Yearly Archives: 2018

The avocado pizza, the cronut, the carrot latte and the unicorn anything dominated the 2017 frankenfood trend charts.

Now, 2018 is kicking off with a very interesting, albeit  questionable, food combo.

The cronut saw the first stirrings of cross-breeding croissants with other pastries, but this item sees the French flaky patisserie melded with a whole new food group.

The crossushi has just cropped up on Instagram, and we're slightly concerned.

The recipe involves wrapping a California sushi roll (without the rice) in a fresh baked pastry.

Served cold and paired with a hot coffee, the pastry is stuffed with smoked salmon, seaweed, wasabi, and ginger.

The brainchild of doughnut company Mr Homes Bakehouse in  Los Angeles,  we're thinking that it's about to break the internet.

The bakehouse is clearly a foodie innovator, with other delectable and unique recipes.

Our favourite has to be the Matcha Croissant – get in our bellies.

We're not sure about the combo of pastry and fish, but hey, we cant knock it until we try it.

Unfortunately, Mr Holmes is currently exclusively based in the USA.

We'll be waiting for a Dublin hot spot to create a version of the trend before we can try it ourselves.

The storm raged on through the night last night, and Twitter was having absolutely none.

Here's 10 of our favourite tweets about the current weather situation:

We don't know how the Hollywood machine ended up with so many attractive Chrises at once, but we're not complaining.

The only question remains though, who is the hunkiest: Hemsworth, Pratt, or Evans?

Ryan Reynolds was asked to weigh in on this important issue of our times, and his answer was amazing.

We are SWOONING!

And not just that – the Deadpool star hasn't forgotten about our gorgeous hunk Chris Pine!

Could Ryan be any more perfect?

People on Twitter completely agreed – Ryan Reynolds is our man.

Is it hot in here or is it just us?

Congratulations are in order for Paris Hilton and her new husband-to-be, Chris Zylka.

The reality star and socialite announced her engagement on Twitter earlier today saying how she was so excited to marry her ‘best friend and soulmate’ after he popped the question in Aspen.

While we were all in raptures of delight for the noughties queen, we couldn't help but notice one not-so-tiny detail – her whopping engagement ring.

The giant gem is rumoured to have cost over $2 million and includes a 22 carat diamond. Not too shabby.

The rock was created by celebrity jeweller Michael Greene.

’Paris just called and told me how much she appreciates it,' the designer told E! News.

A post shared by Paris Hilton (@parishilton) on

'She says it's her dream diamond,’

‘She said she never thought Chris would come up with something so perfect. She's so happy and excited.’

Twitter users in particular seem to be enamoured with the huge rock, and 'Paris Hilton Ring' is trending as much as the engagement itself.

Donald Trump has taken to Twitter to boast about the size of his nuclear power button.

The US president has compared the size of his nuclear power button to North Korean leader Kim Jong-un’s after the leader of North Korea stated in a New Year’s Day speech that he has a nuclear detonator button on his desk.

Trump chose to retail lists and remind the ‘food starved regime’ that he too has a ‘big and powerful’ button.

‘North Korean Leader Kim Jong Un just stated that the “Nuclear Button is on his desk at all times,”’ the POTUS tweeted.

‘Will someone from his depleted and food starved regime please inform him that I too have a Nuclear Button, but it is a much bigger and more powerful one than his, and my button works!’

In the speech, Kim warned the United States his country’s nuclear forces were now ‘completed,’ according to The Guardian.

We’re thinking that when it comes to nuclear warfare, it’s not about size but rather what you do with it…

The winners are to receive their jackpot later this week.

The status orange weather warning, in place since yesterday morning, has been extended to 3pm today.

Last night, Ireland felt the effect of the first storm of 2018 as winds of up to 140km p/h battered the country, accompanied by sheets of rain.

Many areas are facing flooding this morning, with County Galway being the worst effected.

Many roads have been closed after the waters of the River Cotton rose and caused flooding, as well as roads in Salthill due to high tides.

ESB Networks told The Irish Times that approximately 55,000 customers were without power yesterday evening.

These customers were predominantly in counties Mayo, Leitrim, Sligo, Galway, Cavan and Monaghan.

Motorists are asked to remain vigilant on the roads as strong winds and gusts continue.

Justin Timberlake has just announced the release of his fifth studio album, Man of the Woods – and as expected, fans can not contain their excitement.

The singer shared the news in a YouTube clip uploaded on Tuesday, revealing that the new record is due to drop on February 2, with a single due to be released this Friday.

JT explains how the new material is some of the most “personal” he has ever released.

“This album is really inspired by my son, my wife, my family, but more so than any other album I’ve ever written, where I’m from,” he says in the teaser.

The short video show the singer as he walks through forests, wades through water and shares an intimate moment with wife Jessica Alba.

It's thought that the clip's earthy vibe is in keeping with Justin's reinvented style of music, some of which features in the soundtrack to the video.

It's been over four years since JT's last release, and needless to say fans are ready to hear some new material.

So, today was the Monday-est Tuesday of all time.

The festivities have come to an end, you're back to the daily grind, and your bank account is as empty as a hermit's address book.

And while there might be little to look forward to right now, it's always comforting to know you're not alone in your abject misery, right?

With that in mind, here is a round-up of the tweets which perfectly sum up the #BackToWorkBlues.

1. Yep, us too.

2. Aaaaand breathe.

3. Time to call in sick.

4. Time is going backwards.

5. We mean, we wouldn't judge.

6. Scans Ryanair website all day.

7. Again, we must question whether time is, indeed, going backwards.

8. Don't we all?

A bishop has spoken out in defence of Al Porter after he was accused of multiple accounts of sexual misconduct.

Last year, the comedian and broadcaster was forced leave his role as Today FM's lunchtime presenter, as well as his role in the Olympia panto following allegations of inappropriate behaviour.

The final six episodes of Blind Date where also pulled by TV3 bosses.

Four fellow comedians accused the 24-year-old of harassment and groping, with one alleging that the comedy star out his hands down the front of his jeans.

Following the claims, Al issued an apology on Twitter, though for many fans it was a case of too little, too late.

However, Dublin's Auxiliary Bishop, Eamonn Walsh, is now urging people to be more understanding towards those who are going through a tough time.

“Let's not jump to judgment without the facts and we have to be aware that there may be judicial proceedings down the line so I wouldn't like to say anything that would interfere with that,” he said.

“He's a man who has spoken out about difficulties with mental health issues and we do not want to push him over the edge and you have to think there's always people behind these things.”

“A person is not a commodity – we all have family and friends. Everybody's so self-righteous these days.”

Speaking to The Irish Independent he asked people to allow justice take it's course.

“We allow justice to take its course, and not usurp it through public condemnation, humiliation and sentence without trial.”

“May the darkness that was visited on our local comedian, before justice to all could be processed, be replaced with balance, proper proportion and fair play, so that he may feel free and welcome to make us laugh again.”
