It can be hard to be happy when you are bogged down with college assignments or are overloaded at work. However, with these simple steps you’ll be beaming at yourself in the mirror in no time.

Make plans
Nothing makes you feel happier than having plans for the weekend or the end of the month. Whether it is a holiday or a few drinks with friends, having something good to look forward too will help you get through the day.

Drink water
Avoid the 3pm slump by consuming enough water to keep dehydration at bay. Pop a water bottle in your bag or by your desk and never feel thirsty again.

Put on the radio
Nothing says 'smile' like your favourite tune. If you can, sing-a-long with it or even get up and have a dance. But if that's a bit awkward – you could be at work – just hum along to the song in your head.

Fake it until you make it
If you’re still not feeling happy, fake it. Your smile may trick your brain into thinking you are happy which might actually make you feel happy.

Write a list
If you have tons to do in one day, sit down and write a list. When you have completed a task on your list tick it off. You will instantly feel relief and joy.

We all have those good days where we hit the gym and feel great. Then there are days where you would rather eat your shoe than go to that place.

Here are the excuses we tell ourselves on those days:

1. “If I go now it will be really crowded.”
Especially with all of those body builders around taking up all of the space.

2. “I just sneezed two times. I might be getting sick.”
Cough cough, can't go! Now where's my duvet?!

3. “I’ll probably be tired all day if I go to the gym before work.”
We can't have that now can we?

4. “I’m still a little sore from yesterday.”
Does this mean something is changing?

5. “Oh, it’s leg day today…”
Dear God, do NOT skip leg day.

6. ”I haven’t eaten enough food to go workout today.”
This is definitely a valid excuse.

7. “I’m going out tonight so I best relax beforehand and save my energy.”
Sure you'll be burning all those pesky cals on the dancefloor anyway, same thing!

8. “I didn’t sleep well last night.”
Nap time, zzz…!

9. “I’ll just go in the morning…”
Early to bed, early to…ooh Gossip Girl is on!

According to reports, new chart star Sam Smith is in talks to record the theme song for the new Bond movie.

Following Adele’s Oscar success with Skyfall, if plans go ahead Sam could be set for the international stage with the as yet untitled 24th Bond film.

Mr Bond himself, Daniel Craig, is pushing for Adele to make a repeat performance. However a source closely involved with the project stated that “there is only so long we can hold out for Adele”

“Sam is our top choice. He has the profile, cool image and astonishing voice to record a Bond theme.”

If Sam is chosen he will be the first male singer to record a Bond song since 1965, when Tom Jones sang the theme for Thunderball.

Sam Smith may be a newcomer to the music world but he is rising fast. His debut album In The Lonely Hour entered the charts at number one in May, outselling Coldplay.

His next single ‘I’m Not The Only One’ will be released at the end of the month.

Dakota Johnson, understandably enough, is not all that keen to have her parents watching her latest starring role.

Playing Anastasia Steele, the lead character in Fifty Shades of Grey might be a huge career break for the actress but there are some things a parent doesn’t want to see.

Actress mum Melanie Griffith admitted that she has no plans to see her daughter’s movie.

"I have not seen Fifty Shades. I don't think I'm going to see it," Melanie said.

"[Dakota] was like, 'You guys cannot come. There's no way.' So we're not going."

Melanie isn’t as hands off with her daughter’s career as she pretends though, having visited the Fifty Shades set during filming.

"I did go visit for a couple of days when they were shooting just normal stuff. I did see the Room of Pain – I did go in there and check it out”.

In fairness, who could resist having a quick look at that?

British photographer, David Slater, has been battling with Wikipedia over the rights of this photo:

You see, the problem is, Slater didn’t actually take the photo. He left the camera in the monkeys den and the monkey took a few selfies – so who owns the rights?

Wikipedia posted the photos on Wikimedia Commons, a site where you can upload photos and other media which is not governed by copyright, or whose copyright has expired. Slater asked them to take it down, as he owned the copyright, but they refused.

Slater says that since the camera was his, the photo is his too.

It is a tricky one, and it looks as though it’s going to take a court case to decide for sure. What do you think?

Kim Kardashian may not be on meth but the Bradley County Sheriff’s Office in Tennessee seem to have been smoking something.

As part of a “scare ‘em straight” gallery on their website, the Sherriff’s office posted a picture of Kim mocked up to look like she is ten years into a drug addiction.

Looks like someone just learned Photoshop.

When questioned about the photo the office said they had no idea Kim was part of the gallery, and it was all the idea of a volunteer who no longer worked there.

Rule number one avoiding trouble: always blame the intern.

It looks like Kim's people might also have had a word with them. Not only is the picture gone but the whole website is down, replaced with an “under construction” banner. Oops.

The Inbetweeners 2 was released on Wednesday, and it has broken UK records by taking in £2.75 million in one day.

This is the highest ever single day taking for a comedy, and it’s particularly impressive since it was released on a school night (though the fact that students are still on their summer holidays may have had a part to play in the impressive figures).

It’s unusual for a sequel to be superior to the first film, but The Inbetweeners 2 has actually received better reviews. Critics are saying this could be down to creators Damon Beesley and Iain Morris taking over directional duties.

We know what we'll be going to see on Saturday night!

Kelly Brook has placed another stamp in the fashion world by creating her own collection.

Brook has designed her first clothing line for online fashion brand, Simply Be.

Kelly will launch her 14-piece debut range at the start of September.

Kelly recently spoke about her excitement on working on her new range, and why she felt it was important to design clothes for curvy women: "It's been brilliant working with Simply Be on this collection. I really wanted it to reflect some of the latest trends but also give women the confidence to embrace and show off their assets.  I've always found it difficult to find clothes that fit my body shape, so this has been a wonderful opportunity to create a range that is all about fitting and accentuating curves! I can't wait to see what people think of it."

This dinner dish is making a comeback, and what better way to make the most of it than with some homemade Chicken Kievs of your own?

What you’ll need:

  • 8 skinless, boneless chicken fillets
  • 225g dried breadcrumbs
  • 75g grated parmesan cheese
  • 5 eggs
  • 100g plain flour
  • pinch paprika
  • 4 tbsp. sunflower or vegetable oil, for frying

For garlic butter

  • 4 crushed cloves of garlic
  • 2 tbsp. finely chopped parsley
  • 200g butter, softened
  • juice ½ lemon

What you’ll need to do:

  1. Place all the garlic butter ingredients in a bowl and season well. Mash with a fork until well combined, shape into two sausages using cling film to help you shape it, then tightly wrap and chill or freeze until really firm. Can be made up to three days in advance. When firm, slice each into 8 even pieces.
  2. Lay a chicken breast on a chopping board and use a sharp knife to make a deep pocket inside the breast. The easiest way is to push the point of a knife into the fat end, keep going halfway into the fillet.
  3. Repeat with the remaining breasts. Push 2 discs of butter inside each chicken breast, press to flatten and re-seal with your hands. Set aside.
  4. Mix the breadcrumbs and Parmesan on one plate, and tip the eggs onto another. On a third plate, mix the flour with paprika and some salt. Dip each breast in the flour, then the egg and finally the breadcrumbs, repeating so each Kiev has a double coating.
  5. Chill for at least one hour before cooking, or freeze now.
  6. Heat oven to 180 °C. Heat the oil in a large frying pan over a medium-high heat.
  7. Fry the Kievs for two-three minutes each side until golden – you may need to do this in batches. Transfer to a baking tray and cook for 20-25 minutes until cooked through.

Carol Kennelly must be feeling very happy indeed, as she was crowned the ‘Best Dressed Lady’ at the Dublin Horse Show yesterday.

Dressed in a beautiful ostrich feathered skirt and ivory peplum top, it’s no wonder why she was such a hit with the judges, Philip Treacy, Brendan Courtney and Angela Scanlon.

This isn’t the first time the Tralee woman has scooped such a prize either:

“I won in Galway in 2008 when I was pregnant with my little son. I’m just delighted.”

We bet she is, since the prize was a luxurious trip to New York!

Congratulations, Carol!

For the hopeless romantics out there (and the cynics too!) this is the perfect video to prove that romance is well and truly alive.

Joan Culberwell and Thomas McGonigal were walking through the streets of Wolverhampton in the UK, when they heard a busker play one of their favourite songs.

The 84-year-old then proceeded to ask his 84-year-old wife for a dance. The couple who have been together for 40 years, then began to waltz to the tune in the middle of the shopping street.

The sweet footage of the couple dancing has since become a viral hit. Thomas explained the incident wasn’t planned and he simply wanted to take Joan for a waltz: “It wasn’t a planned thing, Joan and I were walking through town to Boots when we stopped to listen to a busker. He was playing a medley of lovely ballroom tunes and I could sense Joan moving her feet. I was tapping along and just said to her 'may I take this dance?' and that was that”.
