Helen Mirren might be 70-years-old but the Oscar-winning actress proved she’s far from old-fashioned this weekend when she openly praised Kim Kardashian’s bum.

In an interview with The Sunday Telegraph's Stella magazine, the Dame said that while she’s not an avid fan of Keeping Up with the Kardashians she does respect Kim for her part in redefining modern beauty standards.

She said: “I’m not into the Kardashians, it’s a phenomenon I just don’t find interesting…But – and this is the big word: B-U-T-T – it’s wonderful that you’re allowed to have a butt nowadays! Thanks to Madame Kardashian, and before her, J-Lo.”

“We’re also allowed to have thighs now, which is great too.  It’s very positive,” she added.

The actress also praised a number of well-known faces for their part in expanding what is seen as acceptable behaviour for women and even expressed her love for “shameless women”.

She said: "Women were controlled by being shamed, so I love women who have claimed their own bodies: Madonna, Chrissie Hynde, Joan Jett, Bonnie Raitt.”

“I love Pussy Riot more than anything in the world. They all raise their middle fingers to this epithet of 'slut'.  They wear what they want to wear, behave as they want to behave.”

When you're like I have nothing to wear LOL

Back in March Kim Kardashian sparked a whole lot of controversy when she posted a nude selfie on Instagram.

She later said she found the decision to post the photo empowering and that through doing so she hoped to encourage all women to feel empowered.

While her plan might not have pleased everyone, it certainly seems to have worked for Helen.

There are just four days to go until the American football extravaganza that is the Super Bowl, but we're always more interested in the ads (and the half-time show) than the actual game.

Budweiser generally goes all out for its Super Bowl ads, but this year they've taken a different slant.

Rather than promote beer-drinking to viewers, they're instead warning people of the dangers of not drinking and driving. And in a genius move, they've employed Helen Mirren to get their message across.

"Hello, I'm Helen Mirren, a notoriously frank and uncensored British lady," she begins.

"If you drive drunk you – simply put – are a short-sighted, utterly useless, oxygen-wasting human form of pollution."

Tell us how you really feel, Helen.

The ad is part of Budweiser's #GiveADamn campaign, which is urging drinkers to never drive while under the influence.

Helen Mirren caught everyone’s attention last night as she stepped on to the red carpet of the Tony Awards.

The 69-year-old wore a white embellished floor length gown with flowing sheer sleeves as she attended the awards ceremony which took place in New York’s Radio City Music Hall.

She was nominated for best actress for playing the Queen in Broadway transfer of The Audience. This role has already seen her win an Oliver Award for the London production, and an Oscar for portraying the Queen on the big screen.

It was a night to celebrate for Helen as she won the prize for her role as Queen Elizabeth II and looked amazing while collecting her award.

Dame Helen, posed for snappers on the red carpet in New York last night with her husband by her side and warded off competition from Mad Men star Elisabeth Moss and Geneva Carr who had also been nominated.

The actress and her husband, playfully showed their affection for each other on the red carpet and have been married for 20 years.

Her glitzy earrings and bag added to the overall elegance of this flawless attire as Helen took to the stage to accept her award from the gorgeous Bradley Cooper.

British actors and plays dominated this year's Tony's, known as America's top honour for work in theatre.

So it seems like Blake Lively has resigned herself to the notion that husband Ryan Reynolds may never just have eyes for her and it looks like she's OK with that.

Taking to social media to comment on her husband's 'wandering eyes', the Gossip Girl star appears understanding of Ryan's lovestruck glance at screen icon, Helen Mirren.

We're not sure every wife would be as understanding, but it looks like Blake's on the same page as her husband when it comes to the gorgeous Helen.

Sharing a snap of her daughter James' dad and his co-star on Instagram, Blake wrote: "Should I be concerned that my husband's never looked at me this way? #WhereAreThoseEyesWanderingReynolds #HelenMirrenIStheSexiestWomanAlive #WomanInGold."

Blake's husband has made no secret of his admiration for the Oscar-winning star, having recently gushed abut the Woman In Gold actress.

Opening up about his co-star, Ryan revealed: "She's just hysterical, and has no filter in the best possible way. She's as humble as you'd hope someone in her position could possibly be, and she's one of those magnetic personalities."

Perhaps defending his own flirtations with the 69-year-old actress, Ryan stressed: "Everybody who meets with her flirts with her. I don't care who you are – guy, girl, fat, skinny, tall, short, gay, straight – everybody flirts with Helen Mirren."

He's got a point, we'd definitely flirt with her given half the chance.

The BAFTA’s were held last night and the style from the night was either very good – or disatrous (we’re looking at you Lily Allen).

Our best dressed stars of the evening managed to maintain classic looks – clean cuts and muted colours were the winners of the night for us!

Helen Mirren, who was presented with a BAFTA Fellowship looked stunning in a long-sleeve black dress with a tulle ending.

Les Misérables star, Samantha Barks, enhanced her gorgeous silhouette in a simple cream gown with a demure side slit.

Everyone’s favourite talk-show host, Oprah Winfrey looked amazing in a mulberry-coloured Stella McCartney number with a long-sleeve lace top and a satin bow around the waist.

Angelina Jolie was the talk of the evening, fashion wise, as she embraced an androgynous and classic look in a monochrome suit – we love it!
