Yearly Archives: 2016

If we were offered one extra day in 2016, it's fair to say most of us would politely decline.

From the shocking implications of global politics to the passing of much-loved and high-profile figures, the first eight months have been seriously rough.

And with what seems like an ever-increasing threat of terror and senseless violence, many of us have uttered the phrase 'What is the world coming to?' more times than we ever thought possible this year.

And it looks like the lads from comedy act, Foil Arms and Hog, are with us all on that one.

In a Facebook upload which perfectly illustrates a widespread perception of the world right now, the lads can be seen assessing various countries with a view to travel.

And it is (unfortunately) on the money.

Is it a bird?  Is it a plane?  No, it’s a flying saucer!

A new viral video has emerged online which shows a number of Wexford Gardaí chasing a seemingly unidentified flying object through Gorey town.

The bizarre footage was filmed over the weekend as witnesses casually watched a squad car chase and pull over a small moving spaceship.

According to Sky News, the unique flying saucer was created by a local artist named Ali Kemal Ali who cleverly used the vehicle to promote an upcoming space-themed art show.

Since the clip has been viewed over 950,000 times since Saturday, we think Ali's plan worked pretty well indeed.

Only in Ireland!

Chloë Grace Moretz is a famed fashionista and Hollywood's hottest young actress, but she is still a teenage girl with feelings.

In her recent interview with Glamour UK, 19-year-old Chloë opened up about what life is like as Brooklyn Beckham's girlfriend.

"One of the reasons why dating him is great is that we both get what it means to have our live twisted and torn apart and faked" she explained.

The Neighbours 2 actress also mentioned the downside to dating Brooklyn (we didn't think it was possible!)

Chloë worries that she will only be known as his girlfriend, and not her for her immense talents, even though she's been acting for most of her life.

"Seriously, you don't know how often I'm just described as 'his girlfriend'. And you think: 'well, I've also been acting for 13 years, but don't worry'."

At just 19, Chloë has achieved more success than most do in a life time.

The young lovebirds recently attended the Teen Choice Awards, where Chloë won 'Choice Movie Actress: Comedy.'

A zoo in Georgia has this week welcomed three beautiful white lion cubs, and everyone at SHEmazing! HQ is falling all over themselves for a closer look right now.

Tbilisi Zoo are overjoyed by the new arrivals after losing a huge number of their inhabitants following a flash flood in June 2015.

Releasing a statement on their Facebook page, the zoo wrote: "Currently, the newborn babies are being kept in a closed cage and away from the public so they can adapt to the calm environment."

"Their mother will most likely let them out in the coming days, and everyone will have a chance to come and see them for the first time," they assured their followers.

While the cubs' mother, Cleopatra, is said to have endured a difficult delivery, mother and infants are said to be doing well today.

According to The Telegraph, the cubs, who have yet to be named, are not only beautiful, but also incredibly rare – found in only 70 zoos worldwide.

We are completely and utterly in love.

We all have one thing that we wear all the time.

Whether it's a watch, your favourite hat or your trusty bag, it's your staple, and as small as it may be, it's what defines you from others.

Well, Kate Middleton has one staple that she wears to every occasion – her pearl drop earrings.

Hello Giggles spotted that the Duchess just can't be seen without them:

They're classy, sleek, sophisticated and pretty much sum up Kate herself.

It’s hard to believe it’s been 15 years since Anne Hathaway first played Mia Thermopolis in The Princess Diaries.

And while the film’s anniversary has left us feeling both nicely nostalgic and bloody ancient, it seems to have given its lead some grateful feels.

Yesterday the 33-year-old actress took to Instagram to mark the occasion with a dancing Princess Mia gif and a few heartfelt words.

She wrote: “It’s been 15 years (say it with me) SHUT UP!!!!!!  To all the fans who loved Mia, Louie, Lily, Joe, Michael and, of course, Queen Clarisse, thank you from the bottom of my heart.”

Anne continued her message by paying tribute to the film’s director Garry Marshall who died last month at the age of 81.

The star said: “And to Garry Marshall, thank you for making me a princess.  I love you always my beloved friend and teacher, and I miss you every day xx.”

The Alice in Wonderland star made her film debut in The Princess Diaries in 2001.  Three years later she reprised her role as Mia for the The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement.

Earlier this year it was rumoured that a third movie could be added to the series, but as of yet no progress seems to have been made on that front so for now we'll just have to wait with fingers crossed.

Reading the Harry Potter books and watching all the movies made us wish we had powers for even the most mundane things.

And if magic was real, we'd all probably use our wands just to get dressed in the morning (I would, anyway).

However, this new creation is something that seems like magic, and I'm not quite sure how it works, but it looks cool AF.

According to Cosmo, AR Designs and its OvRcharge device have made a new creations for charging your phone – and it LEVITATES.

Using magic, a wood charging base and a phone case with an induction receiver and magnet, the invention will allow you to charge your phone without any pain-in-the-ass wires.

The device can also make your phone rotate and when it's all charged up, it'll automatically stop juicing it.

However, as in every Harry Potter story, there's a bad guy and this bad guy comes with news that not all phones will be able to levitate (with the exception of iPhone and Samsung, obvs).

But you know, you can always use Wingardium Leviosa… just like Hermione.

There are people who, following a well-intentioned trip back to the parents’ homestead, leave feeling drained, mildly irritated, with an acute awareness of their family’s numerous shortcomings.

And then there are liars.

Because even those who step back over the threshold of their childhood home with the best of intentions (and a desire to talk to people who don't take photos of their dinner) ultimately find themselves questioning how they ever lived with these humans for a prolonged period of time.

A trip home is like viewing adulthood through the eyes of a child.

It looks great, it sounds great… and then you get there.

And it’s more stressful, more exhausting and has a lot less ice cream than you were promised.

Returning to the family home for a weekend feels like a balancing act – one where you’re on fire, the tightrope is on fire, and the person holding the extinguisher won’t help because ‘aren’t you doing a grand job looking after yourself’.

Chores you were tasked with as a teen are now apparently beyond your capabilities because things have changed since you flew the nest.

“Don’t give him the purple dish, for Jaysus sake. That cat won’t eat out of the purple dish,” you'll be told as you watch the cat eat happily out the purple dish – zero f*cks given.

And tasks which you’d gladly forego for two days – because you spend half your life doing them now – are heaped upon you at every available opportunity.

“Help your dad with the washing, good woman. He won’t use the dishwasher because it made an extra beep last February and he thinks we’ll be burned in our beds.”

Moving out of the family home also gives your parents the distinct impression that your general interests have drastically changed.

You’ll follow your mother around the garden as she points out every item she’s painted since you last visited and you’ll shadow your father as he guides you through the latest additions to his stash of old-fashioned stationary, and this is because they genuinely think it’s now your thing.

Oh, you were a self-obsessed gobshite when you lived there – cared about nothing but yourself, the WiFi router and the contents of the freezer – but now you’re different.

Now, apparently, you want to talk dado rails, dustbusters, funerals and the fact the neighbour’s house looks the absolute biz with those hanging baskets.

And this is because when your parents try to do it with each other, they may as well be shouting into the abyss.

Whether you tuned their conversations out when you actually lived with them (that’ll be the self-obsessed part) or this bizarre conversational quirk is an entirely new development, a trip home will act as a reminder that most couples – after a certain age – possess the ability to conduct two separate conversations… at the same time.

Refereeing a conversation between your parents the morning after your mother plied you with red wine – something which she refused to do years previously –  is as welcome a notion as a baby at a Donald Trump rally, and yet it's your principle role on your return home.

Oh, you know it’s only couple of days, you know you’re being a bit of a d*ck, but you can’t help yourself.

Progress outside the family home; regress inside the family home.

At best, you berate yourself for your lack of patience and, at worst, you actually begin to care about dado rails.

So you take a deep breath, mentally wipe the slate clean, show some interest in the new curtains, and then give up… until next time, that is.

She caused a lot of controversy over the last few weeks with #lipstickgate, but finally it seems like Jodie Marsh is moving on.

The former model shared a picture on Instagram page of her younger self with her cousin; actor Alex Walkinshaw.

She primarily made the post about him, saying: "With my gorgeous cousin Alex Walkinshaw who's currently in Holby and has also been in the Bill and Waterloo Road. He's a talented beast."

However, her fans were more interested in what she looked like before she ever got a nose job, and we have to admit that she looks VERY different.

Jodie has previously opened up about her surgeries and was only 15-year-old when she got her first nose job.

Throwing on tracksuit bottoms used to be a sign that you've totally given up in the style stakes.

Putting your trackies on with an over-sized hoodie made everything comfy and even if you didn't look your *best*, you were warm and cosy and that's all that mattered.

Well, athleisure has taken over the fashion world by storm over the last few seasons and Selena Gomez is the latest celeb to rock the trend.

Except, she rocked it in a pair of tracksuit bottoms that cost more than most of us pay for rent.

Coming in at $665 (€612), it's hard to justify paying that much for trackie bottoms, but I have to say, Selena made the outfit look totally kick-ass.

Athleisure is here to stay, ladies.

If there’s one brand which inspires classic fashion like no other it’s Chanel, and during the iconic fashion house's Autumn/Winter ‘15 campaign there was one shoe that caught everyone’s attention.

On the day Karl Lagerfeld turned the Grand Palais into a giant Parisian café, each of his models walked down the runway wearing the same pair of nude and black sling back mid-height heels.

The simple shoes were the latest reincarnation of the brand’s legendary two-tone sling back shoe which – according to Chanel – give the impression of smaller feet and longer legs.

Thankfully for those of us whose budgets won’t quite stretch to high fashion, there is currently a wonderful highstreet dupe of this classic shoe available in Zara for just €25.95.

Besides the price point, the main obvious difference between the Zara and Chanel shoe is that the Zara version has a closed rather than sling back, but given that we are now in the season of Autumn/Winter we think the closed back could actually be preferable.

But if the shoe’s back is your favourite feature there’s no need to worry as Topshop have a similarly styled pair of flats for €68.

You're welcome!
