For the past 20 years, TED has been devoted to spreading ideas with powerful talks – and now you can watch them live on the big screen.

What does the future hold for you? That's what TED wants to explore this year. 

"In 2017, TED will balance a hard look at the seismic shifts that are altering the way the world works with insights into how we can foster personal learning, growth and empowerment," reads the TED2017 website.

Three of these talks are being broadcast live in various Omniplex cinemas in Ireland, with the aim for us to come out inspired about a host of topics from science to business and everything in between.

The first event which is being streamed live in Omniplex cinemas is the TED2017 Opening Event. This will give you an opportunity to experience the opening night of TED and the revelatory talks that come from it.

The flagship event, TED2017: The Future You, is also being streamed live, which will explore the support a global community needs to make their voices heard.

For the first time, cinema audiences can become part of this community, watching this year’s TED prize winner receive a $1m (€930,000) award towards a creative, bold wish to spark global change.

The final in the TED series at Omniplex is the TED2017 Highlights Exclusive. This event will give cinema goers a first of its kind look at the TED 2017 conference experience, showcasing the best of the week, where curiosity was sparked, minds were opened and worlds were shifted. 

All three TED Events take place at Omniplex Mahon Point Cork, Omniplex Rathmines, Dublin, Omniplex Dundalk, Omniplex Limerick and Omniplex Sligo.

The U.N. estimates that there are three million sex workers in India, of which at least 40 per cent are children.

However, according to Telesur, due to the secretive and illicit nature of the practice, cases brought before the courts are often dropped due to lack of evidence and/or a lawyer that specialises in the issue.

In fact, less than 50 cases of forced child prostitution lead to prosecution each year.

Earlier this month, a new educational facility aimed at combatting the problem opened its doors.

School for Justice was opened by Free a Girl, movement devoted to ‘freeing young girls from forced prostitution and prosecuting the offenders.’

The school’s ultimate goal is to provide former victims with the education and tools needed to become lawyers, so they can challenge India’s failing justice system from the inside out.

The inaugural class will see 19 girls work towards law degrees that specialise in commercial sexual exploitation.

Speaking to Adweek, Bas Korsten, one of the founders of the project said, “these are real girls who have been through highly traumatising experiences and had lives that we could hardly imagine."

He added, “they are determined to succeed in their ambition to become lawyers, with the power to prosecute the criminals who once owned them."

The idea was born when Free a Girl approached J. Walter Thompson, a marketing and communications agency in Amsterdam, asking them to create a campaign aimed at raising awareness of the issue among India men.

The two parties then became inspired to take their idea to the next level and open School of Justice.

Free a Girl say this is just the first step in their efforts to combat child prostitution in India. The movement plans to launch a campaign across the country, highlighting the need to address the ongoing issue.

‘‘The School for Justice is an ambitious project – the class of 2017 is just the first step in our plan. We want all of India to get behind The School for Justice and support our cause – as we can’t do this alone.’’

‘’Ultimately we want governmental support and to build up a robust advocacy programme to push for law reform to make a positive change for India.’’

Samantha Brookover and Amanda Abramovich were enjoying one of the best days of their lives when they got married in September 2014.

However, their delight quickly turned sour after a homophobic incident marred their big day. 

The couple said 'I do' in an intimate ceremony surrounded by loved ones, before proceeding to West Virginia's Gilmer County courthouse to seal the deal with a legal certificate of marriage.

It was here that the couple were allegedly the victims of a homophobic incident, in which the couple were palmed off after being falsely told that they couldn't get a marriage certificate without a driver's licence, according to The Washington Post.  

Upon returning over a year later to procure the certificate, the couple were allegedly met with a 'tirade of harassment and disparagement,' according to their lawsuit

The court house clerk reportedly called the couple an 'abomination' and stated that God would 'deal with them.'

'I don’t want to forget that day being so happy because it’s crowded out by the legal day,' she told the Washington Post.

'But sometimes I can’t help it. It’s hard to drive by the courthouse. It’s hard to just deal with it. I feel like I was robbed of being a human on that day.'

The clerk reportedly felt that her constitutional right to express religious freedom meant that she could harass the lesbian couple due to their sexuality. 

'I just felt led to do that. I believe God was standing with me and that’s just my religious belief,' she told The Charleston Gazette

The couple were able to sign their papers and get the marriage certificate eventually, but the entire event was marred by the alleged harassment.

Have you ever heard a couple cooing and fawning over each other, calling one another vomit-inducing nicknames that put your lunchtime Starbucks at high risk of reappearing?

Or, are you in one of those couples, and rather than finding the nicknames heave-worthy, you find them cute AF thanks to the personal back story they symbolise?

Well, apparently now there is a scientific reason for the nicknames, and they are actually good for the relationship. 

According to the Scientific American, silly nicknames can help to create a sense of intimacy between partners.

This is backed up by a study in the Journal of Social and Personal Relationships, which describes how the development of romantic nicknames helps to establish an intimate little world where the couple are in charge of the narrative, separate from the outside world. 

'I think it's a really human, natural behaviour to take language and shape it for our own purposes. I think that's how nicknames evolve,' said Carol Bruess, author of the study. 

'We name things, we give things symbols, and over time we tend to naturally manipulate those symbols toward a certain outcome.'

So salty singletons, look away, because cutsie nicknames are here to stay.

We all love scrolling through our Instagram feeds, and sometimes a sponsored post catches our eye as we're creeping through.

Usually, the sponsored posts are promoting a local business or service, but other times the ad space is taken up with beauty products or online items for sale.

One Instagram fan called Luke was scrolling through his Insta feed when he spotted a 'buy now' ad from a company called Lux Style for one of those blackhead peel-off masks that have taken over the internet lately.

According to Cosmo, Luke saw the blackhead mask ad, which featured a '100 percent money back guarantee' slogan, but with no price visible.

Wondering how pricey the mask was, Luke clicked on the product and put in his address details when prompted, lulled into a sense of security as his bank details had not been requested. 

A few weeks later, a packet of masks showed up at Luke's house, along with an invoice for the cost of the masks and shipping.

Luke, having not ordered the masks, flat out refused to pay, but was sent emails by the company insisting that he had ordered them. 

There are dozens of forums and Facebook pages committed to discussing and exposing the fraudulent company, who have threatened to send debt collectors to the homes of those who refuse to pay for the unsolicited goods. 

'I clicked on this advert to see the details of the product and the prices. A pop-up appeared asking me to register with them before they would show me their prices. I needed to give my e-mail address and my postal address which I did,' reads another fraud victim's account.

'When I found out how much the products cost I realised they were too expensive for me so I logged off their website.'

'I received a packet from this company which had enclosed 2 pieces of QUICKMAX which I did not order also enclosed was an invoice for the sum of £54.90. The payment instruction was that I had to pay this amount within 14 days to avoid late reminder fees.'

Another unsolicited customer had a similar experience, and is fighting an email battle to have the invoice erased.

'All I did was to check the cost of the product and left the website.'

'They sent me the product and have been sending continuous "avoid debt collection" case emails with invoices that gets "late payment fees" added on on top of the product cost. No number of emails and explanation helps,' reads a stressed out comment on the Lux Style International SCAM Facebook page. 

The Better Business Bureau has also released a warning about the scam company. 

'If you have received an unsolicited package or an invoice for products you did not order, under the Consumer Protection Act, you are not obligated to pay or return the package,' reads the statement.

So avoid those ads like the plague, you guys.

So, pretty much everything about Mean Girls was spot on.

The script, the wardrobe, the acting, the cast- we wouldn’t change any of it.

Lindsay Lohan played the leading role of Cady Heron perfectly, but what if we told you she was originally interested in another role?

Well, in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, the actress revealed that she was actually desperate to play the part of Regina George, because she wanted to be the cool girl on set for once.

“Mark [Director] came out to scout locations for Mean Girls and came to see me at my hotel and said, ‘Do you wanna do this movie?’'

''I wanted to play Regina. I had just played in Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen and Freaky Friday, not the cool girl in school. I was still 17 years old and I wanted to be the cool girl on set.’’

“So I had a war with him, and he goes, ‘No, Cady is the heroine, and that’s who you are.’ Then I sat in all the auditions. Amanda Seyfried auditioned to play Regina as well. It ended up being Rachel McAdams, and she’s wonderful.”

According to People, Tina Fey also wanted Lindsay to play Regina, but the director, Mark Waters, eventually brought her around to his way of thinking – and we're glad.

Founded by Emilia Rowan, Cocu has become a firm favourite with foodies in Ireland.

Taking inspiration from far-flung lands while giving more than a passing nod to the important of local produce, the folk behind Cocu never fail to inspire, influence and invigorate.

French Foodie in Dublin

Ketty Elisabeth, the face of French Foodie in Dublin, started her blog in 2012 and has watched it grow in popularity over the past five years.

Authentic, passionate and utterly charming, if you want a unique look at the capital's gastronomy scene, French Foodie in Dublin has you covered.

The Happy Pear

When it comes to enthusiasm, these two guys have it in absolute spades.

Dave and Steve, the siblings behind The Happy Pear, are pros at communicating the importance of fresh food, the significance of simple recipes and the value of creating wholesome produce.

Russell James Alford and Patrick Hanlon established their blog back in 2013 and initially intended to review Dublin restaurants, but life got in the way and they ultimately found themselves in London where they really found their voice.

Their enthusiasm, warmth and passion for home cooking makes them two of the most relatable Food Influencers in the industry.

Penneys fans, get excited.

Every season, there are one or two Penneys pieces that are so good, they fly off the shelves in mere minutes (anyone remember the Chip cup craziness?).

Now, the newest covetable piece is en route to Irish stores, after selling out almost instantly in the UK. 

This blue gingham dress ticks a multitude of trend boxes for summer, from the gingham print to the fluted sleeves and collarless neckline. 

The €19.00 dress is already being sold for the bumped up price of  €53.79 on resale site like eBay and Depop.

There are sure to be queues outside Penneys for this perfect summer piece, but no date has yet been confirmed for the release.

'The gingham dress will be in Irish stores in the coming weeks, we do not have a confirmed date,' a spokeswoman for Penneys confirmed to The Sun.

Once it's gone, it's gone, as the spokesperson confirmed that the gorgeous guna will not be restocked.

Nicki Minaj is facing major criticism from fans over scenes filmed on Westminster Bridge in her new music video, No Frauds.

The video which also stars Drake and Lil Wayne, was released on Wednesday – less than a month after the Westminster terror attacks took place. 

The scenes were shot on March 20, just one day before the attacks took place.

The Sun reported last month that the clips would be dropped from the final cut after a source close to the singer said Nicki felt it would be inappropriate to release the footage. 

''The other London scenes will remain, but it's highly doubtful the bridge footage will make the cut,'' the source told the newspaper. 

Nicki previously reached out to the victims of the attack and offered her condolences to their families. 

However, fans where shocked to see the inclusion of the footage in the final video, leaving some Twitter users asking was it too soon?

A protest is set to take place today against the government plans to hand ownership of the new National Maternity Hospital to the Sisters of Charity.

The demonstration is set to take place outside the Department of Health at Hawkins House in Dublin this lunchtime from 1-2pm.

The protest aims to notify the government of the feelings that Irish citizens have about the decision. 

Councillor Éilish Ryan from the Workers Party said: 'The decision to grant ownership of the National Maternity Hospital makes a mockery of the supposed neutrality of the Citizens’ Assembly.'

'Do any of us really believe that, if and when the 8th amendment of our constitution is repealed, any new legislation for abortion will be implemented fully in a hospital wholly owned by the Catholic Church?'

'Every week another story emerges of the extraordinary harm done to women by the church, with state complicity, in this country.'

'What good is it to agree, finally, to remove archaic, church-written clauses from our constitution, if we hand over women’s healthcare to that same church?' 

There is a petition underway online in an attempt to draw attention to the issue, which has garnered over 50,000 signatures in 24 hours. 

'The church – and any private body – has no place in the provision of healthcare.'

'Maternity care gets to the root of how we value women in this country, and historically has been where women have been worst treated by our state. Its time for us to change that record,' finished Councillor Ryan.
