Figures from Women's Aid, Ireland's national domestic support organisation, show that 19,000 contacts were made to the domestic abuse support service in 2016.

As well as reports of domestic abuse, there were nearly 4,000 disclosures of child abuse, according to RTE.

The service launched its extended National Freephone Helpline as a 24 hours a day, 7 days a week service in September 2016, and this is the first report since that time.

96 per cent of callers were women, while 4 per cent were men.

In regards to domestic abuse, the helpline saw a 70 per cent jump in calls logged, with 16,946 disclosures of domestic violence against women noted compared to 9,000 the year previously.

11,000 of these calls were about emotional abuse, 3,500 were disclosures of assault and almost 700 were reports of rape, according to the report.

I'm sorry, did we miss something?

Having just recently welcomed a baby boy into the world, Liam Payne and Cheryl (whatever she's calling herself these days) are more loved-up than ever, but Liam's latest comments have left everyone wondering if the couple are actually MARRIED!

Earlier today, the 23-year-old referred to Cheryl as his 'wife' and as expected, the rumour mill was sent into overdrive.

In an interview with SiriusXM this morning, the former One Direction star jokingly said that he left his ''wife and child'' in the UK just so he could eat at In ‘N’ Out Burger.

Now, it could have been a simple slip of the tongue, but the comment certainly sent fans into a frenzy.

The couple remained tight-lipped throughout Cheryl pregnancy, so it's entirely possible the pair chose to tie the knot in secret.

So what do you think? Could the rumours be true?

Either way, we can't imagine Cheryl is too impressed right now.

So, Instagram launched four very exciting features today, including the addition of some very snapchat-esque face filters.

Their press release reads: "Today, we're introducing face filters in the camera, an easy way to turn an ordinary selfie into something fun and entertaining."

"Whether you're sitting on the couch at home or out and about, face filters help you express yourself and have playful conversations with friends."

We're having some fun with the new Instagram #facefilters today what do you think of them?

A post shared by Bottle (@wearebottle) on

Sound familiar?

The first set of face filters will include things like, furry koala ears, golden crowns and maths equations swirling around your head.

The feature is accessible by simply tapping the new icon at the bottom right corner of the screen, and just like Snapchat, some filters work when more than one person is in frame.

But that's not all.

The image sharing platform has rolled out three more "creative tools"  for us to play with – 'Hashtag stickers', 'Eraser brush' and 'Rewind'.

Hashtag stickers allow the user to decorate their stories while linking back to other Instagram content.

The new 'Eraser brush' gives you the ability to remove certain sections of you doodles.

While the new 'Rewind' setting allows you to record and share videos in reverse.

Of course, Snapchat filters will always have a special place in our hearts, but we have to admit, we're pretty excited to try these out.

So, the reigning queen of US daytime television, Ellen DeGeneres had a bit of an embarrassing slip us yesterday.

The talk show host left the audience cringing when she completely forgot about Katy Perry and Russell Brand's two-year-long marriage.

As as guest on the show, Katy was asked to play a game called 'Will You Perry Me?' – a quick fire round where the singer was asked to choose which celebrities she would rather date.

Before starting, Katy made a joke about having to get married again, to which Ellen very awkwardly replied, "You weren't married!"

The singer then reminded Ellen of her fleeting marriage to Russell Brand and even referred to the wedding gifts she had given her in 2010.

Fortunately they were able to swiftly move past the blunder with Katy joking, "It's been a long time, honey. No wrinkles, no lines!"

Fashion giant Chanel are facing heavy criticism after it was revealed that a €1,260 boomerang is being sold as part of the brand's SS17 collection.

The 'luxury sporting accessory' has sparked huge online backlash with some Twitter users labelling the item as insensitive towards indigenous Australian culture.

On Monday, US makeup artist, Jeffree Star displayed the boomerang on various social media outlets, with the message:  “Having so much fun with my new @Chanel boomerang.”

The images ignited a huge online debate and users were quick to accuse Chanel of cultural appropriation.

According to The Guardian, one person wrote: “[it] humiliates a whole culture”.

“I am from Australia and I am offended that a company would make a joke out of something that was used as a weapon for survival.”

Speaking to The Guardian, a Chanel representative said the company was “extremely committed to respecting all cultures, and regrets that some may have felt offended.”

Other outrageously overpriced items featuring in the SS17 collection include, a set of three tennis balls (€514), a racket (€2003) and a set of beach paddles and balls (€4386).

Following last month's Netfilx hacking scandal, it has now emerged that Disney's upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar's Revenge could be the latest film to be held at ransom.

Disney CEO, Bob Iger, revealed the news yesterday.

The Pirates of the Caribbean franchise has already earned the studio over four billion euro and it is not yet known how the potential leak will effect box office ratings.

A teenager has collapsed and died at a school in the United States after consuming a high level of caffeine.

The family of the teen are warning about the dangers of excessive caffeine intake, according to Breaking News.

David Allen Cripe drank a coffee, a large fizzy drink and an energy drink in the space of two hours, and suffered from a 'caffeine-induced cardiac event.'

The 16-year-old didn't have an undiagnosed heart condition, the coroner confirmed.

'Parents please, talk to your kids about the dangers of these energy drinks,' David's father Seán said.

'Teenagers and students, please stop buying them.'

'There’s no reason to consume then, they can be very dangerous.'

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that adolescents, age 12 to 18, should not consume more than 100 milligrams of caffeine per day.

As women, there is a distinct pressure to wear makeup to look our best, and yet there is also a culture of shaming women for wearing 'too much' makeup.

The double standard is less than pleasing, and for some women, painting their faces is an empowering and creative endeavour.

One such woman is Kerry Whittaker, who recently penned a powerful and truthful post about an instance of makeup shaming she experienced at her job as a checkout cashier.

'Why are girls so nasty?' she began her Facebook post about the incident.

'So I'm sat in work today minding my own, and I over hear a woman talking to what I presume is her 14 yr old daughter and they're sniggering laughing saying "have you seen the state on that? Who comes to work to sit on a checkout looking like that.. don't know who she thinks she is."'

'1st of all why would you find that acceptable? I'm not harming nobody. Would you say the same about a girl who has problems with her skin and spots on her face. I doubt it.'

'2nd, why don't you lead by example to your daughter about empowering other women rather than tearing them down. In this society the last thing we need to be doing to each other as humans is judging people based on looks.'

'3rd, when you can do a cut crease as sick as this then come back to me and tell me I look like sh*t.'

Kerry is clearly a makeup maverick, and her response to the unnecessary comments is completely golden.

Kim Kardashian's assistant Stephanie Shepherd basically runs the mum-of-two's life from her smartphone.

She's the girl slightly in the background of the paparazzi photos, keeping the Kardahian's schedule running smoothly.

As well as managing Kim's life since 2013, the 29-year-old has become fast friends with the entire family.

The now COO of Kardashian West Brands opened up to Refiney 29 about what it's like to work for the most famous reality TV star in the biz.

According to Stephanie, it's a constant stream of work and travel, but with a communal, family feel.

Reflecting on what ahe has learnt from the Kardashian matriarch Kris Jenner, Stephanie had this to say:

A post shared by STEPHANIE ANN SHEPHERD (@steph_shep) on

'If you're a procrastinator, this is not the world for you.'

'If someone tells her no, she has no problem standing her ground and saying, "We're not accepting that, get someone on the phone and make it happen."'

'That woman can literally get on the phone and change the world.'

'And somehow, she juggles all of these kids, all of their careers, and still makes sure that every assistant, every staff member, has a Christmas present, delivered to us by Christmas, with a thoughtful card.'

'And it’s a nice ass Christmas present. That’s the kind of person I aspire to be one day.'

Who run the world? Kris Jenner, apparently.

Research which has just been developed at NUI Galway could improve the treatment of breast cancer.

The experts behind the research are looking at specific genetic factors that control how quickly cancer spreads, according to Breaking News.

The scientists are focusing on the Herv K gene, which has associations with tumour development.

'We are hoping we can develop biomarkers for a start, so we can better understand which women have an aggressive disease versus having quite a non-aggressive one,' said Dr Sharon Glynn from NUI Galway.

This assessment will give doctors a better idea of the treatment needed by patients.

'If we know that, we can better decide should people should people receive particular chemotherapies.'
