Barbie's the kind of doll that doesn't need a last name.

We've been so familiar with the iconic toy that we always assumed she just didn't have a surname because, well, she's famous enough to get by with just the first name.

Like Britney and Madonna, she can go by the one moniker.

Well, apparently she isn't just 'Barbie' – people were surprised to find out on National Siblings Day that the beloved toy's last name is…

Barbie's full name is Barbara Millicent Roberts, after creator Ruth Handler's daughter Barbara.

Barbie was first introduced in 1959, with the Ken doll joining her in 1961.

Ken, named after Ruth's son Kenneth, actually has a surname as well: Kenneth Carson.

Twitter users were shocked by the fact that their favourite childhood doll actually had a surname.

Yep, we are still trying to cope with this earth-shattering revelation, too.

Also, this is the perfect type of pub quiz type of fact for us to keep in our back pockets.

Did you know Barbie had a last name?

Apparently, people with a the 'sweet tooth gene' have a predisposition to less body fat.

Last year it was discovered that this particular gene variation of FGF21 may be the reason why certain people have cravings for sweet things, and those who have this gene variation tend to eat more sugar.

That's why researchers working at the University of Copenhagen were surprised to find that people with this variation were also predisposed to having less body fat than others.

However, this doesn't mean we can all go out and indulge in sweet treats now. Sad, we know.

'It sort of contradicts common intuition that people who eat more sugar should have less body fat,' one of the study's researchers, Associate Professor Niels Grarup, explained to Science Daily.

'But it is important to remember that we are only studying this specific genetic variation and trying to find connections to the rest of the body.'

'This is just a small piece of the puzzle describing the connection between diet and sugar intake and the risk of obesity and diabetes.'

The variation is connected to slightly higher blood pressure and an 'apple shape', with more fat being around the waist than the hips.

The study, conducted by an international team and headed by researchers from the University of Exeter, used health information from over 450,000 people.

These hundreds of thousands of people allowed their info to be recorded in the UK Biobank, and included pertinent info like questionnaires on diet and genetic data.

'Now that so many people are involved in the study, it gives our conclusions a certain robustness,' Niels stated.

'Even though the difference in the amount of body fat or blood pressure level is only minor depending on whether or not the person has this genetic variation or not, we are very confident that the results are accurate.'

'Around 20 per cent of the European population has this genetic predisposition.'

The researchers said that their findings about the FGF21 gene could also aid in the development of drugs to treat obesity or diabetes.

We all know that royal life is steeped in tradition, from the way they celebrate Christmas to how they announce the birth of a new family member.

Of course, much of that custom comes into play when it comes to the upcoming nuptials of Prince Harry and his bride-to-be, Meghan Markle.

One particular tradition means that Prince Harry can't technically pick William to be his best man.

In fact, Harry won't have a best man at all.

Instead, he, like past royal grooms, will choose 'supporters'.

"The 'best man' or 'best men' are officially called 'supporters'," British and European royalty expert Marlene Koenig explained to Town & Country, "William will probably be Harry's supporter."

Back in 1981, Prince Charles chose his brothers, Andrew and Edward, to be his supporters when the Prince of Wales married Diana.

The Duke of Cambridge, however, broke with tradition when he dubbed Harry his best man, according to The Guardian.

As far as we know, William has not been asked to be his younger brother's supporter or best man – yet.

Considering Harry's tendency to break with tradition, we could see the 33-year-old potentially calling his brother his best man if he chooses Will.

The two are so close it seems likely that Harry will pick his big brother to be there by his side as he marries the love of his life.

Either way, we can't wait until the big day! May 19, here we come!

For Sophie Turner, a.k.a. Sansa from Game of Thrones, being engaged to Joe Jonas takes some getting used to.

“I’m still like, Holy sh*t! I’m engaged," the 22-year-old shared with Marie Claire excitedly.

No matter how much she loves her fiancé though, the English actress confessed that for her, being married will never trump her career.

"There’s this weird misconception that being married is the greatest thing that’ll ever happen to you," Sophie said.

Instead, the award-winning actress says that her career is what brings her fulfilment.

Considering the fact that she first became a member of a theatre company at the age of three, it's no wonder her work is so important to her!

As well, her perspective reflects the mindset of many young people who are delaying getting married, with a focus on their careers being one possible reason for the wait.

"I’ve always found that my career is something I work for, and when I achieve something, there’s a sense that this is the greatest thing I’ll do in my life," the 22-year-old explained.

"It’s lovely to be engaged. Not like I achieved anything, but I found my person, like I’d find a house that I love and want to stay in forever."

I said yes.

A post shared by Sophie Turner (@sophiet) on

It's refreshing how laid-back the TV star is about romance!

Her engagement announcement back in October 2017 felt just as relaxed. Sophie shared a photo on Instagram of her newly-ringed hand and the simple caption, 'I said yes'.

Falling in love with the former Jonas Brothers star has certainly helped her find a new calm.

"There’s a sense of peace that comes with finding your person," Sophie said, "But there’s a drive that comes with your career.”

We love her fiery attitude! Do you share her views on marriage and career pursuits?

So, we have barely reached mid-month, and let's call a spade a spade, most of us are already broke AF.

Every month, we swear that we will be better, but we fall into the same traps.

But a few significant changes come a long when it comes to your budget.

We have identified some key areas where a bit of an effort can really make a difference long term, without completely making you feel miserable.

Coffee

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but your daily latte can cost you up to 750€ a year. That's basically a week of holiday or a designer bag.

While we understand it is pretty essential in your working life, sticking to buying your coffee only twice a week instead of five times can save you up to 400€ a year.

Lunch food

Say you spend on average 8€ a day on lunch food; at the end of the year, it comes up to almost TWO GRANDS.

We are not going to list everything you can do with that money, you get the picture. But we can only advise you to try and bring your own food for lunch as often as possible.

Struggling for inspiration? Just double the portions of dinner to have enough for lunch or click here or here to find tasty recipes.

Phone bills

Love your fancy phone? Of course, we all do, and we couldn't really imagine not owning a smartphone.

But once your contract is up, don't immediately go for the upgrade if your phone is still working well. Switch to prepaid and you can save up to 500€ a year!

Cocktails

We are not telling you to stop going on nights out, but just to have a quick think before you order.

A simple G&T should be no more than 7€, while the fancy cocktails for a few floating berries and flavoured syrups can go up to 12-15€. We'll let you make your own calculation of how much the difference can be over a night.

Entertainment

Instead of cinema and book store, think Netflix and library!

The price of one cinema ticket is usually the same as your Netflix monthly membership and library memberships are usually free.

So try to stick to the cheap night to go to the movie (it's usually Tuesday) and look for the closest library to start borrowing classic gems and new releases.
