Coffee and sleep; just two of the greatest parts of any day, amirite?

And while we love them both in equal measure, we generally adhere to the guideline that mixing them is a pointless endeavour.

We need coffee to wake us up, so why would we down a cup before taking a nap? Well, because science says so, that's why.

According to Professor Chin Moi Chow of the University of Sydney, mixing coffee and a short nap is a surefire way to inject a little more energy into your day.

In a piece composed for The Conversation, Professor Chow explained that in order to maximise the impact coffee has on our energy levels, we should use the intial stages of absorbtion to grab some shut-eye.

"When you drink a coffee, the caffeine stays in the stomach for a while before moving to the small intestine,” he writes.

"It is from here that caffeine is absorbed and distributed throughout the body. This process, from drinking to absorption, takes 45 minutes."

“But caffeine’s alerting effect kicks in sooner, about 30 minutes after drinking. So, drinking a coffee just before a short nap of less than 15 minutes doesn’t affect the nap as your body hasn’t yet experienced the caffeine hit.”

Put simply, a short nap allows time for the coffee to kick in, so not only will you awake from your nap refreshed due to, you know, sleep, but then the caffeine will start working its magic.

"Once you wake up from your nap, not only do you experience the hit, your body feels the effects of the caffeine hours later,” explains Prof. Chow.

“It is this caffeine hit after you wake up and the “long tail” of caffeine in your body that helps you power through the day."

And while that's all well and good in the evening or at the weekend, we can't see our employers agreeing to a much-needed caffeine nap once that infamous 3pm slump kicks in.

Long before his wedding to Kim Kardashian and the arrival of their two children, Kanye West was in a long-term relationship with Amber Rose.

And following the demise of that union in 2010, Kanye chose to degrade his former girlfriend through song lyrics in a move which Amber today admits left her feeling suicidal.

In the same year that the pair parted ways, Kanye released two tracks, Blame Game and Hell of Life which detailed his time with the model and businesswoman.

However, given Amber's relatively low profile when compared to Kanye's, she reveals that his decision to slam her in public had a far-reaching effect.

"At that point, I have no voice at all. I have a couple followers on Twitter, maybe, at that point. That’s an extreme form of bullying as well," she told Complex Magazine's Everyday Struggle.

"To have such a huge voice to put out an album to say whatever the f*ck you want. It’s a great part of history and hip-hop, and I’m happy to be a part of it, but during that time, it was not a great time for me. "

"I’m famous and I’m broke, I don’t have any money, we weren’t married, he didn’t owe me sh*t, and I had to figure out what I was gonna do with the fame and with my life at the time."

Reflecting on the time that followed their split, Amber, who admitted she was utterly heartbroken by the break-up, continued: "If I was going to kill myself, I would have done it during those times."

Amber went on to admit that Kanye's decision to mock Wiz Khalifa, the father of her son Sebastian, in recent years left her reeling, saying: "You don't say nothing about my baby."

"I was quiet for so long. I could have got a reality show just off the fact that I was his girlfriend," she argued.

Refusing to cash in on a relationship which caused her such heartache, Amber insisted: "I could have wrote a book just off the fact that I was his girlfriend. I said, 'You know what? I'm a real a** b***h'.

Sometimes we go on Facebook and blindly scroll through our feed.

By now, a lot of our Facebook friends are either people who were in our transition year class in secondary school, or our mum's aunt's best friend.

Yes, we have a real friends on there too, but how often do you commincate with them solely through the site?

Well, according to new research, we're all on Facebook just to judge each other.

Linguistics lecturers Philip Seargeant and Caroline Tagg wanted to inviestigate “incidents where online communication has gone awry – where people have accidentally given offence, or been offended by what other people have written or shared”.

They surveryed 100 FB users and found that the majority of people continue to use the site even though it often annoys them.

However, instead of confronting the users that are annoying you, many preferred to “silently watch them – and perhaps even take pleasure from judging them”. Eeek!

The study, which was published in The Conversationist, saw that as well as being provoked by extremist or ill-informed views (homophobia, racism, etc), people are also annoyed by the users who share their daily routines or constantly self-promote themselves.

The researchers found that many Facebook users simply don't de-friend an annoying person because it would complicate real-life friendships.

“None of the people in the study, however, said that they’d reduced their use of Facebook because of the frequent offence they experienced from using it,” said Philip and Caroline.

“Logging onto Facebook gives you the chance to be indignantly offended (or maybe just mildly piqued) by other people’s ill-informed views and idiosyncratic behaviour.

"And there’s a surprising amount of pleasure in that,” they concluded.

Let's be honest, since the advent of social media, public declarations of love have begun to wear a little thin.

Look, we're really pleased for you, but constantly using social media to reinforce just how much you love your SO can get a little wearisome, and dare we say it, dubious.

And yet, despite this, we're still die-hard romantics at heart which is why we're so taken by a recent heartfelt declaration of love which can be found in the dedication pages of Kyle James' book.

The writer, whose book Not Afraid to Fall details the worldwide journey he embarked upon with his girlfriend Ashley, contains a dedication which has literally moved us to tears at SHEmazing HQ today.

Outlining the circumstances which led to the couple's decision to up sticks and travel the world together, he wrote in a recent piece for Cosmopolitan: "In 2015, my girlfriend Ashley and I quit our 9-to-5 jobs and bought one-way tickets from our home in Denver to New York, and from New York to Paris."

"We spent the next 114 days trekking across 15 countries and 38 cities, alone but together."

"Before we left, we'd been dating — in love — for about three years and we'd fallen into routines," he admits.

Kyle goes on to explain that upon returning home he chose to write a book of their experience, and after receiving the first hard copy he took his girlfriend on a hike through the Appalachian Mountains, and asked her to read the dedication.

Ladies, we're gonna prime you here;  this dedication may leave you gruffly wiping tears from your face while promising yourself that your own life-changing journey is just around the corner.

"Without your push, we never would have fallen," Kyle wrote in his dedication. "You always dreamed of travelling the world."

"When we began dating, it was all you talked about. You told me how you couldn’t wait to get out of this small college town, how you couldn’t wait to experience life through a different lens."

Kyle goes on to explain that he encouraged Ashley to wait until they were both established in their careers, and while Ashley agreed, her dream to travel was a permanent fixture in their lives.

"Each year at midnight, as we toasted our cheap Champagne and kissed softly to the background noise of cheering New Year’s Eve patrons, you asked me to travel the world with you.," remembers Kyle.

"You asked me to take you to romantic corners of Prague and intimate islands in Thailand. You asked me to spend miserable sunburned nights with you in Italy and long days under beach cabanas in the Greek Isles. Each year you asked me and each year I gave you a reason why we should wait."

Kyle then went on to explain that after securing what he considered his 'dream job', he suddenly realised the role wasn't for him and abruptly made the decision to chase Ashley's dreams with her.

"You sat me down on the couch, looked me in the eye, and told me you had a great idea," he wrote. "I was afraid to leave the comfort of our lives in Denver but waking up to your smiling face every morning, eager to explore, assured me that everything was going to be OK."

Together, Ashley and Kyle travelled all over the world, and revealed that their adventure confirmed what he already knew.

"Ash, you are the wind to my sails and the ink to my pen. No matter where I go or what I do, the only thing I am sure of is that I want you by my side," he told her.

"Every cliff I jump off, every moped I crash, every morning after a night of food poisoning, every Mediterranean sunset, I want you by my side. I never want to stop exploring with you, Ash."

Kyle finished the moving dedication with the words; "Will you marry me?"

And we're dead.

Whether you want to find your first job, or just need a change from your current one, we all know it can be hard to keep motivated when looking for employment.

Between the hours that go into searching, to the nerve-wrecking interviews, getting a job is no easy feat, and sometimes it can feel like it's going nowhere.

But if you have a LinkedIn profile, this one thing might be holding you back from getting a job.

And that one thing? Your selfie.

Yep, a recent survey by Envirofone revealed that having a selfie as your profile picture on LinkedIn could seriously harm your potential to be hired.

In fact, a massive 88 per cent of hiring managers surveyed said they felt having a selfie on your profile is very "unprofessional."

To further that, out of the 2,186 people interviewed, 58 per cent said that they would not hire a person solely based on them having a selfie on the professional networking site.

Richard Mavers, the online strategist for Envirofone said: "First impressions count, and it’s easy to assume that showcasing your best self(ie) on LinkedIn will impress potential bosses.

"However, recent research revealed that job candidates who use selfies on professional networking sites don’t go down well with employers."

However, Richard noted that there may be one exception (because we can't all afford professional headshots).

"While a professional head shot is always advisable where possible, a selfie where you are dressed professionally is a good alternative, with 66 per cent of respondents rating this as an acceptable option for a LinkedIn profile."

So there you have it, stay profesh ladies.

Commuters are struggling to get to work this morning as six crashes have occurred across the capital.

Motorists are advised to take "extreme care" while driving in the wet conditions today.

Debris on the M50 caused traffic to slow down southbound between J7 Lucan and J9 Red Cow.

Meanwhile, two crashes occurred on the M1, with the first taking place on the top of M1 southbound at J4 Donabate.

The second was "on the slip road onto M1 southbound at J3 Swords at bad bend," according to AA Roadwatch.

In the city centre, inbound traffic was stopped at the North King Street and Church Street junction, with the traffic provider warning drivers to take a different route.

Back to the M50 and just under an hour ago there was a collision in the right lane of the M50 southbound just before the Lucan turn-off at J7.

Then heading over to the Northside, there was a crash on the Clontarf Road inbound just before the Alfie Byrne Road junction, which is still causing delays in both directions.

Be careful out there, ladies.

Let's all be honest, we loved Usher back in the day.

With songs like Yeah!, No Limit and DJ Got Us Fallin' in Love, we had many a jam session bopping around to his tunes.

But one thing we didn't know about Usher is just how sound he is.

As he joins James Corden in the latest instalment of Carpool Karaoke, the two get on like a house on fire.

And as well as singing along to his own songs, User and James save a person with a broken down car, and the lads even… dance!

This is definitely one of our favourite ones yet:

After RTÉ responded to speculation that there is a major gender pay gap in the national broadcasting service, now Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has weighed in on the controversy.

On Monday, The Sunday Independent revealed that Sharon Ní Bheoláin earns €60,000 – €80,000 less than her male co-anchor Bryan Dobson.

"I believe that I am well remunerated, but, for the record, my pay is still considerably less than that of Bryan’s. I won’t be commenting further," she said at the time.

And now, Mr Varadkar's senior spokesman told the Irish Independent: "The Taoiseach welcomes RTÉ's decision to conduct a review into pay in the organisation.

"He believes strongly that there should be equal pay for equal work and equal experience.

"The Tánaiste [Frances Fitzgerald], on behalf of the Government, is currently developing proposals which would require employers to conduct a survey of pay levels within their organisation, building on the recently published Women and Girls Strategy," he added.

According to the publication, the most up-to-date figures available from RTÉ shows the average salary to be just below €60,000, but the vast majority of managers and presenters are expected to be on more than this.

Ulster and Irish rugby players Paddy Jackson and Stuart Olding are among four men to have been charged by the PSNI in relation to an alleged rape.

Four men questioned about the incident, which is alleged to have taken place in Belfast in June of last year, are to be prosecuted, according to the Public Prosecution Service.

Both men have denied the charges and a solicitor acting on Jackson's behalf said he was “very disappointed” with the verdict.

Jackson, 25, and Olding, 24, face a rape charge while a third man faces a sexual offence charge and a fourth is to be charged with intent to pervert the course of justice.

"We are very disappointed at the decision of the PPS to prosecute given the particular circumstances and facts known in this case.

"Our client rejects completely the allegations made against him and we are confident he will be exonerated in due course."

A joint statement from Ulster Rugby and the IRFU read:

"The IRFU and Ulster Rugby are aware that Paddy Jackson and Stuart Olding have been charged by the PSNI in relation to serious allegations made against them.

"The players have cooperated fully and strenuously deny the charges."

"The IRFU and Ulster Rugby take these allegations extremely seriously."

"To allow the players time to address this matter fully Ulster Rugby and the IRFU have agreed that they be relieved of their duties and obligations until the conclusion of this process.  Appropriate support structures will be put in place with them during this time."

"As this is a matter for the Public Prosecution Service it would be inappropriate to comment further."

Hearts were melting all over America this morning when one of the most adorable love stories unfolded on live television.

Two students from Kent State University, who matched on Tinder three years ago, met for the first time today, in front of millions of viewers on Good Morning America.

Josh Avsec, 22, and Michelle Arendas, 21, both swiped right on the dating app back in 2014 and after years of coming up with hilarious excuses for their relayed responses, they finally got to meet today.

Separated by a Blind Date style wall, the pair were quizzed about their three year digital relationship by hosts Michael Strahan and Lara Spencer before the got out of their chairs and locked eyes for the first time.

“This is a dream come true. I can’t believe I’m seeing her right now,” Josh said after he and Michelle shared their first hug.

The unlikely love story made headlines when Josh posted screenshots of their Tinder conversation on Twitter earlier this month.

The tweet quickly went viral and thanks to the magic of the internet, someone tagged Michelle in the post, making it the pair's first interaction outside Tinder.

“I was like a deer in the headlights, because I didn’t expect that,” he told PEOPLE.

So, why did it take this adorable duo so long to meet?

Well, it all came down to not wanting to let the joke die.

Josh admitted, “I’m stubborn and I wasn’t going to be the one to ruin a good joke like that. I’m stubborn and I’m committed to my sense of humor, that was definitely it for me. I didn’t want to be the one to break the joke.”

What's more, when the good folks over at Tinder heard about their story, they generously offered to send the pair to a city of their choice for their first date.

Their choice? Maui, Hawaii.

As for whether they see a future relationship, Michelle said: “We waited three years to send each other 10 messages so I think we need more than 30 minutes to be able to answer that question effectively. But I dunno, I guess we’ll see in the next few weeks.”

Josh added: “I’m a really good judge of character so I can at least tell if I’m not going to enjoy being around someone, and I haven’t gotten any of that vibe yet so, so far, so good.”

Awh, you guuuuys!
