Monthly Archives: March 2017

Most of us have learned the hard way that when it comes to leaving the salon with the cut or style we envisioned, we need to let a photo do the talking.

Providing your stylist with a photo of your end goal is much simpler than talking in circles (and leaving in tears), and if ever there was a time to do this, it's in the run-up to your wedding, right?

With this in mind, we trawled Instagram for some of the most stunning bridal party hairstyles, and frankly we're in a world of contentment right now.

Would you just look at the sheer beauty of these creations?

1. We want to reach out and touch…

2. Oh stop, we know.

3 *Keels over*

4. We know

5. Yep

6. Please excuse us

7. And we're done

The gender pay gap is one of the very last frontiers to tackle in the pursuit for true equality between the sexes.

A submission from the Irish Women's Council of Ireland found that on average, childless women earn 17 per cent less than men, while working mothers earn 14 per cent less than their male counterparts.

The possible existence of a pay gap between the sexes is completely unacceptable in modern society, and worker's unions SIPTU and IMPACT are calling on women to get involved with a campaign to raise awareness for the issue.

Women are posting their 'clocked out " selfies to mark the moment that they essentially begin working for free.

"We’re asking working women in Ireland to post a #ClockedOut selfie at 15.50 today (and every day) to mark the moment the Pay Gap kicks in," reads a Twitter post from IMPACT Trade Union.

"That is, the moment Irish women effectively stop being paid in comparison with their male colleagues."

The submission found that there are many different reasons for the gender pay gap, one being the fact that women are "disproportionately represented in the lowest paid sectors of the economy."

While over 70 per cent of senior and managerial positions are held by men, 84 per cent of caring, leisure and other services and almost 80 per cent of administrative and secretarial positions are held by women

So, will you be snapping yourself with the hashtag?

Saint Patrick's Day is just around the corner, and many Irish folk are gearing up to enjoy a tipple or two on the day.

Our mighty Irish beverage, Guinness, has decided to ring in the occasion with a doughnut dedicated to the day.

In the pursuit of the perfect pint pairing, Guinness teamed up with Aungier Danger, one of Dublin's leading doughnut delis, to create a pastry to compliment a pint of the black stuff.

The dark cocoa donut, filled with Belgian chocolate mousse and accented with a drizzle of black currant compote, was created to team effortlessly with the black beverage.

It sounds completely delicious to be honest.

The doughnut will only be available at the Guinness Storehouse on March 17 as part of the Guinness Storehouse 2017 St. Patrick’s Festival.

Along with the doughnuts, the storehouse will be playing host to a number of entertainers, while sports fans can drop in to watch the RBS 6 Nations clash between Ireland and England on Paddy's Day.

The storehouse is open from 9am to 7pm, so we'll see you in the queue.

Say you will, say you wont!

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of their hit single Ce'st La Vie, iconic Irish girl band B*Witched are making a comeback.

The 90s band are releasing some new music in the next 12 months, and we actually can't wait to discover what 20 years of life experience have awarded the girl's musical abilities.

Edele and Keavy Lynch, Lindsay Armaou and Sinéad O’Carroll are plotting a return to the Irish music scene in 2018.

"We’re not going to try to tap into what we were because that’s nostalgia and the music industry has moved on as much as we all have… we’ve updated it so we feel comfortable with it,” the band told The Irish Star.

“We’re going to be what we are now musically and what we feel now."

While the four women may want to move in a new, more mature direction with their upcoming music, we can't help but feel a little nostalgic about the whole thing.

But hey, c'est la vie.

Kourtney Kardashian has given the Irish accent a whack, and it has left us pretty baffled.

Bless her for trying, but we're not quite sure what local dialect she was trying to go for.

The mum-of-three was challenged to try the accent by her Irish hairdresser Andrew Fitzsimons.

Pronouncing Irish as "Oi-rish," Kourtney did her best to mimic the Irish twang.

Unfortunately, it ended up sounding more British than anything else.

Perhaps Andrew can give her some pointers.

Kourtney also attempted an Australian accent, which she didn't nail quite as well as her makeup artist.

We think Kourt should consider visiting the Emerald Isle to brush up on her pronunciation.

Galway is one of the country's finest counties, and the girls from the west now officially have two very famous songs written about them.

Ed Sheeran's Galway Girl has taken Ireland by storm, and Galwegians have been calling for a mash up between Ed's offering and Mundy's popular tune of the same name.

Luckily, one of Galway's best pubs has just released a video, shot in Galway, featuring a Galway lad mashing up both tunes.

That's a lot of Galway all in one three minute clip.

Guitarist John Gaughan has combined both Galway Girl songs to create one epic hybrid of homage to Galwegian women.

We have to say, it's seriously good.

Have a little listen for yourself:

A murder investigation is currently underway after a Donegal woman was found dead by police in the popular Indian resort state of Goa.

The woman, 28, is reported to have suffered injuries to her face and head.

The body was found "under mysterious circumstances, in a nude state, at an isolated spot at Adnem, Devabag, Canacona on Tuesday morning," reports the Times of India.

"Considering the state in which the body was found, and the injuries visible on her face, we concluded that that it was a case of murder," Canacona PI Filomeno Costa told TOI.

Police have also said that a post-mortem will be carried out to discover whether a sexual assault took place.

"Ireland’s Embassy in New Delhi is in contact with Indian authorities in relation to reports of an incident involving an Irish citizen,” reads a Department of Foreign Affairs statement to The Irish Times.

Charlotte Crosby and Stephen Bear have been under major fan scrutiny lately, as people have been wondering whether the pair are more than mere co-hosts on Just the Tattoo of Us.

After weeks of speculation, Charlotte has finally confirmed the rumours that she's in a relationship with Bear, and even went so far as to say that he's "the one".

"He’s the one. I’ve fallen for him a lot, the most I’ve ever fallen for anyone. And I think he feels the same I really do," the Geordie Shore star told Heat.

Charlotte ever went on to say that she feels like she can be her true self around the Big Brother contestant.

"I can be my complete self in front of him, we're exactly the same."

"We're just daft and crazy and anything goes."

Not all fans were pleased with Charlotte's choice of boyfriend, given Bear's womanising reputation and his attitude towards women on the show Celebrities Go Dating.

"That’s just a character her puts on," she told Heat.

"He’s so different at home. He has a very big family and he has so much respect for them. He knows how to treat a woman and has never ever done anything horrible to me, he’s always treated me very, very nicely."

Well, that's all that matters really! We hope it all works out for the two reality stars.
