The world was left numb when Donald Trump was announced as the next President of the United States, with protests and rallies featuring burning effigies reflecting the outrage that has gripped voters across America.

Hope is not completely lost, though; there is still a REMOTE chance that Hillary could make it to the White House.

No, you haven't just wandered into our deluded daydream; we're serious.

While Trump is now the President-elect of the United States, it has emerged that it was actually Hillary who won the popular vote. That’s right; at last count, she got almost 220,000 more votes than her opponent.

The Electoral College represents the people who actually voted in the election, and under the US Constitution, representatives from this group (there's one for each state) can declare themselves ‘faithless electors’ – and go against the candidate for whom they pledged to vote.

In short, representatives of the Electoral College can vote for another candidate or even abstain from voting when they meet on 19th December – meaning they could rescind their support for Trump.

Now, this scenario is incredibly rare, but in light of the voting figures, it’s giving Hillary fans renewed hope that the Democrat might still be in with a chance.

Look, it’s a long-shot, but it’s SOMETHING.

Chat show hosts and stand-up comedians in the United States have been burdoned with what many would consider an insurmountable task this week.

In a week which will go down in American history for all the wrong reasons, the likes of Jimmy Kimmel, Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Fallon have been relied upon to inject humour into the fact Donald J Trump yesterday became the 45th President of the United States.

But given the understandable anger, distress and frustration felt by millions of American citizens this week, it's not been easy… and yet, they've somehow managed it.

Take Jimmy Kimmel, for example, who acknowledged that for many of his viewers, Trump's election has instigated a process akin to mourning.

Taking that theme and running with it, the uber popular late night host talked his audience through the various stages of grief which he believes they are currently experiencing.

And despite the disheartening subject matter, Jimmy managed to offer up some serious LOLS.

Good man yourself, Jimbo.

Die-hard Mixers went on high alert this week after Jesy Nelson stopped following her fiancé Jake Roche on social media.

And if that wasn't suspicious enough, the 25-year-old Little Mix singer, who already delayed her wedding in recent months, was then spotted out and about without her engagement ring.

Alarm bells went off in all corners of the Little Mix fandom, and it seems they were right to presume the worst because it looks like it's all over between the couple.

According to emerging reports, Jesy was devastated by Jake's lack of enthusiasm for their upcoming wedding and struggled to understand his attitude towards their big day.

"Jesy has gone through an intense amount of soul searching and emotional strain as the wedding plans became more intense – and she just couldn’t go through with it’, a source told LOOK magazine.

It sounds like the former X Factor contestant began doubting the authenticity of her relationship with Jake, and eventually decided it would be better to bring things to an end.

"As the wedding got closer she found herself asking if her and Jake were really as deeply in love as they wanted to think. She texted him and said she doesn’t feel she can go on and needs a break to really work out what she wants in life.’ the insider revealed.

According to the report, Jesy feared that their relationship relied too heavily on external factors.

"She’s been really worried that she was going to start living out her worst nightmare – having a ‘showmance’ marriage where it was more about the careers and the attention than actually really building a life and strong marriage together."

Commenting further on the split, the insider revealed that Jesy focussed her attention on the future and unfortunately realised that they would be unlikely to survive in the long run.

"She wanted to see him taking more interest in the wedding plans, in working out when they were going to try for a baby and basically see him settle down more – and it simply didn’t happen."

Aw Jesy, at least you have your girls right now.

From rainbow hair and glitter roots to baby bangs and balayage, 2016 was the year that Instagram hair trends took over.

With the likes of Kylie Jenner and Lady Gaga changing up their tresses at the drop of a hat, out-there hair has never been hotter.

The latest trend breaking the Internet has got to be glow in the dark hair, with stylist to the stars Guy Tang championing the trend.

A video posted by Guy Tang® (@guy_tang) on

The specialist do' is black light sensitive, illuminating under the lighting and making us seriously nostalgic for the days when glow sticks were an acceptable part of going-out attire.

The look is technically called 'phoenix hair' and is created with unique rainbow hair dye that will definitely resurrect your look from the ashes.

While a luminous look may not be for everyone, the glow is hidden without a black light, keeping it cool as well as crucially wearable.

During the day, the look is still striking, and mimics colourful rainbow hair depending on the chosen shades.

It's only under club lighting that the neon glow comes to life. Catching that lad's eye on the Coppers dance floor will be a cinch.

Some people have taken to recreating the look using neon Sharpie pens, which FYI is not recommended, as the professional neon hair dye used by Tang is very tricky to get your hands on.

Tang recommends doing back-to-back bleaching to lighten the hair as much as possible before applying the kitsch colours.

Don't dismay if this look is officially your new  #hairgoals, alternative brand Arctic Fox, which is renowned for it's out-there colours, has just dropped a fluorescent shade called neon moon, perfect for a DIY glow in the dark hair project.

If imitation is the highest form of flattery, then these Irish bloggers just got the biggest compliment ever.

We all love to pour over the lives of our favourite influencers on Snapchat, but one fan has taken things to the next level.

Comedic genius Doireann Garrihy set up her Facebook page with a bang this week and has already amassed thousands of followers thanks to her hilarious video dedicated to some of Ireland's top personalities.

Doireann's video has gone viral, with over 401k views in less than 24 hours.

The video shows off the radio reporter's spot on impersonations of Pippa Ormond O'Connor, Suzanne Jackson, Joanne Larby and James Kavanagh.

Even the famous Fron of James Butler's Snapchat stories made an appearance.

The comic imitated the blogger's voices and accents perfectly, as well as mimicking their mannerisms and gestures.

James Kavanagh was quick to compliment Doireann, commenting 'give this b**** an Oscar.'

Joanne Larby, aka the Make Up Fairy, also shared the video, saying 'so happy she got my tunes in at the end.'

Ever since Kathryn Thomas announced her engagement earlier this month, we’ve been only DYING to get a proper, up close and personal look at her sparkler.

And the wait is now over.

While celebrating the launch of the Asador Terrace at Dublin’s Asador Restaurant, the much-loved presenter and fitness enthusiast showcased her princess cut diamond engagement ring, and frankly we’re having trouble concentrating on anything else.

Would you LOOK at that sparkler?!

And it sounds like Kathryn, who has been in a relationship with Padraig McLoughlin since 2013, may have had a hand in its choosing.

Reflecting on the months leading up to Padraig’s surprise proposal in Ballyfin House, Kathryn recently said: “We had talked about it on and off for the last six months."

"I might have dropped a few Pinterest pictures. Just a few," she joked.

Well, let’s just say it  – girl’s got serious taste.

We'll be honest – one of the first few things that springs to mind when we think of Lauren Conrad is pastels, pearls and pretty things.

And as far as her Instagram goes, we're not too far off point, but it sounds like she's reined in this side of herself at home if a recent interview with Good Housekeeping is anything to go by.

The former Hills star turned fashion designer explained that when moving in with her husband William Tell, she was encouraged to compromised her girlie side a little bit.

"When we got our first place together, I definitely had to learn to compromise," she admitted.

“I think he’s toned down my girly a little bit, which is good because I’m an adult and everything can’t be pink," she said.

And while she may have been encouraged to curtail her uber-girlie side, it doesn't sound like the 30-year-old minds too much considering the traditions she has gotten in return.

"One of my favourite new traditions, which is from my husband William’s family, is going over on Christmas morning in our pajamas," she told the magazine.

"It’s really sweet – his mom drops off a set for me so we’ll all match.” Lauren added.

Well, that sounds… ahem… cute.

She is undoubtedly the star of the British Royal Family, so we reckon Hollywood’s elite are only lining up to play the role of Kate Middleton.

Well, one very talented lady has emerged victorious: Charlotte Riley.

Charlotte – who is, incidentally, Tom Hardy’s missus – is probably best known for playing the role of May Carleton in Peaky Blinders, and will step into K-Middy’s wedge pumps in the forthcoming BBC2 movie, King Charles III.

Set in the future, when Prince Charles has ascended to the British throne, the movie follows the national controversy that erupts when he refuses to sign a divisive bill into law.

The movie is based on a play script penned by Mike Bartlett, who is the writer behind the genius Doctor Foster – so, basically, it’s going to be amazing.

Clearly, Charlotte is delighted with her new role, saying: “Kate Middleton is a really interesting woman, particularly within the context of this play, and it is a challenge I am really looking forward to.”

You and us both, Charlotte!

This is SO gross, we just can't wrap our heads around it.

A beauty editor from Seventeen has decided to use pizza grease as a make-up remover, and even though she believes it's "a life-changing discovery," it has turned us off our favourite thing on earth – pizza.

Image result for greasy pizza

Now, don't get us wrong, as you probably know we have some major pizza-lovin' here in Shemazing! HQ, and if it was healthy enough, we'd eat it every day of the week.

But #FACT, most pizzas are not healthy, and are indeed, greasy, gloopy messes. So, imagine putting that on your skin?!

Kelsey Stegman made the discovery when she was wearing a Wet'n'Wild matte lipstick, which is basically concrete for your lips.

We'll admit that it did remove the make-up quite swiftly, but there's no hope we'd use it on a day to day basis… or at all, really.

Brad Pitt has made his first red carpet appearance since his former partner, Angelina Jolie, shockingly filed for divorce in September.

Yesterday evening, the 52-year-old star signed autographs for fans at the premiere of his new movie, Allied, before telling E! News that he was thankful for the support of his followers.

“It’s really sweet, everyone has been really kind out here,” said Brad.  “It’s really nice to have all the support.”

The actor’s comments came just hours after TMZ reported that he had been cleared of abuse allegations by the LA County Department of Children and Family Services.

Earlier this week, a rep for Brad’s ex, Angelina, confirmed that the former couple have reached a custody agreement for their six children.

The statement clarified that the Maleficent actress is currently the primary caregiver of Shiloh, Maddox, Zahara, Vivienne, Knox and Pax, who are continuing to attend therapeutic visits with their father.
