Shane Dawson has issued a lengthy apology after fans accused him of joking about paedophilia in an unearthed podcast recorded six years ago.

Fans of the YouTube star were left furious after Pop Blast posted a edited audio clip in which the 29-year-old made controversial comments about meeting a six-year-old girl with over 100,000 followers on Instagram.

"I said OK, why do you have so many followers? And she said, 'Oh I’m a cheerleader' Oh really? And she shows me her Instagram which are like… First of all, I don’t know if I’m allowed to say this, but she’s like sexy," he said in the podcast.

Shane, who's YouTube channel has over 11 million subscribers, then went on to explain his “justification for paedophilia,” describing it as a “fetish” that some people have.

"Here’s my justification for paedophilia – people have foot fetishes, people have fetishes about everything, that’s fine, do your thing," he says.

"So why is it when somebody looks at and Googles like ‘naked baby’ on Google and jerks off to it, they can get arrested? I don’t understand that."

Needless to say, the viral clip garnered huge backlash, prompting the internet star to issue an apology.

"I am not a f**king pedophile!,” Shane said in a video uploaded on Wednesday.

"I loved the feeling of making somebody shocked and laugh because they couldn't believe what was coming out of my mouth. I wasn't confident enough to make smarter jokes. I was making the easy jokes,” he continued

"I was playing crazy stereotypical characters. I was doing sh*t that was racially insensitive, I was doing sh*t that was homophobic, I was doing shit that could be considered fat shaming, I was doing some f**ked up comedy stuff that I'm not proud of.”

Shane, who is known for his controversial content, insists that he has “changed so much as a person and as a creative” since the time of the recording.

"The stuff that I was saying back in those times I would never say now. Ever. Because I don't think that's funny. Listening to that clip now, I didn't laugh."

"I didn't think it was funny. But when you hear that clip, you hear my co-host laughing, which was my goal. I wanted to always make her shocked and laugh. That was our thing."

Love Island was one of the most-watched shows of 2017.

You simply couldn't move on Twitter without seeing some reference to the holiday romance TV phenomenon.

In case you missed out, the premise of the show sees a number of singleons pairing off to take home the Love Island crown and a cool  £50,000 prize money.

While many people delighted in the various adventures and dramas of the show participants, others felt that it could do with a little more diversity.

ITV2 faced criticism for not having gay or lesbian couples on the show, after previously saying that it could not work due to the show 'format.'

'The format doesn’t really allow it,' ITV's Head of Digital Channels Paul Mortimer said in a previous statement.

A post shared by Love Island (@loveisland) on

'If you’re familiar with the programme, it’s about coupling and recoupling.'

'To complicate it with same-sex relationships is to take something away from the format.'

However, a source told The Star that an LGBTQ version of the show could be in the works.

'Love Island is supposed to be a reflection of pop culture and shows modern dating,' said the source.

'Young people are becoming more and more fluid in their sexuality and gender identity, so the channel have realised they can't alienate that audience, either.'

We may just have to wait and see what the new series of the show brings us.

For some women, white lace gloves conjure little more than hazy memories of their Communion Day – a style move they don't intend repeating.

For others, the vintage element that a pair of gloves lends to a bride's look makes them a hugely sought after item.

But what design should you go for? Lace, pearl, long, short; the list is endless.

If you're toying with the idea of including gloves in your look for the big day, but have yet to settle on a style, why not cast your eye over the best that Instagram has to offer.

They're not for everyone, but hey, it's worth a look, right?

1. Bold, but delicate.

2.  With a hint of diamanté.

3. Opting for the longer look.

Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep are breaking the Internet today with their versions of each other's best film roles.

The pair of iconic actors will be featuring together in upcoming film The Post, and were on the show to detail their upcoming roles.

However, in typical Ellen fashion, the talk show host offered them the opportunity to put their own spin on each other's stand-out roles.

Meryl named Tom's lead role in Forrest Gump as her favourite performance of his, and gave a pretty epic rendition of his famous line: 'Life is like a box of chocolates.'

Tom then gave Meryl's role as Miranda Priestly in The Devil Wears Prada a shot, and his version was uncanny, albeit emphasised.

Donning a wig, he then delivered her icon lines from The Iron Lady.

Every January we tell ourselves that this is the year we're going to finally get fit, and every January we fail miserably.

Why, we hear you ask?

Well, if you're anything like us, you'll know that all those good intentions tend to vanish into thin air when you remember just how lazy you actually are.

Whether you're moaning about the weather or can't find your favourite gym shoes, you'll always find a way to back out of a workout – until now.

It's time to stop the excuses and let these simple fitness hacks get you back on track.

1. Get ready the night before

Admit it – how many times have you spent the morning pulling apart your bedroom in search of your left gym shoe, only to convince yourself that the spin class you booked into wasn't that important anyway.

Preparation is key when it comes fitness, and packing your gym bag the night before is one of the easiest ways to stay on track.

You'll save yourself a whole lot of stress, and hey, you'll even get a few extra minutes in bed.

2. Keep it short

HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) is the perfect workout for anyone lacking in time or motivation – or both for that matter.

These short yet effective workouts combine short bursts of exercise with less intense recovery periods and are generally completed in 20 minutes or less.

3. Exercise at home

Can't face the thoughts of a packed gym? The answer is simple, just don't go.

Find some empty floor space, lay down a yoga mat or towel, and voila – welcome to your own personal temple of fitness.

The internet is full of easy-to-follow fitness videos that require little to no equipment, meaning you can stay in shape from the comfort of your own living room.

4. Reverse count your reps

A simple technique that works by tricking your mind into thinking the workout is more of a reward rather than a task.

Think about it. Counting backwards can make the milestones seem smaller and more achievable, which it turn will make your body work faster and more efficiently.

It's win-win!

5. Don't time yourself

It's important to go easy on yourself when embarking on a new fitness journey.

Don't tell yourself you're going to workout for an hour and a half if deep down you know you'll be a sweaty, red-faced, mess after 45.

Pace yourself and build week on week.

6. Work out during ad breaks

Television ad breaks provide the perfect opportunity to fit in quick workouts.

Planks, yoga poses, squats, lunges, pushups or even running on the spot are all great ways to pass the time between your favourite shows.

It's the perfect way to achieve your fitness goals without ever having to sacrifice too much of your down time.

7. Stay in bed longer

Yep. You read that right.

In order to get the most from your workouts, your body needs to be well rested so it can perform to the best of its ability.

Make sure to get the recommended seven to eight hours per night (even if you have to hit the snooze button a few extra times).

Now would be the time to get yourself checked if you have any suspicions that there might be some odd behaviour happening in your nether regions, because STI numbers in Ireland are on the rise.

New figures from the HSE’s Health Protection Surveillance Centre show that HIV, Syphilis, Gonorrhea, Chlamydia and Herpes have all seen an increase in diagnoses.

Chlamydia remains Ireland's most wide-spread sexually transmitted infection, with Gonorrhea and Herpes following in second and third place.

Chlamydia cases have risen from 6247 in 2016 to 6896 in 2017, and it's maintaining it's top spot on the STI charts.

Symptoms of the disease include abnormal vaginal discharge and a burning sensation when urinating, and can impact fertility if left untreated.

However, it is completely curable.

Gonorrhea on the other hand has seen an increase of 18.6pc.

Gonorrhoea is a bacterial infection that can be treated and cured with specific antibiotics, according to the HSE.

The symptoms include yellowish or greenish-white vaginal discharge, itching and burning or pain when peeing.

Herpes is also on the rise, with an increase of 19.6pc.

Syphilis has seen a dramatic increase of 50.4pc. Symptoms include genital sores, flu-like symptoms and muscle aches.

69pc of those with STIs were aged under 30, according to the report.

To protect yourself from STIs, make sure to use condoms during every sexual encounter, and avail of free, regular STI screenings.

For decades, sexual harassment and misconduct pervaded the entertainment industry, and for decades those involved and those effected maintained a silence.

The people responsible relied on the unwilling silence and reluctant compliance of their victims, and for decades, they got it.

This all changed in 2017, however, when The New Yorker exposed the years of abuse, assault and harassment dozens of women experienced at the hands of movie mogul Harvey Weinstein.

And with that, the floodgates opened.

As more and more men were called out, more and more women came forward with their stories of abuse – revelations which acted as the catalyst for social movements including #MeToo and #TimesUp.

The latest in a horrifyingly long line of women is model Ashley Graham, who recalled a moment which has haunted her since it took place at the age of 17.

“I was shooting a big campaign and a photo assistant said, ‘Come here. I wanna talk to you,”  Ashley, who is now 30, told The View during her appearance on the popular show yesterday.

"He lured me into this hallway, pushed me into a closet,” she continued. “He exposed himself and he said, look at what you did to me all day long, now touch it. And I freaked out."

Visibly emotional, Ashley continued: "I ran out of the closet and I just prayed that no one would find out."

As a teenager, Ashley feared for both her career and reputation within the industry, and ultimately protected the man who attempted to violate her.

"I thought, if they found out he did that to me, I’m never going to get hired for a job again. I’m going to be the difficult model and nobody’s going to want to work with me if they know that something like that happened," she told her fellow panellists.

"If I knew what I know now, and knew that all of these women were standing up and saying 'me too', I would have smacked that guy and said' he's a paedophile' because I was 17," she reminded the audience.

Ashley is adamant that the movement is working. and that unity in women's voices serves to protect 'their sisters on set'.

Between busy lifestyles, hectic working schedules and whatever kind of social life we can squeeze in between, getting our recommended amount of shut-eye can sometimes feel like the ultimate struggle.

At this stage we've mastered the art of masking our exhaustion and giving off the impression that we're fully functioning human beings – and while this is definitely not the healthiest routine to fall into, we've managed to make it work (kind of).

However, it might be time to forget everything you thought you knew about a good night's kip, because according to one expert, a consistent wake time is far more important than the amount of time spent in bed.

Speaking to Whimm, Dr Carmel Harrington explained the importance of exposing our brains to bright lights after waking up.

"Most people don't know that the time you get up in the morning affects the time you will be able to fall asleep that night… When we see bright light in the morning our brain switches off the production of melatonin and it is this off-switching that actually sets up our 24-hour body clock," she said.

Not only can getting up at the same time every morning make your sleep more effective, it can also positively affect hunger, motivation and efficiency during the day.

"As our getting up time plays a role in what time we are ready to sleep that night, a regular wake up time is probably more important… For this reason it's recommended that you don't vary your wake-up time by more than an hour."

Consistency is key, ladies.

Part of what makes world of Harry Potter so immersive and distinct is the language that JK Rowling developed to embellish the stories and lives of the characters we know and love.

The iconic author created an entire dictionary of words that are unique to the wizarding world, made up entirely by Rowling's imagination with a little help from Latin and folklore.

As you might have realised if you read the books first before watching the movies, some of the words and phrases read quite differently to how they are spoken.

A prime example is Voldemort, which is pronounced with a hard 't', even in the films.

However, Rowling revealed that she intended the 't' to be silent, and for Voldemort to be with the soft, French pronunciation of 'mor,' without the 't' sound.

Along with He Who Must Not Be Named, there are quite a few other words outlined by Pottermore, which are mispronounced on the regular.

Hermione is one, as it seems that much like Victor Krum, we readers were baffled by the name which is derived from Greek mythology.

As we're all aware by now, her name is pronounced  ‘Her-my-oh-nee,' rather than 'Her-me-own.'

In keeping with the mispronounced names theme, centaur Firenze also had us confused – apparently it's pronounced 'Fee-renzy,' and is an Italian name.

When it comes to wizarding finance, the money increments discussed in the books are galleons, sickles and knuts, and it's the humble copper knuts which seem to have us tongue tied.

We assumed that knuts was pronounced with a silent 'k', but alas, we were wrong – it's actually pronounced ka-nuts.' Baffling.

Next up we have a few spells and potion ingredients, the names of which were more befuddling than the magic they evoked.

If you fancied conjuring the Dark Mark, Morsmordre was the incantation for you.  While we always enjoyed the delicious word 'smore' being wedged in the middle, it doesn't get used in pronunciation – it's actually a bit of a tongue twister and is pronounced 'mores-more-druh.'

Whether Snape is grilling you about Potions trivia or Ron needs to be saved from unintentional poisoning, the bezoar is the unexpected star of the Harry Potter series.

Luckily, this goat-derived ingredient is pronounced much like it it reads, 'bee-zore.'

Lastly, we have Amortentia, the most powerful love potion known to man (either Muggle or wizard).

We're sure Romilda Vane knows this one off the top of her head, but this powerful little potion is pronounced 'Amore-ten-tia' rather than 'Amore-ten-sheeah.'

Now we're in the mood for a Harry Potter marathon…

It seems as though everywhere we look, there is a new restaurant or bar popping up in lovely Dublin.

From groovy cocktail bars, to luxury restaurants, this fine capital City really is buzzing at the moment!

One of the latest additions to the restaurant scene is Urchin, Dublin’s hottest new beach-inspired cocktail bar located on Stephen’s Green directly below the Cliff Townhouse.

Naturally, when we heard about this new spot (and saw the AMAZING decor) we decided to go and check it out.

A breath of fresh air with a relaxed seaside vibe and bright friendly atmosphere, the fabulous Urchin is about creative and fun drinks with innovative small bites.

It is the PERFECT spot for a catch-up with friends or colleagues for pre-dinner drinks and snacks.

When we arrived, we strolled down the stairs into a beachy wonderland, so much so, we actually forgot that we were right in the middle of the City.

The staff were super friendly (but not in an annoying way, if that makes sense?), and MY GOD the drinks were divine.

I opted for a ‘Twisted Mermaid’ which literally tastes like a little holiday in a glass, plus, it looked class on my Insta story.

Then came the delicious nibbles – I ordered the scallop ceviche, the pork and the tempura baby artichokes.

I’m salivating at the thought to be honest, they were just so darn tasty!

And the best bit? None of this actually cost me a small fortune, which is a message I can get behind in a major way.

I left feeling super satisfied, as though I’d actually spent a day lounging on a beach somewhere tropical – back up onto Dawson Street, and back to reality.

Urchin is the perfect spot if you feel like ditching reality for an evening!
