Italy could soon become the first European country to offer paid menstrual leave to all female workers.

The government are currently debating a new bill which, if implemented, would offer women who suffer from painful periods three day of paid leave every month.

Marie Claire have hailed the move as “a standard-bearer of progress and social sustainability”, but some critics of the bill have suggested that it may actually work against, rather than for women.

With one of the lowest rates of female employment in the European Union (61 per cent), there are fears that this number could drop even further as the move may discourage companies from hiring female workers in the first place.

As it stands, Italian women already struggle to compete in the Italian job market, partially due to the country's generous maternity laws.

Five months of paid maternity leave are compulsory for both employers and employees. During this time, a female employee receives 80 per cent of her salary, paid by INPS (National Institute of Social Security).

While this seems like a progressive move on paper, it is thought to have effected the rates of female employment due to employers' reluctance to comply with the laws.

A draft of the proposed menstrual leave law was put forward earlier this year by four female MPs and could come into effect some time in the next few months.

Speaking to the Washington Post, economist Daniela Piazzalunga said, "Women are already taking days off because of menstrual pains, but the new law would allow them to do so without using sick leaves or other permits."

"The demand for female employees among companies might decrease, or women could be further penalised both in terms of salary and career advancement."

Similar laws already exist in parts of China, Japan and South Korea and come private companies, such as Nike, have also offered menstrual leave to their female employees.

No news yet on whether a similar law could be put in place in Ireland, but you won't see us complaining if it ever does.

The All Ireland Rally For Life, an anti-abortion demonstration, is going ahead in Dublin this Saturday.

Rally for Choice Ireland has called for a counter demo to take place in the city centre during the pro-life demonstration.

According to the All Ireland Rally for Life: 'Powerful pro-abortion campaigners in Ireland, the UK, European Union and United Nations are attacking our pro-life laws.'

'That’s why it’s so important we show our opposition to abortion and to stay strong for life.'

The counter demo will kick off at 2pm at the Spire on O'Connell Street.

Over 1,000 people have shown interest in the event with 434 confirmed attending.

'In addition to having a Rally in Belfast this year we will continue in our tradition of opposing the lie that is the Rally for Life,' reads the event description.

'Last year we countered them with a Rally and we outnumbered them. This year we will hold our usual static protest at the Spire, let's outnumber them here too.'

'Join us to counter the lies!'

We are major Instagram addicts at SHEmazing HQ, so when we stumbled upon this major hack, we were pretty impressed.

The photo-sharing app has quite a few delightful filters you can add over images to jazz them up a little, but sometimes the line-up can feel a tad stale.

Little did we know, but there are actually 40 filters to choose from on the app, but some of them are hiding.

When you edit an image, scroll to the very end where you'll find an application called Manage.

Once you click in, you'll see a scroll page featuring all the usual filters (some of which will be greyed out if you followed our other Instagram hack…)

However if you scroll down, it will soon become clear that there are a whole host of other filters that haven't been activated.

All you have to do it tap and activate the ones you want to try out, and with 18 secret ones to choose from, your Insta page is about to get a major refresh.

And voila, when you click back out of Manage, there will be a brand new line-up of filters in the Insta-assembly line with your old favourites.

The amount of new choices is pretty amazing, whether you want to brighten up a landscape image or salvage a selfie, there are now so many ways to do it.

The 'what filter?' question is about to get tougher…

It's been almost ten years since Adele got her big break with debut album, 19 and since then, the singer-songwriter has gone from strength to strength.

Every album has shot straight to the top of the charts and the now 29-year-old has travelled the globe, bringing live performance to her fans across the world.

Adele has never been shy about her feelings around touring.

Speaking to the New Zealand Herald earlier this year, the mother-of-one said:

“Touring isn’t something I’m good at… applause makes me feel a bit vulnerable. I don’t know if I will ever tour again."

"The only reason I’ve toured is you. I’m not sure if touring is my bag,” she added.

And it now looks as though Adele os finally ready to leave the stage behind for good. Preferring to leave on a high, the singer has previously described this tour as her “greatest accomplishment in [her] career”, adding, “It's changed my life.”

Kicking off the final shows of her current world tour at London's Wembley Stadium on Wednesday night, Adele reportedly slipped hand written notes into some of the tour programs.

One fan took to Instagram to share the note in full:

Photo by Traci @tracii_m Translation by @wannabeadkins Adele @Adele's letter from her your book! "So this is it after 15 months on the road and 18 months of 25 we are at the end. We have taken this tour across uk+ Ireland, throughout Europe, all over America and I finally got to go to Australia and New Zealand too. Touring is a peculiar thing, it doesn't suit me particularly well. I'm a real homebody and I get so much joy in the small things. Plus I'm dramatic and have a terrible history of touring. Until now that is! I've done 119 shows and these last 4 will take me up to 123, it has been hard out an absolute thrill and pleasure to have done. I only ever did this tour for you and to hopefully have an impact on you the way that some of my favourite artist have had on me live. And I wanted my final shows to be in London because I don't know if I'll ever tour again and so I want my last time to be at home. Thank you for coming, for all of your ridiculous love and kindness. I will remember all of this for the rest of my life. Love you. Goodnight for now" Adele #Adele #Adelettes #AdeleLive2017

Last night was just the first of Adele's Wembley performances so it is still unclear as to whether she will make a formal announcement following the final show.

We also don't know what this means for the future of Adele's music career. Could 25 be the last album from the London songstress?

We certainly hope not.

Can you believe it's been over 10 years since Tina Fey gifted the world with what is arguably her most glorious creation – Mean Girls.

Once in a generation, a movie will come along that will completely change how we speak to and interact with each other, and let's be real, no script has managed to steal the Mean Girls crown just yet.

To be honest, we're not sure it anything could knock it off it's pedestal.

Unless…

Mean Girls sequel anyone?

And no, we're not talking about that 2011 Meaghan Martin version.

We're talking original cast, original writers, and a whole new catalogue of quotes to casually slip into your daily vocabulary.

Unfortunately, there's nothing in the pipeline just yet, but a recent Instagram post by Lindsay Lohan has led some fans to believe that the star might be interested in reviving her old role.

In a post directed at actress, Emma Stone, Lindsay wrote: "Can we film a movie called Mean Girls 2 together? I think we would be friends. It would be #sofetch"

She has since taken down the original Instagram post, but lucky for us, the evidence still remains on Twitter.

Raise your hand if you're personally on board!

Less than 400 people died by suicide in Ireland in 2016, the lowest rates in more than 20 years.

However, while overall levels are down, figures from the National Self-Harm Registry have shown that there was an increase of 6.2 per cent in suicide rates among Irish women, with the biggest rise seen in women over the age of 35.

Rates among men have dropped by 15.2 per cent overall, however, a slight increase was noted in 55-64 year old males.

Figures supplied to the HSE also revealed that the rate of suicide among Irish teenagers is below the European average.

This is in contrast to a recent report that suggested Ireland had the fourth highest rate of teen suicide in the EU region, but according to HSE chief, Tony O'Brien, it is “important to note that this data related to 2010.”

Speaking about the overall 11.5 per cent drop, HSE director for mental health, Anne O'Connor, suggested it was the result of  “a more positive conversation” around the issue.

Green Day are in the city centre ahead of their Kilmainham concert tonight.

The band, who have been spotted around town, took a trip down memory lane on Instagram.

Lead singer, Billie Joe Armstrong, took to the social media site to reminisce about the first time he played in Ireland.

In the post, Billie asked his fans if they can remember the name of the venue where Green Day performed.

"December 1991 we played Dublin Ireland above a pub. For the life of me I can't remember the name of the pub (sic).

"I know they called the gig above the pub 'the attic'… but what was the actual name of the pub? Does anyone remember?" he wrote.

However, he later updated the caption, and wasn't too happy about the franchise that replaced the pub.

the old white horse inn?

"Ugh. It's now a Starbucks.. sorrow. I have a great memory of playing there. No one was allowed to dance in fear of the roof caving in. Everyone was so friendly. Maybe we should bum rush the Starbucks and play a gig there (sic)?!"

The pub in which they played their first gig was called the The White Horse Inn, and we're just as sad as Billie that it is now a Starbucks.

Hungover brunch is one of life's finest, albeit millennial, pastimes.

But sometimes poached eggs just doesn't cut it, and while you'd love a delicious plate of mashed avo, you're secretly gasping for a slightly less-refined greasy pizza.

Luckily, the hipster food Gods have bestowed a completely delightful frankenfood upon us – the avocado pizza.

A post shared by Kola House (@kolahouse) on

Realistically there was nothing stopping us topping our pizzas with a bit of avo in the past, but this gourmet version is giving us life.

The delightful looking flat bread is vegan (of course) so even those on the strictest of lifestyles can enjoy the treat.

Unfortunately, the amazing avo pizza is currently only available in Kola House, and artisanal eatery based in  NYC.

A post shared by Kola House (@kolahouse) on

However, there's nothing that can stop us from rolling out a home made pizza base, slicing an avocado, and garnishing with olive oil and seeds to create our own slice of the action.

Imagine the possibilities – we're already dreaming of topping ours with a crumble of goats cheese to add a bit more of a pizza vibe to the hybrid meal.

Homemade brunch anyone?

In a move which has caused considerable concern among their loyal fanbase, iconic makeup brand, NARS, has confirmed that they have decided to make the brand's products available in China.

As animal testing is mandatory for all cosmetics companies in China, NARS can therefore no longer consider itself a 'cruelty-free' brand.

Having faced a barrage of criticism for their turnabout, the French makeup and skincare brand, which was founded in 1994 by François Nars, addressed the controversy on Instagram.

We want you to know that we hear you. The global elimination of animal testing needs to happen. We firmly believe that product and ingredient safety can be proven by non-animal methods, but we must comply with the local laws of the markets in which we operate, including in China. We have decided to make NARS available in China because we feel it is important to bring our vision of beauty and artistry to fans in the region. NARS does not test on animals or ask others to do so on our behalf, except where required by law. NARS is committed and actively working to advance alternative testing methods. We are proud to support the Institute for In Vitro Sciences (IIVS), a globally recognized organization at the forefront of advancing non-animal methods in China and around the world. NARS is hopeful that together, we can work toward a cruelty-free world. For more on the good work IIVS is doing, see: http://bit.ly/2rVjnwV

"We want you to know that we hear you," they began in the post yesterday.

"The global elimination of animal testing needs to happen. We firmly believe that product and ingredient safety can be proven by non-animal methods, but we must comply with the local laws of the markets in which we operate, including in China."

Offering an explanation for their decision, they continued: "We have decided to make NARS available in China because we feel it is important to bring our vision of beauty and artistry to fans in the region."

"NARS does not test on animals or ask others to do so on our behalf, except where required by law. NARS is committed and actively working to advance alternative testing methods."

Hoping to appease their fans somewhat, they concluded by offering an insight into the strides they hope to make in the field of cruelty-free testing.

"We are proud to support the Institute for In Vitro Sciences (IIVS), a globally recognized organization at the forefront of advancing non-animal methods in China and around the world. NARS is hopeful that together, we can work toward a cruelty-free world."

Their announcement and motivation for the decision has not gone down well on social media, with members of the public announcing they can no longer consider themselves customers.

"So animals' lives are less important than your 'vision of beauty and artistry'," wrote one.

Another added: "This is such BS! Selling out and abandonning ALL values simply for business and money hunger."

'Global elimination of animal testing needs to happen' so why are you allowing this to happen then?"

"Why not refuse to trade unless they change the way they test products? You can't excuse putting the colour of you lipstick over a life." wrote another.

NARS products will remain 'cruelty-free' in other countries.
