So, it's been 20 years since James Camerons' Titanic told the ultimate romantic tragedy of fictional couple Jack and Rose – or at least that's what we thought.

It has now emerged that the couple's fleeting romance may actually be based on true life events after a man claimed that his story was 'stolen' for the film's lead character, Jack Dawson.

According to reports, Florida native, Stephen Cummings, has claimed he is the inspiration behind one of Leonardo DiCaprio's most famous roles.

Documents suggest that the director heard about Stephen's story through word of mouth about events that took place in Brevard County in 1988 and 1989.

What's more is that he claims the famous sinking scenes were not based on history, but rather the stories he told about two relatives who dies on board the ship – the wife survived and the husband did not.

Hmmm… we can't imagine this one detail is enough for Stephen to make his case, especially seeing as he's looking $300 million and 1 per cent of royalties.

What a chancer.

There's a high chance you have been recommended a must-see TED Talk at least once, but if you're unfamiliar with the platform, it's high-time you acquainted yourself.

Working under the slogan 'Ideas Worth Spreading', TED, which stands for Technology, Entertainment and Design, is a media organisation established in 1984.

With conferences held all over the world, platforms are provided to leading names across countless industries to share their ideas, observations and advice with a rapt audience.

In recent years Ted Talks have seen a surge in popularity after they became freely available online, with more than one billion talks having been viewed worldwide as of 2012.

And here are just five of the most enlightening and thought-provoking ones which we return to again and again.

1. We Should All be Feminists

"We teach girls that they can have ambition, but not too much … to be successful, but not too successful, or they'll threaten men."

If you only recognise this line from a Beyoncé track, it's about time you watched the Ted Talk from which it originated.

Nigerian-born author, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, initiated a worldwide discussion on feminism when she took to the stage back in 2011, and you'd be hard-pressed to find a more inspirational speaker.

2. My Story

In front of a riveted audience at a Ted Talk conference at the University of Nevada, Elizabeth Smart recalled her abduction at the age of 14 and the nine-month horror which ensued.

Providing an insight into an experience beyond all our worst nightmares, Elizabeth encouraged her audience to show courage in the face of adversity, bravery in the face of turmoil and determination in the face of hardship.

Receiving a standing ovation from those gathered, Elizabeth's talk will leave you feeling more galvanised than you might ever imagine.

3. Our Story of Rape and Reconciliation

Featuring Thordis Elva and Tom Stranger, this TedTalk is perhaps one of the most discussed this year.

Reflecting on their teenage relationship which began when Tom, a native of Australia, met Thordis on a student exchange programme in Iceland, these two speakers reveal that an 18-year-old Tom raped a 16-year-old Thordis following a night out.

Immediately parting ways, Thordis was left to pick up the pieces and struggled massively in the years that followed while Tom spent much of his adult years burying his shame and refusing to acknowledge his heinous act.

In a turn of events which many may struggle to comprehend, Thordis and Tom established a relationship via online correspondence, and spent years discussing the night which changed both their lives forever.

4.  The Secret of Becoming Mentally Strong

If you've ever found yourself looking longingly at someone else's life or feel that despite your best efforts, things just refuse to fall into place for you, this Ted Talk is for you.

Delivered by Amy Morin, a clinical social worker and psychotherapist, this talk reminds us that everyone has the ability to build their mental strength by eradicating bad habits along with building positive ones.

Drawing on her own devastating experiences, Amy provides her audience with three basic elements needed to build mental health and reach your greatest potential.

5. Conquering Depression: How I Became My Own Hero

Delivered by a high school student named Hunter Kent, this talk is a reflecting on the speaker's own experience of depression and self-harm.

Sharing an insight into the condition which at times crippled her, Hunter seeks to encourage people who have found themselves in a similar position.

Facebook’s guidelines regarding what sort of content its users can post on the site have been revealed for the first time.

An investigation carried out by The Guardian examined more than 100 internal training manuals, spreadsheets and flowcharts to gain a better insight into how the social networking giant polices its users on issues such as violence, hate speech, terrorism, racism and self-harm.

A source told The Guardian: “Facebook cannot keep control of its content. It has grown too big, too quickly.”

There are concerns about the inconsistency of some policies, in particular, those surrounding the uploading of sexual content.

The documents obtained by the newspaper pointed out several shocking truths about Facebook’s policing strategy including the revelation that videos of abortions are allowed – as long as there is no nudity.

However, the leaked documents also showed the company are taking measures to improve policies, even if it they are only implemented following public pressure.

New guidelines were put in place following last year’s controversy over a picture taken during the Vietnam war that was removed from the site because the girl in the picture was naked.

According to The Guardian, Facebook now allow for “newsworthy exceptions” under its “terror of war” guidelines.

The investigation could not have come at a worse time for the social networking site as it faces mounting public pressure to disallow the publishing of disturbing Facebook Live content such as murders and sexual assaults.

It’s a tricky one for the company as they say they are trying to respect their users’ freedom of expression.

If you're due to use the Red Line Luas this morning, it might be worth considering an alternative mode of transport.

According to the tram operator's social media feed, the Luas has experienced technical difficulties on the route which serves the city centre.

Following numerous updates, the latest post, which was uplaoded 20 minutes ago, confirms that the Red Line Luas is running from Tallaght/ Saggart to Smithfield only.

Tram operators have assured customers that tickets will be accepted on Dublin Bus.

Customers have wasted no time communicating their displeasure with the lack of communication in the wake of the technical disruption.

"My luas ticket was rejected to be used on the Dublin bus, awful system that you have, and I want my money back, wrote one member of the public.

"Are you making announcements at the other stops? I had to tell someone who was visually impaired! No announcements and unable to see sign," highlighted another.

The Green Line service is operating normally.

Drake was the big winner at the 2017 Billboard Music awards in Las Vegas last night.

The Canadian star took home an incredible 13 trophies, setting a new record for the most awards claimed by one artist. The record was previously held by Adele who went home with 12 prizes in 2012.

The rapper walked away with a host of coveted titles including, Best Artist, Best Male Artist and Best Rapper.

The top artist award was presented to the One Dance singer by Prince Michael Jackson, the son of the late singer.

Upon accepting the award, Drake tipped his hat to Adele saying, "I just want to say hold tight Adele because when a new thing drops you will crawl your way back to get the record back."

Other highlights of the night included a live performance from Cher who took to the stage in a diamond clad ensemble for an energetic rendition of hit singles Believe and If I Could Turn Back Time.

Another throwback moment saw Celine Dion give a powerful performance of her classic hit My Heart Will Go On which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. (Yes, that also means it’s been 20 years since Jack and Rose broke our hearts, and we’re still not over it.)

There’s was a moment of silence for Audioslave and Soundgarden singer Chris Cornell, who sadly passed away last week at the age of 52.

Miley Cyrus, John Legend, The Chainsmokers and Lorde also performed on the night.

Okay, so it's been teasing us for weeks, but it looks like summer could finally be here.

After an underwhelming week of overcast skies and showers you'll be happy to know that the good weather is set to return with Met Éireann promising ''drier, brighter, fresher weather'' in the coming days.

Monday will see some scattered showers, moderate southwest winds and evening temperatures of 15 to 20 degrees.

Cloud will remain until Tuesday morning before clearing in the afternoon, making way for sunny spells and highs of 20 degrees.

The warm weather is expected to remain from Wednesday to Friday, with most areas enjoying sunny conditions.

It's looking like Wednesday will be the best day of the week as temperatures set to reach up to 23 degrees.

This weekend, Beyoncé and her famous squad, consisting of her ex band mates and family, got all dressed-up for a festive baby shower, which was named the "Carter Push Party."

Some of the well-known faces that attended the baby shower celebrations were Queen Bey's best friend Kelly Rowland, her sister Solange, Destiny's Child member Michelle Williams, and Serena Williams, who is also currently expecting.

The Love on Top singer's mum, Tina Lawson, shared a video from inside the party on her Instagram account, showing all the guests shouting: "Happy Carter Push Party!"

You can't beat a good cuppa tea.

Whether you bring tea bags away on holiday with you (guilty), or just love a good catch-up over a cuppa in the office, there's nothing better than sitting back with that toasty cup in your hand.

Now, we know we're a nation obsessed with tea, so supermarket chain Tesco decided to conduct a survey to find out which province in Ireland likes it the most.

Black Ceramic Cup With Smoke Above

*Drumroll*

Well, Connaught took the top spot, with 82 per cent of residents stating they are obsessed, and to further that, one-third of these said that they drink more than five cups everyday.

In second place is Ulster, with 78 per cent pledging their allegiance to the beverage, while Munster came in third with 73 per cent.

Leinster (excluding Dublin) also came in at 73 per cent, and we were pretty disappointed to hear that Dublin came last, with only 65 per cent of us admitting to loving a good cuppa.

Well, there you have it. Now, all this talk about tea has made us thirsty…

Did you and all your mates play the below video while sitting on the local green during summer? And did you all song along and take on the various parts of the puppets?

Of course you did… and now the Potter Puppet Pals are making a comeback.

Hell, yaaaas.

The puppeteering group have announced that they are coming back together for their tenth anniversary, and travelling all the way to Dublin, no less.

As part of LeakyCon this August, the lads will celebrate their anniversary by performing their first ever gig outside of the US.

LeakyCon takes place from August 31 to September 3 and this has just made it ten times more exciting.

We were pretty shocked to the iconic LGBT bar The George vandalised this weekend.

And now, man in his 20s has been arrested for defacing the bar with homophobic slurs.

As well as the homophobic slurs, Nazi symbols were also written in chalk on the walls of The George yesterday morning.

Gardaí picked up a man over the graffiti earlier today.

He's being held at Pearse Street Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

According to the No Hate Speech Ireland group, the incident could be treated 'as homophobic in it's intent' under the Incitement to Hatred Act 1989.

ABBA was constantly played in my household growing up, and now ten years after the first Mamma Mia! film hit the big screen, it's looking like a sequel is in the works.

Yes, a whole decade has passed since Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan, Amanda Seyfried and Colin Firth donned their 70's glad rags, and we couldn't be more delighted with talks of a second movie.
