barack obama

With the U.S. presidential election heading into its final month, current president Barack Obama has been continuing to charm the world as he celebrates his 24th wedding anniversary with his wife Michelle today.

POTUS took to social media to mark the occasion with a sweet picture of the pair dancing with the caption:

“Dancing though 24 years. Happy Anniversary.”

The pair met back in 1989 when Michelle worked as an adviser to Barack at a Chicago law firm.

It certainly wasn’t love at first sight as Michelle declined his requests for a date however he persisted and three years late, the couple were married.

Previously labelled as sinister folk not to be trusted, left-handed people these days are somewhat more celebrated.

That and, despite living in a world that is very much designed for their right-handed counterparts – they have some pretty high-profile compatriots.

Yup, from Barack Obama, to Prince William and Oprah Winfrey and Bill Gates – if you're more inclined to use your left hand then you're certainly in good company.

Here, SHEmazing brings you the FIVE really great reasons why it's actually the best:

1) You earn more money (if you're a man):

According to studies, left-handed males who have gone to university earn 13 percent more than their right-handed counterparts.

Although oddly the results are quite different for women: they earn 5 percent less than women who are right-handed.

2) Half of all cats are left-handed:

Anything from 10 – 30 percent of humans are left-handed (depending on where you are in the world and what research you look at) – but not so for felines.

Yes, 50 percent of cats are left-pawed, according to studies.

3) You're a natural leader:

Five of the last seven US presidents – Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, George HW Bush, Ronald Reagan, and Gerald Ford – are or were left-handed.

They're well-represented in royal circles too, examples include Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Charles, and Prince William.

4) You have to overcome adversity:

From birth, you're being trained to think outside the standard right-handed box – something which helps you develop all sorts of skills that in turn encourages you navigate better the challenges of life.

Indeed, a combination of environmental forces and neurobiology combine to make lefties predisposed to be trailblazers.

5) You see better underwater:

Bizarre but true: when you’re underwater left-handed folk see better. It's not quite clear why this is so, scientists think it has something to do with a different part of the brain being dominant in left-handed individuals.

Ah, summer jobs. We all remember our first job, whether it was during a school summer or when you first went out to the big bad world.

We landed jobs in restaurants, retail, in a cinema – pretty much anything we could get our hands on that would give us a bit of bob to spend on the weekends.

Well, now it's time for Sasha Obama to work her first job, and even though she's the daughter of a world leader, her first employment role isn't as snazzy as you'd think it would be.

Sasha is going to spend her summer working as a cashier at a seafood restaurant.

However, according to the Boston Herald, she'll have six secret service members looking over her.

We all have to start somewhere!

Friendship bracelets were ALL the rage back in the day, and it was very serious stuff when you gave one to your BFF.

Well, as Obama turned 55 this week, he received a very special gift from his BFF and VP, Joe Biden.

In possibly the cutest gift ever given, Joe gave Barack a friendship bracelet with 'Joe' and 'Barack' written on it as well as a flower, a star, a pizza and a smiley face.

In a tweet that showed off the thoughtful present, Jow said: "Happy 55th, Barack! A brother to me, a best friend forever."

OMG. WE DIE.

Not that we needed another reason to adore Barack Obama, but having proclaimed himself a feminist yesterday, we can't help but love him more.

President of The United States, Barack Obama, who recently celebrated his 55th birthday, has written a powerful essay for Glamour magazine on feminism and women’s long struggle for equality.

"Gender stereotypes affect all of us, regardless of our gender, gender identity, or sexual orientation."

Obama

He speaks about how the important people in his life have always been women, so he has lived a life recognising gender discrimination.

As a father to two young women, the struggle of gender equality is something that is very close to Obama's heart, and a cause he fights for daily.

"You feel the enormous pressure girls are under to look and behave and even think a certain way."

In this 1500 word essay, the President celebrated the progress that women have made over the past century, while also promising to work on securing equal pay and reproductive rights for women in America.

"There’s still a lot of work we need to do to improve the prospects of women and girls here and around the world" he wrote.

The President wrote about the importance of changing people's attitudes toward women and men, with regards to stereotypes.

The point he makes is that women should be able to work full time, and men can actually be stay-at-home dads, and nobody (male or female) should be judged for their life chocies.

"We need to keep changing the attitude that punishes women for their sexuality and rewards men for theirs"

Ultimately his message is clear… we all need to stand up for equality, and raise our children and grandchildren to do the same.

"Michelle and I have raised our daughters to speak up when they see a double standard or feel unfairly judged based on their gender or race"

His closing statement is simple, yet hard hitting: "That’s what twenty-first century feminism is about: the idea that when everybody is equal, we are all more free."

What a man!

Completely defining the meaning of #couplegoals, Michelle and Barack Obama have always melted our hearts with their love.

Well, today is no exception as the POTUS celebrates his 55th birthday.

Michelle took to Instagram this afternoon to wish her dashing husband a very happy birthday, and it made us all cry.

Michelle shared a beautiful image of herself and her husband in a loving embrace, with the words: "55 years young and that smile still gets me every single day. Happy birthday, Barack. I love you. -mo"

Followers were quick to comment on the pic with their well wishes…

"Happy birthday to the best Commander in Chief I ever had!" wrote one particular fan of The Obamas.

"Happy birthday World"s Best! Keep being an Inspiration!"

Michelle and Barack met in 1989, and the couple married three years later in a small ceremony.

CUTIES.

It was a rousing speech by any – even his own – standards: Barack Obama implored the USA to make sure that Hillary Clinton becomes the nation's first female president when voters go to the polls in November.

And, as the current US president is delightfully want to do, Barack veered away from the prepared script somewhat while addressing the Democratic party national conference yesterday.

"Nothing truly prepares you for the demands of the Oval Office," he said. "But Hillary’s been in the room; she’s been part of those decisions. She knows what’s at stake.

"No matter how daunting the odds; no matter how much people try to knock her down, she never, ever quits," he added.

Sitting proudly in the audience of thousands was, of course, Bill Clinton, Hillary's husband of 40-odd years and a former POTUS himself.

"That’s the Hillary I know. That’s the Hillary I’ve come to admire,"  Barack continued to applause.

"And that’s why I can say with confidence there has never been a man or a woman – not me, not Bill, nobody – more qualified than Hillary Clinton to serve as president of the United States of America.

Significantly, when Mr Obama offered up the "not me, not Bill" line – which wasn't actually in his speech – Mr Clinton's face broke into a sheepish grin.

And when the cheers had died down, Obama added: "I hope you don't mind, Bill, I was just telling the truth!"

It's safe to say that Michelle Obama gave a riveting and inspirational speech at the Democratic National Convention last night.

Bringing the crowd to tears, she spoke about the importance of electing a good-hearted, qualified and strong president to which her daughters could look up to.

And taking to Twitter early this morning, Obama made our hearts melt by congratulating his wife.

He wrote: "Incredible speech by an incredible woman. Couldn't be more proud & our country has been blessed to have her as FLOTUS. I love you, Michelle."

We. Can't. Deal.

We're going to come right out and say it – we adore the Obama family.

From the President's drop the mic public addresses to the First Lady's decision to ride shotgun with James Corden, the Obama family are the family you WISH you had if only everyone could just play it cool for five damn seconds.

And yet while President Obama broke the mould in so many, many ways, he remains steadfast in his traditional approach to one particular job – fatherhood.

Reminding the public that you can be schlick as a world leader but a total goon when it comes to your children, good ol' Barack decided to serenade his oldest daughter during yesterday's 4th of July celebrations in the White House, and we cannot get enough.

From his God-awful singing voice to the appreciative-but-please-stop side hug Malia goes for, this is just too adorable.

Ladies, fast forward to 4.00 for that oh-so-golden moment…

Malia Obama is quickly becoming one of our major girl crushes.

Her style is the envy of us all here at SHEmazing! HQ, plus she lives in the White House, and that is – in fairness – pretty sweet.

Having recently being accepted into Harvard (How fancy), Malia has decided to take a gap year before embarking on her college journey in 2017.

And how does the daughter of the American President spend a gap year? Interning in Spain…obvs.

According to ABC Spain, Malia has locked down an internship in the U.S Embassy in Madrid.

The Obama family recently visited Cuba, where Malia had a chance to show of her flair for the Spanish language, even acting as an unofficial translator for her Dad.

Malia, 18, along with her sister Sasha, were named two of "The 25 Most Influential Teens of 2014" by TIME magazine.

The sisters have been complimented by the press numerous times for their amazing style, and manner as children of the world's most powerful man.

We are expecting really great things from these Obama women, and who knows, one of them could run for president in the years to come!

Buena suerte (good luck), Malia!

Barack Obama hasn’t been afraid to let loose on TV during his two terms as president and last night’s appearance on The Tonight Show was no different.

With his eight years in office coming to an end, Obama decided to run through the progress he's made so far – but unlike your average presidential speech, this one was delivered through song.

As the first active president to appear on the show, Obama “slow jammed the news” with host Jimmy Fallon in a smooth duet which not only slags Donald Trump but sees "Baracky with the good hair" do his best Rihanna impression.

You know what they say: “Once you go Barack, you never go back.”

Everyone knows that Barack Obama is possibly the coolest president to walk the face of the earth.

Whether it's roasting Donald Trump or getting his Guinness on in local pubs, Barack Obama is the president we all want to be.

So, it's no surprise that this lad sounds every bit as slick as Ri-Ri when his public addresses are manipulated to make him sound like he's getting his Work on.

Props to the good folk behind baracksdubs who have made us love this stomper of a tune even more.

Take it away, Mr. President.
