house and home

Whether you live at home with your parents, are sharing an apartment with your other half or are living it up with the girls, becoming an adult can suck a little, especially when it comes to domestic work.

Here are five ways to make your life so much easier:

Stop procrastinating
If you leave your clothes on the floor today, they will still be there tomorrow. Tomorrow’s clothes will then be left on top of today’s clothes and you will have a whole lot more work to do when it comes to tidying. Try to do it as you go along.

Turn up the tunes
Put aside 30 minutes or an hour each day to clean. During this time switch off the TV and pop on some music. You will be surprised just how much work you will get one in those 30 minutes!

Declutter
You will never have a tidy apartment or bedroom if you hang on to everything you own. Get rid of those shoes you haven’t worn in a year and recycle that pile of magazines that has been sitting in the corner for a while. Decluttering your home will make you feel so much better.

Make a list
Make a list of what needs to be done every day: cleaning the kitchen and washing your clothes etc., and what needs to be done once a month: dusting and polishing etc.

Don’t go overboard on stuff
When you first move into your new home, you will probably end up buying a load of items for your first trip to IKEA. Stop. Buy as you need, otherwise you will just end up with a load of stuff gathering dust that you could have done without.

If you’ve been hanging on to a few empty sauce jars for that pasta sauce you were meant to make from scratch, fear not! There are so many ways to upcycle a jar that you will wonder why you threw them away in the first place!

Vase
Using your jams as a vase is a great way to add a pop of colour around you home. Simply put one flower in each “vase” and leave one in every room. Beautify it with a little ribbon.

Candle holder
Fill the jar with water and pop one floating candle into it. For instant impact, line several together either along your balcony or garden and light the candles.

Potpourri
Fill the jar with potpourri, cover with cheesecloth and tie with a piece of twine. Not only do they smell pretty nice, they also make gorgeous gifts.

Bobbin holders
If you are always losing your bobbins, use a clean empty jar to hold them. Store it in the bathroom and you’ll never be stuck for a bobbin again. You can even pop your hairbrush in the jar as well so you’ll never lose it.

Bathroom organisers
Get several jars and fill them with cotton buds, ear buds, razors and anything else that ends up on the floor in your bathroom.

It’s quite easy to go overboard, so stick to these tips for a subtle hint of the trend.

Cushions
Floral patterned cushions are a great way to incorporate the trend. Throw a few on your bed or even on your couch – if your roommates let you…

Blankets
Bring some florals into your room by investing in a gorgeous flower duvet cover or even a light blanket.

Lamp shades
Purchase a few cheap shapes and pop them on a couple of the lamps in your home. Subtly at its finest!

Curtains
If you are really brave, floral curtains would be a good way to bring flowers into your home. A whole wall of flowers? Amazing!

Table cloth
Decorate your table with a cips clean table cloth and a vase of fresh flowers.

Now the summer is here, it’s time to brighten up your space and have a little fun.

Feeling a little uninspired lately? Rather than blaming sleep or other things have you ever thought that the ambience of your study area could be holding you back?

Here are the best ways to inspire creativity at home  – stick with us and you will be inspired in no time

Choose your colours wisely
Paint your walls green or blue to help remind you of the outside and feelings of being free. Yellow is good to get the juices flowing but avoid white which will likely give you a headache.

Listen to music
Background noise is helpful in keeping you awake and creative. Punk, jazz, classical and rock are good to get your juices flowing but avoid chart (whoops!) and disco.

Have a drink
Coffee is great to keep you alert, but stick to decaf. A glass of water or juice will also keep you going.

Create a nice smell
Light a scented candle or pop a little vase onto your desk and fill it with fresh flowers. There is nothing like a good smell to unleash your creative side.

Have stress ball
Release tense by leaving a stress ball on your desk. Squeeze it when you’re feeling overwhelmed and you will be back to yourself in no time.

It seems Kris Jenner’s family home was not the only fake house to be shown on Keeping Up with The Kardashians as the truth comes out about Kourtney Kardashian’s home.

The eldest Kardashian sibling  has admitted that the home they used on E!’s reality show is very different from the home the 34-year-old shared with her soon-to-be husband Scott Disick for three years.

According to RadarOnline, the couple sold their home in 25435 Prado de Las Peras, after they purchased Keyshawn Johnson’s Calabasas home at the start of the year.

However, the home they apparently lived in during the show was number 4532 and is an entirely different house from the one they sold.

The mum-of-two’s sister Kim Kardashian insists the lie was for the family’s safety.

She said: “My old home in Beverly Hills was really my home and I would get people showing up at all hours, ringing my gate and had to call the police on several occasions. It was so unsafe … After that we realized how unsafe it is to show the exteriors of our homes.”

It’s time to pull out that lonely container of baking soda from the back of your cupboard and put it to some good use.

Unclog your sink
Got a clogged sink? No problem. Pour your baking soda down the drain and leave to sit for about an hour before pouring boiled vinegar on top.

Freshen up stinky carpets
Sprinkle a little baking soda over your carpets and leave to sit for about a half an hour. Vacuum it up and voila, a nice smelling room.

Brighten your whites
Add a cup of baking soda into your next wash for bright, fresh smelling clothes.

Clean your grout (the bit between your tiles)
Cleaning your grout can be impossible but not when you have the aid of a little baking soda. Rub a little onto it, spray with water and leave to sit for ten minutes. Scrub away with a toothbrush… an old toothbrush.

After enjoying your yummy Pringles have you ever looked at the can and wondered what you could do with it – besides throw it in the bin that is?

Well, here are some suggestions:

Store pasta and spaghetti

No spaghetti jar? No problem – just store it in an empty Pringles can. Make sure you clean it out first though.

Desk tidy

Tidy up your study or office desk by putting your pens, pencils and sticky notes into an empty can. You can even decorate it by sticking on scraps of paper if you are feeling creative.

Coin box

If you are forever picking up loose change off your floor, why not start popping it into the empty crisp box and watch the pennies start to pile up.

Make-up brush holder

Cut a large Pringle box in half and use it to store your make-up brushes. You will never lose your bronzer brush again!

Now get munching and empty that Pringle box – any excuse!
