The Minister of State, Patrick O'Donovan, has today said that he will not support the proposed repeal of the Eighth Amendment.

According to RTÉ News, the junior minister made the comments ahead of a special Cabinet meeting due to take place tomorrow, where the government is expected to finalise its plans on how to proceed with the upcoming referendum.

Speaking on RTÉ's The Week in Politics, Mr O'Donovan said that while he believes the referendum should go ahead, he will not support a repeal vote.

However, he did say that he would need to wait to see what question is proposed before he could give a definitive answer.

Meanwhile, members of the Social Democrats party are calling on the Attorney General to publish his advice on the wording of the referendum as soon as possible.

"If the Eighth Amendment is repealed, legislation to allow for abortion in certain circumstances will be brought before the Oireachtas."

"It is imperative that there be clarity on the powers of the Oireachtas to legislate based on the decision of the people" said Catherine Murphy, the joint leader of the Social Democrats.

"The Attorney General's advice to the Government on the referendum wording should be published, and subject to rigorous analysis.

While no official date has yet been set, the referendum on the repeal of the Eighth Amendment is expected to take place in May or June of this year.

Have you ever looked at your best friend's meal – be it in a restaurant or at home – and felt practically sick such was the envy that they were about to tuck in?

Well, that isn't just the pangs of hunger talking.

A new UK study has said that those pangs are also jealousy-related; almost half of people have fallen victim to "food envy" – otherwise known as feelings of deep regret that they went for a sub-standard food choice and not what their friend ordered instead.

Think of it as the phase after being 'hangry' kicks in – the unexplained feelings of range when you realise you want to kill someone because you're starving – and you have it.

And the feelings are worse in January, says The Independent, thanks to new findings from JustEat, because so many of us are on diets and trying to turn a new leaf when it comes to our meal choices. Basically, we abstain from eating certain foods rather than eating or ordering what we really want.

The report found that four in 10 usually order the same food as other people simply to avoid feeling food envy and a quarter have changed their order altogether after seeing a friend’s choice.

The study asked for feedback on the most enviable meals – including starters, main courses and desserts – but it was the main meal of the day that caught our eye.

When it comes to the main course, pizza is most likely to leave fellow diners battling the green-eyed-monster along with fish and chips, steak, a hearty cheeseburger and a juicy mixed grill, according to The Independent

The study also said that "falling outs have happened" because someone tried to take food from their plate, and honestly, we're not surprised.

Below are the top ten meals most likely to bring about the green-eyed, food envy monster:

  1. Pizza

  2. Fish and Chips

  3. Sirloin steak

  4. Cheeseburger

  5. Mixed grill

  6. Chicken tikka masala

  7. Fried Chicken

  8. Chow Mein

  9. Rack of ribs

  10. Burritos

We'll take one of each, thanks.

So, growing up we were told how drinking milk would help us grow big and strong, and how eating carrots would make us able to see in the dark – and while the latter may be a slight exaggeration, for the most part, our mums were right.

A nutritious diet is the cornerstone of a healthy lifestyle, the benefits of which stretch far beyond the size of our waist or clearness of our skin.

Certain foods can have positive impacts on brain function and mental health, with new research suggesting that a well-stocked spice rack is good for more than just adding flavour to your favourite dishes.

A new study has found that turmeric, a colourful ingredient often found in curries, could help improve memory and lift your mood.

Curcumin, a chemical found in the popular spice, is being hailed by researchers as an anti-inflammatory with antioxidant properties, which, when consumed regularly, could help those suffering with age-related memory loss and mental health conditions.

“Exactly how curcumin exerts its effects is not certain, but it may be due to its ability to reduce brain inflammation, which has been linked to both Alzheimer's disease and major depression,” said Dr. Gary Small, director of geriatric psychiatry at UCLA's Longevity Center and study author.

For the study, conducted by the University of California Los Angeles and published in the journal American Journal of Geriatric Psychiatry, 40 participants aged between 50 and 90-years-old all presented with mild memory complaints.

The group was then split in two with half assigned 90 milligrams of curcumin twice daily for 18 month, while the other half were given a placebo.

Results showed that those who consumed curcumin saw significant improvement in both memory and mood, with some performing up to 28 per cent better in memory tests.

The study concluded: “These results suggest that taking this relatively safe form of curcumin could provide meaningful cognitive benefits over the years.”

Donald Trump has made some controversial statements in his time, and while we've come to expect nothing less from the President of the United States, his latest admission might just be his most unsurprising yet – he is not a feminist.

Speaking to ITV's Piers Morgan in his first British television interview, Trump said: "I wouldn’t say I’m a feminist."

"I mean, I think that would be, maybe, going too far. I’m for women, I’m for men, I’m for everyone."

"I think people have to go out, they have to go out and really do it, and they have to."

Needless to say, social media users were less than impressed by the President's comments, with many taking to Twitter to express their anger at his blatant admission.

But of course, the news didn't really come as a surprise.

President Trump – The Piers Morgan Interview airs on Sunday on ITV at 10pm.

Al Porter has broken his silence after a patient at a Dublin psychiatric hospital claimed they were groped by the comedian during a charity visit,

Last November, a number of people came forward alleging that the former Today FM DJ had acted inappropriately towards them.

Among these was a young man who said Al had touched and kissed him during a visit to St Patrick's Mental Health hospital in 2015.

A statement form the comic's legal team says he is co-operating fully with inquiries, adding that the star "categorically denies the allegation of criminal wrongdoing."

An investigation was launched after the former patient lodged a complaint and although St Patrick's say they found nothing of concern, the victim has now asked for an outside investigator to be brought in.

A source at the facility told The Sunday Mirror: “You can’t investigate a claim that wasn’t known about – it was made over two years after the alleged incident.

"From a hospital care point of view, we had to ensure we didn’t miss any alarms raised – that all patients were looked after in line with procedure at all times.”

According to reports, the showbiz star, from Tallaght in South Dublin, is estimated to have lost work worth €500,000 since the claims came to light late last year.

Following the release of his second album X, Ed Sheeran was nominated in a number of prestigious categories including Album Of The Year, and even went on the win Song Of The Year for Thinking Out Loud in 2016.

However, this year, Ed's seemingly successful album ÷, failed to scoop any nomination from the 'big three' categories – Song Of The Year, Record Of The Year and Album Of The Year.

He was however nominated in the Best Pop Solo Performance category for Shape Of You and Best Pop Vocal Album for ÷.

Speaking to The Sun, Sir Elton John admitted that he couldn't wrap his head around the omission, insisting that "Shape Of You is probably the most successful single in the whole world last year. That it wasn’t nominated, is, to me, a travesty."

“I’m playing at the Grammys because I’m doing a duet with Miley Cyrus and the Grammys is doing a tribute that’s special to me," he continued.

“But it’s all about politics. I don’t understand it. I never have understood awards shows.”

Ahead of the 60th annual Grammy Awards ceremony tonight, a Care2 petition is calling on artists to boycott E! News on the red carpet.

It comes after bosses failed to address the issue around wage inequality when after Catt Sadler, one of network's best-loved talents, quit her upon learning that her co-anchor, Jason Kennedy, was earning almost twice her salary despite doing the exact same job.

The petition, which urges artists like Lady Gaga, Kesha and Bruno Mars to snub the pre-show interview, has garnered over 17,000 signatures so far.

It argues that E! News is "not taking this seriously at all" and accuses the network of being hypocritical through its support of the #MeToo and #Time;sUp movements.

Catt Sadler, who presented two shows on the entertainment station, Daily Pop and E! News, quit in December after learning of a huge disparity between her and Jason's pay.

“An executive from E! brought something alarming to my attention — namely, that there was a massive disparity in pay between my similarly situated male co-host and myself,” she said at the time.

“More recently, when E! reached out to renew and extend my deal, I learned that he wasn’t just making a little more than I was. In fact, he was making close to double my salary for the past several years.”

Until now we've just known that the series is set to return in 2019, but knowing that it's in spring makes the wait that much easier.

Hopefully production doesn't push back the April premiere date, as often happens with TV programmes.

'There’s a lot that goes into the final edit,"'Maisie noted during the interview. 'You would not want to rush this season at all. We owe it to our audience and our fans to really do this final season to the best of our abilities.'

The show's ending is definitely going to be emotional, Maisie confessed in the interview.

'It’s going to be really odd not seeing the cast regularly. We all get on so well and we are such a tight-knit group,' she said.

In fact, they're so close that the 20-year-old is going to be a bridesmaid in co-star and on-screen sister Sophie Turner's wedding to Joe Jonas.

Between the impending nuptials and the programme's return, it's an exciting time to be a GoT fan.

Everyone wants to stand out from the crowd when they hand in their CV… and as a result, many of us end up using the same words to show just how unique we are when applying for jobs. Pretty ironic.

According to research conducted by LinkedIn, saying that you’re an ‘experienced, enthusiastic, and successful worker’ may not help you land your dream job, as they’re among the 10 most overused words in CVs.

Their analysis drew from the profiles of their world-wide membership, Red reports, including 23 million users in the UK, to see what the most common CV buzzwords are.
