Some times we think we have our whole beauty regime down; we know our favourite brands and we can contour like a pro and then other times we feel like a five-year-old rummaging through our mum's beauty bag with absolutely NO idea what we're doing and why it's going oh-so-very wrong.

Here are just five beauty mysteries that leave us completely stumped every single time.

If you've gotten to the bottom of them, either spread the word or spare a thought for the rest of us who are still very much in the dark.

Pedicure  vs. nail polish remover

1. Someone banging a door in another country can easily result in your chipped manicure.

But nothing short of a pneumatic drill will rid your toenails of that hideous plum shade you’ve been rocking since your Lanzarote trip in May.

Mascara vs. eye make-up remover

2. You could get into bed after spending hours removing your eye make-up until there isn’t the merest hint you went anyway near your make-up bag that day.

But when you look in the mirror the next morning, every spec of mascara and eyeliner has flaked under your eyes and, horrifyingly, coagulated in the corner of your eye.

Tan vs. skin

We know all the application rules, hell we could write a book on them and we stick to them.

But we rarely experience a flawless tan finish after a DIY application. Seriously, what secret are we missing out on here?

Eyeliner vs. skill

We know the rules of winged eyeliner application, we apply the technique and we hope for the best every single time.

But why do we always look like we nailed one, butgave up halfway through the other?

Blusher vs. talent

We watch the tutorials, blusher brush in hand, and then we carefully apply the same technique that the lovely girl in our laptop said we should.

But then we look in the mirror, quietly reach for a facewipe and vow to try again tomorrow.

But do you know what, girls? It doesn't really matter because despite all these thing we still look pretty fierce, right?!

Jennifer Aniston hasn’t won a Golden Globe Award since 2003, for her role as Rachel in Friends – well-deserved, we can all agree.

That’s why she is no doubt over the moon with today’s news that she has been nominated for a Golden Globe Award for her role as Claire Simmons in Cake.

Though she is up against some stiff competition, including Rosamund Pike for her role as Amy Elliot Dunne in the acclaimed Gone Girl and Reese Witherspoon in Wild, we are rooting for Jen to take home the prize!

Other nominations for the awards show include Benedict Cumberbatch, up against Jake Gyllenhall, Eddie Redmayne, Steve Carrell and David Oyelowo, for Best Actor in a Motion Picture, Drama.

Movies up for a Golden Globe include Boyhood, Foxcatcher, The Imitation Game, Selma and The Theory of Everything in the Drama section, while Birdman, Grand Budapest Hotel, Into The Woods, Pride and St. Vincent are up for a musical or comedy Golden Globe.

In the TV world, Game of Thrones, Downton Abbey, House of Cards, The Affair and The Good Wife battle it out for Best Television Series, Drama, while Orange Is The New Black, Girls, Jane The Virgin, Silicon Valley and Transparent all feature in the comedy nominations.

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler will be returning to their roles of hosts for the awards show, which will air on January 25th, 2015 – we cannot wait!

It has been announced that actress and stand-up comedian, Amy Schumer, will be hosting next year’s MTV Movie Awards! Seriously, how hilarious will that ceremony be?

The 33-year-old star of Inside Amy Schumer is clearly as excited as we are, tweeting: “I am honoured to be hosting the awards. I will carry the audience with me like a teen mom #breaktheinternet #breakmywater

The ceremony takes place in L.A on the 12th of April, so we 'only' have four months to wait.

The countdown begins.

Lily Allen may be known for her quick wit and is never one to shy away from confrontation but we think she may have met her match this time!

The singer had complained on Twitter about the fact that Mark Ronson’s hit Uptown Funk was performed on The X Factor ahead of its official release.

Lily tweeted asking: "Is this even out yet?" before claiming it was an example of music corruption, comments which have largely been removed from her Twitter account now.

Simon has now hit back at the singer and gone for a particularly low blow – admitting that Lily had wanted to be a judge on the show: “The irony is I spoke to Lily about being a judge. And from what I took from the meeting, she was seriously considering it. Thank God I said no. She’d be a barrel of laughs.”

Shut. Down. We reckon Lily will find it hard to stay silent on THAT diss! That said, we would have loved to have seen Lily on The X Factor – maybe next year?!

While this time of year is meant to be filled with joy and cheer, it’s also easy to get bogged down in the less-than-perfect aspects of the season: the weather, the over-spending, the intense family-time, the brussel sprouts and did we mention the weather?

With this in mind, we thought a list of life’s little pleasures may be just the remedy if you’re feeling a little more Scrooge-like than you expected at the moment.

Feast your eyes on some of the non-festive treats life throws at us on a daily basis and get yourself back on track pronto!

1. The feeling of wearing new socks or underwear.
Oh man, that’s so soft.

2. The joy of having the exact right change for the bus.
And not a cent more for you, Dublin Bus!

3. The feeling of triumph when you slide through the doors of the train in the NICK of time.
Nailed it.

4. Climbing into a freshly-made bed after a long, hot shower.
Ohhhh, sensory overload.

5. Not having to set your alarm to get up the next morning.
I win this round, snooze button.

6. Inhaling your favourite scent and immediately being transported to a happy time in your life.
It’s like magic.

7. Getting a haircut that accurately reflects exactly what you asked for.
Who knew this could happen?!

8. Being inundated with likes and comments for your latest Facebook status.
Everybody loves you!

9. Doing an impression that makes everybody burst out laughing.
Next stop; Broadway!

10. Checking your bank account and realising the damage isn't anywhere near as bad as you anticipated!
I am the queen of my own finances right now.

After watching The Graham Norton Show last weekend, we all understood just how important Zayn Malik’s hair is to his fans after Graham showed some tweets relating to the pop star’s ‘strand'.

Although Zayn has been sporting long hair for quite a while now, Twitter erupted once again when the star was seen wearing it down in a curtain style again, rather than the swept back do' complete with a manbun he had been wearing.

Many of Zayn's fans don't like the star with long hair, while others have been defending it to the last (strand). When we said strong reactions, we meant it…

It seems Zayn has the 'curtain look' of the decade, but we'll never forget who first rocked the look…We love you Nick Carter!

Fashion is a minefield, and while some people seem to make being stylish look effortless, for most of us it's not that easy.

We bet a few of these questions have passed your lips while trying to plan an outfit…

1. Why have I got nothing to wear?
The eternal question…

2. How does everyone else manage to wear something different EVERY DAY?
Are they magic?

3. Hmmm… I can probably get away without ironing this, right?
It would just get wrinkled again anyways. I’ll just iron the important parts.

4. Dry-clean only? Ah, lads.
Not a chance I’m shelling out €25 to have a skirt cleaned. To the washing machine with you!

5. How come this outfit looked so lovely before I left the house?
My skirt was NOT this short two hours ago. My hair was also not a frizzy mess.

6. Are my knickers totally visible right now?
These leggings are just glorified tights, aren’t they? I KNEW it. And now it’s too late to change.

7. Dear lord why are these shoes so painful?
Why do I even bother with heels?

8. Am I mixing prints in a stylish way right now or do I look like a hobo?
It’s a fine line.

There is drama in The X Factor camp once again after it has emerged that Xtra Factor star Sarah-Jane Crawford is not the age people have been led to believe she is…

Apparently, Sarah-Jane is actually 33-years-old, rather than the originally believed 29. It is thought the discovery was made when certain dates didn’t add up; for instance, Sarah-Jane appeared on the reality TV show Shipwrecked in 2002, meaning she would have only been 16 years old, when contestants had to be over 18 to participate on the show.

It was also said that the presenter did her GSCE in 1997, which would have made her 12 at the time. However, The Sun says that while Sarah-Jane may not have revealed she was 33, she certainly did not lie: “People just assumed she was 29 and she has never corrected them.” Fair enough…

It has also been reported that Sarah-Jane may have been under pressure to appear younger than she really is, as particular companies aim to appeal to younger audiences.

Either way, we’re sure audiences love Sarah-Jane – after all, it's only four years!

We all have that friend who is so content in her relationship that she makes the rest of us question our own random hook-up’s, less-than-perfect boyfriends and permanent single status.

If you’re sitting there thinking ‘Wait, I don’t have a friend like that!’, we’re sorry, but you’re that friend. We know it’s tough to hear, but it’s vital you know.

If you’re still not convinced that you’re walking a fine line between smug and satisfied, then maybe read on and see if any of these ring true.

1. You don’t join in with the “My boyfriend’s a total head melt” conversation when the girls are dishing the dirt.

No, it doesn’t get on their nerves at all…we promise.

2. You admire how good you look together in every passing reflection and often request that he join you in your admiration.

And this doesn’t make him self-conscious at all.

3. You do the ‘How to know he’s the ONE’ quizzes with a secret smug smile and then reveal the results to your friends.

Seriously, that’s fine.

4. You bring him up in conversation at every opportunity.

Oh, your boyfriend has a radiator in his house too? Well, that’s swell!

5. You make fake sarcastic comments about being a boring couple, but you don’t mean a word of it.

Don’t worry, everyone believes you, we swear.

6. You throw words like ‘brunch’ and ‘walks on the beach’ around like nobody’s business.

No, keep going, we want to hear more!

7. You talk about his mum like you’re best friends.

Margaret said what about her casserole dish? Interesting!

8. You jokingly tease him in front of his parents with a knowing smile.

Margaret loves it, but his dad Martin’s not as in to it, if we’re honest.

9. You view other people’s Facebook relationship drama with a sigh and a smirk.

We know, why, oh why can’t they be more like you two?

10. You picture what you look like while having sex, excuse us, while ‘making love’ and it doesn’t make you laugh because you know the pair of you look perfect.

And you know what? Maybe, you do!

Ah don’t mind us girl, we’re just jealous.

It’s all over for Leonardo Di Caprio and Toni Garrn. The couple had been dating for eighteen months, and while split rumours had surfaced previously, it seems this time it’s official.

News of their split comes only days after Leo was spotted leaving a nightclub in Florida with twenty women on his arm. Yes, twenty. So perhaps things have been over for a while; if not, then we reckon this may have been what sent Toni over the edge!

Toni and Leo have been very tight-lipped about their relationship and never made an official public appearance together.

Leo was previously in a long-term relationship with supermodel Gisele, but they broke up in 2005 after five years together.

There are certain things that happen on live TV that can be really embarrassing – and we think accidentally farting is DEFINITELY one of them…

Whoopi Goldberg, who features on US talk show The View, had an awkward moment  yesterday when she was discussing the flu shot with Rosie O’Donnell, Ashanti, Nicole Wallace and Rosie Perez.

Posing the question to Ashanti about the flu shot, a gush of air can be heard over the microphone before chaos descends on the set. Whoopi gets up and says “Excuse me”, while Rosie follows her and waves her arms to clear the air.

Whoopi then makes everything that little bit worse by blaming breakfast burritos on the incident. At least she admitted it rather than leaving the ladies to act as if nothing had happened!

Oh, Amy – you are our new spirit animal. That's right Taylor Swift, it's over.

The actress is no stranger to epic tweets about her husband and children, and now she has done it again! Tweeting a photo of Brian O’Driscoll receiving an honorary degree from Queen’s University in Belfast, his cheeky wife posted a photo and wrote: “@BrianODriscoll Hi BOD, big fan. Come here WHERE did you get this amazing cape? They are so in for AW2014 #ontrend.”

We're sure BOD will appreciate his wife's love for his look of the day!

Amy later tweeted a further dig at her husband’s fab uni wear (it's a thing…), writing: “It’s so incredibly chic for the party season. He ALWAYS gets it right. #stylecrush.”

Oh, you two!
