Muireann O'Connell has been confirmed as the new presenter of Today FM's lunchtime slot.

The broadcaster, who was originally drafted in on a temporary basis in November 2017, will permanently replace the show's previous host, Al Porter, who stepped down in the wake of allegations of inappropriate behaviour.

Muireann, who is best-known for co-hosting The Six O'Clock Show on TV3, is no stranger to the Irish airwaves.

With over 12 years of broadcasting experience, the Limerick native has worked with a number of radio station including Spin South West and Dublin's 98FM.

Commenting on the news, Muireann said, "I have loved Today FM for as long as I remember and the idea of ever getting to work here was something I never imagined would happen. I love this place and everyone who works here and I can’t wait to get stuck in.”

Keith McCormack, CEO of Today FM, also said: “We’re delighted to welcome Muireann to the daytime line up on Today FM. Listeners will already be familiar with Muireann from her various roles on the station, notably her hugely successful ‘Saturday Hits’ show.”

“Muireann is an extremely talented broadcaster and presenter and on behalf of the Today FM team, I’d like to extend our best wishes to her as she takes up the midday mantel. We have big plans in 2018 for the station and look forward to sharing these with our listeners.”

Muireann's new show will run from 12pm to 1.30pm daily on Today FM.

We can't wait to listen!

From his combative approach to press conferences to his linguistic gymnastics, Sean Spicer's six-month stint as the White House Press Secretary won't be forgotten in a hurry.

Satirised so brilliantly by Melissa McCarthy on Saturday Night Live, the 46-year-old New Yorker became somewhat of a pop culture phenomenon.

And he's set to appear on this week's Late Late Show.

Commenting on the highly-anticipated appearance, Ryan Tubridy said: "Donald Trump’s presidency is one of the most fascinating and extraordinary things to happen in our lifetime. Sean Spicer was right there watching it all in a front row seat."

"I am really looking forward to getting his first-hand account of what it was like to be there in that White House with the world’s media watching and his insights into what’s really going on in Trumpland.”

Undoubtedly, a key public figure in the early days of Donald Trump’s White House, Spicer will be giving viewers the lowdown on what it was like to be part of one of the most controversial US presidencies in history.

In an Irish television exclusive, Spicer will be talking about finding himself at the centre of a global media storm after his first outing facing the press in the White House and why he still believes he was right to claim that Trump’s inauguration was the biggest ever.

He’ll also be taking viewers through his six months in the eye of the storm, including what he really thinks about Melissa's infamous impression of him, and why he ultimately decided to resign.

Unsurprisingly, talk is set to turn to the embarrassing revelations in Michael Wolff’s book Fire and Fury and why he believes they may not be entirely accurate.

If you want to find out if Spicer still supports Trump or whether he believes he will win another four years in the White House in 2020, tune in this Friday night, ladies!

Gender pay gaps in the entertainment industry (or any industry for that matter) are sadly nothing new, but the sheer scale of the latest discrepancy has left people furious.

It's been reported that Michelle Williams was paid just $80 per day to reshoot scenes for Ridley Scott's All the Money in the World – less than one per cent of Mark Wahlberg's reported fee of $200,000 per day.

The film had originally starred Kevin Spacey, however after a series of allegations emerged claiming that the star had sexually harassed a number of young males, Ridley made the immediate decision to re-cast Christopher Plummer in the leading role.

As a result, a total of 22 scenes needed to be reshot over the course of 10 days at the cost of $10 million.

An report published in The Washington Post last November reported that Mark Wahlberg had been paid “at last $2 million” for the extra work, while Michelle Williams was paid “a figure in the hundreds of thousands of dollars.”

This claim was later rubbished by the director to told the publication that “everyone did it for nothing,” adding, “they all came in for free.”

However, a tweet from Melissa Silverstein has raised the question of payments once again, with claims that Michelle took home a tiny fraction of her co-star's salary.

“On the day after display of female power at the #goldenglobes, I learned that there was an egregious pay gap between Michelle Williams and Mark Wahlberg for the All The Money In The World reshoot,” she wrote.

In an article published today by USA Today, three people “familiar with the situation but not authorised to speak publicly” said Wahlberg was paid $1.5 million in total for the reshoots and Williams was paid just $80 per day, less than $1000 in total.

Needless to say, the news has sparked outrage across the Twittershpere.

It has been established that eight units of the brigade are currently tending to a fire at a recycling plant off the Ballymun Road in St Margarets in the north of the city.

Taking to Twitter with images from the scene, Dublin Fire Brigade wrote: "We now have 8 units attending the St Margarets / Sandyhill fire near the airport including aerial ladder & foam unit."

"We're getting increased water supply assistance from @Fingalcoco at the recycling plant fire in St Margarets / Sandyhill," they added moments later,

While plumes of smoke can be seen emerging from the premises, the fire isn't said to have effected any flights.

After veteran artist, P Diddy, joined rapper, The Weeknd, and basketball star, Le Bron James, in their criticism of a recent H&M ad which appeared to communicate racist sentiments, the I'll Be Missing You singer decided to go one step further.

According to emerging reports this morning, Diddy has plans to hire the young model for his own clothing line, Sean John.

In fact, it has been claimed that the 48-year-old star is set to offer the child model a one million dollar contract on the back of this week's worldwide controversy.

Taking to Instagram to express his distaste for the retailer's ill-advised design and shoot yesterday, the New York-native wrote: "Put some respect on it!"

"When you look at us make sure you see royalty and super natural God sent glory!! Anything else is disrespectful."

Diddy shared a reimagined image of the shoot, which replaced the words 'monkey' and 'jungle' with the words 'king' and 'world'.

While P Diddy's representatives have yet to comment on the reports, it would make for a pretty upbeat development on the whole sorry saga.

H&M have since apologised, issuing a statement, saying: "We are deeply sorry that the picture was taken, and we also regret the actual print. Therefore, we have not only removed the image from our channels, but also the garment from our product offering globally.”

First Dates Ireland, a.k.a the crown jewel of RTÉ's winter schedule, made its highly-anticipated return to television screens across the country last night, and if the first episode is anything to go by, we're in for an outrageously awkward few months.

The first pairing of the night saw the larger-than-life Jackie, the owner of Dublin's Marilyn Monroe Mansion, get acquainted with quiet Carlow man, Joey.

No one would blame you for thinking these two were a bit of an odd match, but everything made sense when Joey's post-date interview revealed that he had been on the market for a 'Scary Spice.'

Next up was arguably the show's most awkward pairing to date – Leigh and Samuel.

Between calling his best friend a b*tch, to outright insulted his hairstyle, it was apparent from the beginning that Samuel wasn't feeling any connection.

In fact, the whole date was just a train wreck, really.

The biggest reaction of the night came courtesy of Niamh and Izzy.

A seemingly decent match, Twitter just wasn't having it when Izzy, 22, just couldn't past the fact that Niamh, 19, was a fell THREE years younger than her.

First Dates Ireland returns to RTÉ2 next Tuesday, January 16.

James Franco has spoken publicly for the first time following multiple allegations of sexual misconduct.

In recent weeks, a number of women have come forward claiming that the actor acted inappropriately towards them.

In a series of now deleted tweets, actress Ally Sheedy, who James directed in an Off Broadway production of The Long Shift, asked why the actor was even allowed to attend the Golden Globes ceremony, let alone win the Best Actor actor award for his performance in The Disaster Artist.

“James Franco just won. Please never ask me why I left the film/tv business,” she wrote.

“Ok wait. Bye. Christian Slater and James Franco at a table on @goldenglobes #MeToo”

Finishing of the thread, Ally asked: “Why is a man hosting? Why is James Franco allowed in? Said too much. Nite love ya #goldenglobes.” (sic)

Also speaking out against Franco was Violet Paley, who claimed that the 39-year-old actor had assaulted her in the back of a car and aksed her friend to come to his hotel room when she was just 17.

Violet followed with another tweet saying how James had called to offer her an "apology," though she did not accept.

During an appearance on Tuesday's The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, James was asked to address the claims that had been made against him after he was heavily criticised for wearing a Time’s Up pin in support of sexual harassment and assault awareness at the Golden Globe Awards.

“I haven’t read them. I’ve heard about them,” he told the host.

“I have no idea what I did to Ally Sheedy, I directed her in a play Off-Broadway. I had nothing but a great time with her, total respect for her. I have no idea why she was upset.”

“She took the tweet down. I don’t know. I can’t speak for her, I don’t know.”

He went on to say how the allegations were not accurate, claiming that he prides himself on being able to take responsibility for his actions.

“The others… look, in my life, I pride myself on taking responsibility for things that I’ve done. I have to do that to maintain my well-being. I do it whenever I know that there is something wrong or needs to be changed, I make it a point to do it,” the Oscar-nominated star said.

“The things that I heard that were on Twitter are not accurate, but I completely support people coming out and being able to have a voice because they didn’t have a voice for so long,” he continued.

“So I don’t want to, you know, shut them down in any way. It’s, I think, a good thing and I support it.”

Adding: “They had a lot to say, and I’m here to listen and learn and change my perspective where it’s off, and I’m completely willing and want to.”

Radiohead's publishers have spoken out in the wake of claims that Lana Del Rey copied parts of their song Creep, saying that band have no plans to take the singer to court.

A tweet posted by Lana on Monday January 8 claimed that Thom Yorke and his bandmates would only accept 100 per cent of the publishing for her song Get Free, which they say bares striking similarities to their 1993 hit.

The singer also reportedly told the audience at one of her concerts that the alleged lawsuit could result in the song being removed from her most recent album, Lust for Life.

Speaking to music website Pitchfork, a spokesperson for publisher Warner/Chappell said:

“As Radiohead's music publisher, it's true that we've been in discussions since August of last year with Lana Del Rey's representatives.”

They went onto explain how while a request was made to credit the writers of Creep, the claim that Radiohead would only accept 100 per cent of publishing was completely false.

“It's clear that the verses of Get Free use musical elements found in the verses of Creep and we've requested that this be acknowledged in favour of all writers of Creep.”

“To set the record straight, no lawsuit has been issued and Radiohead have not said they 'will only accept 100%' of the publishing of Get Free.”

Lana has yet to respond to the latest development.

As a precaution, a quiet residential area off the town was sealed off, with approximately 30 to 40 people evacuated from the properties.

Local Independent councillor Kevin Callan praised the work of the Gardaí.

It's potentially the moment we have all been waiting for – no, not Trump's impeachment, Kylie Jenner's pregnancy announcement.

It seems that Kylie Jenner's reign of silence might be over a lot sooner than we thought, and in exactly the way we expected.

The latest trailer for KUWTK seems yo indicate that there is a major announcement on the horizon.

A post shared by Kylie (@kyliejenner) on

Actually, the anticipated announcement is so major that it needs a special double-episode just to be revealed.

This week, two new episodes of KUWTK will be aired, one on Sunday as usual and a bonus episode on Monday.

'Because when it comes to making announcements, the family’s got news so big we need Sunday and Monday just to cover it,' the voiceover says.
