What would you do do get your hands on a sweet, sweet discounted jar of Nutella?

Well, if you're anything like our French neighbours, apparently rioting, fighting and generally causing chaos is the answer.

Several supermarkets owned by Intermarche across France offered a whopping 70pc off jars of Nutella, and French shoppers literally went crazy for the deal.

The sale saw prices drop from €4.70 to a measly €1.40.

In one video posted on Twitter, shoppers are seen pushing and shoving in order to acquire as many jars as possible.

In a statement to The Associated Press, Ferrero, the makers of the delicious hazelnut spread, said: 'We want to clarify that the decision for the special offer was taken unilaterally by Intermarche.'

'We regret the consequences of this operation, which created confusion and disappointment in the consumers’ minds.'

Not going to lie, we would probably be quite excited at the prospect of discounted Nutella, but we probably wouldn't be punching people in the face over it.

Probably.

If you're anything like us, you grew up watching the three Halliwell sisters of Charmed battling demons while simultaneously juggling their love lives, hobbies and carers.

Prue, Piper and Phoebe had a cult following as the show dominated our screens in the late 90s and early 00s.

From The Book of Shadows to the off screen drama between co-stars, we were hooked, and when the show came to an end after eight seasons, we were pretty devastated.

Luckily, The CW Television Network has officially ordered a pilot episode for a new season of Charmed.

The reboot is set to take place in the present day, and will have a distinctively feminist feel.

'This fierce, funny, feminist reboot of the original series centres on three sisters in a college town who discover they are witches,' reads the official show reboot description, according to Entertainment.

'Between vanquishing supernatural demons, tearing down the patriarchy, and maintaining familial bonds, a witch’s work is never done.'

This raises the question whether or not the original cast would consider making a comeback for the new reboot.

However, Holly Marie Combs and Shannen Doherty, who played Prue and Piper, have denied their involvement in the project.

'The Internet is not fit for children as it stands. There is no shallow end of the swimming pool,' Dr Mary Aiken, a UCD academic and an advisor Europol’s European Crime Centre, declared on RTÉ's Prime Time last night.

Indeed, between cyber-bullying and the presence of predators online, many have grown concerned over Ireland's digital age of consent, 13 years of age.

This is the lower end of the 13 to 16 range established by European law.

The digital age of consent is the age at which data controllers are legally able to begin holding data on an individual.

Dr Aiken questioned why 13 was even chosen on the programme last night, saying: 'We had a huge debate about the age of consent for physical health issues, so what age could a child go to the doctor to see them on their own, and it was deemed that a child younger than the age of 16 was incapable of giving informed consent in terms of their physical health.'

'Now we have a whole body of evidence pointing to negative aspects in terms of mental health and children engaging in social media.'

'So how could a child possibly give informed consent at 13 regarding their mental health if they cannot give it regarding their physical health? I think it’s eminently challengeable.'

She described a recent worrying trend online as well: 'In my work with Europol we issued a warning six months ago saying that we found that children as young as seven were being targeted by predators online.'

'What’s significant is you can have a predator who is a paedophile and who has a sexually deviant interest in the child, but there’s a whole new cohort now who have an economic interest in exploiting the child, what’s called ‘sextortion’ or ‘online coercion’.'

The cyber safety expert has good news for parents, though. 'It’s not too late, [the digital age of consent] doesn’t come into effect until May. You still have a chance to lobby,' she assured viewers.

When asked what mums and dads can do to keep their kids safe on the Internet, Dr Aiken responded: 'I don’t think we should start with parents. I think that statutory authorities have to come up with protocols, academics can inform that process.'

'So if we think about stages of development, we had Piaget stages of real-world development – your child should walk at one, they should construct sentences at 18 months… and we don’t have the equivalent for stages of cyber cognitive development, for example, what’s the best age to give a child a smartphone.'

She says that, scientifically, there needs to be more evidence for why 13 was chosen as the digital age of consent.

'This is a legal construct that you have to have a specific age,' Dr Aiken stated, 'But in psychology, children develop in age bands, so, say, between 11 and 14. And if that’s the case then effectively what you need to do is legislate at the upper age of the age band.'

Of course, even if this age of consent is raised, people worry about kids finding a way to use technology despite regulations put in place. However, Dr Aiken observed that this is the case in all areas of parenting, including trying to curb underage drinking.

'As a society, we put structures in place to help parent children,' she noted.

'If we had those protocols and they were backed by authorities, then at least parents would know how to make decisions.'

A recent study into conversion therapy among LGBT youth in the United States has established that approximately 20,000 individuals between the ages of 13 and 17 will be subjected to the controversial therapy.

The research, which was conducted by the Williams Institute a the UCLA School of Law, has estimated that 698,000 LGBT adults have received conversion therapy in the US since its introduction over one hundred years ago – 350,000 of whom endured it as adolescents.

The study confirms that the therapy, which has been widely dubbed harmful and ineffective by prominent medical and mental health associations, is practised by licensed professionals 'in the context of providing health care' and by some clergy 'in the context of religious practices'.

A range of techniques are employed in an effort to alter an individual's sexual orientation or gender identity, including inducing nausea, vomiting or paralysis.

According to BuzzFeed, one of the study's authors, Kerith Conron, is eager to work alongside families in order to provide as much support as possible to members of the LGBT community.

"With such a large number of teens at risk of conversion therapy we must ensure that families, faith communities and service providers have accurate information about sexual orientation and gender identity and work to reduce stigma and promote acceptance of LGBT youth and their families."

While the study states that three recent public opinion polls established majority support for the dissolution of conversion therapy, it is still legal in 41 states across the United States.

A sign placed on the window of a public house is currently going viral on Twitter for all the wrong reasons.

The Continental bar, located in New York's East Village, is facing backlash for policing the speech patterns of the public after it banned the word 'literally' from the venue.

'Sorry but if you say the word 'literally' inside Continental you have 5 minutes to finish your drink and then you must leave,' reads the sign, a photo of which was uploaded to social media by Twitter user Sara Cress.

'If you actually start a sentence with 'I literally' you must leave immediately!!!'

'This is the most overused, annoying word in the English language and we will not tolerate it.'

'Stop Kardashianism now!'

According to Urban Dictionary, Kardashianism is described as a lifestyle which is influenced by or modelled off the lives of the Kardashian-Jenner family.

It describes the phenomenon as: 'A chronic condition of extreme self-indulgence, characterised by self-involvement, absence of moral character, histrionic attention-seeking, inappropriate sexual activity, and overly large buttocks.'

So, it seems that the description of Kardashoianism is about as rude as the sign, then.

Cress also drew attention to the fact that most bars don't have a policy against harassment, never mind turns of phrase.

The Continental bar has previously come under fire for having an allegedly racist door policy

Since the tweet went viral, the owner of the bar, Trigger Smith, has backtracked on the implementation of the rule.

'I literally feel sorry for anybody who would take this seriously,' he told Time Out.

However, he told the online publication that he feels the phrase is chronically overused.

'If you watch TV shows like Keeping Up With the Kardashians or The Bachelor, every third word they say is ‘literally. It's contagious,' he told Time Out.

'You even hear newscasters on CNN saying it.'

We'll literally keep speaking exactly how we want to, thanks.

In a milestone moment yesterday, the Dáil passed legislation which will allow pubs to serve alcohol on Good Friday.

For 90 years, pubs and off licenses have been barred from selling alcohol meaning that the good folk of this country have been forced to stock up on Holy Thursday with all the fervour of people facing a siege.

The decision to remove the prohibition after almost a century has, unsurprisingly, been the talk of Twitter since the news broke yesterday afternoon.

From suggesting the move could help facilitate the creation of new drinking games to drawing comparisons to the Repeal the 8th debate, the good folk in the Twitosphere haven't held back.

Take a look at these…

Every city has a handful of unique destinations which appeal to die-hard fashionistas who know that bang for your buck is still possible even at designer label level.

And this week, our favourite has opened its second branch!

Designer Exchange, Ireland’s leading pre-loved luxury handbag and accessories retailer expanded, and is now tempting the masses on Dublin's Exchequer Street.

Running alongside their existing store on Dawson Street, the Designer Exchange team are thrilled to be growing and also adding new staff to the team.

Designer Exchange’s Paddy Coughlan said: “When we first opened we always planned on having more stores, we found the perfect location and we are thrilled it’s happened."

"There are lots of growth plans for Designer Exchange in 2018 and beyond, but this is a great way to start a new chapter in our story.”

Since opening its doors in October 2012, Designer Exchange has disrupted the designer accessories retail market.

Having researched the market, recruited a strong team and ensured everyone was educated on all authenticity issues, Paddy Coughlan has created a retailer where many dreams come true!

In a retail sector predominately aimed at women, what drives Paddy’s interest in handbags?

“Personally, as much as I love the traditional craft, especially the brands that pride themselves on hand finished craft, I adore the romantic histories of the designers," Paddy replied.

"From Louis Vuitton, humble beginnings and how each of the oldest fashion houses have evolved through the years. A bag is for everyone, but 10-inch stilettos aren’t. A bag or accessory no longer just completes a look, a look can be built around it.”

The official opening of Designer Exchange second outlet will be held in late February but in the meantime the Exchequer Street store is now open with an incredible selection to tempt everyone.

After Jade Hameister gave a TEDx Talk detailing her expedition to the North Pole, the 16-year-old was subjected to a barrage of sexist comments from YouTubers.

Suggesting the Australian adventurer should focus on traditional female roles rather than, you know, owning it on the exploration front, one YouTuber wrote: "Good on you sweetie, maybe you could find a successful husband and make him a sandwich."

With the farcical criticism still ringing in her ears, Jade set off on her next expedition, and this time she was heading to the South Pole.

After performing what is known as the polar hat trick, Jade reached the South Pole on January 10, and reflected on her journey.

"We skied over to the Ceremonial South Pole (probably the Pole that everyone knows as the only South Pole – the barbers Pole with the flags) and the actual Geographic South Pole (which moves around 10m each year), which is marked separately," Jade wrote.

The teen then revealed she made the decision to return in order to leave a ham and cheese sandwich.

"Now ski 37 days and 600km to the South Pole and you can eat it," she wrote.

Ladies, we've found our new hero.

Jade, take a bow.
