Yearly Archives: 2017

So, we all know that things between Jay Z and Kanye haven't been good for a while now, but it seems Kanye wants to take it to the next level.

It all started off last year when Kanye publically stated he was disappointed in Jay Z and Beyonce for not checking in on his wife Kim after she was robbed in Paris.

But now, the Saint Pablo rapper is suing Jay Z's company Tidal.

In Jay's new album, he makes reference to his friendship with Kanye, and seems to have no regrets about how things turned out with his former BFF.

The lyrics include:

“You walkin’ around like you invincible
You dropped outta school, you lost your principles
I know people backstab you, I felt bad too
But this ‘f*ck everybody’ attitude ain’t natural
But you ain’t a Saint, this ain’t KumbaYe
But you got hurt because you did cool by ‘Ye
You gave him 20 million without blinkin’
He gave you 20 minutes on stage, f*ck was he thinkin’?
“F*ck wrong with everybody?” is what you sayin’
But if everybody’s crazy, you’re the one that’s insane”

After fans figured out the lyrics in Kill Jay Z, Kanye was swift to leave the company he founded with Jay and is now bringing a lawsuit upon him.

Kanye is stating that he's "owed $3 million" from Tidal, and has apparently sent a letter to the company telling them they were "in breach and the contact was terminated."

The Saint Pablo album brought in more than one million subscribers to the music streaming service, and TMZ states that Kanye was meant to receive a bonus – which he never got.

It gets complicated though, because Tidal say that Kanye "didn't deliver the videos required by contract," and furthermore, are threatening to counter sue him if he uses another streaming service, since they have an "exclusive contract."

Can't we all just go back to 2012 and Watch The Throne?!

Motorists are being warned to be vigilant when looking for car insurance, as hundreds have recently fallen victim to an insurance scam.

The scam, which involves selling fake policies, means drivers are travelling uninsured, even though they think they are fully covered.

Man Driving in the Road at Daytime

The Irish Independent reports that the fraudsters, known as ghost brokers, prey on young drivers and immigrants who are struggling to find a good deal and are not familiar with the insurance market.

It has also been reported that the scam artists pose as legitimate middle men.

In the hoax, the so-called middle men take out real insurance policies, but put down false information before sending them onto drivers.

Speedometer Gauge Reading at Zero

Liberty Insurance was the first to realise the ongoing scam, and has called urgent action to tackle the problem.

98fm reports that hundreds of cases have been reported to the Garda National Economic Crime Bureau.

Dublin Airport's Terminal 2 was recently inspected after the tragedy of the Grenfell Tower.

And thankfully, the terminal "exceeds" fire safety regulations.

In a statement to the Irish Examiner, the Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) said that Terminal 2 is "one of the best fire-engineered buildings" in Ireland.

It continued: “In light of the Grenfell fire we have reviewed the cladding system on Terminal 2 and confirmed that it more than exceeds the relevant fire regulations and building regulations.

"Terminal 2’s cladding is not comparable with the cladding system at Grenfell."

Since the incident in London, the Irish Housing Minister, Eoghan Murphy, has asked all local authories to review fire safety regulations in multi-story social housing.

I think we all remember Fyre Festival.

It was the elite music festival in April that left people stranded on an island with barely any food or water.

The 'glamorous' accommodation turned out to be refuge tents in a field full of mud and the 'gourmet' meals ended up being dry bread with a slice of cheese.

Oh, and did we mention is cost €10,000?

Well, one of its co-founders, Billy McFarland, has now been arrested.

The 25-year-old has been charged with wire fraud, and he could face up to 20 years in prison.

Joon H. Kim, the acting US attorney for the Southern District of New York, said in a statement: "McFarland allegedly presented fake documents to induce investors to put over a million dollars into his company and the fiasco called the Fyre Festival.

"Thanks to the investigative efforts of the FBI, McFarland will now have to answer for his crimes."

A director in-charge of the US Attoney's office said that after the festival, his team became suspicious and had to investigate the circumstances.

The New York Times reports that the other co-founder, rapper Ja Rule (pictured above; far right), has not been arrested.

President Donald Trump has defended his use of social media, saying it is "modern day presidential."

The US president came under fire this week after tweeting about two American TV hosts.

In one of his usual Twitter rants, Donald called MSNBC hosts, Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough, "crazy" and "physco," and described their behaviour as "unmoored."

Yesterday, he took to Twitter again, and defended his remarks, saying: "My use of social media is not Presidential – it's MODERN DAY PRESIDENTIAL."

Yes, OK Donald…

He added: "The FAKE & FRAUDULENT NEWS MEDIA is working hard to convince Republicans and others I should not use social media – but remember I won the 2016 election with interviews, speeches and social media."

Are the four years over yet?

There’s only one way to flush a toilet, right? Well not according to this microbiologist.

Philip Tierno told Business Insider that we’re actually flushing our toilets the wrong way if we leave the lid up.

According to Philip: “When you flush a toilet, the swirling water that removes your waste from the bowl also mixes with small particles of that waste, shooting aerosolised faeces into the air.”

This rather disgusting phenomenon is known as “toilet plume" (EW). This “toilet plume” can actually reach a height of 15 feet when the toilet is flushed.

Not only that, but potentially harmful bacteria and viruses can be transmitted by toilet plume as far as the sink, floor and even your toothbrush.

So, it’s a good idea to keep a cover on your toothbrush or keep it in a cabinet rather than on the sink.

It’s still unclear whether diseases can be transmitted in this manner, more research into “toilet plume” is required before scientists can determine this.

So, don’t panic if you accidentally forget to put the seat down before you flush.

“If you have unbroken skin, you’re likely to be okay," he said.

He did, however, point out that bacteria like salmonella which causes food poisoning and viruses like norovirus and hepatitis A, are transmitted by faecal particles entering the mouth (again, EW).

If someone in your family has been unwell, it’s probably prudent to put the seat down when you flush.

If you have a newer toilet, you don’t need to worry as much as this is less likely to happen with newer low-flow toilets. Older toilets are more likely to spread the dreaded “toilet plume.”

James Cromwell, the actor famous for playing Farmer Hoggett in the movie Babe, has been sentenced to seven days in prison.

The actor was sentenced to serve time at Orange County Jail, after refusing to pay a $375 (€330) fine related to his arrest at a protest in Wawayanda, New York.

The 77-year-old was one of six protestors found guilty of obstructing traffic when they staged an environmental protest, which included a sit-in on the site of a natural gas-fired power plant.

According to People, James was protesting against the carbon emissions that would be emitted by the power plant.

He believes they would have a drastic effect on the local environment, and accelerate climate change.

The LA Confidential star told Variety: “If we don’t stay together, nothing will change. Power to the people.”

James' defence lawyer asked for an appeal in the sentence, which the judge granted.

Mr Cromwell now has until July 14 to pay the fine.

When you see a social media post that has been paid for, do you scroll on or keep listening?

Many bloggers and influencers have come under fire for not being up front about whether they are paid to talk about a product.

But now, one of Ireland's top influencers, Pippa O' Connor, has insisted that she doesn't get paid to post about goods or services – if she likes a product, she'll simply just say it.

A post shared by Pippa O'Connor Ormond (@pipsy_pie) on

According to goss.ie, the beauty blogger said: "Anything I talk about on here whether it's beauty, fashion, somewhere I've been, something I've used, if I am collaborating with a brand on anything, it will always be said this is an ad i.e they are paying me to collaborate with them.

"If I don't state otherwise it means I'm just sharing what I like.

"Just to fill you in on my point of view. I'm asked dozens, probably more than dozens of times a day to promote a brand, company, product, salon, hotel you name it I'm asked to plug it and promote it.

"But I have to respect the amount of following I have and be true. I could be on here 100s of times a day saying 'this is amazing', 'that's amazing', 'go here', 'go there' but you're not stupid. But I never ever do that.

A post shared by Pippa O'Connor Ormond (@pipsy_pie) on

"If someone asks me how much do I charge to do an Instagram post or Snapchat post I just don't, I don't do that. That's not what I'm about," she said.

"Apart from it being important to be honest and to not try and pull the wool over people's eyes to make a few bob, it's against the law, you have to state when something is an ad and if something is sponsored…and I think it's a good rule.

"You have to be true, you have to be honest with yourself, because you won't last and people will just see through that and be like 'ugh she's talking crap again'.

"I think there's nothing wrong by the way with a blogger, celebrity, influencer doing the sponsored tweets, snaps, instagram, by all means do it but be honest with yourself and be honest with everyone else," she explained.

We all experience hormonal break outs from time to time, and let's just say we're not too fond of them.

From dry patches, to spots and oily skin, it can be hard to keep our faces under control and blemish-free.

However, this new chart can apparently track when your skin is going to break out.

Dr Terry Loong, a top skin doctor, created a monthly 'Skin Cycle' in order for women to treat their skin properly.

How to work out your skin's 'monthly cycle'

"The Skin Cycle is all about being in tune with your body and can help minimise break outs, sensitivity and dryness and maximise skin repair," she told Cosmo.

The chart is 28 days long, and works along with your time of the month.

According to the cycle, from days one to four your skin will be "greasy and acne prone.

"Skin is most problematic during this time of the cycle. It is oily and thus prone to acne, and you may have pronounced dark circles under your eyes.

"Even if you don't feel like it, try to work up a sweat with exercise – it helps remove dirt and unclog pores," the chart reads.

"Make sure you sweep toner over your face afterwards to remove sweat and grease."

The chart then moves onto days five to ten. During these days, it claims that your skin will be mostly dry.

"Your skin is likely to be dry and a little flaky at the beginning of your cycle. Drink plenty of water and increase your intake of healthy fats to help it to stay supple."

Then from days 11 to 21, the chart states that we're supposed to have "normal and glowing" skin.

"Skin should be the healthiest and clearest between [these days]."

It suggests to "engage in gentle, relaxing exercise, such as yoga, to help ease your stress levels and keep skin clear."

Unfortunately, from days 22 to 28, our skin is back to being greasy and acne prone, and then the cycle starts all over again.

But as we all know, everyone is different, and if you suffer from bad skin the best thing to do is consult with your own doctor to figure out the best course of action for you,
