Police have begun to search a home in a Paris suburb following a gun attack on the Champs-Elysees last night.

The Islamic State promptly claimed responsibility for the attack, killing one police officer and wounding three others.

Officers on the scene, returned fire and the attacker was shot dead.

Eyewitnesses say the attacker pulled up alongside a stationary car and fired through the window.

Investigators searched a home in eastern Paris early this morning. Neighbours in the quiet, middle-class area expressed surprise and the searches.

According to the Associated Press, French authorities have identified the attacker as a 39-year-old male, but officers are continuing to explore the possibility that he may not have acted alone.

President Francois Hollande held an emergency meeting with the Prime Minister last night and a meeting of the defence council is due to take place this morning.

The attacks have sparked calls for Sunday’s French presidential election to be postponed.

Due to a drastic plunge in population, giraffes could now be considered as endangered.

Many conservationists are calling for the mammals to be officially put on the endangered list to save them from "silent extinction."

The Guardian reports that the International Union for Conservation of Nature moved giraffes from 'Least Concern' to 'Vulnerable' on its global Red List last December, which is seriously worrying news.

Group of Giraffe Surrounded by the Green Trees

It has also been reported that since the mid-80s, giraffes numbers in various parts of Africa have dropped by more than 40 per cent, which means they need to have special protection.

A formal petition has been made online by conservationist groups, which reads: "Considering the ongoing threats to giraffes and their small remaining populations, now is the time for Endangered Species Act protections for this seriously and increasingly imperiled species."

Sir David Attenborough also voiced his concerns in his Gentle Giants BBC documentary.

Giraffe Standing Near on Grey Green Tree

"It's well known that African elephants are in trouble and there are perhaps just under half a million left," he said.

"But what no one realised is there are far fewer giraffes. Giraffes have already become extinct in seven countries. They are killed for their meat and their habitats are being destroyed. Time is running out."

You can sign up to the petition mentioned above and find out more info over on this website.

A 17-year-old girl from California shared a picture on Twitter last week of her dad staying by her mam's side while she undergoes treatment for cancer.

Her mam had to be isolated, and from it came one of most heart-warming and sweetest things you'll ever see.

The teen, McKenna, spoke to Buzzfeed and told them that her mam was diagnosed with thyroid cancer last October, and during her treatment last week, she was isolated in her room.

And her dad stayed as close to her mam as he possibly could.

McKenna's picture, which shows her dad sitting outside her mam's bedroom door, has gained nearly 3,000 likes since she posted it, and the Internet is exploding over the love her dad has for his wife.

McKenna told Buzzfeed: "The amount of love I've received is crazy and I didn't expect any of it, but I'm so grateful."

Her mam added: "Jon goes to every doctor's appointment, every blood test, every surgery, every radiation. And, as you can see, if he can't be by my side he is as close as he can get!"

The term FGM, female genital mutilation, is known widely around the world.

The practise involves the removal of young girls' clitorises and in most cases it's done brutally and unhygienically.

The ritual is mostly carried out in African communities, but the BBC has found that it occurs in the UK and the US too.

More common in the UK is labia stretching, the process which sees a woman having her labia minora (inner lips of the vagina), pulled by hand until they stretch up to five inches.

Researchers found that this often happens to young girls who haven't yet reached puberty… even though it's illegal.

But surprisingly, the research found that some adult women are opting to have the procedure done so they will be "more attractive to men."

These women believe that it will improve a man's sex life by giving them "something to touch," and therefore, make them "more faithful."

Some women believe that stretching their labia will make childbirth easier, but according to Eney Mhiza, a sexual practises researcher at Wolverhampton University, "these are just myths."

As part of the BBC's short film about labia stretching, a woman named Betty confirms the grim reality of FGM .

Betty had FGM done to her as a child when she lived in Zimbabwe, and now campaigns against it.

She explained, "Elderly women tell little girls to open their legs, the lips of your private parts… just the inside, they start pulling the little things out.

"It was so, so inhuman, so terrible," Betty added.

While Betty wants to warn young women and children off the idea, the BBC found that others are encouraging their daughters to do it.

They found a woman living in the UK, who tried to have the practise done on her 12-year-old daughter.

Her daughter refused to go through the process as it was too painful, but her mother said that the procedure is "expected" in her culture, and therefore is not a form of abuse.

The practises are carried out so secretly, that nobody has an official figure of how many women go it.

Following claims that a young female music fan was sexually assaulted at a Kasabian gig in Kentish Town last night, members of the public have taken to Twitter to discuss the ramifications of the claims.

According to numerous reports, a member of Cabbage – Kasabian's supporting act on the night – sexually assaulted a female who was in the front row of the venue with her father.

Nicole Rushworth, a supposed eyewitness, took to Twitter and claimed that Lee Broadbent had violated the fan.

"The lead singer, Lee Broadbent, sexually assaulted a young woman at the show. Her and her dad had been in the queue since the early hours of the morning to ensure their place on the barrier for Kasabian, only to have their night tarnished by this awful behaviour," she wrote.

"Whilst stood on the barrier, he proceeded to put his hand down his trousers, fondle himself, then rub his hand on the girl, ragging on her hair. Basically forcing her face first into his crotch."

"Rightfully so, her dad complained to security who said they would speak to Kasabian’s production team. They then brought out the singer to apologise to the girl and all he did was start an argument with her dad. He flat out refused to apologise and got aggressive with him, stating that it was all part of the act."

"His behaviour was completely appalling, I have never witnessed anything like it at the many shows I’ve been to over the years," Nicole added.

Strenuously denying the allegations, the band replied: "We completely deny the accusations put against Lee this morning. His hands were never down his trousers – although he did go down to the barrier to interact with the crowd, as he does at all Cabbage shows."

"Security guards and everyone who saw the show, know that these complaints are completely unfounded. We’re very shocked and deeply troubled by these fabrications. We 100% support Safe Gigs For Women and everyone.”

Meanwhile, Twitter users have weighed in on the controversy, with some insisting that the public have been too quick to believe the claims while others have sided with the individuals who reported the incident.

Remember when sweet potatoes weren't really part of your diet?

Yes, us neither because the orange vegetable has been on the menu pretty much everywhere for the past two years.

And the reasons are obvious: on top of fact that they taste divine, sweet potatoes are a nutrition powerhouse.

They are an excellent source of vitamin A, vitamin C, manganese, copper, vitamin B6, potassium and dietary fibre. We love them baked, stuffed, roasted or fried, basically in every way possible.

Since the Internet is all about #cleaneating and #foodporn at the same time, Instagram is the place to be if you are looking for inspiration on what to make with sweet potatoes.

Pancakes

Looks like a great lunch to bring to the office.

Happy Monday! I hope you had a wonderful weekend. Between My daughters birthday and Easter I indulged a little too much so off to a new start and will be sure to try and get in some evening runs this week. Today's lunch is sweet potato and zucchini pancakes over arugula with roasted chickpeas, tomatoes, avocado and olives topped with a little lemon juice, hemp seeds and gomasio. Have a great day!To make the sweet potato and zucchini pancakes grate half a medium zucchini in a bowl and place on thick layer of paper towels. Press out as much of the juice as possible through a strainer or with dry paper towels. Squeezing out all the juice prevents the pancakes from falling apart while cooking. Add zucchini back into the bowl and grate half a sweet potato. Add in 1 @handsomebrookfarm pasture raised egg or egg substitute equivalent, 2 chopped scallions and salt and pepper to taste and blend well. Add 1 to 3 Tbsp. @bobsredmill gluten free flour to help bind any excess juice. Heat 1 tbsp. @harvestbay extra virgin coconut oil on medium high heat. Add heaps of mixture to pan and shape into pancakes. Cook on both sides until golden and transfer to paper towels to remove any excess oil. Makes about 8 pancakes. Serve with Greek yogurt or applesauce!

But what if you could let someone else lay the groundwork?

Well, Wingman might just have the answer.

Wingman is a new dating app that puts the control completely in the hands or your chosen wingman or wingwoman.

Users can not create their own profiles, nor can they choose who they connect with – those privileges are reserved for the single’s trusted friend.

But don’t worry, your profile won’t go live until you’ve approved it.

If your trusted wingman or women approves of someone who is interested in you, you’ll be connected and can take the conversation form there.

While the single user cannot directly contact the people they’re interested in, they can ‘nudge’ their wingman in their direction.

App designer, Tina Wilson, told Mashable she wanted to app to mimic real life interactions.

Last week, America’s first female Muslim judge, Sheila Adbus-Salaam was found dead in New York’s Hudson River.

Shelia’s body was found last Wednesday afternoon, full clothed, with no signs of obvious trauma.

It was originally thought that the 65-year-old had taken her own life, but The New York Police Department are now treating her death as suspicious.

Stephen Davis, a spokesman for the force told ABC7NY : “We’re looking at it as a suspicious death at this point. We haven’t found any clear indications of criminality, but at this point we can’t say for sure.’’

‘’We’re hoping if anyone could shed any light into the hours before her disappearance, it would help us establish what happened.”

According to the New York Post, investigations are continuing and CCTV footage from the surrounding area is being examined.

The newspaper also reported that Shelia was found water in her lungs and slight bruising around her neck, however, the official postmortem results are yet to be released.

The NYPD took to Twitter to make a public appeal for any information surrounding Shelia’s death.

Shelia's husband, Rev. Gregory Jacobs, also pleaded with the local Harlem community to come forward with any information that might be useful in the ivestigation.

According to NBC he said: "Sheila loved Harlem and its people and lived there for nearly all of her adult life. I now join with the NYPD in asking anyone in the neighborhood to step forward with any information that might help us determine what may have happened during those hours before her death."
