Yasmin Hamouda is an up-and-coming fashion blogger with a passion for street style.

She hopes to combine her passion for marketing and fashion to bring something a little bit different to Dublin's fashion scene.

“Dublin is just full of so many amazing creatives and I feel so so lucky to be able to work and create with some of them," she says.

Here she chats about the journey to self-employment.

I loved school but I was far from a model student. I hated being told what to do to the point that I would completely ignore the class in progress and instead proceed to take out my own books on what I thought was worthwhile – as you can imagine I was an absolute hit with the teachers.

Surprisingly enough, I came out with a fairly decent Leaving Cert., and went on to college because, well, that’s what you you’re supposed to do, right? But I was as lost there as I ever was.

I can laugh about it now, but I definitely worried about it a lot at the time. All of the girls I’d been at school with seemed to be flying and really enjoying the college experience, and I just wasn’t at all.

I wasn’t a student that was getting money thrown at me from home, so I proceeded to get a job and ended up getting two. I “studied” Monday to Wednesday, and on Thursday and Friday day time I worked in a bar in Temple Bar until about 4am,  and I was there all weekend too.

And you know what? I learned more pulling pints of Guinness, chatting to customers and cleaning up cigarette butts at 4am than I did in my three years of furthering my education.

It gave me the life experience that I think so many young people underestimate the importance of. It taught me key business lessons that weren’t on my college curriculum like what hard work means, how to deal with people (if you can deal with the drunk stags on a weekend in Dublin you can deal with just about anyone).

Fast forward two years and after many more experiences and those inevitable few waves of crap that life will throw your way, I’m now at the beginning of starting my own marketing consultancy business.

After such a long time feeling like a disaster simply because I didn’t fit into ‘the system’, I have to admit I’m super proud of myself for taking the road less travelled.

Building my own life for myself has given me so much absolute joy and happiness. I think that that’s something that those who choose to build their lives around others will never understand.

What I will say though is that it’s definitely not easy and probably not for everyone. Going it alone first of all is really scary. I have bills to pay at the end of each month like everyone and you just don’t have 100 per cent security. I always have a niggling feeling that I’m not doing enough and it can be challenging to have an “off” mode.

But if I think that it’s in you at all, you just have to do it. There’s no other way. Even when it gets tough – you’ll love every moment. You fall in love with the process, the journey – it’s exciting, I suppose!

Also, a quick note for any young person thinking about being their own boss – In the beginning, you will really have to push to be taken seriously in whichever industry it is. I’ve definitely learned that you need to have 100 per cent belief in what you have to offer and have a really  “don’t take no sh*t” attitude if you want to develop a reputation as a business person.

At the end of the day it doesn’t matter what age you are – it’s your experience and know-how that counts.

I’ve recently also combined my love of fashion and marketing through my blog and I love it – it’s my baby! My friends think I’m mad spending my weekends out shooting my latest fashion finds and working on content, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

I’ve met so many amazing people in the industry and I’m just so grateful for all the exciting things coming up! I think when creativity meets business its magic.

I actually think it's gas that girls are following me for fashion inspiration, because I’ve always been such a tomboy! But I have a huge passion for finding and owning your own personal style, so it’s just so fun to share.

In writing this, if I can help even one person who may be feeling totally lost in life, that would be amazing.

I’ve been there, and I’m only at the beginning of finding myself. All I can say to you is that life is very short and we only have one, so living to please others or to fit in just makes zero sense.

Follow your dreams with everything you have, have patience, work really hard, stay curious, stay true to your morals and just keep taking baby steps every day. Most importantly, be kind and live with the best of intentions – that’s a recipe for life in itself.

Working on building your best life will inevitably bring with it stresses, sacrifice, and from time to time that feeling of being all too much, but it will also be the greatest gift you will give yourself.

Slowly building the life of your dreams will be the most incredible journey you will ever take.

Snapchat's CEO, Evan Spiegel, has announced plans to overhaul the design of the app – a move which he acknowledges may cause disruption to business for the foreseeable future.

Responding to long-running criticism regarding the app's confusing design, Evan explained that the team are on a mission to make the app more user-friendly.

"One thing that we have heard over the years is that Snapchat is difficult to understand or hard to use, and our team has been working on responding to this feedback," he said this week.

"As a result, we are currently redesigning our application to make it easier to use."

With a nod to the immediate future, Evan asserted that the re-launch may result in a number of challenges, but insists the overhaul is vital.

"There is a strong likelihood that the redesign of our application will be disruptive to our business in the short term, and we don’t yet know how the behaviour of our community will change when they begin to use our updated application," he said.

"We’re willing to take that risk for what we believe are substantial long-term benefits to our business," he added.

Reports suggest that Snapchat failed to impress older audiences since its launch, while its popularity among its target demographic has been dwindling in recent months.

While the vast majority of people would commend the men and women who have come forward with their stories of assault and rape at the hands of Hollywood's biggest names, not everyone is as supportive.

Take American writer and journalist, Gay Talese, for example.

Speaking at a recent event in New York, Talese gave his opinion on the spate of allegations emerging from the entertainment industry, and appeared to suggest that the victims of these crimes should have kept their experiences a secret.

Focussing specifically on the allegations levelled at Kevin Spacey by Anthony Rapp, Talese said: "I feel so sad, and I hate Anthony Rapp that ruined this guy’s career. So, OK, it happened 10 years ago … Jesus, suck it up once in a while!”

Speaking to Vanity Fair, Talese suggested that few people have a perfect past – intimating that victims of crimes should display a sense of compassion.

"You know something, all of us in this room at one time or another did something we’re ashamed of. The Dalai Lama has done something he’s ashamed of. The Dalai Lama should confess … put that in your magazine!" he said.

This week, Daily Mail journalist, Dame Ann Leslie, came under fire for suggesting that abused women 'can't have it both ways'.

"They seem to spend their time now saying women are traumatised because some some silly old drunk in Parliament put his hand on her knee or anything like that. You can’t have it both ways," she argued.

“You can't say women are strong and empowered and then say they're scared and they're going to cry and all that sort of thing."

An advert, which was condemned by magazine readers for featuring an 'unhealthily thin' model, has been banned in the UK.

The image, which appeared in Conde Nast Traveller magazine, was subject to criticism after readers deemed the woman's appearance unhealthy – an accusation which the magazine refuted, insisting the model was naturally slim and in proportion.

However, the magazine's sister publication, Glamour, acknowledged the complaints, and the UK's Advertising Standards Authority ruled that the ad would not be permitted to appear again in its current form.

Issuing a statement on the matter, the ASA confirmed: "We acknowledged that the ad was for a travel magazine and that its focus was not supposed to be on the model or her clothes, however, we considered that the model was the focal point of the image."

"Therefore, we concluded that the ad made the model look unhealthily thin and that the ad was irresponsible."

Conde Nast Publications have been advised to ensure that future ads are 'prepared responsibly'.

Siobhan Whelan, who was denied a medical abortion despite learning her unborn son had holoprosencephaly, a congenital brain malformation, has been awarded €30,000 by the State.

According to The Independent, the Wexford woman, who was informed her child would likely die in utero or soon after birth, was forced to travel to the UK following the diagnosis in 2010.

Following a termination in Liverpool, Ms Whelan brought her complaint to the UN Human Rights Committee, who concluded that she had had her human rights violated, and was treated in a 'cruel, inhuman and degrading' manner.

With assistance from the Centre for Reproductive Rights in New York, it was deemed appropriate to provide Ms Whelan with compensation and psychological treatment.

Ms Whelan has released a statement in light of the settlement, saying: "The human rights committee’s decision this year on my complaint, in which it recognised the human rights violations I faced, was immensely important for me.

"I am very glad the Government has now taken steps to acknowledge the committee’s decision by providing reparations to me and I am grateful for this recognition.

Turning her attention to other women who may face similar circumstances, Ms Whelan said: "For me, the most important aspect of the Government’s obligation is to ensure law reform so that other women no longer have to suffer in this way."

"This is why I took my complaint to the human rights committee and I hope it will not be long before our laws are changed so that women like me can be given the best possible care at home."

The bodies of 26 teenage girls – aged between 14 and 18 – were pulled from the Mediterranean Sea in recent days.

According to a report in the New York Times, the teenagers, who were of Nigerian descent, were discovered by the Spanish Navy on Friday and subsequently taken to Italy where authorities have launched an investigation into their deaths.

Officials believe the deceased were likely victims of sex trafficking, with Marco Rotunno, the communications officer for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Italy, offering an insight into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.

“For Nigerian girls, it is pretty standard, the issue of being trafficked,” he said. “It is a regional network, unfortunately. I have seen younger than 14, and they were alone and from Nigeria.”

Salvatore Malfi, the prefect in the port city of Salerno which received the bodies following the boats' capsizing, expressed his regret over the incident.

“It is a tragedy for mankind,” he said before adding: "I think prosecutors will start working soonest to evaluate whether it could be homicide."

However, unlike Mr Rotunno, Mr Malfi is not convinced the women at the centre of the tragedy were being trafficked.

According to The Guardian, he asserted: "Sex trafficking routes are different, with different dynamics used. Loading women on to a boat is too risky for the traffickers, as they could risk losing all of their ‘goods’ – as they like to call them – in one fell swoop."

Survivors told authorities that they had departed from Libya, and authorities have yet to meet with anyone who can claim the young women as kin.

Two men, Al Mabrouc Wisam Harar, from Libya, and Mohamed Ali Al Bouzid from Egypt, have been arrested and charged in Italy in connection with the fatalities.

Postmortems on the bodies should be completed over the next week.

Recent controversy sparked by allegations of sexual abuse and harassment against producer Harvey Weinstein and actor Kevin Spacey has prompted woman and men across the entertainment industry to share their stories.

Speaking about her own experience of inappropriate behaviour, Irish TV presenter, Laura Whitmore, has revealed how she was called a “cold fish” for refusing to sleep with someone in the business.

Tweeting in response to a resurfaced news article in which actress Maureen O'Hara accused a Hollywood producer of calling her a “cold potato without sex appeal” because she refused to have have sex with him, the 32-year-old admitted she had been subjected to similar treatment.

“This was an article in 1945. It’s 2017 and the situation is similar. I was referred to as a ‘cold fish’ because I refused someone’s advances,” she wrote.

Adding in a later tweet: “Let's support and be kind to each other. We are all facing struggles that no one else may know.”

The MTV presenter had previously reported feeling “incredibly uncomfortable” in the presence of Harvey Weinstein, whom she met on a number of occasions to discuss her acting career.

And while Laura did not name any names, her revelation adds to the growing conversation around sexual harassment in the entrainment industry and beyond.

Gossip Girl actor, Ed Westwick, has responded to Kristina Cohen's allegations against him in succinct statement this afternoon.

Taking to Twitter, the British actor – in just three short sentences – dismissed Kristina's claims that he raped her.

"I do not know this woman", he wrote. "I have never forced myself in any manner, on any woman. I certainly have never committed rape."

The post which was uploaded minutes ago has amassed more than 3,000 likes, with social media users wasting no time responding to his statement.

As many appeared to support the actor, one Twitter user responded to the support, writing: "Astonishing how a woman can be raped & describe it in great detail but a man comes out with a half assed statement and y’all believe it."

Echoing this, another Twitter user condemned the length of Westwick's statement, writing: "Exactly. It’s so impersonal. Whereas her detailed description speaks volumes. I just don’t know what to believe."

Kristina alleges that the rape took place in Westwick's apartment three years ago.

Earlier today, we reported on Kristina Cohen's Facebook post in which she alleges she was sexually assaulted by Gossip Girl actor, Ed Westwick, three years ago.

In a lengthy and hugely detailed account, the actress recalls being held down and raped by the British actor after he digitally penetrated her without her consent in his apartment.

'I told him to stop, but he was strong. I fought him off as hard as I could but he grabbed my face in his hands, shaking me, telling me he wanted to f*ck me,' 27-year-old Kristina wrote.

The post has been widely circulated today, and social media users were quick to use Twitter as a platform to express their thoughts on Kristina's accusations.

Opinion on the post is divided, with some insisting that Kristina's decision to come forward guarantees Westwick will endure a trial by media while others have shown support for the American actress.

For every one tweet supporting Kristina, there is another reminding the public that the issue is a matter for the judicial system.

The actor's Wikipedia page has been edited constantly throughout the day, with contributors branding him 'a rapist' in his biography before others revert it to its original form.

A Daily Mail journalist has come under fire after she condemned the women who have spoken out about sexual harassment in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein scandal.

Speaking as part of a panel on Channel 4 News, Dame Ann Leslie said women who report incidents of inappropriate sexual behaviour “can’t have it both ways.”

Shockingly, the controversial comments came after Ann revealed that she had been asexually assaulted by the late politician, Nicholas Fairburn.

The journalist told how the former Tory MP, who died in 1995, placed his hand on her crotch during a joint appearance on an episode of BBC Radio 4's Any Questions.

“However, what I don’t like about what’s going on now is feminists have been trying all the time to say ‘oh my goodness, women must be in power, they must be strong, they will be strong’,” she said on the programme.

“They seem to spend their time now saying women are traumatised because some some silly old drunk in Parliament put his hand on her knee or anything like that. You can’t have it both ways.”

“You can't say women are strong and empowered and then say they're scared and they're going to cry and all that sort of thing.”

Her comments have been widely condemned by feminist groups across the UK with some accusing her of trivialising and dismissing the seriousness of these types of allegations.

Ann also made the ridiculous claims that women in the UK believe they “should scream and say ‘rape coming up’” if they are touched on the arm – to which fellow panellist, Guru-Murthy replied: “They don’t scream and say rape, they say stop treating me like a sexual object.”

Outraged viewers have taken to social media to stand up for the many women whose voices were belittled by the journalist's comments.

Over the past few years, retailers have seriously upped their games when it come to Christmas advertising campaigns – and this year is no different.

Marks and Spencer has just released its 2017 Christmas advert, starring none other than everyone's favourite marmalade-loving Peruvian, Paddington Bear.

Focused around a case of mistaken identity, the heartwarming clip follows Paddington as he accompanies a burglar around his neighbourhood, after he mistakes him for the real Santa.

Together, the unlikely pair make their way across the London suburbs, returning gifts before morning strikes.

Between sleigh rides and mince pies, the duo eventually manage to deliver all the presents back to their rightful owners, and even manage to to witness the joy on the faces of one family as they discover what Santa has left.

In the end, the thief realises the error of his ways and graciously accepts Paddington's gift of a marmalade sandwich – (spoiler: this is when the tears roll in).

The 90-second advert coincides with the release of Paddington 2, which is set to hit Irish cinemas this Friday, November 10.
