like North will get to spend the special day with both her parents, something which will be hard for the gorgeous toddler.

Deciding not to spend your first Christmas together as a married couple isn’t exactly a good sign for the future of the relationship, is it?

There's a little bit of a control freak in all of us, whether it's a "quirky" (read: bizarre) cleaning habit or a hatred of odd numbers.

Here are a few signs you're a little bit OCD (just a little, don't panic)…

1. Basic grammar mistakes fill you with inexplicable rage
"YOU'RE". NOT "YOUR".

2. This pavement haunts your dreams
Why would anyone do something so sick and messed up?

3. You'll make the bed your way, thank you very much
"Oh… that looks perfect, I'll just fix this bit… and this bit… and this bit"

4. Situations like this make your eyes twitch
Oh dear God, no.

5. You can't resist fixing things in other people's houses
You know it's not YOUR crooked picture, but that's no reason to leave it like that.

6. You want to grab this cake and run away with it before it's tainted any further
Please, just stop.

7. Odd numbers make you anxious
Why would anyone set their alarm for 7.49am when they could set it for 7.50am? *shudders*

8. Food touching other food creeps you out
Except for a basic sandwich situation which is okay… usually. But not this. Definitely not this.

The Fault in Our Stars actor, Ansel Elgort, has taken to Twitter to talk about what it means to be gay and to clear up a few issues.

It seems certain corners of the media have been speculating recently about the 20-year-old actor’s sexual orientation, something which Ansel, understandably, felt he was the only one who should have the right to comment on.

Using his Twitter account to set the record straight yesterday, the Divergent star said: “Just in case it isn’t clear…I like girls. A lot.”

The actor had been dating his high school sweetheart up until a few months ago when conflicting schedules meant they had to call time on their romance, but it seems the split fuelled reports and rumours which Ansel wanted to address.

Upon making his sexual preference known (not that he should have had to), the actor then went on to say: “Also let me say if I was gay, I wouldn’t hide it. Being gay or straight isn’t bad or good, it just IS. You are who you are. Be true to yourself.”

Very well said Ansel!
