Yearly Archives: 2017

When Selena Gomez and Niall Horan were spotted leaving a London hotel together back in December 2015, it's fair to say we all thought they were going to be Celebland's newest hot couple.

Nothing was ever confirmed, but over the last year or so they've been spotted having lunch dates together and getting cosy at award shows, so it's safe to say the rumours never really went away.

But now, Niall has pulled the ultimate lad-move (which is kinda cringy) and has commented on a photo of Selena and her mates from TWO YEARS AGO.

Eagle-eyed fans spotted the Mullingar man post a comment on a pic from January 2015, saying: "Miss you guys. Can't wait to see you all."

Doesn't he know that he can never get away with anything on the Internet?!

So, could this be Nelena 2.0? We certainly hope so.

A waitress working in a restaurant in Virginia made headlines this week when the customers she had been serving acknowledged her hard work, but refused to tip her on the grounds that she is black.

"Great service, don't tip black people," wrote the couple after finishing their meal in Anita's New Mexico restaurant.

Speaking to NBC Washington about the shocking message she received on the bill she provided her customers, Kelly Carter said: "It was just total shock, that’s all I can say."

And while the vast majority of us were left stunned by the story, a worrying number of people accused the National Association for the Advancement of Coloured People of perpetuating 'fake news' when they shared an image of the receipt on their Twitter page.

"This is fake. you should apologize for perpetuating #fakenews and encouraging ugly assumptions about white people." wrote one Twitter user.

"FAKE! You are a bunch of race-baiting hypocrites. She obviously wrote that message herself. Shame on you," added another.

Echoing these sentiments, another member of the public wrote: "I don't believe a racist would state "Great Service". Probably left cash as a tip and this is another story to be debunked."

Reflecting on the couple's attitude towards her, Kelly told the press: "I looked at the receipt three times because I was shocked, because I’ve never been a server and seen that."

"I keep my head up. You have to keep moving. One hateful remark cannot stop me. You’ve got to forgive and forget and move on," she added.

Responding to those who disputed the authenticity of the story, the NAACP tweeted: "We will not apologize for the truth."

Thankfully, a fundraising page has been set up for Kelly in the wake of her experience, and currently stands at €2,778.

Rebecca Ferguson won’t be singing at Trump's inauguration next week after all – PHEW.

The X Factor runner-up said in a statement, released by her management company, “There are many grey areas about the offer for me to perform, that I'm unable to share right now, but I will not be singing.”

The 30-year-old had said she would “graciously” perform at the ceremony, if she could sing Strange Fruit; as she wasn’t “comfortable” with the suggested song choice.

“I felt it was the only song that would not compromise my artistic integrity” she wrote, “As a mother and an artist, I had to defend my stance.”

Strange Fruit was originally written as a poem protesting American racism and the lynching of African Americans.

The Bones singer said, “As somebody who has a lot of love for all people, but has a special empathy as well for African American people and the #blacklivesmatter movement, I wanted to create a moment of pause for people to reflect.”

Rebecca added, “Due to circumstances beyond my control concerning the offer to perform at the Inauguration Concert, I was thrown into the middle of a political arena last week.”

She said, “I believe talent is a gift that should be used to heal the wounds of this world and make the world a better place to live in.”

“Pride and ego is what we need to conquer in this world”, she continued, “I think love and standing firm in love against anything that separates us from each other, can heal us in these troubled times of unrest.”

“I genuinely wish your nation nothing but love.”

Next Friday, Jackie Evancho, a runner-up from the 2010 America's Got Talent will sing the American national anthem at the inauguration ceremony.

It took her a mere six weeks, but Celebrity Big Brother contestant, Bianca Gascoigne, is officially in 'the best shape of her life'.

In the weeks leading up to her participation in the long-running reality television show, the 30-year-old model admits she began to feel the pressure.

"The camera puts 10 lbs on you and I knew that I really needed to get in shape for CBB," she explained.

As the victim of bullying and a sufferer of body dysmorphia, Bianca struggles with her appearance, and knew that the nature of the show would effect her unless she made a concerted effort to overhaul her lifestyle in the weeks leading up to the show's launch.

With the help of an exercise regime and Forza Supplements, Bianca dropped a staggering 19 lbs, slimming down from a size 12 to a lean size 8.

"I have body dysmorphia so I am never going to be entirely happy with the way that I look. It is in my nature to find fault with some aspect of my appearance," Bianca admitted.

"But I am in the best shape of my life and I am as happy as I am ever going to be with my weight and body shape," she added.

Reflecting on her lifestyle, Bianca acknowledged that managing a London lap dancing club helped to contribute to her unhealthy lifestyle.

"My weight has always yo-yoed and it is a lot harder to stay in shape when you are working all night," she explained."

"My diet can be rubbish and it is difficult to summon up the energy to go to the gym when you have been working all night."

Deciding to use her participation in Celebrity Big Brother as a motivator to get her health and wellbeing in check, Bianca said: "I realised that I needed a total body overhaul which is why I was keen to work with the experts from Forza."

"I worked really hard in the six weeks before Celebrity Big Brother to get in fantastic shape."

And, in fairness, she looks amazing.

A beer in the shower? Sure, our mothers would have slated us if she ever saw the likes.

But, it's actually quite popular around the US, and even Margot Robbie is a firm believer that having a beer in the shower before bed cures insomnia.

So, when we saw these beers exclusive to showering, we didn't know whether to say 'WTF?' or, 'that's a fabulous idea'.

Swedish agency, Snask, teamed up with a brewery in Stockholm called PangPang, to create beers designed to drink while you're, er, cleaning yourself.

Simply named, Shower Beer, it's not the light, refreshing beer you'd think it would be, and instead, packs a bit of a punch coming in with a 10 percent alcohol content.

The bottle is small though, and was specifically designed to "gulp in three sips while standing in the shower getting ready for the night."

And it's proved to be extremely popular, with the first batch selling out almost straight away.

If you fancy it though, don't worry, because Snask is trying to get distributors "in order to be able to shower this whole planet with this brew."

OK… we're in.

With 188,000 likes and 85,000 retweets in just three days, it's fair to say the Twitosphere is pretty damn impressed with the T-shirt a 17-year-old lad from Houston Texas rocked in recent days.

Aaron, who has been the victim of homophobia in the past, decided to snap up a garment which suggested people should bite their tongue instead of verbalising their prejudices.

"Why be racist, sexist, homophobic or transphobic when you could just be quiet?" read the slogan on the now uber-popular T-shirt.

Speaking to BuzzFeed, Aaron explained: "I have been a victim of bulling because I am gay and, yes, I have overcome all of those obstacles in my life, and when I saw the shirt I was amazed because of the message the shirt says."

"‘Just be quiet,’ as in, ‘If you have nothing nice to say, just don’t say it at all.” he added.

"Where can I get this shirt, I need it," wrote one Twitter user while another added: "This is everything."

"I need this top to shut my sister in law up with her homophobic comments," remarked another Twitter user,

Aaron, we salute you.

December killed us. We're totally broke, our livers have gone into crisis, and we just had to endure our first week back to work. Ouch.

Many people decide to try some self control in January, which mostly means, they won't even step inside the local on a Friday night for the entire month.

But, as it turns out, drinking in the pub with your mates is very good for you.

According to new research released by Oxford University, having a couple of pints or G&Ts with friends will improve your overall wellbeing.

The study, which was published in the Adaptive Human Behaviour and Psychology journal, found that people who had a regular pint in their local were happier and more satisfied with their lives.

Professor Robin Dunbar, who conducted the study, said: “This study showed that frequenting a local pub can directly affect peoples’ social network size and how engaged they are with their local community, which in turn can affect how satisfied they feel in life.

"Pubs traditionally have a role as a place for community socialising, alcohol’s role appears to be in triggering the endorphin system, which promotes social bonding.

“Like other complex bonding systems such as dancing, singing and storytelling, [going to the pub] has often been adopted by large social communities as a ritual associated with bonding.”

Dry January is over then, yeah?

Considering the designer wardrobe she rocked throughout Sex and the City's six incredible seasons, you'd be forgiven for thinking that you'd need to take out a mortgage to get your hands on the tutu Sarah Jessica Parker wore in the title sequence of the show.

With countless Manolos in her closet and more couture gowns than you could shake a stick at, we assumed that the outfit which launched one of the most iconic shows in television history would come at a fairly hefty price.

And how wrong were we?

According to Marie Claire, Carrie's tutu was found by the show's costume designer, Patricia Field, in a showroom bin, and set her back a mere $5.

That's right, ladies, the tutu which got on the wrong side of a cross-city New York bus cost less than the price of a pint back in 1998.

Unfortunately, it's no longer possible to get your hands on it for next to nothing as Patricia Field made the decision to recreate the skirt as part of a Sex and the City collection, and it's now retailing for a cool $115.

Still tempted?
