Coca-Cola is bringing back its hugely successful Designated Driver campaign this year in order to encourage the nation to give the 'Gift of a Lift this' December.

The campaign will offer free soft drinks to any drivers who stay sober to bring their loved ones home safely throughout Christmas; what a fab way to motivate us.

The Road Safety Authority and Coca-Cola HBC Ireland are joining forces to keep our roads safe, especially during a time where the pubs are full of people celebrating the season.

Over the last 14 years, over €7 million has been invested by Coca-Cola into the campaign to promote road safety, and have rewarded countless Christmas heroes who helped their friends and families get to where they needed to go.

The role of the Designated Driver can be a tedious one, but it's never worth the alternative. Getting yourself and your close friends and family home is the perfect way to give to them this Christmas.

An Garda Síochána, the Road Safety Authority and Drinkaware are all supporters of the campaign, which has local and national heroes such as GAA stars as its representatives.

Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport Shane Ross said;

“For many people, December will be a month of celebration; the way to ensure that the season remains festive is to plan ahead…so please, don’t drink and drive, instead travel with a designated driver and ensure you and your loved ones all get to 2019 safely.”

Any Designated Drivers can visit www.DesignatedDriver.ie to download a voucher for two free soft drinks, which can be presented at over 1000 pubs across Ireland. Otherwise they can simply make themselves known to bar staff.

I can think of a good few people who will be wanting the 'Gift of a Lift' this year, that's for sure.

There are just four days to go until the American football extravaganza that is the Super Bowl, but we're always more interested in the ads (and the half-time show) than the actual game.

Budweiser generally goes all out for its Super Bowl ads, but this year they've taken a different slant.

Rather than promote beer-drinking to viewers, they're instead warning people of the dangers of not drinking and driving. And in a genius move, they've employed Helen Mirren to get their message across.

"Hello, I'm Helen Mirren, a notoriously frank and uncensored British lady," she begins.

"If you drive drunk you – simply put – are a short-sighted, utterly useless, oxygen-wasting human form of pollution."

Tell us how you really feel, Helen.

The ad is part of Budweiser's #GiveADamn campaign, which is urging drinkers to never drive while under the influence.

A wedding in Sydney this weekend took a rather unexpected turn.

According to local station 9News a wedding guest, fuelled by alcohol and cannabis, tried to the wedding… but crashing into the bridal party.

By all accounts, Tenille Eyles and Adam Bradley's nuptials started off beautifully at Camden's Harrington Grove Country Club in Sydney.

However, over the course of the ceremony a fight broke out between some of the wedding guests.

Warren Donovan, the wedding photographer on duty at the time, said that at first and amid the confusion, most of the other attendees were confused as to what was going on – hence Warren continued shooting photographs.

He explained, however, that suddenly he spotted someone driving at high speed in a car towards the crowd.

After reaching the first gathering, the individual in question next reversed into a second crowd of wedding-goers – despite serveral attempts to take the keys from the ignition.

"When he took off the second time that's when he came straight towards us and we jumped out of the way," Warren also told 9News.

Australian police said afterwards that the suspect is a 55-year-old man who was the new partner of a relative. Following his arrest, the man was charged with drink and dangerous driving, as well as possession of cannabis.

He is due in court on September 29.

Thankfully, no one was injured in the incident.

Lindsay Lohan’s mum has been ordered to perform 100 hours of community service for a drink-driving charge.

Dina Lohan pleaded guilty in New York to the charge of driving while under the influence of alcohol.

During her court appearance yesterday, the star’s mum also pleaded guilty to speeding.

Police said 50-year-old Dina was driving 77mph in a 55mph zone when she was arrested on September 12th in Oyster Bay.

They said her blood alcohol level was more than double the legal limit.

The mum of the troubled actress is expected to be sentenced on June 3rd to a conditional discharge and 100 hours of community service.

Dina’s lawyer Mark Heller blamed the paparazzi for the incident.

He said, “It is the professional opinion, as stated here by the evaluator, that the circumstances leading to Dina’s arrest were largely impacted by ongoing daily stresses caused by you folks, the paparazzi, media attention and distorted tabloid character profiles.”

27-year-old Lindsay had reportedly predicted in the past that her mum would be arrested for a drink-driving offence.
