Unlike students of other third-level disciplines, Arts student have it pretty rough when it comes to the public’s perception of their prospects.

If you make the mistake of telling someone that you don’t actually intend teaching upon graduation, you’re often met with a mixture of confusion, pity and suspicion.

Oh, and then there’s the endless digs you get about your 12-hour work week while the ‘real’ students sweat over Bunsen burners or slave away in an airless computer lab.

Here are just 8 things you’ll know if you’re pursuing or, indeed, have a Bachelor of Arts degree.

1. People openly scorn your choice of subject.

“Greek and Roman, sure what would you be doing with that jaysusin’ yoke?”

2. People often haven’t even heard of your subjects, and regularly confuse them with something else.

“Anthropology? Is that what Ross Geller did?”

3. You’re not allowed to complain about being tired… EVER.

“Would ya listen to your one? She’s fit for the bed after her two lectures.”

4.  Your timetable never actually allows you a short day because your three classes a day span an eight-hour period.

“Don’t mind me, I’ll just sit on this bench for five hours until the next one.”

5.  If you do a language, you’re regularly quizzed on your fluency by older members of the family.

“Sure I got an honour in that in the Inter. Go on, test me.  BON JOUR!”

6.  Jokes about your supposed lack of prospects no longer rattle you – in fact, you rarely hear them anymore.

“What? McDonalds. Oh yeah, har har har.”

7. You manage to pass exams on novels you haven’t even finished.

“God bless you, Wikipedia.”

8. You are a PRO at hitting your word count with the help of your online thesaurus.

“What? They did have full-sized aortic pumps!”

Nominations for this year's Golden Globes were announced yesterday, and we have (unsurprisingly) spent much of today predicting the winners.

La La Land has topped the nominations for movies with seven nominations including Best Motion Picture, Best Performance by an Actress and Actor, Best screen play, and Best original score, so they're sure to bring home a gong.

But will Emma Stone nab Best Actress for her performance in La La Land or will Meryl Steep take it home for Florence Foster Jenkins?

This is Streep’s 30th Golden Globe Nomination, and she is also set to receive a Cecil B. DeMille lifetime achievement award, so she's sure to go home happy either way.

Ryan Reynolds looks set to bag the Best Actor award for his role in Deadpool, but we think our own Colin Farrell will be close on his heels to nab the award for his role in The Lobster.

Barry Jenkins is blazing a trail for Best Director and Best Motion Picture, for Moonlight with a staggering six nominations.

The People Vs OJ Simpson looks set to win the Television Series/ Program Award with a total of five nominations including Best Actress for Sarah Paulson, Best Actor for Courtney B. Vance, and Best Supporting Performance for John Travolta. According to Vanity Fair Mel Gibson’s Hacksaw Ridge, Martin Scorsese’s Silence, Jackie, Nocturnal Animals, and Moonlight all look set to win.

The Golden Globes usually causes some hype as it hints at next year's Oscar winners.

Speculation is nothing if not a fun pastime, but if previous wins are anything to go by the Golden Globes have foretold the eventual Oscar winner for best picture 11 times over the past 20 years.

This will be the 74th Annual Golden Globes ceremony with Jimmy Fallon is set to host and will air on January 8, 2017 on NBC.

Donal Skehan has long been a favourite of ours, and he sky-rocketed in the UK after taking part in Saturday Kitchen.

But it seems the Irish chef is set for new sights as he's making his was to America to film a new TV show with his wife.

Since he got married, Donal told the Irish Sun that the demand for a TV series with his wife has been massive, which he says he's amazed by because his wife, Sofie, is usually behind the camera.

The duo have filmed a pilot for the Food Network in the US, and said Sofie was brilliant with the change.

“Sofie was great. She has been behind the camera for so long watching me do this and watching me learn, when it came to her turn she knew exactly what she was doing.

“We’ll see what happens after it airs as they’ll make a decision then so you just have to keep your head down and keep working.

“A lot of what we do is based on food and lifestyle, and we’ve been amazed in the interest in us, especially since we got married. I suppose it’s all part and parcel of what we are."

Who else would love to watch this?!

This past weekend, at a Christmas-inspired baby shower, Katherine Heigl and her husband, Josh Kelley, celebrated the forthcoming birth of their son.

The couple already have two adopted daughters Naleigh, 8 from South Korea and four-year-old Adalaide, who was adopted within the US.

In a post on her blog Heavenly Days, the Knocked Up star shared details of the stunning event.

Drawing on “classic stork” vibes for the invitations, Ms Heigl said it has become a bit of a “thing” for the happy clan; the actress has used the theme before.

“We also did a version of the stork for Adalaide’s welcoming party so it’s kind of a thing for our family now!” she stated.

She also revealed that her own mother, Nancy, planned the entire event.

“She asked me for some direction on the decor and the vibe I was hoping for, so I headed straight to Pinterest to cultivate a look for the shower that spoke to not only the holidays, but also our mountain home in Utah where the baby will be born.”

The Hollywood blonde's mother ensured the every detail was perfectly planned.

In keeping with the festive theme, the star's home and venue for the shower was decorated with white winter bouquets set in milk glasses, alongside a Christmas tree. Rustic table settings with rattan mats, shed deer antlers, pine cones and white gourds set perfect stage for the “farm to table” themed menu.

Guests were also treated to delicious winter-themed cocktails, such as the Winter Warmer, Pomegranate Royale and Chocolate Snowflake.

As the Grey’s Anatomy star could not indulge in the merriment of the cocktails, she wanted to have a perfect cake due to the “sweet tooth” she’s developed during her pregnancy.

“I of course wanted it to be beautiful but it had to be tasty too!

“I found some perfect examples of the kind of simple beauty I was looking for and then told the bakers to make sure the frosting was not only decorative but delicious too. They nailed it!”

Guests were also sent home with “fun” baby themed Christmas sugar cookies, which Ms Heigl said were, “the perfect parting gift”.

And in a heartfelt toast, Nancy Heigl recited William Wordsworth’s Intimations Of Immortality for the guests before raising her glass to her daughter’s family and “life”.

Unsurprisingly, the 38 year old actress gushed about how beautiful and “magical” the whole event had been.

“Not only did I absolutely love how beautifully everything turned out but I could not have been more grateful for all my friends, family and co-workers who showed up to shower us with good wishes and support.”

“It is truly a magical time of year to be welcoming in new life and celebrating God’s hope for us, his faith in us, and his unconditional love.

"It is how all us parents feel about our children and Josh and I are no exception!”

Aleppo is today under siege as remaining rebels clash with government and Russian forces in the eastern part of the city.

Witnessing the catastrophic scenes around them are ordinary Syrians – men, women, and children who are trapped and increasingly desperate as their options run out.

Some of those seemingly caught up in the violence have been posting chilling words online, sharing ‘final’ messages with a world they feel has abandoned them.

While the authenticity of the posts cannot be verified independently – the sentiment is nevertheless harrowing. Indeed, as one commentator on Twitter stated: "I don't know if the account is real or not but the suffering of the civilians of Aleppo is real."

And international humanitarian groups are already describing recent events as a “complete meltdown of humanity”.

As the bloody four-year long battle comes to an end, Russian state media is reporting that the rebels are cornered into an area of less than 5sq km.

The UN says that some 80 people have been executed by pro-government fighters in their homes and on the streets – adding that at least 13 of the dead are children.

"In these hours, it looks like a complete meltdown of humanity in Aleppo," the UN’s Rupert Colville commented today.

Citing a doctor on the ground, Unicef has also said that around 100 children “unaccompanied or separated from their families,” are trapped in a building under heavy attack.

"It is time for the world to stand up for the children of Aleppo and bring their living nightmare to an end," a spokesman for the organisation stated.

An emergency debate in the UK parliament today heard that humanitarian help is needed immediately to save lives and help those stranded in the city.

"Every hour, butcheries are carried out," the Syrian Observatory For Human Rights has furthermore claimed – as cited by CNN. The same news organisation has described the city as “a wasteland of carnage and rubble”.

The Syrian government has yet to comment on the killings in state-run media.

Conflict in Aleppo began in 2012 in the aftermath of the 2011 Arab Springs unrest.

Syrian president Bashar al-Assad has from last year been supported by Russia; rebel forces are propped up by Turkey.

Initially, world powers including the US, France, and Britain publicly backed the anti-government fighters, but the rise of Isil in the region and the rebels’ increasingly pro-Islamic tendencies eventually dissolved this support.

Just days after getting over the remarks John Krasinkski made about his wife Emily Blunt during a recent interview, Ryan Gosling is after flooring us with comments he made about his partner Eva Mendes.

In an interview with GQ, the Notebook actor revealed that the reality of family life has, in fact, exceeded his greatest expectations.

Ryan, who share two daughters with the Hitch actress, said: "Your whole life, you hear what it's like to have kids, and all the clichés are true."

"I felt I knew that everything would be different, but until you experience that, there's no way to really know what people mean," he continued.

Paying tribute to Eva as a mother, he added: "Eva's the dream mother, and they're the dream babies. It's like a dream that I'm having right now. I'm dreaming it all."

Having welcomed his first child in 2014, the actor says her arrival signalled a profound change on his approach to life, explaining: "When you meet your kids you realise that they deserve great parents."

"And then you have your marching orders and you have to try and become the person that they deserve. There was nothing kind of premeditated about it, you know."

Reflecting on the impact Eva, Esmerelda and Amada have had on him, he added: "It just suddenly was: My life had changed. And thank God it did."

Excuse us while we weep into our sleeves.

If ever there was a mother/ daughter duo that could pass for twins, it's Reese Witherspoon and her teenage daughter Ava.

(Sorry Kris Jenner, but it's true.)

And while the internet is awash with photos that would leave most die-hard Reese fans struggling to identify who is who, it doesn't sound like Reese has any idea where the rest of us are coming from on this one.

While appearing on Ellen this week, the 40-year-old actress chatted about her three children as images of Ava, Deacon and Tennessee flashed behind her.

Pausing at a snap of Reese and her eldest child, Ellen told the Sing actress. "She looks just like you. I know everybody keeps saying that."

"Really?" Reese responded in a move which has us questioning the Oscar-winner's eyesight.

Clearly taken aback by the star's less than agreeable response to the comparison, Ellen pressed again: "Do you think she looks just like you?"

"She and I are always like 'we just don't see it'" Reese responded.

"You look like, I mean, you look so young!" Ellen said.

But the Walk The Line star just failed to see the uncanny likeness between herself and the 17-year-old daughter she shares with ex-husband Ryan Phillippe.

And if anyone needs us, we'll be lying in a darkened room.

So, as we were wandering through the Internet just now, we spotted CNN post a video on Twitter of Kanye West outside Trump Tower in New York WITH Donald himself.

The press began to ask him questions, such as, will he be running for president in 2020, to which Kanye just gives an awkward stare.

He's then asked if he's going to perform at Trump's inauguration, and Kanye just replies, "I just want to take a picture right now."

Kanye appeared with Kris Jenner's boyfriend, Corey Gamble, who is seen as Donald bids farewell to Kanye.

The president-elect says at the start that he and Kanye have been friends for a very long time… but we have to say, we have a lot of questions about this one.

A bit strange considering the dad-of-two is just out of hospital, but  sure, to each their own, right?

Holly Willoughby has an enviably hourglass yet slim figure, and the TV host swears that sticking to a healthy lifestyle is the key.

The This Morning host showed how much she cares for her viewers and fans by actively turning down the opportunity to discuss her diet and exercise routine.

"I actually avoid talking about my diet and exercise regime because I have interviewed so many people affected by eating disorders and I know some people in chat rooms can really fixate on other people's diets," she told Prima.

"I just can't contribute to that."

The mum-of-three said that she likes to focus on "the bigger picture," and makes her health a priority over how she looks.

"I'm healthy; I love food it's a celebration, something to be talked over, shopped for, cooked and enjoyed," she said.

The host may have learned a thing or two after best friend Fearn Cotton's eye opening documentary The Truth About Online Anorexia, where the DJ was horrified to discover that her pictures were being used as "thinspiration" by young girls.

Show this article to your mam the next time she moans at you for not making your bed.

Many of us grew up with our mother or grandmothers telling us to make our beds each and every morning.

For most, it was a must-do, because your mother would probably check your room the minute you left the house. But then came the time that you moved out, and making your bed every morning was a distant memory.

Sometimes you might feel bad for your lack of cleanliness, but as it turns out, you don't have to feel bad anymore – because, it might actually be good for you.

According to researchers from the Kington University London, not making your bed every day can help banish house dust mites, which can cause asthma and a range of allergies.

If mites are in warm, dry conditions, they will die, so an unmade bed is perfect if you don't want any of them hanging around.

''We know that mites can only survive by taking in water from the atmosphere using small glands on the outside of their body.

"Something as simple as leaving a bed unmade during the day can remove moisture from the sheets and mattress so the mites will dehydrate and eventually die.'' said author of the study, Dr Stephen Pretlove.

Well, that's us sold.
