It looks like we're all starting 2017 with a brand new organ in our bodies that we never knew we had.

Scientists at the University of Limerick have discovered a new organ in our digestive systems called the mesentery.

Basically, the mesentery works like a belt of tissue to keep your intestines in place in a way that means it doesn’t have to be attached to your abdomen.

"The mesentery, which connects the intestine to the abdomen, had for hundreds of years been considered a fragmented structure made up of multiple separate parts," reads a UL statement.

It has only recently been classified as an organ separate to the intestines, as it has been discovered that it is actually one continuous structure.

Although its complete function is still unclear, the discovery opens up “a whole new area of science”, according to J Calvin Coffey, the UL researcher who first discovered it.

"When we approach it like every other organ… we can categorise abdominal disease in terms of this organ," he told the Irish Times

“Now we have established anatomy and the structure. The next step is the function. If you understand the function, you can identify abnormal function, and then you have disease."

Gray’s Anatomy, the world’s most famous medical textbook, has even been updated to include the new definition.

People have been getting tattoos inspired by LUSH Cosmetics, and we have no idea why.

Listen, we're not here to judge, but we just can't imagine loving a bath product enough to permanently ink it on our skin.

HOWEVER, while we may not understand these LUSH tattoos, we cannot deny the fact that they look pretty darn cool.

We won't be getting a LUSH tattoo any time soon, but big shout-out to the people who have them.

What do you think, ladies?

Are these tattoos weird, or wonderful (or both?)?

@lush pot made on Hayley today! Thank you!!

In a new trailer for the upcoming season of Keeping Up With The Kardashians, Kim breaks her silence on her terrifying ordeal in Paris where she was robbed at gun-point.

In the 30-second clip, we can see Kim telling her sisters that all she could think of was, "They're going to shoot me in the back." She continued, "There's no way out. It makes me so upset to think about it."

However, that wasn't the only drama that cropped up in the clip.

As it rolls on, Kim finds out that her husband, Kanye, has had a breakdown and has been hospitalised. "Don't scare me, please. What's going on?" she says down the phone.

She's later seen crying and sobbing, "I think he really needs me, and I have to get home."

The new season of the show doesn't start until March, but it's certainly going to be an explosive one.

A lone gunman has opened fire at Fort Lauderdale airport in Florida – killing five people and injuring another six.

Local media reports state that the attacker has now been arrested and is in police custody.

Video captured at the scene shows scores of passengers huddled together on the runway in fear for their lives.

Fort Lauderdale airport is one of the US's busiest, and the tragedy happened at a baggage collection point in Terminal 2.

It does not seem that the gunman breached security restrictions to make his attack.

Fox News cites a witness described the shooter as being tall and in his 30s.

Images of the shooter are also currently being shared on social media.

Another day; another set of snaps of a certain teenage reality TV personality and social media star.

This time, she’s on a beach in Mexico looking perfectly happy with her boyfriend of a couple years, rapper Tyga.

Kylie Jenner: whether we like it or not – and plenty of people don’t – the world knows her name.

A photo posted by H.J.B.N (@hadidjennerbaldwinnews) on

Don’t forget, she’s still just 19: an age when most of were grappling with our first real forays into makeup, romance, college courses, and part-time jobs.

But far from battling spots and teenage insecurity, Kylie is every-imaginable-angle picture-perfect. Considering her stream of flawless photos and videos garner millions of reactions on Snapchat and Instagram, it is little wonder that she has to be.

And yet there is a particularly loathsome, venomous response whenever Ms Jenner crops up on celebrity-heavy websites.

“Frankenstein's monster, a fear-inducing but empty shell built by mad scientists for money,” sneered one observer this week upon reading the detail of Kylie and Tyga’s romantic beach getaway.

“Long live the new self absorbed plastic, sex object Queen,” wrote another – referring to the self-imposed social media demise of Kylie’s elder half-sister, Kim Kardashian.

A third comment read as such: “She's so nasty, pretty sure I got herpes just looking at these.”

Ouch.

The comments went on: “I just threw up in my mouth a little. Please make it stop.” And on: “So sick of seeing this deformed teenager half naked.” AND ON: “Per usual, she's disgusting…”

Tyga – a 27-year-old with a four-year-old son from a previous relationship with Blac Chyna – hardly came out unscathed himself.

Many noted his ‘scrawny’ appearance and bemoaned his fondness for the tattoos which generously cover his skin.

Still, there is no doubt that Ms Jenner – a member of the pop culture Kardashian-Jenner mega-dynasty – receives the brunt of the hatred.

Let's remember that this is a young woman who from the age of ten was put in front of millions via Keeping Up With The Kardashians.

A young woman who says she felt compelled to alter her lips when a boy in school commented on how ‘thin’ her natural ones were.

A young woman who has, in fact, admitted to being brutally bullied for years.

“Since the show started, there’s been so much bullying towards me,” Kylie told INTERVIEW magazine a year ago. “Every single day I see something negative about me.

“It’s just completely torn me apart.”

During a similar 2016 interview with Wonderland, Ms Jenner furthermore admitted: “Growing up, I’ve heard the worst things anyone could ever say about me and bullying was such a big part of my life, with the whole entire world judging me.”

And yet that bullying continues still.

People, it seems, don’t like that Kylie Jenner has had surgery; it appears that (although this is not confirmed) she has enhanced her breasts and her bum.

“Too young; too vain; too grotesque,” cries the online mob, with no acknowledgement that Ms Jenner – before all those changes in appearance – was happily referred to as KUWTK's ‘ugly sister’.

Look, there’s no attempt to pontificate from any high horse here: we all know how the keyboard can lead otherwise fairly reasonable folk to say and do things they never would in ‘real-life’.

But the criticism en masse of Kylie Jenner is vile.

It has evolved into a shamefully sustained, full-blown, and personal attack – and one that few of Kylie's fellow celebrities endure.

So let’s instead give this incredible teen a hearty pat on the back: in the spotlight for half of her childhood, she has emerged out on the other side. Not on drugs or half-sloshed and ranting at the maid by noon – but building her multi-million dollar brand.

And that’s cause enough to celebrate.

Tilikum was profiled in the popular documentary Blackfish, which sparked controversy about how the park cares for its animals.

The whale arrived at the water park over 25 years ago, and is estimated to have been 36 when he passed.

Unless you're adept at ignoring the countless social media posts waxing lyrical on the topic of 'clean eating', chances are you have, on some level, internalised the philosophy.

And whether you practice it or not is beside the point because the sheer number of posts celebrating it means that many of us get a pang of guilt when we tuck into our nightly pack of Malteasers or weekly takeaway.

While eating well and working out are absolutely essential for mind, body and soul, eliminating certain food groups, counting macros and imbibing more green stuff than you can shake a stick at is not the most pleasurable of activities.

And being forced to read about it on our social media feeds is even less interesting.

Here are just seven reasons we need to get the f*ck over 'clean eating'.

1. The term alone suggests that everything else we eat is somehow dirty, and no one needs that negativity in their life.

"I can literally SEE my face in this doughnut glaze. Dirty it is not."

2. Green tea is not the same as a steaming mug of Lyons, and no amount of brainwashing can get us to think otherwise.

"It's like a penance, and what did I do to deserve it?"

3. Gwyneth Paltrow is an advocate of clean eating – need we say more?

"I won't take life lessons from a woman who wore THAT dress to the Oscars."

4. A 'clean eating' lifestyle does not come cheap,  and who has time to source organic products at every turn?

"I may be eating clean, but I'll never own my own home at this rate."

5. The level of smugness that accompanies a newfound clean-eating convert is more than flesh and blood can stand, frankly.

"Oh, you used Chia seeds, did you?  And you caught the salmon yourself? Well, aren't you a treat?"

6. The health benefits of 'clean eating' are not worth the half-hourly trips to the bathroom to expel the sheer amount of water you're advised to drink.

"Everyone in the office is going to think I went to that dodgy kebab shop for lunch."

7. Turning your back on the glass of wine you so desperately want at the end of a busy week want may be good for your waistline, but it sure as hell isn't good for your soul.

"I'd rather be drunk than virtuous right now."

Two years ago Sophia Amoruso released a book about how she went from shopping in dumpsters to running a multi-million euro fashion empire.

It's safe to say many of us trusted that book like a bible, as it taught us about working hard and getting what you want in your career.

But along with the inspirational messages came Sophia's hilarious sense of humour and wit, which made us love her – and the book – even more.

Regrettably, there are very few among us who don't know someone who has experience of bulimia or anorexia.

And while the conditions which cause an individual to purge following a binge, or severely limit their calorie intake to the point of starvation have been a topic of conversation for the best part of three decades, the same can't be said for all manners of disordered eating.

Take what is currently known as the 'chew and spit', for example.

This method, which sees an individual masticate their food before spitting it out to avoid digestion, is often used by anorexics and bulimics, but a recent study now suggests that the approach is not unique to those suffering from the aforementioned disorders.

According to a study conducted by Phillip Aouad of the University of Sydney. internet searches for the practise have risen in the past five years – a finding which Aouad believes stems from discussion on social media.

“Although people, especially online, indicate their initial 'joy' at 'hacking' their diet, CS appears to be able to very quickly turn into something that is anxiety provoking and very distressing,” Aouad warned.

The findings of Aouad's study correlates, according to The Independent, with a study conducted by the University Of Haifa who established a connection between eating disorders and the length of time girls aged between 12 to 19 years old spent on social media.

Elaborating on the findings of the study, Aouad explains: "From what we are seeing in our current study, it becomes incredibly addictive in a very short period of time."

"Moreover, it might give the perception of weight loss at the beginning; however, several reports have highlighted that after sometime it may actually cause weight gain," he added.

There is currently no treatment for the condition, but Aouad insists that this does not mean patients will be unable to break the cycle, adding: "We are yet to investigate in greater detail additional adverse issues related specifically to CS."

There are few things more exciting than the January sales, and the prospect of snapping up a bargain is too good to resist.

However, we've officially reached our limit with the sales frenzy, and we're ready to move on to the new season of style.

Our January budgets are still stretched pretty tight, so we're looking forward to the end of the month when the real shopping can begin.

Mini backpack, €39.95, Frilled shirt €39.95

High street hot spot Zara has just launched their new collection, and, in typical Zara style, it's a medley of on trend accessories and work-to-bar style staples.

Zara hasn't ventured too far out of it's preferred minimalist colour scheme, omitting the typical punchy and proud summer shades in favour of muted creams and greys.

Waxed jeans €39.95, Faux fur bag €39.95

The collection seems to be well acquainted with the phrase "the devil's in the details," as the muted hues play homage to details like frilled sleeves, lace trim and intricate embroidery.

Adopting some of the catwalks biggest trends, the high street store is serving up some waxed, leather look jeans, perfect for channelling Kate Moss cool.

Clash textures with a faux fur cross body bag for some statement style.

Suede biker jacket €59.95, Frilled dress €49.95

Biker jackets are the perfect remedy to a winter of heavy boyfriend coats and puffa jackets.

The easy, throw-on-with-anything piece might be new season, but it's still a steal at €59.95.

 Jumper €29.95, Embroidered boots €69.95

Green is officially Pantone's colour of 2017, so what better way to jump into a new year of resolutely impeccable style choices than with an evergreen, oversized jumper.

Embroidery is still going strong, after being carried into this season stitched on everything from boots, bags and shirt lapels.

Leather skirt €29.95, Embroidered shirt €39.95

This leather and lace skirt is a true trophy piece. Balance out the edgy look with a slouchy jumper and tights, or pay homage to the 80s with a power blouse.

Embroidered shirts are still going strong, and adding a frill detail gives a folk touch that can soften up even the harshest of leather trousers and distressed jeans.

The end of the month can't come quickly enough!
